One of the best pizzas I've had in Hartford county! We came to try their new purple potato pizza, which no one else in CT is offering. Super unique and totally delicious! Nice little takeout only spot. Next time we're in the area we'll have to try their classic cheese, but we were really impressed by their thin, crispy crust on this specialty pizza!

E & D Pizza opened in 2014 and stands for the owner's sons' names, Enzo and Dario. It is located in a plaza in Avon, CT. It's a takeout only pizza place with some benches inside. I ordered pizza and a couple of grinders on a Friday afternoon. The place was full of friendly workers and had a restroom available. I ordered a small Carnivoro pizza for my family; it had spicy pepperoni, bacon, Italian sausage, and meatballs. The dough was chewy and the toppings were good. All in all, a delicious pizza with a ton of toppings. I also ordered a chicken cutlet grinder, it had breaded chicken cutlets, mayo, American cheese, tomato, and lettuce; I enjoyed that, only thing was, there was too much of lettuce, easy fix to remove it. My husband had the chicken Parm grinder and he said it was very good. Overall, a good spot for pizza and a variety of other foods to choose from.

Small pepperoni pizza

I tried to E & D pizza company for lunch today with a small pepperoni pizza. If I lived fairly close to this place, I would probably choose it once in a while for variety. Unfortunately, I live 10 miles from this place and I wouldn't drive that distance to get this pizza. This is good basic decent middle of the road pizza and a small pepperoni was $19 6.9

Half pep and cheese half eatten.

Very good pizza. Friendly employees. Tried half pepperoni and the pepperoni was nice and spicy, cheese was tasty not cheap modz that a lot of pizza places I have tried lately switched to. Accept cards and has parking. Price a bit more then I want to pay for Large pie but it was Good. Nice thin crispy crust. Sauce was tasty and smooth.

I ordered take out from here since it is either take or delivery only. Was sad you couldn't eat in. So when you walk in it is a big open room with benches that surround so people have a place to sit while they wait. Everything was nice and clean in there. For food I ordered the fried mozzarella and a small carnivoro. The fried mozzarella I have to say was nothing short of phenomenal. When I brought it home and and opened it up i was certainly delighted to see they also had freshly shaved some aged parmesan I believe on top. I was worried the Mozzarella would be soggy but boy I was just so delighted that it was crispy and stayed crispy to the last bite. You get 4 Triangles and the marinara sauce was great too, definitely homemade, fresh and flavorful. The small pizza i ordered was the Carnivoro, which is the meat lovers at other places and it was super delicious. They did not skimp on the toppings like other places and the pepperoni is the best around not many places I know of that use the thick cut pepperoni that turns into crispy cups when cooked. For a small its 14 inches in diameter, this is a medium elsewhere in the area, and the large is 18" in diameter which as well is larger than most larges in the area. I will be back again, I absolutely love it!

One of the worst margherita pizza's I've ever had.

One of the worst margherita pizzas I've ever had. The cheese is.....burnt? Regular cheese pizza - cheese tastes like it was separating. Wings were the far side of the moon from crispy. Nobody wants chewy wings.... Fail

When she wants "really good pizza", a friend of my wife who used to own a restaurant, travels from her home in Hartford to E&D Pizza Company in Avon. I find that compelling because she knows good food, and there are myriad good pizza options within that driving time. That and the great Yelp Rating jumped E&D towards the top of my CT Try List a few years ago. Recently, I planned to be in Avon around lunchtime for the first time in a long time. As I left my home in Newington, I called to order a large meatball and onion pizza for takeout. They boxed it as I arrived. After taking the obligatory Foodie Parking Lot Photos of the pizza, I ate two slices in my car before driving to my next stop, and I saved the rest for dinner. I can see why somebody would drive about 25 minutes for this pizza. The thin crust was ideal for me. It had some char and was crispy enough to hold even hot toppings well, but it was good-chewy in the way that I prefer. The sauce was simple, fresh tasting and delicious. I don't know why, but the mozzarella really stood out. It tasted slightly saltier, in a good way, than the cheese on many pizzas. The meatballs and onions were both tasty. The meatballs were broken up into small pieces and spread across the pizza, and the onions were thin sliced. I would have preferred somewhat larger pieces of meatball, but E&D's way certainly worked. E&D is presently takeout only. I'm not sure how things worked pre-Pandemic. If you live within 10 minutes of E&D, I can't imagine you have many better pizza options when E&D is not super busy. Great CT pizza doesn't always hold up well to traveling more than 15 minutes or so. I actually thought E&D's pizza held up great, and it was still terrific when we reheated it for dinner (my go to system for this size slice -- microwave 2 large slices at a time for 40 seconds and cook in a 375 degree oven for 9 minutes). Five Stars for E&D. Its reputation is well deserved.

Move over New Haven pizza. You've got some serious competition in northern CT. Camille's in Tolland, Oakland in South Windsor, a bunch in West Hartford and Glastonbury......AND E&D Pizza Company in Avon. I know all "best of" lists are subjective, but E&D was just voted "World Pizza Champion" last week at the International Pizza Expo in Las Vegas. First CT establishment to ever attain that honor. My first visit here was in May, 2019. They had consistently been awarded best pizza in a Hartford readers' poll. I gave them 5-stars for their Positano pie. I had it again tonight. OUTSTANDING! Who would have thought that pizza topped w black mission figs, goat cheese, red onion, and chili honey drizzle would be so delicious. This pizza snob was totally blown away. One thing - no indoor dining. Everything is takeout. But the phone was constantly ringing.... surprisingly for more dinners than pizza. A hidden gem that's no longer hidden.

Half cheese, half pepperoni. A necessary combo.
Jackie O.

I've been hearting about E&D for a while. Then I drove by the other day and finally said enough is enough and ordered it a few days later. Wow--this is honestly one of the best pizzas I've had in central CT and I've tried plenty of pizza around here. The crust is thin with a slight chewy texture (this sounds like a negative but if you know you know). The sauce and cheese ratio is perfection and the pizza doesn't have to compensate by dripping in oil. It's simply amazing just how it is. I cannot believe I didn't know I was missing this pizza in my life and now I won't be able to stay away.

Just walked in to pick up dinner and their sound system was playing "Happy" by the Stones.
Dan R.

We've been long time fans of E&D, but we are even more so tonight after discovering and consuming their terrific take out special. It's a Family Dinner only available on Tuesdays, and the choices vary with the week. Tonight, for just $28 we got a 1/2 pan of rigatoni marinara with 9 big meatballs, a 1/2 pan of salad with cheese, close to a pint of salad dressing, and a nice loaf of Italian Genzano bread. Where do I start? The salad was large, and we should be able to get 6 servings out of it. The mozzarella cheese garnish, olives, and marinated peppers were a nice touch. You don't see those on every salad, but I liked all of it, so I was happy. But if you don't like the marinated peppers, I just wanted you to be aware of them lurking underneath the lettuce. The rigatoni marinara was comfort food to the tenth power -absolutely perfect pasta with a thick fantastic sauce. And the meatballs!!! They were fabulous- nine biggies with a ton of flavor. And how about the bread? A round loaf of Genzano bread that was fresh as fresh could be. We expect to make 6 portions out of this feast, so you do the math. The value is tremendous, and the quality was way up there. See ya next Tuesday !

I started with a cocktail topped with a mini charcuterie board, which was a fun touch. We ordered the tuna tartare to start. The portion was generous and the tuna tasted very fresh, especially with the mashed avocado on top. For my entree, I had the frutti di mare. The flavors were great, but I wish the sauce were a bit thicker since it settled at the bottom and left the noodles a little bare. Service was excellent and we never felt rushed. My fiancé ordered the espresso martini with cold foam to finish. I am not usually a fan of espresso martinis, but this one was impressive. The cold foam and chocolate-covered espresso beans stood out. Looking forward to coming back in the summer to try the patio.

We started our dinner with the garlic Parmesan Tuscan wings - so crispy, so flavorful - and the truffle fries - crispy outside and pillow inside, just enough truffle flavor. For the main course, I got the Valentine special - sirloin and lobster. The most I can say about it is that it was filling. The sirloin was cooked well, but the meat was just tough. The lobster was also on the small side and stuck to the shell ( a good portion of the meat was missed because I wasn't allowed to eat like a savage). For $42, I could have made a better choice. My wife got the pork chops - now that was a good pick! The glaze was sweet, but not too sweet, and she even enjoyed the squash (which she rarely eats). For dessert, I got the tiramisu, which was again okay, nothing spectacular. My wife enjoyed the valentine dessert (a red velvet cake with cream cheese and covered in chocolate). The biggest flaw I saw is their seating arrangement - we felt very claustrophobic. For parties of two, they have a huge series of benches with a tiny table and chairs on the other side. We were initially seated between two couples (one of which was the end), and they moved their table so my tiny wife can squeeze in between to sit on the bench. I'm so glad they left soon after and we asked to take their seat. I regret some of my choices, and should have tempered my expectations, mistaking this place as a fancy restaurant. It was a decent experience, perhaps shaded by a busy Friday date night.

The salad was a tremendous mixture of sliced tomatoes, vegetables and cheeses with shaved sirloin that was cooked perfectly medium rare. This was an excellent dish. Another had the spaghetti carbonara, which had a beautiful flavor of smokey guanciale and creamy al dente pasta. Superb with lots of parmigiana reggiano. Lastly, we had the eggplant. You can see from the picture that this was a gigantic dish that could've easily fed three people! Our service was right on point and outstanding. Because my daughter indicated she had been into Greece recently, brought us over a slice of a fantastic three-layer cake with a chocolate ganache. If you have no other reason than to come to DaCapo, try the dessert. It's absolutely worth a trip. The portions are exuberant and we brought about half of our food home. Four of us ate for about $130 and I left a $30 tip. This was just excellent and we will be back.

The makeover is stunning and Max A Mia's design team really deserves a lot of credit for putting together such a gorgeous design. The walled bar that used to be closed in is now open and very inviting, and the open dining room furniture and décor look modern and glitzy. Their dinner menu speaks with an Italian accent, so you'll see Minestrone, Arancini, Meatballs, Pasta, Parmigiana, Lasagne, and Pizzas among the fish, chicken, and steak choices. Arianna was our server, and she was a gem. With an engaging personality off the charts, she wowed us with her effortless knowledge of the menu, explaining every minute detail of the cocktail and meal specials we asked about. She started us off with a complimentary basket of assorted breads served with a baked head of garlic and a ramekin of tomato sugo. Three of us had cocktails, a Rio Lowball ($13) with cacacha, sauvignon blanc syrup, and lime quarters, a Paper Plane ($13) with bourbon, aperol, amaro, and lemon, and one of their non-alcohol choices -a Pink & Bubbly ($10). Max a Mia takes non-alcoholic drinks seriously, they were quite a few NA cocktails on the menu PLUS four NA wines ($10-$14/glass) for a Sparkling Reisling, a Riesling, a Sauvignon Blanc, and a Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot. I definitely wasn't in an NA mood, so the Paper Plane was my choice after a discussion with Arianna. She gave me great advice, because it was strong, smooth, and excellent. Our meal choices were from every corner of Max a Mia's menu - two Lobster Fra Diavlos (@ $36), a Brooklyn Chicken Parmigiana ($31), an Eggplant Lasagna ($27), and a Truffle Mushroom Pizza ($19). I was one of the Lobster Fra Diavlos, and I have to tell ya, it was one of the best meals I've had all year. It was one of the evening's specials, and Arianna described it in detail - a half pound of lobster meat, an in-depth explanation of Buccatini pasta, and reassurance that I was OK with a "spicy" sauce, which I enthusiastically am. The lobster was perfect, the pasta was great, and yes... that sauce sure was spicy. We ended the evening with a visit to the dessert menu with a Tiramisu ($9), a Bocci Ball ($9 with bonus points for presentation because it came out sliced), an Affogato, and a big dish of vanilla gelato ($7). I had the Affogato (Espresso, vanilla gelato, house made biscotti) and it was a perfect mix of flavors and textures. Our pre-Thanksgiving family meal was fantastic, and we enjoyed every detail of the food, service, atmosphere, and the manager's visit who came over to chat with us. Five stars for sure. Historical Note So, what became of the old Max A Mia space? Today it's occupied by Dogology pet supplies and New England Puppy Rescue.
