Awful experience. The food was tasty. Meal started with us asking about food allergens. He seemed to be so confused. When I asked for a manager, he said he was busy. Waiter then heckled about it with a table behind us. Beyond unprofessional. Mocking about my children's allergies. We looked past it and ate after he rolled his eyes multiple times about the allergies. Once the meal was done he kept pacing by our table, once we paid. There were two other tables empty. We maybe sat for fifteen minutes. He then came and said people were waiting and we needed to get up. Multiple other tables were also done with their meal. We explained we were almost done. He yelled "No get up now. Someone is waiting. Get out and leave." No one was waiting. The restaurant is tiny and you can see from the front to the back. At which point I asked for a manager. He yells I am the manager, get out before I call the police. To which I replied please do so. My friend is disabled and asked him to pass her crutches, which she needs to walk. He said no get out! Yelling in her face as spit flung on her. We were shocked and appalled and laughed. I cannot believe he is allowed to work in service industry. He was rude and evil. I am mortified that he would treat a disabled person this way. Not sure if he was racist, evil, or discriminatory against disabled people. Our party was mixed racially. Very doubtful he is the manager. Someone of his caliber is not capable of running a food truck. Stay away. Focaccia is not home made nor pizza dough. Pretty authentic Italian restaurant in Amsterdam city center. On a quieter street than usual and has the most dedicated employees. I've been there twice in two days. They start you off with bread service and amazing butter. First day I had the seafood mix and the second day I got the shrimp gambero pasta and both plates were wiped clean with the bread. Also got the tiramisu the second day and it didn't disappoint. One last tip is make sure you make a reservation because if they get busy you'll lose your chance on some good Italian! The owner and staff were fantastic. We went there twice with daughter and son in law along with 2 grandkids one and three. The staff and owner were incredible with them talking and engaging. The food was fantastic. We had pasta and various meat dishes. All hot and delicious. Quick service, but not overwhelming. Great wine list. When we were seated, the waiter asked if we wanted still or sparkling water. We specified tap water and were told we must choose a bottle. This attitude was emblematic of the service at Savini. We are not in Italy and other Dutch restaurants served us tap water. As we ordered, I only ordered a main course. The waiter asked what I wanted to drink. I was tempted to say tap water, but replied that I did not want a drink. He gave me a very rude look. After finishing the starters, the waiter cleared away the bread plates and bread basket. When my husband asked to keep the bread, we got another rude huff and look. Obviously they think we are obnoxious Americans. As the saving grace, all of the food was very good. I had the rack of lamb, medium rare and it was excellent. Others had pizza with rocket and carpaccio, scallopine parmigiana (a special) and spaghetti con popole (meatballs, another special). If you're traveling to Amsterdam, you have to eat at this restaurant... YOU HAVE TO! My boyfriend and I were wandering down the street (lost lol), and we stumbled upon this inconspicuous gem. Of all of the restaurants on the street, this was the only that was packed. Good sign! Since we couldn't be seated immediately, we put our names down on the reservation list and got a drink at a nearby bar. When we came back, we were seated at a cozy table in the back. Our waitress was warm, friendly, and accommodating. She quickly brought out bread and olive oil. Yum! We ordered wine, and I ordered the clams with linguine in white wine sauce. Even though we weren't in Italy, I absolutely loved the dish! I never do this, but we actually ordered dessert. We got the tiramisu, which is perfect to share and super delicious. This was our first dinner in Amsterdam and what a great pick! We came on a rainy Monday night and there were a few tables. To start, they give your complimentary bread (yum, love the compound butter!). We shared 3 pasta dishes: linguine and clams, shrimp spaghetti, and spaghetti and meatballs. The pastas were super fresh and the sauces were light and non-greasy. My favorite had to be the shrimp pasta. They give you lots of protein and the prices are reasonable. We decided to end our 18 day Europe trip with an Italian meal. We arrived a bit after 9pm and were given the option to sit inside or out. Since it was a nice and warm evening, we decided to sit outside. I ordered the minestrone vegetable soup to start. I'm the type that likes to have soup at least a few nights a week. This was maybe the second time I had soup this trip, so the minestrone soup was delicious and comforting. The broth had a lot of flavor and tons of chopped veggies. Complimentary warm bread was also plus but I found this place very expensive for Italian food (€17-21 for pasta, €12-17 for pizza) and drinks (€4.75-6.75 for glass of (should be €2.5-3) wine). Most Western Europe offer good pasta under €15. Especially homemade tiramisu shouldn't be more than €6. Here, Dessert are all €9! Unless this is your last meal on earth, try something else as you don't miss too much by not having the Italian food in Amsterdam. read more

The pasta cream sauce was not too salty or heavy, and the pizza had very high quality toppings. I normally don't like ham, but it tasted amazing. My partner in tow for this restaurant had previously dined at this establishment, a traditional Italian restaurant in Amsterdam. He's one of those types who "If it's edible, it's delicious!" who is very easy to please so I was veeeeeery skeptic of him on this. Due to it's proximity to the hotels and tourist district, it could be considered to be a tourist trap. Thankfully, this is not the case! Absolutely authentic. Italians running the place with well prepared dishes. There are several pre-fixed selections, all which are a good deal, and I decided to eat a couple of things I don't normally eat. The menu is limited, but what it had it did well in preparation. The highlight - The beef carpaccio was tissue-thin slices of heaven, so fresh and light with slivers to cheese and oil. A generous portion that I absolutely devoured. The veal was different. I had never had it before and I found it to be very tender with a well balanced sauce (not too tomato-y bland or sweet). I'm a lamb/beef/chicken kind of guy so I LOVE my meat and I enjoyed how tender it was. The staff was very friendly, cheerful, and was appreciative that this American spouted some Italian their way. We asked our concierge for a good restaurant recommendation and she gave us lots of high end and 'authentic Dutch' options, then told us that if were happy with a small Italian place, this was her personal favourite restaurant in Amsterdam. Well, we couldn't pass that up! It was only a couple of minutes walk from the train station and at first we couldn't see it. It was in a row of restaurants, all with outdoor tables, but was the only one that was absolutely packed. We walked up and asked the manager if we could have a table outside. He didn't laugh at us, which was the first positive sign! It was obvious that there was no room, so he gave us a twenty minute estimate and invited us to sit at the bar. We were in no hurry and rather fancied a glass of something cheeky! Less than ten minutes later he had rustled up a table for two outside and brought us, our drinks and some bread to it. I rather cavalierly say 'some bread' - it was delicious! I am not usually a fan of white bread, but I could eat this all day long, Little hot crusty rolls with fluffy clouds in the middle! Served with garlic butter (oh yum!) and olive tapenade. We had the house Montepulciano, which was the cheapest wine on the list and very scrummy. I had the Savini tagliatelle and my father had the vegetarian pizza. Both were delicious. We shared a tiramisu, which was good (not the best I have ever tasted, but certainly very nice). It was a very good job we shared one, as the portion was enormous! The service was impeccable, the atmosphere was really fun and we really enjoyed ourselves! This place was so good that I did something I am not sure I have done before... we went back for a second night! We had looked at several other options and then both decided that we could rely on this place and the menu was extensive enough that it wouldn't feel as if we were eating the same thing twice. We were treated like royalty! We walked in and as it was a much chillier evening, we sat inside. We were greeted by everyone like we were long lost friends! A few hours ago my girlfriend and I were wandering the streets of Amsterdam looking for a nice place to have a dinner date. I can only eat gluten free and we found this restaurant offered gluten free pasta... Normally I would never write a review whether or not the food was good or bad, however tonight she and I had such a bad customer service experience that we feel compelled to write a review. We dined in around 7pm on a Thursday night on November 2nd, 2017 and was greeted by a young friendly female worker. I noticed that all the tables were full and asked if there were any upcoming available tables for two people. She glanced around and said that if we waited at the bar then a table should open up shortly. My girlfriend and I didn't mind the short wait and agreed to look at the menu at the small bar until a table opened up for us. As we sat down at the bar we noticed that the girl who greeted us was seemed to be getting yelled at by a much older worker who would occasionally point his fingers at us-- he was speaking another language (I assume Italian) and we could not understand what he was saying. This older worker was a little bit shorter than 5'8" and over 50 years old. He wore a sweater on top the general worker uniform so we presumed that he was the manager. We couldn't decide if he was disciplining the girl for allowing us in the restaurant or if it was about some other matter. We ordered two glasses of water at the bar and before we were given our waters we were shown to seat at our table. Within five minutes the presumed manager came to our table and asked, "What do you want?" We told him our orders and without speaking a word he walked away in a hurry. We kept hearing some arguments happening on the side where he was at-- we tried to not think much of it but we were beginning to feel unwelcomed. Six minutes later he came back with our food-- it was really odd how fast they came back with the food in comparison to other restaurants. He quickly placed our dishes on our tables and asked if we wanted cheese on top, as I started to say, "yes" he threw the spoon of cheese on to my pasta, then without asking my girlfriend he threw cheese into her soup bowl-- my girlfriend is vegan and never got a chance to tell him she doesn't want cheese since this guy walked away so fast. My girlfriend was pissed. We looked around and noticed that every other table had a complimentary bowl of bread, (I may be gluten free but my girlfriend was looking forward to eating bread since her soup had cheese in it), we never got bread. We also hadn't received our waters from when we ordered at the bar. Half way through eating a waitress from another table noticed we had no drinks and gave us our glasses of water. Just as I finished my bowl of pasta the presumed manager came back and asked if we were done, I didn't even have a chance to answer and he picked up both of our dishes and walked away-- my girlfriend still had half a bowl of soup left she hadn't finished. He came back with a bill and impatiently waited for us to pay. This guy was clearly trying to get us to leave as soon as possible. We probably sat at the table for a total of ten minutes, when we were hoping to have a nice romantic dinner date. We felt like trash and totally unwelcomed. We had no idea why he treated us so rudely, maybe he was having a bad day? Maybe he didn't want to serve customers who were clearly in their early twenties? Maybe he didn't care for making tourists experience a nice dinner, since most tourists do not live there and won't return, (my girlfriend and I moved to Netherlands to study for four years so there could have been his opportunity to make new returning customers). Or maybe there were reservations at our table and we ruined some other customer's schedule, (we did not see any reservation signs on our table, but we did see reservation signs on other tables, so we know they own those signs)? If that's the case then we would have much prefered being told we cannot eat there over having such rushed and rude service. There are some people whose calling it is to work in restaurant service, people who enjoy interacting with other people and giving them a great eating experience, tonight this man did not show to us that he is someone who enjoys what he does. -- as for food quality, my girlfriend ate the vegetable soup which she said was not bad and not good. My gluten free pasta was alright, I might have wanted to return in the future to try more gluten free pasta options if the service wasn't so disrespectful. read more

The first time I went to this restaurant was in 2009. Ten years ago. And I remember loving the food at this place. I was back in Amsterdam after nine years and went back to Ristorante Savini and the food was just as delicious as I remembered it. Their spaghetti alla amatriciana was still on point. This time around, I tried the ravioli with Parmesan, butter and truffles (they shave black truffles onto this dish). It was amazing!!! But better than the food, is their service. Four of us had dinner at Savini. We were greeted with handshake and smiles. All the staff was personable and answered questions we had about the menu items. Two of us had the specials: baked whole fish with potato and fresh vegetables, lobster and shrimp with linguini. Two dishes from the regular menu: salami pizza and sliced sirloin with tomato sauce and linguini. All of these dishes were delicious. My steak tomato sauce was spicy hot. Pizza was thin crust. Lobster was half lobster tail & a few shrimp. The fish was properly done and tasty. The pizza was enough for two, not a personal pizza. According to Yelp I'm one minute away from this restaurant - but rest assured I'm sitting right in the middle of it! It's a nice summer night on the corner of Spuistraat and Kattengat where the outdoor seating for Ristaurante Savani is located. Large, red square umbrellas protect me from a cool and unexpected shower. I arrived Amsterdam just this morning without adequate sleep on the flight; a good tummy-warming Italian meal I felt would lull me too sleep. I stumbled upon Savani at the end of a short row of restaurants which mostly offer steaks - but I was craving Italian - so Savani it is! A glass of Chianti and tap water (allegedly the best in Europe according to the sticker on the sink in my hotel room!) and I was ready for food. Try the garden salad with goat cheese with a light dressing and a little salt and pepper - perfect. (And they have the courtesy to put the salt and pepper mills right on the table to use at your discretion!). There's a broad selection of vegetarian and non- vegetarian dishes including pasta, pizza, salads, soup, and others. While I settled for the Penne Arrabiatta (extra Parmesan cheese please! It's free after all!) the Italian couple next to me had pasta and clams, pasta and chicken, steak and mixed vegetables. I figure if the Italians are eating here - it can't be all bad! Some tourists and locals. And the wait staff - a delight and very easy on the eyes, especially the young man and young woman! They speak at least four languages which is a relief for the tourists and were helpful, responsive, polite, and friendly to a fault!
