    Half Portion of Chicken Parmesan
    Adsana S.

This was my first time here with my partner and our friends. It was a great and amazing experience that I just can't say enough about. I honestly wish I could have taken the time to share the photos of everything but We just wasted no time getting into everything. We were happily greeted by the owner and I assume to be his wife. He welcomed us into the restaurant and guided us to the perfect seats to accommodate us 4. The restaurant isn't big but it provides the perfect ambiance for a date night. Especially when you can bring your own bottle of wine and or alcohols of choice since it's BYOB and it's only a $2.50 per person charge and your glasses, cups, and ice are provided. It's a wonderful thing and not many restaurants do that anymore. A total hidden gem We started off with the garlic bread. It was phenomenal to say the least, absolutely unlike anything I've had before. It was like a mini baguette that had slices diagonally and the sliced parts had cheese in them and the bread and everything was smothered in this delightful garlicky butter. Careful it comes out hot, I just couldn't wait to dig in. The next thing we had was a special on the board called Grilled Italian Sausage. That was great, I love sausage and it was grilled with onions and peppers. And for a third appetizer, I chose the hot Buffalo mozzarella. Before you assume it is not the spicy Buffalo some may think, it is breaded mozzarella di bufala that is covered in sauce and baked to melty perfection. The cheese is amazing and so fresh. Everyone loved it. It was hot, melty, gooey, saucy, and just the right amount of crisp from the breading. For our main entrees me and my partner ordered the chicken parm to share since we had so many appetizers. So pictured is only a half portion.. I can only imagine the normal portion and plating would be quite large and you would never even think of leaving hungry. Before our shared entree came, we got our house salads with their house made garlic dressing. One comes with the meal and I ordered another one so we could both each have one. The greens were fresh and crispy, no soggy or expired salad bits here. The dressing was garlicky and creamy and the chef/owner put on just the right amount. You'll definitely have to try it! Onto the entree, we asked to split the chicken parm and he plated and split the meal for both of us and we were just in awe when it came. Absolutely bigger than anyplace I've ever been to. The chicken was cooked perfectly, the right amount of cheese and pasta. The sauce was sooo good! You could tell it's homemade and made with soo much detail, love, and care. Just an amazing experience on my tongues palette. As you can imagine we scarfed our meal down. We were just absolutely stuffed. But, I just had to try one of the homemade desserts. We chose to share the chocolate decadence cake with raspberry sauce and was just blown away. It was this thick gooey chocolate cake with not much of that normal cake in it you are use to buy a much better twist. It definitely lived up to its name and was very decadent. It wasn't overly sweet and was just absolutely chocolatey. The raspberry sauce which I normally don't like, but I liked this one. It added a hint of that good berry sweetness that doesn't remind you of that cough syrup you had as a kid. My final thoughts of this place is, I will definitely be back! I might go alone just so I don't have to share!! Lol, I'm an only child so sharing isn't something I'm very good at, especially food but I've learned to do it with people I love. But yes, the service was spot on, so very attentive, I loved the atmosphere, the food was phenomenal and it was just an amazing experience I hope everyone will come to enjoy!!

Soft shell crab with lemon saffron cream sauce.

Just need to give another shout to Hoa, it is soft shell crab season and his dish with the crabs served over angel hair pasta with asparagus and lemon saffron sauce is by far the best soft shell crab I have had any where. The crab is perfectly fried in a very light batter and covered in a very tasty lemon saffron sauce. I look forward to this every year at this time. Don't miss out, they are not around for long.

    Papardelle Carbonara
    Kelly H.

DELICIOUS! I went here for my graduation dinner with 4 other people and we could not stop raving about how tasty and huge the servings are! I personally got the papardelle carbonara and it was delicious. The eggy creamy sauce covered the fresh papardelle perfectly with the beauty pieces of bacon and peas. I would get this again. We recommend the sausage and peppers off their appetizers! All entrees came with a salad with creamy garlic sauce. I tend to not like salad dressing but this was so good. It was full of garlic and not too over powering. We started our meals with FOUR orders of garlic bread! It was that good. Super cheesy with TONS of garlic. The way it should be! It was BYOB so we brought our own bottles of wine in. Our server Sam was super knowledgeable about the menu and was super accommodating. The overall restaurant is small, but very warm and inviting. There is only one chef working and one server at a time - but yet we had our food quickly with great service. Please make sure you make a reservation before you go! We will be back!

    Seafood Fra Diavolo
    Jonathan V.

Place is quite small and reservations were required. I got a seafood fra diavlo which was quite filling but also a scratch sauce. Given the size there was only one person on wait staff which lead to slow service, if you're looking for a place to eat with two people this is great!

Saw there was a happy hour menu, so we tried the meatballs and pizza for apps and she got the Pinot Grigio and I tried the Cabernet. I could only get down barely half the glass of cab and when I called her over to send it back, she never asked if it was ok etc. or why I did t finish it. And I did ask her how the cab was before I ordered it and she said great! Clearly never tried wine before. I also saw that I was charged for the bad wine. No biggie, but in a better place they would have tried to make it right. I tried a Hendrick's and tonic next, and the tonic water was definitely flat. I tried to ask nicely if the tonic water was flat and she never even tried it, just saying oh no, it's fine. Very disappointed with that service and the drinks were terrible. As for the food, they might not have any spices in the kitchen as the meatballs could have had some seasoning added so they didn't taste so bland! Pizza was eh at best. Someone should teach them about salt and how a little bit brings out the real flavors! We won't go back...the wait staff seemed more interested in talking to each other than they did the customers. And the side of the bar nearest the door was cold as they kept one set of doors open, so always a cold blast coming in. No wonder so many restaurants are failing these days.

As soon as we sat down, they brought us bread immediately which was a nice touch. We started with the meatballs and they were so good full of flavor and cooked perfectly. For pizza, we ordered a margarita pizza and a cheese pizza, and the margarita was absolutely delicious. We split a Caesar salad salad, and my husband had the truffle bisque. For our main, the kids loved the homemade mac & cheese, and my husband ordered the pork chop... he cleaned his entire plate! I had the Chicken Parm Brooklyn with vodka sauce and cherry peppers and WOW it was amazing. So flavorful and the cherry peppers gave it the perfect kick. Not too spicy! I'm more of a buffalo spicy kind of a gal. We also shared the Brussels sprouts with aïoli and they were delicious too. Deff would re order. Portions were definitely big, which we loved we ended up taking food home. The makeover is stunning and Max A Mia's design team really deserves a lot of credit for putting together such a gorgeous design. The walled bar that used to be closed in is now open and very inviting, and the open dining room furniture and décor look modern and glitzy. Their dinner menu speaks with an Italian accent, so you'll see Minestrone, Arancini, Meatballs, Pasta, Parmigiana, Lasagne, and Pizzas among the fish, chicken, and steak choices. Arianna was our server, and she was a gem. With an engaging personality off the charts, she wowed us with her effortless knowledge of the menu, explaining every minute detail of the cocktail and meal specials we asked about. She started us off with a complimentary basket of assorted breads served with a baked head of garlic and a ramekin of tomato sugo. Three of us had cocktails, a Rio Lowball ($13) with cacacha, sauvignon blanc syrup, and lime quarters, a Paper Plane ($13) with bourbon, aperol, amaro, and lemon, and one of their non-alcohol choices -a Pink & Bubbly ($10). Max a Mia takes non-alcoholic drinks seriously, they were quite a few NA cocktails on the menu PLUS four NA wines ($10-$14/glass) for a Sparkling Reisling, a Riesling, a Sauvignon Blanc, and a Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot. I definitely wasn't in an NA mood, so the Paper Plane was my choice after a discussion with Arianna. She gave me great advice, because it was strong, smooth, and excellent. Our meal choices were from every corner of Max a Mia's menu - two Lobster Fra Diavlos (@ $36), a Brooklyn Chicken Parmigiana ($31), an Eggplant Lasagna ($27), and a Truffle Mushroom Pizza ($19). I was one of the Lobster Fra Diavlos, and I have to tell ya, it was one of the best meals I've had all year. It was one of the evening's specials, and Arianna described it in detail - a half pound of lobster meat, an in-depth explanation of Buccatini pasta, and reassurance that I was OK with a "spicy" sauce, which I enthusiastically am. The lobster was perfect, the pasta was great, and yes... that sauce sure was spicy. We ended the evening with a visit to the dessert menu with a Tiramisu ($9), a Bocci Ball ($9 with bonus points for presentation because it came out sliced), an Affogato, and a big dish of vanilla gelato ($7). I had the Affogato (Espresso, vanilla gelato, house made biscotti) and it was a perfect mix of flavors and textures. Our pre-Thanksgiving family meal was fantastic, and we enjoyed every detail of the food, service, atmosphere, and the manager's visit who came over to chat with us. Five stars for sure. Historical Note So, what became of the old Max A Mia space? Today it's occupied by Dogology pet supplies and New England Puppy Rescue.

This is my 3rd or 4th take out order from here, and I will say they recovered from a bumpy previous experience. Last time, they forgot to put pepperoni on one pizza (tho' it was ordered & paid for, as per receipt). Regretfully, I passed on my usual quick peak at the pies before leaving, so I had a slightly* disappointed crowd when I got home, *BUT, the Buffalo chicken pizza I also delivered got people over the missing pepperoni. The Bflo chicken pizza lacks any kick you'd probably expect, but is otherwise awesome, & it's easy to drizzle with hot sauce at home. Back to the missing pepperoni: I called, they apologized & quickly offered to re-do the pizza or for me to come back another time. Mistakes happen, and what's key is handling it right, which they did, hassle free which I appreciate.

The first time, I ordered the Grilled Chicken panini at $14.95 which had grilled chicken breast, pesto sauce, tomatoes, provolone & roasted peppers. Angus beef, chipotle mayo, onion rings, lettuce, tomatoes & Monterey Jack cheese. This was good but I requested the beef to be cooked at medium but it came out medium well, not a big deal but it would've been more tender at medium. You can order directly from their website. The ordering process was easy and food was hot and ready by the time requested. My husband loves their Philly cheese steak with peppers and onion. Will definitely order from them again.

Our server took our entrée order of the Chatham Bay fish fry and short ribs of beef bourguignon. The fish and chips was very very good on the fish. Two large pieces of cod that were perfectly deep-fried in a thin but crunchy coating that was excellent. The shoestring fries were a little less impressive in the sense that they looked a bit industrial without a lot of character, but were passable. This dish would've been an 8 out of 10 if the fries had a greater degree of character. This was accompanied by a remoulade, malt vinegar. The short ribs of beef were exceptionally good and would have made Julia Child proud.
