branzino was creative and uniquely presented.
    Paul B.

I really enjoyed the food here with a few exceptions that must be talked about at first. There is a very strange scent when first walking in that hits you like a ton of bricks and takes a while to get used to. Not sure what that was, but it wasn't pleasant. I'm thinking there might be a plumbing issue, but it should addressed. If it wasn't for everything else, my birthday dinner could have potentially been ruined. Thank god the food and service met expectations. As for the food, I liked the Arancini, however still processing the Brie cheese version. I really like the traditional version with peas and pecorino flavors. Maybe it wasn't what I expected but they disappeared in 4 minutes, so I guess they were pretty good. The Branzino was very good. The "romesco" was not what was expected, but the dish was nicely prepared. There were a couple bones in it that didn't make it out, and that's always an unwelcome surprise, and traditionally an unfortunate part of ordering this fish. The filleting was properly done and the presentation was colorful and inventive. The pasta dish was outstanding. The pasta itself had an amazing semolina flavor, texture and suppleness was perfect. The sauce was delicious with hints of saffron, and the shrimp and calamari was generous and fresh in its texture and cook. The mussels were perfection and sweet, all perfectly sized. Anything larger would have ruined this dish. I think a couple scallops would have made this the perfect dish. But, I will be back for this. Server was attentive, articulate, and friendly, She was very good at understanding when to interrupt, and approached with sensitivity if we were engaged in conversation. I thought she was outstanding. Home run there. The tiramisu was also delicious and authentic. Just the right amount of cream to lady fingers, and the mascarpone was thick and perfectly sweet, but not anywhere near some restaurants that jack up the sugar. I highly recommend it. The decor was modern, well coordinated, and super chic. A cross between Boho and Mid Century Modern. I loved that the pillows and the banquets weren't worn, torn and frayed, and appreciated the well maintained condition of pillows and level of comfort. It's what attracted us to the place. I'm sure we will be back, hopefully we'll try the patio in spring and summer. I hope they're able to address the unfortunate lingering odor. It does affect the dinner if you get there early when the air isn't perfumed with food and people.

Delicious meal! Fresh tasting food and service was amazing. The ambience of the restaurant is beautiful! Wonderful for a date night, a netting or a Girls Night. Staff was wonderful and friendly. Highly recommend Vila Mulino! You can't go wrong..

Absolute gem! We had a fantastic dinner for a group of 6 - we made a reservation expecting it to be absolutely packed but were thankful it was quieter during our visit. The decor is gorgeous especially the holiday / seasonal pieces. Service was outstanding all evening. We shared oysters, fried zucchini, arancini, and beef carpaccio to start, as well as the buffala salad. All were delicious but the fried zucchini are a must! The fruitti di mare pasta was a standout as was the bolognese. The tiramisu martini was also an unexpected treat - essentially a creamier and less-coffee forward espresso martini! Highly recommend and will absolutely return.

The search is over.... I found it!! My top 1 restaurant in CT. If you like Italian cuisine.. it's well worth a trip. Right from the outside, to the interiors, to the food... I love everything about this place.. it's nothing short of spectacular. Everything I ate was delicious, this was my first time eating Fried Zucchini Blossoms ... they were as delicate, crispy ..the ricotta with the balsamic glaze was perfection with every bite. Another dish that blew my mind was Cacio E Pepe... simple but explosive flavors . The vegetable panini... was the sandwich that stole the spotlight, came with a side of chips (that I could probably eat a whole bag off) and salad. Not to forget the crafted cocktails, I forgot what it's called but it was cucumber + kiwi + mint... you can have it made as a mocktail too. Was absolutely magical!! I would highly recommend you give this place a try!!

I had my birthday dinner at Villa Mulino and booked the silo for me and my friends! The entire restaurant is gorgeous. Their bar is lit so well and was packed the entire night. I started with the Caesar salad and got cacio e pepe with steak for dinner. Their caesar dressing is so fresh and while that may not be for everyone, I loved it! It's a decent size as well, one of my friends had it for her entree. The pasta was delicious but I would've preferred a bit more black pepper. Their cocktails are amazing! This was a martini themed dinner so a bunch were coming to the table and being passed around to drink. I will say, I didn't like the aperitivo even though it was beautifully crafted. I prefer sweeter cocktails whereas this one, understandably, wasn't. This spot is definitely worth the visit and getting cute for! A special thank you to the staff who were trying to help me get the perfect bday pic lol.

Villa Mulino is located in Riverdale Farms, in Avon. It looks a bit unassuming from the outside, but it looks pretty upscale from the inside. From the brightly lit interior, to the plush seats, these are just some of the ways Villa Mulino will show their class. At the bar area, they had a TV screen showing the UCONN Women's Basketball take home the Championship title. I'm mentioning this, because part of our party wanted to stay home to watch the game. Well they were pretty happy that Villa Mulino had the game on, and the end result is making all of Connecticut beam with pride. They also had some happy Italian music setting the scene. For my cocktail, I got the Bilancia. This is a very tasty bourbon based, peach infused cocktail. It came with a tiny paper plane clipped to the glass! I got the burrata as my appetizer. This was light and fresh. It came with colorful beets, oranges, pomegranate and some greens. The burrata was super fresh, I could see myself returning to Villa Mulino to have it as lunch sometime. For my meal I got the Shrimp Flatbread. This flatbread was as thin as a cracker, but layered with a ton of mozzarella, a nice amount of shrimp and cherry tomatoes. The star of the show was the Tuna Tartare, that I wished I ordered my self. This was tiny cubes of fresh tuna, in a dome shape, topped with avocado. If you like tuna, this is it, it is super fresh, light and filling. For the dessert we concluded with a chocolate mousse pistachio cake. We also got a creme brûlée with cranberries on the side. The chocolate cake was very small, but super creamy, with a hard outer chocolate layer, and some crunchy pistachios throughout. The cream brûlée was a classic choice, however the cranberries were totally unnecessary. We had a lovely time at Villa Mulino. This is a classy upscale, Italian establishment that is sure to impress.

Bravo Villa Mulino!! We had a fantastic dining experience at Villa Mulino. Kudos to my fellow elite yelpers from the Hartford, Connecticut area, for your thorough and insight reviews. When we landed at Hartford airport, I immediately jumped on yelp to find food, and to my surprise, I found this gem as we were on our way to another restaurant-but gps worked wonders, and we made a seamless detour to Villa Mulino. The ambiance is 100%...it reminds me of the cute vibey places in Washington DC, specifically in Adams Morgan and Georgetown areas. There's plenty of natural light, plush seating, gold accents, and beautiful natural colors and palette. Whoever designed the scheme of this restaurant did a fantastic job! And the food was ahhhhmazing!!! Probably some of the best Italian food Ive had outside of Italy. I read a few previous reviews stating that the food was subpar, but I give a serious side-eye to those reviews. The Frutti di Mare was so tasteful! We slurped up the remaining sauce with the fresh table bread. It was that good!! The branzino, salmon, and halibut were all cooked to perfection, and were all served with the perfect texture and flavors accompaniments. And their daily special menu included a dessert cream cheese mousse topped with a forest fruit jam served on a graham cracker crust..**chef's kiss** And our amazing server, as well as the staff, were all attentive and courteous!! Ive already told my family in Massachusetts to make the short trek to the scenic Avon, CT area and try out this gorgeous vibey establishment. Highly recommend!

    Italian Job drink

checked out Villa Mulino with my husband for the first time this past week to celebrate our anniversary. 5 stars for the adorable interior! Really nice ambiance. We were going to sit outside but when we arrived realized the plaza it's in was not ideal space with several daycares all around it you could hear kids screaming and crying right off their patio. Also, overlooks parking lots so we decided to dine in. The only complaint was we were seated right near a table of 6 that were seated so close to our table for 2 that I couldn't even get into my seat due to one from that party pushed way out. I wish tables were set a bit further apart. I'm very surprised the host sat us next to that large party knowing we were there the two of us for an anniversary when their were other more private tables available that night. I wish I had spoken up for another seat. The food and drinks had some hits and some misses. We started with 3 apps: arancini (a bit bland tasting and dry. Not good reheated leftover at all. Three out), the ricotta stuffed squash blossoms were my fave of the apps but also lacked some flavor and could've been seasoned better. I won't judge the octopus app because it is not my cup of tea and was my husbands. My meal was the short ribs and I was disappointed as they were a bit fatty for My taste. I kept having to cut off grisle. I liked my Italian Job drink. Very pretty. But the second drink with coconut cream based foam curdled in the juicy drink part after a bit. I don't think the creamy foam worked on there due to the curdling. The chocolate mouse cake for dessert was yummy. Not sure if we'd be back because not a stand out for food. Meals all looked very pretty but just okay. The decor was the best part.

Staff here is incredible. All smiles, all willing to go above and beyond to make the evening special. We had a large party of about 14 and they handled everything so professionally and never forgot a single item or delayed in tending to our needs. Perfection. The ambiance is beautiful as well. It's dark and moody but also bright and inviting. Hard to explain but it just works! Classic vibes with modern touches. The separate seating areas are stunning. Drinks and food were also very good. Prices are higher as you'd expect for the area but I feel like you do get pretty good value for what you're paying. Overall very happy with our night here. Would recommend it for a special dinner or celebration.

"Don Quixote had his windmills Ponce De Leon took his cruise Took Sinbad seven voyages To see that it was all a ruse That's why I'm looking for the next best thing" (Warren Zevon) After long time Avon landmark Toshi closed, I was wondering what next best thing would take over that unique building with the silo? Well, that question was decisively answered at today's lunch date when we paid our first visit to Villa Mulino. The thing that struck us as we walked through their door was how incredibly beautiful the restaurant is. Gone is the old Toshi interior and sushi bar. A Parisienne designer was involved in the redesign, and frankly the use of colors is stunning - with orange splashes on the walls and furniture and some subtle touches in the way the green napkins match the green accented decoration around the bar. An Instagram worthy interior can be found everywhere you look. We went into their lunch menu, and both selected a panini served with house made chips and a House Salad of Arugula, Romaine, Cherry Tomato, Cucumber, and Balsamic dressing. My Hanger Steak Panini ($16) featured Broccoli Rabe, Caramelized Onion, Mozzarella, and Sun-Dried Tomato Aioli on a toasted baguette with a very generous portion of tender steak. My wife's Prosciutto Di Parma Panini ($14) included Sliced Mozzarella, Arugula, Whole Grain Mustard, and quite a bit of lean high-quality Prosciutto on a toasted baguette. The sandwiches were simply fantastic! I loved my steak panini -everything about it excelled from the lean steak to the sauteed onions and tender broccoli rabe to the tomato dressing, and to the perfectly toasted bread. Our server Njomza was professional, courteous, and quite a delight. We really enjoyed talking to her, and she shared her pride in the restaurant by giving us a tour of the big dining room and talking about some of the artwork on display. I want to compliment the restaurant on their choice of background music -a blend of easy listening/soft rock versions of gorgeous female vocalists reworking tunes by Tina Turner, Adele, Roberta Flack, Phil Collins, Elton John, the Temps, Leonard Cohen, Whitney Houston, and Kate Bush. The volume was low enough for us to have a conversation, but loud enough to appreciate the songs. It was cold and rainy outside, so we both ordered a coffee to warm us up, and that turned out to be the only off-note in our visit. The Lavazza coffees were delicious, but they were $4 apiece, and so were the refills. I cannot remember the last time I was charged for a coffee refill, but Njomza said it was policy, so we reluctantly paid $16 for our four cups. Had we known in advance, I sure would have sipped my first coffee slower. But I am not letting that misstep detract from a five-star review, because we fell in love with Villa Mullino's food, decor, and sexy vibe. It instantly jumped onto our short list of special restaurants that we'll look forward to patronizing with family and friends.

How pretty is this modern decor. So comfortable and inviting. The bar is beautiful, all the seats are so comfortable. Don't forget to check out the bathroom. So beautiful. A lot of time was taken to develop the special cocktails. They have about a dozen to choose from. I had the Italian Job which is a michters single barrel rye, amareno, blood orange, blood orange amareno. Delicious. My friend had the CONFINE DI THIRA kerel one botanical cucumber & mint, st. germain, kiwi, cucumber, citrus. So delicious and beautiful. I started with the zucchini blossoms which is the zucchini flowers stuffed with ricotta cheese lightly fried. One of my favorites. We had fresh oysters with a delicious mignonette sauce. I had the mushroom truffle pasta. Wild Mushrooms, Truffle, Garlic, Parmigiano Cream. Perfect. CHICKEN MILANESE was served with Fingerling Potato, Arugula Salad, Shaved Fennel, Parmigiano Reggiano, Cherry Tomato, Lemon Vinaigrette. Very moist. SALMON ALLA SICILIANA Heirloom Carrot, Fingerling Potato, Cherry Tomato, Baby Spinach, Caper Lemon Beurre. Perfectly cooked. Moist and satisfying. For dessert we had to try everything since the food was so good. Chocolate mouse, gelato, crème brûlée and tiramisu. All very good. Our server Lauren was wonderful. Very knowledgeable and attentive. Great beautiful ambiance with wonderful food and a caring environment.

We started our dinner with the garlic Parmesan Tuscan wings - so crispy, so flavorful - and the truffle fries - crispy outside and pillow inside, just enough truffle flavor. For the main course, I got the Valentine special - sirloin and lobster. The most I can say about it is that it was filling. The sirloin was cooked well, but the meat was just tough. The lobster was also on the small side and stuck to the shell ( a good portion of the meat was missed because I wasn't allowed to eat like a savage). For $42, I could have made a better choice. My wife got the pork chops - now that was a good pick! The glaze was sweet, but not too sweet, and she even enjoyed the squash (which she rarely eats). For dessert, I got the tiramisu, which was again okay, nothing spectacular. My wife enjoyed the valentine dessert (a red velvet cake with cream cheese and covered in chocolate). The biggest flaw I saw is their seating arrangement - we felt very claustrophobic. For parties of two, they have a huge series of benches with a tiny table and chairs on the other side. We were initially seated between two couples (one of which was the end), and they moved their table so my tiny wife can squeeze in between to sit on the bench. I'm so glad they left soon after and we asked to take their seat. I regret some of my choices, and should have tempered my expectations, mistaking this place as a fancy restaurant. It was a decent experience, perhaps shaded by a busy Friday date night.

The salad was a tremendous mixture of sliced tomatoes, vegetables and cheeses with shaved sirloin that was cooked perfectly medium rare. This was an excellent dish. Another had the spaghetti carbonara, which had a beautiful flavor of smokey guanciale and creamy al dente pasta. Superb with lots of parmigiana reggiano. Lastly, we had the eggplant. You can see from the picture that this was a gigantic dish that could've easily fed three people! Our service was right on point and outstanding. Because my daughter indicated she had been into Greece recently, brought us over a slice of a fantastic three-layer cake with a chocolate ganache. If you have no other reason than to come to DaCapo, try the dessert. It's absolutely worth a trip. The portions are exuberant and we brought about half of our food home. Four of us ate for about $130 and I left a $30 tip. This was just excellent and we will be back.

For our main, the kids loved the homemade mac & cheese, and my husband ordered the pork chop... he cleaned his entire plate! I had the Chicken Parm Brooklyn with vodka sauce and cherry peppers and WOW it was amazing. So flavorful and the cherry peppers gave it the perfect kick. Not too spicy! "But when I see you darlin' It's like we both are fallin' in…read morelove again It'll be just like startin' over" (John Lennon) After a very successful 34-year run at 70 East Main Street in Avon, Max A Mia has started over by moving about two miles west into the Avon Marketplace in a spot previously occupied by Bertucci's. The makeover is stunning and Max A Mia's design team really deserves a lot of credit for putting together such a gorgeous design. The walled bar that used to be closed in is now open and very inviting, and the open dining room furniture and décor look modern and glitzy. Their dinner menu speaks with an Italian accent, so you'll see Minestrone, Arancini, Meatballs, Pasta, Parmigiana, Lasagne, and Pizzas among the fish, chicken, and steak choices. Arianna was our server, and she was a gem. With an engaging personality off the charts, she wowed us with her effortless knowledge of the menu, explaining every minute detail of the cocktail and meal specials we asked about. She started us off with a complimentary basket of assorted breads served with a baked head of garlic and a ramekin of tomato sugo. Three of us had cocktails, a Rio Lowball ($13) with cacacha, sauvignon blanc syrup, and lime quarters, a Paper Plane ($13) with bourbon, aperol, amaro, and lemon, and one of their non-alcohol choices -a Pink & Bubbly ($10). Max a Mia takes non-alcoholic drinks seriously, they were quite a few NA cocktails on the menu PLUS four NA wines ($10-$14/glass) for a Sparkling Reisling, a Riesling, a Sauvignon Blanc, and a Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot. I definitely wasn't in an NA mood, so the Paper Plane was my choice after a discussion with Arianna. She gave me great advice, because it was strong, smooth, and excellent. Our meal choices were from every corner of Max a Mia's menu - two Lobster Fra Diavlos (@ $36), a Brooklyn Chicken Parmigiana ($31), an Eggplant Lasagna ($27), and a Truffle Mushroom Pizza ($19). I was one of the Lobster Fra Diavlos, and I have to tell ya, it was one of the best meals I've had all year. It was one of the evening's specials, and Arianna described it in detail - a half pound of lobster meat, an in-depth explanation of Buccatini pasta, and reassurance that I was OK with a "spicy" sauce, which I enthusiastically am. The lobster was perfect, the pasta was great, and yes... that sauce sure was spicy. We ended the evening with a visit to the dessert menu with a Tiramisu ($9), a Bocci Ball ($9 with bonus points for presentation because it came out sliced), an Affogato, and a big dish of vanilla gelato ($7). I had the Affogato (Espresso, vanilla gelato, house made biscotti) and it was a perfect mix of flavors and textures. Our pre-Thanksgiving family meal was fantastic, and we enjoyed every detail of the food, service, atmosphere, and the manager's visit who came over to chat with us. Five stars for sure. Historical Note So, what became of the old Max A Mia space? Today it's occupied by Dogology pet supplies and New England Puppy Rescue.

I could only get down barely half the glass of cab and when I called her over to send it back, she never asked if it was ok etc. or why I did t finish it. And I did ask her how the cab was before I ordered it and she said great! Clearly never tried wine before. I also saw that I was charged for the bad wine. No biggie, but in a better place they would have tried to make it right. I tried a Hendrick's and tonic next, and the tonic water was definitely flat. I tried to ask nicely if the tonic water was flat and she never even tried it, just saying oh no, it's fine. Very disappointed with that service and the drinks were terrible. As for the food, they might not have any spices in the kitchen as the meatballs could have had some seasoning added so they didn't taste so bland! Pizza was eh at best. Someone should teach them about salt and how a little bit brings out the real flavors! We won't go back...the wait staff seemed more interested in talking to each other than they did the customers. And the side of the bar nearest the door was cold as they kept one set of doors open, so always a cold blast coming in. No wonder so many restaurants are failing these days.

he pizza here is amazing, but the service is horrible. The average age of the restaurant personnel…read moremust be 20 and no sign of anyone with more experience managing the chaos. Here's the background, I ordered a pizza via Toast at 2:00 for a 5:45 pickup. When I arrived I was told that it would be 10 mins. 30 minutes later I finally asked them to check on our pizza. Miraculously it came out. COME ON! That is completely unsatisfactory! Before all the excuses start, just stop. It is the restaurant's responsibility to manage its line. I get "slammed" but the seating area wasn't packed. The bar area was full with mostly what seemed to be other folks waiting on their take away. Get some adult supervision out front and control your line production better

3.5: Solid pizza but skimpy toppings…read more We have enjoyed Little City since it was in Simsbury but the last few times we've not been thrilled with what you get for the price. The large pizzas were $20 and with the additional three toppings per pizza, came to around $30. While mushrooms and spinach both shrink, the toppings were not plentiful. Same with the artichoke, pepper and tomato (hard to see). We had to supplement the toppings with extra tomatoes and garlic. For what we got, it would better to just make our own at home. Or just get plain pizzas and put your own sauteed toppings on. We do like the thin crust and the veggie panini was pretty good though I'd prefer the filling to be more than the covering.
