We knew going in that this restaurant likely wouldn't be too kid friendly but had wanted to try out the food. Service was great though and our waitress was attentive - she had the bread brought out asap to stifle little belly hungers and our food came out spectacularly swift! They also managed to scramble up some crayons and scrap paper, which we appreciated. Taste of food was on point and flavors of our pasta brought out wonderfully. My little one is picky on fresh bread - Piccolo's passed this picky eater's tastebuds! Only point to dock was our glasses went empty without refills but overall service and food were great. So good ! First of all a shout out to our server, Lana. She was so sweet and attentive and made it a special night for my friends and I who I don't see very often. They have a good selection on their regular menu and also an extensive specials menu. Also lots of options for vegetarians which is nice. I had one of the specials which was a homemade pasta with truffles and it was out of this world. I am very picky about my Italian food and this place was spectacular. It's a bit pricey but worth it for the quality of food. They also didn't rush us out even as they were closing and we were the last ones there which I greatly appreciate. read more

I have not been to the restaurant in a couple years, and the food, service, and ambiance have all deteriorated. The appetizers took half an hour, and then we sat for over an additional hour before our entrees were served. No refills of our empty waters, no refills on our empty wine glasses, and a complete disappearance of our waitress. No explanation or forewarning of the extended delays. No attempt by management to address the issues, other than the waitress saying "sorry, I hope you come back" when we paid the bill (no concessions were offered). Four of us had a very enjoyable special occasion dinner here on Tuesday night. Our server was professional and very helpful and answered questions about the food and wines flawlessly. I started off with a glass of the Josh Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon that I really enjoyed, not too sweet, not too bitter, just about perfect, at least for my taste. Our table shared an order of the Calamari Fritti ($13) - "squid lightly dusted in flour, deep fried and served with a spicy tomato pepper sauce". I like calamari a lot and am occasionally disappointed by the pencil eraser-like consistency I see once in a while. But not Tuesday - the calamari was tender and neither oily nor super crunchy. Again, the word "perfect" comes to mind. My salad choice was the Insalata Mista ($6) - mixed greens with a balsamic vinaigrette or creamy gorgonzola vinaigrette. It was terrific- shredded Romaine, radicchio, carrots, and strips of red bell peppers tossed in a creamy and delicious vinaigrette. My entrée was Fusilli Zingara ($22) - homemade fusilli with grilled chicken, wild mushrooms and spinach, finished with a roasted garlic butter sauce and parmigiano reggiano. I don't even know where to start to describe it, because I loved everything about it. And because this was a special occasion, we all went for desserts. I had the Bread Pudding - "Warm chocolate bread pudding with raspberry sauce and vanilla gelato". That should be classified as a controlled substance because it was that good. Came here with coworkers when in town for a business trip. Looking for a nice meal for a group, but we don't know the area well. All in all, positive experience. We didn't look at the wine book. It looked extensive but not many of us were drinking. We shared some bruschetta which was good. The table bread was served with a generous olive oil pour. Dishes were flavorful with nice presentation. I had the zucchini blossoms and a salad which were both very good. Some colleagues got pasta or meat main dishes and everyone was happy with their food. The waitress was pleasant, no complaints. It's a little hard to see the parking lot alongside the building at night and the courses were paced a little too slow for our hungry crew. So not a 5 star perfection but definitely good and worth a visit. read more

Well, after many years away, count me pleasantly surprised. Turns out there's still some life left on this Italian mainstay. In fact this wa s our first meal as a family since the Pandemic winter. We sat in their outdoor dining in their parking lot. Tables were big and it was plenty safe. Food was really good. Loved the squash blossoms and fried calamari. The gnocchi was outstanding. The tomato sauce was light enough while the meatballs were delish. Desserts were solid. Enjoyed the bread pudding this go around. The service was top notch. Water glasses refilled promptly and just altogether spot on. The crowd was a bit older. It's not to new kid on the block but this place is still worth checking out. read more

we had a 630 reservation for eight people on a Tuesday evening in June. The restaurant was pretty empty, but apparently they had a private party in the back . At 8:45pm, we still had not received our entrées. We waited over two hours and when we asked our waiter and management to make it right, they took 10% off of the bill. Extremely disappointing. The waiter went to bat for us with management and management refused to do more than 10% of the bill. at the very least, the bar bill should've been taken care of. We only had six drinks total. While water came to the table quickly, the waiter was slow to take our cocktail order, and the cocktail order was slow to arrive despite the fact that the bar was completely empty (at 7 pm on a Friday night). The dining room was fairly full. The calamari fritti was good. Both our main meals, two veal dishes, needed more flavor. No garnish, potatoes not hot. Half of our party showed up later and the staff was more than helpful in accommodating to make sure we were all together. What happened? This used to be one of our favorite places to dine and celebrate a birthday! The lamb chops were always flavorful and were definitely worth the price. We were celebrating a friend's birthday on a Thursday night and looked forward to a wonderful meal. Not only were the portions small, they were mediocre. My salmon was served on a very hot plate, but the fish was room temperature. The chicken parm tasted OK, but the vegetables were very mushy. The lamb chops were dry and tasteless. Another in our party ordered a pasta dish reminiscent of a school cafeteria meal. The cannoli were also a disappointment. The quality and portions of the food did not warrant the high prices. It was a real pleasure to eat at a "real restaurant" in the Hartford area where the service was professional, the food was high quality, superbly prepared. There were 6 of this there for dinner for a special occasion. We shared a few salads and cocktails first. I enjoyed my anchovies appetizer; I love the little fish. Main entries we ordered included ravioli, seared tuna, a good old fashioned chicken parm. Desserts included Crème Brule and tiramisu. Yum! PA has a decent wine list -- we loved the pinot noir we got to savor. Can't wait to go back. Lovely place. Lovely food. Terrific service. What's not to like? Enjoy. read more

Piccolo Arancio was great! I went with a party of four to celebrate a special occasion on a Friday night. Thankfully I made a reservation because it was pretty packed! Drinks wise, one thing to note is that Piccolo Arancio has an extensive wine selection, including some expensive and very high quality wines! If you are into wine, I'd encourage you to check out this place. For appetizers, we started with the fried calamari. The flour breading wasn't as crisp as I would prefer, but it was expertly seasoned with rosemary and thyme and included fried banana peppers and lemon slices. For my entree, I ordered the filet mignon. It was cooked perfectly to order and served with a green peppercorn sauce and sides of creamy, buttery mashed red potatoes and seasonal vegetables. The vegetables were the weakest point of the entree, lacking substantial flavor, but otherwise everything was excellent. The dessert options were traditional Italian (tiramisu, gelato, profiteroles, etc.) but we chose to not order because it was very filling and because waitstaff took a long time to approach the table. Overall, the food was great but the service left something to be desired - the server was not particularly attentive, especially toward the end of the meal when we were considering dessert. I haven't been to Piccolo Arancio in several years, but recently went for a work lunch. What used to be one of my favorite restaurants has definitely gone down hill. The service was still top notch, our server was quite attentive the whole time we were there. The food was only so so. My favorite part of the meal was the salad dressing (Gorgonzola vinaigrette) and that's really kind of sad. The salad itself was blah. I ordered a baked pasta dish and it was pretty flavorless and bland. Even dumping a ton of grated cheese on it didn't really help. I guess if I hadn't been there in the past when this was the go to place in Farmington, I wouldn't have been so disappointed. It was fine...but nowhere near what it used to be. Their other restaurant, Peopercorn's, is leaps and bounds above in terms of food quality. With so many other restaurants in the area, Piccolo Arancio needs to step up their game if they want to be back on top. read more

We went there for Valentine's day and it was the worse experience in my entire dining history .. We sat at the restaurant for 3 hours and never even got our meal!!! When we first were seated no one came to take our order so we escalated to Manager. The Manager took our order and then we sat for 2 hours while others that came after us received their order and cashed out !! We finally asked several wait staff where are food was (none of which had the guts to answer) so they just ignored us until the one waitress, who must have drawn the short straw came to us and told us our order never got the kitchen !! Really I exclaimed but what about the gentleman who took our order he's right there walking to the back ask him what happened !! The wait staff said they had no idea who the gentleman in the suit was (who appeared to be the manager). I guess he was the order taken imposter !! They then apologized and said our salad s and glass of wines were on them !! It was 9:45 we could not even get food any where!! We then proceeded to leave the restaurant and saw the order taken suited imposter and told him that he never entered the order. He showed us the proof he entered the order and apologized. He then gave us a gift card.. What happened to the order ? We suspect there was no waitress assigned to the table so when the order was made no waitress took it to us !! They covered the failures by throwing the suited order taken imposter under the bus, claiming they did not know him !! Needless to say we paid a babysitter and had no food and the worst experience ever !! read more

A knowledgeable waitress helped pick out a good pairing to accompany the chicken dish I'd intended to order. The food was solid, not the best, but definitely serviceable.
