Tasty meal before concert and lucky I came @6pm as by 7pm the place was packed. I was given menu but waiter forgot to tell me about the specials which are written in chalk. Service is interesting - only one waiter who takes the order and brings the food and drinks, one busboy, one person you pay at the cash register. One chef you see through the window. Ambiance is cozy and rustic. House wine is Montepulciano and its medium body and delicious. Salad was fresh and seafood pasta was large amount of pasta and seafood. Highly recommended! read more

Found Trattoria Totò, a small Italian restaurant while walking to our favorite coffee shop in Amsterdam, and we decided that we should make a reservation for that night right after dropping our bags off at our nearby hotel. Boy, we got lucky that we did. My parents and I have been in Europe for almost two weeks now and I kept thinking that I was in Italy the entire time while at this restaurant, as we did so much traveling. It was within walking distance of the hotel we were staying at, which was a plus. The restaurant is so small that it only has about eight tables and one waiter doing all the work, plus two chefs working in the kitchen. During our time there, lots of people that did not have a reservation were being turned away. We were seated at a table that had a decent view of the kitchen, though trying to get into my seat was a little tight. We started off with a glass of Pinot Grigio white wine, which is basically what we've been drinking at like every restaurant during our trip. This time, rather than sharing a bottle that was at our table, we just had the wine from the glass. After trying out so many different kinds of white wines over the past two weeks, I think I've grown to enjoy them so far. The food here was outstanding and delicious. I had the Pasta Bolognese, my dad had the ham and mushroom pizza, and my mom had the ravioli. The pasta just exploded with flavor in my mouth, including the Bolognese itself. My dad commented that this was one of the best pizzas he's ever had so far, and my mom commented that her ravioli was super flavorful, including the sauce that came with it. This is your taste of Italy right here in Amsterdam. Would highly recommend to other people! read more

Since we have been there twice, you can guess that we really like this place! Located in a step down basement, you can sit in the window and people or check out the paintings on the wall by the owner. He's quite good. The salads are really fresh. The calzone was good and the orchietti Marinara with meatballs was just as good. Oh, try a Demi of their house red wine. Want desert? Try the frozen lemon with ice cream. Best Barada cheese I've had in a long time from the Barada cheese appetizer. The veal with the prosciutto was absolutely divine! You could tell the quality of the prosciutto was top notch. This restaurant is very authentic. It is underground and small. The servers were fast but not very friendly. The tables are really close to eachother so you are close to the strangers next to you. I got the pesto pasta and my boyfriend got the lasagna. The lasagna was good but very cheesy. The pesto pasta was delicious but a little too much pesto. We had to ask for parmesan for our pastas. We also ordered a half liter of the house red which tasted good. read more

Delicious does not do this restaurant justice. Truly authentic Italian tucked off a side street in Amsterdam. We got the burrata special. Fresh tomatoes and arugula accompanied the large serving of burrata. Just amazing. I got the eggplant parmigiana and my hubby got the veal. Delightful. We shared a tiramisu. We went to this restaurant mainly for its proximity to the hotel and for the usual reason anyone goes out for Italian food: the flavors. We arrived at about 9 on a Saturday night and the cosy restaurant was about half full. We were offered a very nice lacquered wooden table carved from a big dead tree at the window. The menu was quite small, with not terribly much variety. My boyfriend is vegetarian and wanted the vegetarian lasagna. However, when ordering it, the waitress (a real Italian, who was speaking Italian to us) she shook her head dubiously to make us understand that this wasn't actually on the menu. He ended up choosing like me, a spinach and ricotta cannelloni dish. The meal was humdrum. It was totally something I could have made at home and the portions were ridiculous. The cannelloni were half filled and extremely limp. At 15€ for the dish, each disappointing cannelloni cost 5€. I'll do the math for you... That's 3 disappointingly half-filled limp cannelloni that left a lot to be desired and a lot of space in my stomach. What is more (or less!) is that the only bread that was offered was 4 measly slices of bread. No joke. They were probably as wide as two 2€ coins side-by-side. The service wasn't bad per se. We weren't treated with outright disrespect, but for the prices you're paying here, you shouldn't feel like your lazy sister is being put out by making you dinner. I didn't have a dessert... Very good really authentic italian restaurant. After several days of Germanic food in Germany and Austria we were looking for a change of pace in Amsterdam. We did a search on the internet and came across this restaurant. What a pleasant surprise. The host was a native italian. The food was real italian. My husband had mussels and tiny clams in a great olive oil sauce and I had eggplant parm. The second plate was a paccieri (very large rigatoni type pasta shape) with cherry tomatoes and mozzarella, in a lightly creamy sauce barely dressed but very tasty. The owner was very knowledeable about wine and enjoyed make us feel at home. You can't go wrong if your looking for italian in Amsterdam. read more

While in Amsterdam I was looking for a place small, not so busy, and close to my hotel when I stumbled into this place. The service was ok and the food was ok but not great. We dined there on Sept 7. The owner was new (said he had owned the place for 3 months.) We went there as it was walking distance from our hotel and we had had a strenuous day. Both our hotel concierge and another reviewer mentioned small portions; nothing could be further from what we experienced. We had glasses of 2-3 Italian wines, and the most incredible seafood antipasto ever. We really didn't need entrees afterwards. It was a Sunday night, and only a few tables were occupied. I recommend the plentiful, authentic food here, particularly the fresh-from-the-sea fish. I again want to underscore that the portions were quite generous. I recommend this little place near the museum district for a change from the usual Amsterdam fare. read more

Had lovely meal there with Dominica our waiter making great recommendations. Small, intimate a bit eclectic. Being from America learn to gear down ....you're in Europe and the pace is slower but the food is good. Recommend the Linguine with seafood. read more
