She made the entire experience so memorable with her kindness, attentiveness, and positive attitude. We had a great first time at "At the Rooftop"! It's great to see the space used for a fun new restaurant after the longstanding Chinese place closed down so long ago. We came for brunch on a Saturday morning of Thanksgiving weekend with a group of 8 and expected it to be packed so we made a reservation just in case (but it wasn't necessary). We were seated quickly upstairs although service was a bit on the slower side to begin with (I think workers were still trickling in). All of us enjoyed our food! Two of us had the Belgian waffles (a few ingredients were not as described but still OK) and two of us had the Chicken & Waffles which were tasty! I had the artisan sourdough breakfast sandwich which was absolutely massive, hubs had a delicious brunch burger and Dad had the "Eggs in Purgatory" (similar to a shakshuka). Everything was delicious and clearly freshly made as we customized a few things. Coffee was hot and refilled plenty! Service- absolutely amazing, sat right away, server friendly, not overbearing, drinks filled as needed, The food- some good, some not so much- the menu had a little of everything and should probably focus on what they do better instead of trying to have Italian, Asian, pub food etc... How do you rate a place that does everything well? Well nearly everything. First off, it has some of the best designed space in the area. Comfy chairs and just a pleasant place to eat at. The outside space is also first rate. The servers themselves are also attentive. Helpful and responsive. The small issue we've had is that the food, particularly anything sushi related, just tends to take a while. They just appear understaffed there for the volume. But..the food is very good and reasonably priced. There's something for everyone. Lobster roll? Check. (The bun could be a little sturdier). Chicken and risotto? Delish. Ribs and fries, also quite good. And great cocktails. So a little bit that can be improved (but no deal breakers) but overall a great place to eat in the valley. read more

Came over with a party of six after a family outing of kayaking down the road. Service was exceptional and quick. We ordered the Mango Habanero Whiskey Margarita which was a smooth Ol Smokey, guava, citrus, Tajin rim. We also sipped on a Peach Bellini We shared the Buttermilk Chicken Tenders with buffalo and agave tamarind BBQ dipping sauce as well as some Smoked Chicken Wings with sweet chili lime. The wings were very crispy as well as the chicken tenders but juicy! We also shared the Roasted Pork Tacos topped with pineapple salsa and shredded red cabbage and also the Smoked Brisket Tacos which has Korean steak sauce, pickled onion, pickled jalapeño I will say the brisket taco was a little underwhelming for the price with one piece of brisket Everything was delectable and came out pretty quick. Tonight we went to dine at the Rooftop in Canton. I was immediately impressed with the exhibition of this place, from the plush seats to the huge chandelier, that's bedazzled in crystals. At the Rooftop, you may be seated inside, downstairs, upstairs or at the rooftop. It was still pleasant to sit outside when we arrived, but a light jacket would have been handy as it got later into the evening. As fun as it is to sit on the rooftop, the view, for the most part is not noteworthy at all. You mostly have the gray parking lot and the post office. To the left you will get a very New England fall image of some beautiful colorful trees. For my drink I got the Apple Cider Margarita. It arrived in a tall glass with sugar and cinnamon around the rim. While this was a tasty drink, it was very difficult to enjoy. At any given time there were 3 - 5 bees I had to fight to even have a single sip of my margarita. Their menu is diverse, they have sushi, bowls, steak, fish, etc... We first got a dozen of fresh oysters. These tasted pretty zesty and fresh, despite us being nowhere by the water. I got the rice bowl with Roasted Portobello Mushrooms. This rice was yellow and fluffy, with sriracha sauce, chopped, roasted Portobello mushroom and seaweed salad on top. What a delightful mix of ingredients. This was very filling and flavorful. The calamari were also very flavorful, tender and colorful. We concluded with the Dark Chocolate Mousse. This was super creamy and tasty. It tasted much more like milk chocolate than dark chocolate. I wasnt sure what to expect - At the Rooftop is in the back of an old McDonald's plaza where they now serve grilled cheese. They're across from a post office, and next to an abandoned grocery store. Parking is for days, and they have pretty flowers growing outside. Seating is also for days, and there is an elegant staircase with a gorgeous chandelier you can take upstairs. Or, there's a cool hidden elevator in the back. There's at least a batr per floor, and what seems to be kind of a self serve been pour on the first. The actual rooftop has lots of seating, although it needs more light from the outside world. I was seated near the outside door, and there is a burst of air everything someone went in or out. It must be amazing on hot days although may not be the table id put someone in more temperate weather. Luckily I'm the type of person who can calmly sit through repeated bursts of air and things flying. The food was great! The spinach artichoke dip was hot with a great layer of cheese on top, and the chicken dinner with potato, brussel sprout, and honey made perfect bits. Canton's gone metro! There's always been a charming small town feel about Canton, but this spot is a welcome and delightful addition. I'm all about the customer service, and our server was friendly, efficient and earnest, checking in frequently and responding promptly. We sat on the outdoor deck, which also used heaters taking the evening chill out of it. Comfortable and elegant. Sure, it just looks over the parking lot, but it somehow felt very luxurious! The menu was outstanding; while fully half of it was creative sushi plates, there is plenty for the traditional American diner to enjoy (burgers, wraps, salads and good ole meat and potato's.) Gotta say tho, you will do yourself a disservice if you don't order from their fabulous specialty sushi choices. OMG my cousins wife's order came with an angel ICE SCULPTURE that I ridiculously wanted to wrap and take home to the freezer; (for what? I don't know). My roll was absolutely delicious and a very generous portion. The owner both greeted us and met us at the door on the way out to wish us a good night. I recently visited At The Rooftop on a Saturday to celebrate my birthday and a friend's, and it was such a treat! This time, the restaurant was beautifully decorated for Christmas , which added to the festive vibe. The space is so large, with multiple rooms, that it never feels crowded--even without reservations (though we made them just in case). The menu has an incredible variety to choose from--sushi, tacos, rice bowls, kebabs, sandwiches, and main plates. Everything sounded so good that it was hard to decide! We kicked things off with an appetizer recommended by our friend that was with us: their spinach dip. If you're a fan, you have to try it--adding pulled buffalo chicken takes it to the next level (for an extra charge). The sushi was excellent--so fresh, with generous portions that were both filling and satisfying. My friends enjoyed their meals as well, and we couldn't resist ending the night with dessert. Our waiter was fantastic, and I appreciated how the menu clearly labels gluten-free items, with some dishes also available as GF upon request. I'd love to come back and try their brunch! I read no reviews before our first visit two days ago, a Monday. I purposely avoided any preconceived notions. As a frequenter of this restaurant group's other businesses, I looked forward to more of the same. The front door is very handsome, while the decor choices within are a bit confusing. Some aspects are quite attractive such as all the wood surfaces, but then you have weird choices like scrunchie type coverings on the wiring to the crystal chandeliers and the square clunky lamps over the bar. Both style lighting fixtures are near one another and don't contrast very well. It's like ballroom meets the Flintstones. It's quite a big facility btw. We were greeted warmly and offered a table in the upstairs bar area which was described as being quieter at that particular time. We accepted gladly. Our server, also the bartender, was pleasant and helpful. No complaints on service. The star of the show was the crispy brussel sprouts appetizer. It is the best preparation of the dish we've ever tasted and included grilled radicchio, toasted hazelnuts, golden raisins, shredded carrots and yuzu honey. Just wow. My mate's Rooftop Roll, a specialty roll, was pronounced "very, very good" and he is a sushi enthusiast. Unfortunately my grilled chicken and Brie sandwich was disappointing. The texture of the chicken was strange the taste was bland. The corn slaw side was pretty blah. Dessert was fine. Chocolate mousse and crème brûlée are old chestnuts that need to be exceptional if offered. I have to wonder why so much money was spent on a rooftop themed restaurant overlooking the less than bucolic parking lot of Canton Village. A lovely view is not part of the experience At The Rooftop. If I had the ear of the owner, I'd suggest editing the menu. Offer fewer options but make them as spectacular as the brussels. One can't be all things to all people. Prioritize outstanding food and service and they will not only come, they will come back, As for us, we'll probably be at La Figata or The Barn unless we succumb to the siren song of the brussel sprouts. read more

Tried at the Rooftop for my birthday! The restaurant looked very fun online as I saw water shots. The restaurant is huge and has plenty of seating in various areas: bar, dining rooms on two different floors and outside seating. Well, our server told us she was new. She was quite good! We started with a Mexican street corn I felt like it just really lacked flavor. It was accompanied by homemade tortilla chips, which were just OK. We had the spinach and artichoke dip and had the crab Rangoon. Add on the dip was actually the best part of what we ate it was cheesy and very well flavored. However, we didn't taste the crab. Not sure if it was there. We shared a California roll, which was fresh and good. For dessert we had the apple crumble. I took a bite and burnt my tongue on the apple so I warned my son. He told me his first bite of the apple was ice cold. The dessert was still good overall I just wasn't wowed. read more

Since this place has been open for about 3 months now, my family and I decided to check it out. I prefer to go when new places are settled down and already worked out most of their kinks; this way I can give them a fair review. The type of food they have is New American with a global twist; they had a vast American fusion food menu, from tacos, burgers, sushi, poke bowl, you name it, they might have it. It's part of the Zen Restaurant Group, which is a group of 5 restaurants in Connecticut. The executive chef is Dan Fortin and they have an omakase sushi bar; there is also a self serve beer and wine area, inside. The parking lot was plentiful in the Canton village plaza. We had a late lunch on Saturday, and we were able to get a seat right away on the rooftop. The restaurant was huge and nicely designed; the rooftop was open and airy. The inside area had chandeliers and it just looked modern and classy. Even the restrooms were super nice, clean, and private. The host and our server were prompt and cordial. We had our two little wild-lings, but it was an enjoyable experience (parents, you feel me?). They had a high chair which was a plus. I wasn't overly hungry, so I ordered a sushi roll and a cocktail. I read reviews and sushi seems to make everyone happy there. The sushi roll I had was called Dynamite ($19); it had fried fish, kani crabmeat, avocado, cream cheese topped w/ spicy tuna, caviar, green scallion, eel sauce and spicy mayo sauce; this was so good, the flavors bursted in my mouth and the sushi roll alone was 5 stars. The cocktail I had was called the Sun Toucher ($12) which had rum, orange curacao, lime juice, orgeat syrup, and dark rum float; flavors were perfect and it was topped with maraschino cherry and a piece of pineapple. The food is good here, as with all of these related restaurants. We decided to each order selections of the Prix Fix menu which was fun. We had arugula salad, scallops and shrimp and pulled pork egg rolls to start. For the main we had a stuffed chicken, burger and short rib risotto. I was a bit disappointed with the main course. I ordered the short rib risotto and there was not much rib, one could say it was short rib! The prix fix had dessert included and the flourless chocolate cake was a winner. Service was A+. Thank you Blake. You contributed to a wonderful night. My rating here is good. The place is nice. New. But pricey. I think that this is more of a lounge than a destination to eat a dinner in my book. Chen has done it again and added a gorgeous restaurant to his portfolio that is destined to be his flagship eatery. Welcome to @ The Rooftop in Canton. It replaces the old Mikado Restaurant, which in turn replaced the very old Rice Fields Restaurant. The refurbishing job you'll see @The Rooftop is nothing short of amazing. The old one-story structure now has two stories. The interior is glitzy, cool, and quite spiffy! The second floor is split into an indoor dining room and a full-length outdoor patio. We took advantage of the warm temperature and had dinner upstairs on the outdoor patio. We started off with two of their Signature Cocktails -a $12 Sun Catcher with Planteray 3 Star Rum, Orange Curacao, lime juice, and almond flavored syrup with a splash of dark rum floating on the top. I gotta tell ya, it was maybe the strongest drink I ever had, except for the 151 Rum and Cokes I had back in my college days. Let me just say that the Sun Catcher sure gets the job done. My wife went for an $11 Club Midori with Tito's Vodka, orange, pineapple and lemon juice, and of course, Midori. It was served with what looked like a pineapple frond sticking up out of the glass. Now it was time to check out the Rooftop's food choices, and we immediately noticed there were a lot of styles on the menu - rice bowls, salads, steaks & chops, kebabs, empanadas, tacos, sandwiches, wraps, full entrees, Poke, and sushi. We started off by splitting an $8 Crispy Avocado Salad with house greens, avocado, mango dressing and sesame seeds. It was excellent and the avocado slices were ripe, creamy, and pretty much perfect. My wife went for the Asian Chicken Wrap ($16) with buttermilk chicken, orange hoisin sauce, crispy shallots, shredded lettuce and carrots. She chose shoestring fries as her side dish, but the available choices also included Hand-cut Fries, Side Salad, Kimchi Seasoned Slaw, Sweet Potato Fries (+$1) or Truffle Fries (+$1). I went into their sushi menu and chose one of their House Special Rolls irresistible named Spicy Girl ($20) with Spicy tuna, spicy salmon, jalapeño wrapped in soy paper topped with spicy yellowtail, wasabi, peas, chili flakes and wasabi honey dressing. It was incredible! Ten plump pieces bursting with different colors and texture and tastes. It was excellent. Our anniversary dinner ran just $72 after tax and tip. Shout out to our server Laura, who was welcoming, helpful and very pleasant. She didn't rush us and let us enjoy a leisurely dinner. @ The Rooftop is still in its soft opening phase, but it already looks like a smash hit. There is rooftop seating, several spacious dining areas, three bars throughout the restaurant, a self serve beer/wine and cider selection, and they even offer an event space. The menu also has many options ranging from sushi and poke bowls to tacos, sandwiches, steaks, rice bowls and chicken dishes. A great cocktail selection too. For appetizers, I started with their calamari and artichoke spinach dip. There was no noticeable hiccups during the grand opening, everything seemed to be running smoothly. The spinach & artichoke dip was excellent. However the pita wedges that accompanied the dip were somewhat stale. The crispy Asian chicken wrap was excellent. Packed with flavor & was accompanied with a side salad. Yelper Bobby D. Wrote a half month ago how the kitchen/front office needs to pick up the pace. Let's start this review as if it's a part two to his review. We arrived at the restaurant at 12:45pm and came in without a reservation. The two hostesses at the front chatted with each other in low voices while we stood on the other side of the desk for five minutes without greeting us. At first I thought that they mistook us for another party that was already waiting, but this was not the case. After watching them for this time, they ended their conversation and said, "Sorry about that. Had a little meeting of the minds." Then proceeded to tell us we'd have to wait for ten minutes for a table. Fifteen minutes later we were led to our table, and sat. In five minutes we were ready to order. Our server was quite nice but unfamiliar with the menu, so we did a lot of back and forth to get everything right. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. Our starters and appetizers came out about 45 minutes after we first sat down. They went quickly and we awaited our main entrees. And waited. And waited. The raw sushi/rolls arrived first, about twenty minutes later. Half our party ordered raw items, the other half proceeded to wait another fifteen minutes until we asked the waiter where the food was. The burger had been sitting in the kitchen, unretrieved. My wife's salmon was... missing. There was apparently a kitchen issue and her order never went in. They rushed to get her dish prepared and ten minutes later she started eating, but felt the cut was bordering on raw, inside. The manager apologized and comped the meal but, as I write this, it's 2:30pm and we first came in at 12:45. Yelper Bobby indicated that they had to step up their game, but it shows that in the two weeks since that review, they did not have an all hands on deck meeting to really sort out their issues. Food was ok. Nothing remarkable. Certainly not worth the wait, unless maybe you have a date where you want to get lost in each other's eyes and... not eat. read more

This place is a culmination of so much. There's 3 bars, Self Pour Tap Room, lots of different indoor outdoor dining areas. Great for groups and hosting events. The decor is top notch and you can tell no expense was spared in the making of this fine restaurant. Currently in their soft opening phase they are doing really great! The food has been nothing short of amazing. There's a lot of staff and they are so kind, friendly, and provide a great service. Their drinks are unique and not overly sweet which I really like. Great wine and beer selection. The Self pour area has a couple wines and many IPA selections. My main entree this evening was the Zen burger. It was phenomenal to say the least. An unbelievable creation that just hits every flavor spot of comfort you could think of. The burger was cooked perfect and thick slabs of pork belly just really made this burger soar. I didn't even need to use ketchup or mayo on the burger like I do with any burger I usually get. The sauces they used and the seaweed salad really paired well with each other and the burger as whole just bursted with that umami flavor. Please, if you haven't been, or tried their food yet you should put them on your list for a must go to restaurant. You won't regret it. I will definitely be back. Had to choose one star but honestly it is a minus 1. Absolutely the worst meal ever. The coleslaw had potential but was bland, the french fries were soggy ( Iv'e had better fries from a frozen supermarket bag) , more like noodles and the smoked brisket had a small coating of onions with a poor excuse for BBQ sauce. My wife had the cider brined airline chicken, she stated that if she were blindfolded she would have trouble saying the fingerlings were even potatoes. The chicken seemed steamed, without flavor, had a weird aftertaste and smelled like plastic. Poor airline food is a good analogy. For a $65 lunch we were extremely disappointed. read more

We have been to Rooftop in Canton many times, and the food is consistently good. Just got home from dinner there this evening, and the experience was less than pleasant. We were seated in the first floor dining room, as a twosum next to a table of 4/5 adults and two children. We have three kids and I get it, children will be children. But when I go to a restaurant and drop $150 for dinner I don't want an experience akin to Chucky Cheese or McDonald's: Coughing, gagging, yelling, and beating on plates and glassware with chopsticks like they were rock band drummers. And all of the ruckus was encouraged by the adults, and the balance of the people in the room were obviously disturbed and distracted from their meals. It simply isn't possible that the ruckus wasn't heard or observed by at least a half dozen employees....and nothing was done. Again, I have kids, now grown, but a restaurant must be cognizant of regulating the ambience when children are around---create a separate space, or have a manager do a flyby once an hour???? Is that asking too much? Very disappointing. I was shocked actually. And tbh...this is the FIRST time I've written a restaurant review in 25 years, that's how over the top and disturbing this group was. Rooftop: Please create some conduct guardrails for diners with children who either are sick, or need closer supervision. Tonight was not acceptable. read more

I had been here twice before and one of those two times, I had great sushi. Despite my 2nd experience, I still wanted to try them again - I had a shred of hope. The 1st visit with a colleague was good. The 2nd visit with my wife - was horrendous. So we did takeout. Sushi- the rolls I had that impressed me. Got our rolls. Spicy Girl and something else. The rolls were completely different than what I had before. The flavors and quality weren't there. The other roll, was overly fishy tasting- which is the telltale mark of non-fresh seafood. My friend and I visited At the Rooftop on a Friday night during their soft opening phase. We were fortunate to snag a table on the rooftop, as the word was definitely out about this place! The restaurant is definitely impressive being two floors with multiple bars, dining spaces, and even a self-serve tap area for beer and wine. Such a great addition to the area! My friend and I were very patient and understanding as the staff is still learning. However, it was a longer meal, and it did take about an hour for us to receive our cheese and charcuterie appetizer. The rest of the food came shortly after that, and we did enjoy everything we had that night. Our server, Skylar, was doing a great job under the circumstances and made sure to check in with us often. I'm confident that the restaurant will continue to improve as they approach their grand opening. I'm still so impressed with the design of this restaurant, and it has a lot of potential to be the most popular spot in Canton! read more

We held a celebration of life luncheon here and it was absolutely phenomenal. From the food to the room itself to the staff - it was perfect. The owner/manager catered to our needs and treated us with compassion. We were slightly over on the count and they didn't charge us the extra. For food we had the short rib, penne, Caesar salad, roasted vegetables and potatoes. All very good. Highly recommend. read more

Went for an early Sunday dinner and sat on the rooftop. Overall great atmosphere, especially with the live music- he was great. Our server was very attentive but was not very knowledgeable on the menu... i ordered the chicken Asian wrap and sweet potato fries - I had asked for an aioli to dip my sweet potato fries in and when they came out they were topped with what looked and smelled like Parmesan cheese and truffle oil - when I asked our server what was on top of the fries she said "rice, definitely rice" ....... Which was definitely inaccurate... why would anyone put rice on top of fries??? I tried it, and like I thought it was Parmesan and truffle... which is not what I asked for.. and the wrap was veryyyyy underwhelming- it was chicken tenders with lettuce and carrots and the hoisin sauce was on the side? If I could give 25 stars - I would! Described as New American cuisine with a global twist it is such a great restaurant to have in Canton. Dining at this restaurant overall was a culinary delight from start to finish. While it's not officially opened yet ( soft openings) I've been lucky enough to dine here twice . From the decore to the staff to the food everything is top quality. We can't believe that Canton was blessed with this restaurant that's sure to become a destination place for the valley. The interior is absolutely stunning- James the owner did such a amazing job designing each room . I love the solid black walnut tables . The sushi room is very intimate . The upstairs bar is great . The rooftop dining area was such a delight to sit out there and enjoy the star filled evening sky. James the owner is one of the nicest people you will ever meet . His manager Corey and the wait staff are attentive and very professional- they truly make you feel welcome & comfortable . Dining here had a very European feel to it- we were never rushed thru our courses and spent hours visiting with our friends. We were there last night with 8 people . Every one ordered drinks, platters of appetizers for the table and then our dinners. The selection of beers on tap ( they have the coolest self pour tap room too if you want ) was great, drinks and wine 10 stars. Beers were fully poured and drinks were excellent. The mixed drinks were very well made :) Their wine room and list is top quality. Appetizers- the wings were the best any of us had ever had. The group we were out with are real food lovers so for all of us to be thrilled with our choices. Al allot. The calamari was the best I've ever had , the sauce on it was amazing. Sushi was healthy portions and fresh and again, delicious. Then on to our dinners. Again, we all tried something different. The poke bowls were outstanding. Spring rolls - the best. My roof top sushi roll was huge and while presented very beautifully- its taste and freshness was over the top delicious. Zen burger -made with pork belly and burger was just a delicious combination of top quality burger and pork belly- charcoal grilled. That was so freaking eyes rolling into your head delicious! The pan seared sea scallops were served with a sweet potato purée that we all tasted and raved over . The scallops were cooked to perfection. Pulled pork and smoked brisket made in their own smoke room were over the top with flavor. When they were building the rooftop- we all laughed saying on yes- the roof top that looks out on a parking lot- but when you're up there which by the way has great heaters and umbrellas- you see the sky , the hill side to the left and it's actually very nice. We sat there and throughly enjoyed ourselves. I'll end with you need to get here . The food & drinks were a culinary delight and Rooftop is sure to become the must visit destination for any food lover. read more
