We dined at Assaggi on our second night in Amsterdam. It was a spur of the moment choice - we didn't have a reservation. The staff was attentive and the food was good. The food didn't blow us out of the water, considering the price point but it we did enjoy it. I didn't get a picture of the scallops we started with - which was easily the best thing we had. Be mindful the dish is served with 3 scallops. My partner and I both had the rigatoni carbonara with pork guanciale as our mains. Very good but not the best I've had. We arrived an hour early of our reservation time (our schedule for the day worked out that way), and they were happily able to accommodate us. We were brought a complimentary amuse bouche upon sitting. Excellent mojito and ravioli dinner. Good presentation as well. Meh. We were looking for seating on the sidewalk and this place was wide open. The menu was tough to understand, but we figured things out. My daughter got a bowl of spaghetti with red sauce. It was fantastic. I ordered the risotto with mushrooms. It was aggressively mushroomy and the server said we should try the truffle topper (12 euro extra). Be advised, everyone is required to order an entree. We paid 102 euro for a bowl of spaghetti and a plate of risotto and two drinks. At the end, the server asked us for a tip. I did enjoy the limoncello and ice cream shot they gave us (for free) after dinner. That was a nice touch. Overall, it felt like a tourist trap, but we still enjoyed ourselves. read more

We came here due to great reviews on Google but collectively were not impressed with the food here. I had the pasta with swordfish which came highly recommended but found the swordfish lacking in flavor. My friends had the truffle pasta (noted the pasta was really hard and had a weird texture) and another fish dish which were nothing to write home about either. We did appreciate the generous truffle flavor in the pasta though and the staff was very nice. Restaurant itself had a nice ambiance. The little dessert shots they provided at the end were probably my favorite part - a mix of lemon, vodka, and ice cream. read more

Assaggi located in the Jordaan is a quaint Italian spot with a nice selection of wines and a good menu. The prices are a bit more than the other eateries in the area but the Food is good. The river was tender and David filled. We also ordered the shrimp and calamari which was delicious. The service didn't quite hit the mark. The server was a bit stand offish and only saved by his female counterpart. Would I return? Probably not but if you are in the area and can handle the service it's a safe bet. read more

What can I say but that I am a fan! We wandered around the Jordaan neighborhood in Amsterdam as we were told it was a foodie area and we stumbled across this restaurant quite by accident. Maria was an absolute delight! They offered any pizza AND any pasta dish gluten-free for Marci, which is not something we find often enough. The focaccia bread was brought to our table with an olive tapenade, along with our Panna water. Mike & I shared a Tirolese Pizza; tomato, buffalo mozzarella, oregano, mushrooms & bacon. The girls shared a gluten-free Assaggi Pizza; tomato, buffalo mozzarella, mascarpone, pancetta, cherry tomatoes, oregano & rocket (arugula). We drank a nice bottle of Barone Montella Montepulciano D'Abruzzi, very reasonably priced, floral on the nose, medium bodied and dry, great with the pizza, and a couple of Aperol Spritzes. The pesto with zucchini is absolutely unbelievable! Probably the best pesto I've ever had in a restaurant. It wasn't heavy and did not leave a strong aftertaste at all. Perfect! Their bread and tapenade are very good. Tapenade is excellent! Mozzarella that comes with the caprese salad is a winner. The tomatoes were not. Tasted the risotto special with truffles. I was a little too enthousiastic when I wrote the review. Shortly after we visited again and this time I was disappointed by the waiter who served us first, maybe he's even the owner, I don't know. His friendliness was fake and made him appear snobbish. The food was still very good but they served it too quickly. We had only finished the starter when shortly after we already got the main course. What I also forgot to mention: it can get very noisy if you sit inside, from the chitchat of the guests. One of the best Italian restaurants in Amsterdam, in one of the cosiest streets in the Jordaan area. Where the other Italians in this street choose a more cafe style decoration, Assagi is a bit more luxurious. It has a nice interior both suitable for a romantic night out or a dinner with some friends. Good chairs, real table linnen, etc. And then the food. Fantastic! Try the mixed starter and you will see some amazing dishes come by (about 9 euro a person). The primis (pastas) are all fresh and home made there are about 6 pastas on the menu plus an always changing pasta of the day, and they are all to die for. (about 12 euro) As a Secondi (main) you can choose between about 5 meat dishes and 5 fish dishes and again, they are all amazing. With it come potatoes and some vegetables. The housewines are very good and offer a great value for money (about 17 euro a bottle) but they also have an extensive winemenu for you to choose from. Deserts are again very, very good. We've had dinner here about 10 times and everytime it was fantastic and very consistent. This prooves to me that the chef has a firm hand in the kitchen. Service is not uptight, but very friendly, correct and relaxed. Tip: Ofcourse you want to try as much as possible! What we always do is: Take the mixed starter, even one for two persons is OK! Then share a nice pasta. Then both have a maincourse! Or another pasta plus one meat / fish dish if you loved the pasta. If you still have some room left, choose a nice desert. Or again, share it. finish with a nice espresso. (or like some people do, have a cappuccino and let the Italians think: goodmorning! With 2 persons expect to spend about 115 euro including a bottle of wine. read more
