    "Small" Italian grinder
    Dan R.

"Enjoy every sandwich" (Warren Zevon) For how many reasons did I really enjoy my Italian Grinder in a "Half" size from the Sfizio Italian Kitchen? Let me count the ways. First of all was the value -that smaller size ran $9.99 in exchange for a huge sandwich. Half of it easily satisfied my lunch appetite for around $5, and hell- you'd be hard pressed to say the same after a trip to the Golden Arches. Second of all - the sandwich was freaking excellent! Super soft and fresh toasted Italian bread, a very generous piling on of ham and salami and provolone (thank God there was none of the super salty pepperoni that only does a good job of ruining these Italian subs), and a nice blanket of fresh shredded lettuce, tomato, onions, hot peppers, oil and vinegar. Third of all were the servers at the store. They were super nice and polite and friendly. Fourth of all was the store itself with bakery treats, showcase goodies and pizza slices to check out while your food is prepared. I love these neighborhood Italian delis, and Sfizio just jumped into the top tier of my list.

I visited Sfizio Italian Kitchen for lunch takeout this week. I ordered a 1/2 Italian Cold Cut Combo and a slice of pepperoni pizza by phone. It was ready when I arrived ten minutes later. The 1/2 Cold Cut Combo was huge. I ate 1/2 and saved 1/2 for the next day. It had high quality Italian deli meats that I believe were salami, mortadella, ham and capicola. The bread tasted like great Italian Bakery bread. It had firm outer texture with sesame seeds, and a softer inside. The topping choices were not as expansive as I like. I settled on provolone, lettuce, tomato, red roasted peppers, oil and vinegar. The oil and vinegar did not provide as much zing as I like. Otherwise, these toppings were good. The pizza was decent. The crust was a bit doughy and the large circumference pepperoni generated a bit too much grease for my taste. Four Stars for a workday lunch takeout option. They also have seating there. The atmosphere is fine, but not a draw.

Great unassuming little spot. Had a nice chicken cutlet panini and the sauce was great. Good Italian music.

The ambience inside hasn't changed, it's still very relaxed & delicious smelling inside. We sat down at a table & a glass of water was placed in front of us. They must use a great water filter because water lately tastes like bleach. This was great water! A few moments later a side of thin crust pizza was placed on the table as an appetizer instead of just bread, nice! We each ordered an entree. Rosie got eggplant parmigiana & it came with a side of fresh made pasta. I got the spinach fettuccine & yes, the Fettuccine was freshly made! When I went up to pay the chef showed me the special salmon he was going to add on the menu. Oh my gosh! I can't wait to try it! Yum!!

I figured as they got more established the food would get better but it does not. The worst experience was most recently when we ordered a standard calzone. Their calzone is not normal at all. It had thin slices of potato that looked and felt like the texture of a raw onion and low grade meat. There was barely any cheese and zero ricotta in this calzone. Not only that but I actually laughed when I saw it because the entire calzone was burnt - literally black. To my surprise after trying a bite the bottom was severely undercooked and doughy. Just so odd. FYI carbonara is supposed to be their staple but I was not a fan. Super bland and underwhelming but I'd definitely order that over the calzone any day!! I will not be returning.

Our waitress was absolutely amazing. She was kind, attentive, and whenever something was forgotten, she immediately went to speak with the kitchen and tried to make it right. That being said, our table definitely seemed to fall into a bit of a communication dead zone. My chicken parm was forgotten, and while waiting for it the rest of my family's food got cold. They ended up sending their pasta back to be reheated, which also took a while. Our drinks were forgotten at one point as well, and our to go dessert sat waiting for a long time before anyone brought it over. The food itself was great and we still enjoyed celebrating together, but overall the experience would have been much smoother with better communication between the kitchen and staff. The perfume machine in the bathroom is a fun touch

Drinks stayed filled, and the waiter came by to make sure we didn't want any refills on any alcoholic beverages as they were being consumed. He recommended a few appetizers for the table. We got to try the chef special, garlic bread with ricotta, and calamari. All very good. As was the bread and oil that I think comes with every meal. After I heard the specials, I went with the short rib gnocchi, but the salmon with spaghetti squash was a close second. I wasn't disappointed in my dish. It was a really good size and I ended up taking half of it back with me, something tells me it's gonna be even better the next day as most Italian food is. My one regret is that I didn't order the lemon cheesecake to go. All of the desserts sounded amazing, especially the hazelnut tart, however, the lemon cheesecake is super cute and I heard from other people that have been to this restaurant before that it is delicious. Maybe next time!

The often unique flavors are always loaded with mixins, offering incredible and satisfying textural contrast to the ultra smooth and creamy gelato itself. Recently I have tasted biscoff crumble, blueberry white chocolate, deconstructed blueberry crumble, and espresso mocha crunch. Each was delicious, but if I were to call out a specific highlight at this moment, I might say the blueberry white chocolate. I appreciated that the white chocolate was in the form of large shards mixed in and not simply a flavor added to the base. That often leads to a subtlety that renders it nearly, if not entirely, undetectable. Their lemon basil sorbetto was also delicious and extremely bright/refreshing. I like to order a waffle cone on top as well, which I love versus facing the rush of leaking all over your hand when acting as the vessel. Service is always friendly and they're happy to let you taste before ordering. Plenty of outdoor seating is available when the weather cooperates! Inside there isn't any place to eat, so just keep that in mind. This is a wonderful spot I would highly recommend.
