Happy hours are always best at the bar! Oh wait, it can ever only be at the bar! Max Fish is no exception to this rule. When their bar is full, they have the oyster bar too. It's actually enjoyable sitting there watching the food be prepared right in front of your eyes. It elevates the experience in all the right ways. It also helps to glance at what everyone else is eating and thinking. "Oh I can have that too." I ordered buffalo shrimp which was most recommended, scallop à la Plancha that was very appetizing and old bay fries and paired it with Sauvignon Blanc. Great company + delicious food + unique experience = can't go wrong with this mix! I wish I had more time to spend there. Can't wait to visit again!

I love Max Fish for high end seafood. The weather is terrible tonight (for a TX girl not used to driving on icy roads) so I called in an order to go. I really wanted some fresh seafood so I ordered from the raw bar. The presentation was still thoughtful, packed with ice and stayed nice and cold. The selection was wonderful (with the old bay crab being my fav). Highly recommend for dine in or takeout

Went especially for the Max Amorē menu available this month here at Max Fish. That was one of my favorite places to eat when it was open. Table for one, great service as usual. A nice tablecloth restaurant for lunch on a blustery day, what a relief. Started with an Atlantic non-alcoholic beer and the Roasted Garlic cluster with Focaccia came to the table as I breathed a sigh of relief. Prix Fixe menu with three courses: a De La Casa salad so delicious with its bleu cheese then onto the Bombolini Pasta in a tomato cream sauce, peas with hot/sweet sausage ended the meal with a Limoncello Panna Cotta adorned with a wild blue berry sauce. What a day and what memories!

Welcome to Max Fish! The restaurant is located at 110 Glastonbury Blvd., Glastonbury, CT 06033. This is perhaps the best happy hour in the state. The choices of food items and drinks just can't be beat and it's 3:30 PM - 6 PM every day! What's better than that?' It's packed in here! I had to park much farther away than normal and I took the last seat at the bar at the very end. To start out it, I'm having a bottle of S. Pellegrino sparking water. Pellegrino water is special due to its long filtration process through the Italian Alps, which naturally enriches it with minerals, giving it a distinctive taste with gentle bubbles and a slightly bitter note. It is highly regarded in fine dining, where it is served to complement food and wine, often served at a specific temperature and in a particular glass to preserve its delicate qualities. For my first drink, I'm having a Max Manhattan made with Old Overholt Rye, Cinzano sweet vermouth, orange bitters and an orange twist garnish. This is perfect! It's well balanced, garnished and presented. For my first food item, I'm having the Caesar Salad made with romaine lettuce, garlic croutons and Parmesan cheese. This is a cute, little salad with great taste! It's nicely tossed, lettuce is crisp and clean, dressing is good and has crunchy croutons. For my second food item, I'm having a Cup of Clam Chowder. I'm guessing this is the New England version. Clam chowder is a hearty soup made with clams, potatoes, and onions, with regional variations like creamy New England (milk/cream), tomato-based Manhattan, and clear Rhode Island styles. They ask you if you want to add salt, pepper or hot sauce. Hot sauce all the way! This came out fast (a minute?)! I love the homemade croutons! They are very crunchy! This is good let me tell you! For my third food item, I'm having the Buck A Littleneck (3) and the Buck A Cherrystone (3). These are raw clams. A littleneck clam is a type of mollusk known for its hard, oval shell with radiating lines and concentric rings. A cherrystone is a medium-sized hard-shell clam, specifically a size of the quahog clam that is larger than a littleneck but smaller than a chowder clam. Don't forget to sprinkle the lemon juice on! Add a little Tabasco and yummy! For my second drink, I'm having the Old Fashioned made with Old Forester bourbon, simple syrup and Angostura bitters. Nice presentation! This is perfect! It's well balanced, garnished and presented! For my fourth food item, I'm having the Oyster of the Day (3). These are good! O like the vinegar sauce too! The cocktail sauce and hot sauce make it really amazing! For my fifth food item, I'm having a Salmon Lettuce cup. Lettuce cups are a popular, healthy dish where lettuce leaves are used as a low-carb alternative to bread or tortillas to hold various fillings, most commonly Asian-inspired ground meat and vegetable mixtures. For my sixth food item, I'm having the Spanish Stuffed Clams (2) made with chorizo (a coarsely textured, spiced pork sausage), roasted peppers and panko (a light, flaky Japanese breadcrumb known for creating an exceptionally crisp coating on fried or baked foods). These are bacony, buttery and briny stuffed clams. For my third drink, I'm having the Gin Gimlet made with Greylock Gin, simple syrup and lime juice. This is a London Dry style gin w/ aromas of licorice, citrus peel, juniper & coriander. On finish, it shows pepper, cinnamon, with a hint of green herbaceousness. Oh yeah! This is good! It's well balanced, garnished and presented! For my seventh item, I'm having the "Baltimore Style" Shrimp Cocktail made with Old Bay seasoning and stone grounds mustard. OMG! This is good! Add some hot sauce and this is the bomb! For my fourth drink I'm having the Cinnamon Daiquiri made with Planteray 3 Star, cinnamon and lime. This is good! It's well balanced, garnished and presented! For my entree, I'm having the Grilled Hidden Fjord Salmon made with golden quinoa, golden raisins, roasted cauliflower, butternut squash, Brussels sprouts, watercress and brown butter pomegranate vinaigrette. For my side, I'm having the Garlic Hericot Verts. OMG! This is so good! Nothing left to take home! For dessert, I'm having the Apple Pave made with vanilla ice cream and dolce de leche anglaise. Look at this masterpiece! This is huge! This is delicious!!! For my fifth (and final) drink. I'm having the Down With The Richness made with Whistle Pig "Piggyback" bourbon, cocoa-infused Averna, coffee-infused Aperol and espresso. Oh yeah! This is good! I like the large, square ice cube! This drink is fantastic! This is a record! I've been here for 5 1/2 hours! What a great meal here!

I've been here twice and both visits were excellent. The first time I visited was with a friend while we were staying at a hotel across the street. I enjoyed my first visit so much I decided to stop here again when I was driving back to MA from NJ. This place has done what I previously thought was impossible: got me to enjoy oysters. Any restaurant that can tell you where the oysters came from and give a flavor description for each has high quality oysters. When I first visited for lunch, my friend and I both ordered the poke bowl with salmon and a cup of clam chowder. Last time I ordered the clam chowder again and grilled fish tacos plus an additional fried shrimp taco for $5 since I happened to be there during happy hour. The tacos were flavorful and large enough for me to have leftovers to take home. The servers are friendly and the ambiance is comfortable. I will be back next time I'm in the area or driving through!

I have been to max fish a few times now ! And I'm happy to say I always have a great time . The staff is lovely , and the food is amazing , the restaurant is very cold ( at least where I was sitting ) other than that great spot for food ! I started with the shrimp cocktail for my appetizer! Which was served cold over a bowl of ice cream! The shrimp were seasoned to perfection which i loved ! Even the mustard dipping sauce was really good ( and I hate mustard !) I also got the summer salad which was served with fresh ingredients , nice peach balsamic dressing which was really good . Dressing was nice and light perfect for the salad, but did not really taste the peachy flavour . For my entree got the grilled salmon with grilled veggies , couscous and a zucchini paste ! The salmon was cooked perfectly and delicious , the veggies were good ( however very minimal veggies on my plate.. others had a decent amount ). couscous was good as well ! I really enjoyed the zucchini paste it brought everything together perfectly ! Highly recommend if you need a healthy meal or you love salmon Finally for dessert was the blueberry crème brûlée which was very goood ! Highly recommend!

The food was great, and my kids really enjoyed their salmon and fish and chips--big, tasty portions! They also loved their kids' menu, which came with a fun coloring activity on the other side. Our server, Lisa, was incredible--cheerful, attentive, and made our meal extra special. The service was awesome, and the food came out promptly. The ambiance was nicely dimmed, a perfect mix of cozy light. We also tried the lobster rolls and savored every bite!

This is one of my favorite restaurants that I frequent often. Food is always good, ambiance is great and service is great. Today, our server, Mr. Christian N. Was nothing short of amazing. His attentiveness to detail, checking on us at all the right moments and keeping our drinks full was greatly appreciated. The only reason I'm not giving a perfect 5 stars is my son's burger was overcooked and he asked for it medium; this was no fault of Christian's because he showed me the order he placed. This review is to show gratitude to Christian and the establishment for always being great. Cheers!

Great restaurant if you love sea food that offers indoor and outdoor seating. Service was oustanding, dining areas were very clean, and the decor of the resturant was beautiful. Everything on the menu looked great but I got the Buffalo shrimp as an appetizer and a lobster roll for my entree which was delicious. Definitely recommend checking this place out for brunch, lunch, or dinner.

Went to this restaurant to just get the Clam Chowder soup but we received such a warm welcome that we had a few more items. We had shellfish from raw bar which looked very inviting. We had Little Neck and Cherrystone Clams, Oysters. We also had a Salmon Poke which was one of the best I tasted. The service by Lauren was both professional and friendly.

First of all, the happy hour is fantastic. If you haven't been, you must go! I dont want to state days/times in case it changes at some point. We got oysters and cherrystone clams from the raw bar. I have to say the cherrystones might have been the biggest I have ever had, very enjoyable. The black bass special was extremely flavorful and should be on the main menu if it wasn't for the seasonality. Our waitress was ready to rock and was helpful along the way. My brother's flavored martini was great and then the next two were made different, so had three different drinks under the same title. The bar area is so open, but noise level was perfect for continuing a conversation. I look forward to coming back again.

We've had to repeatedly flag her down while sitting with empty plates and glasses. No check-ins, no acknowledgment. When she does come over, her attitude makes it feel like guests are an inconvenience. I'm a bartender myself, so I understand busy shifts. But basic hospitality like eye contact, clearing empties, professionalism -- isn't optional. My drink was poorly made and unbalanced, which only added to the frustration. What really crossed the line was hearing staff behind the bar openly speaking negatively about customers -- including people currently seated. That's not just bad service, it's unprofessional. It's unfortunate to see a place I enjoyed decline like this. I hope management steps in.

*This review is from June 2023, I forgot to post it, accuracy was preserved with Word…read more Came for brunch. Menus were confusing, printed on paper in landscape format. Choices were limited to 'small and large plates', there was no appetizer section. We were asked "sparkling bottled ($$) or tap water?". We chose tap. Server brought an old-style quart-size milk bottle and small juice-size glasses. The water had no ice, so I assumed water was cold, it wasn't. I ordered a 'breakfast' stout, my wife coffee. Stout was served in a wine glass, not a traditional pint glass. Wife said coffee wasn't that hot. When they brought our beverages, wife asked for a napkin since none were on the table. Like most civilized countries, I like to put a napkin in my lap when I sit down in a restaurant. Apparently you need to ask for one here. Young server muttered something about place settings are brought when food is delivered. I guess an ale and coffee aren't napkin worthy. Not sure what they accomplish with this goofy policy. It looks more like some kind of cost cutting measure. We made reservations a week earlier, wanted us to confirm a second time through text the same morning. It led me to think this must be a popular place with people clamouring to get in. Once there, place wasn't bust at all, no waiting customers and a sea of unoccupied tables. Our guest arrived after we ordered our beverages. After a few minutes, I ended up flagging down a server to get her a drink. Another sign we were stuck with a 2nd or 3rd-string staff. Our aunt ordered a specialty drink from their menu; "champagne in a laundry basket", (looked more like laundry water in a wash tub). After taking our orders, paper menus were collected to be reused. Maybe they were saving money on copy paper. I kinda' wish she left one in case we wanted desserts or something later. They were keeping the table clear of literally everything. I ordered a humus plate for use as an appetizer, something to share and couldn't be screwed up while waiting for our main course. When entrees showed up, we all chose 'smoked sausage eggs-benedict', extra servers were in tow with plates, napkins and silverware, napkin place settings given after all plates were on the table. My wife was seated across from me, sitting next to her Aunt Nan. The first plate was placed in front of me. Even being the neanderthal caveman I am, I knew this was the most basic etiquette faux pas (I felt humiliated j/k). Ladies are ALWAYS served first, another red flag from an inexperienced staff. The 'smoked sausage' Eggs Benedict failed on many levels. It wasn't hot, poached eggs were both over and under-cooked- egg whites had chunky white snot, yolks were not runny. The 'smoked sausage', was kielbasa logs cut in half lengthwise, they were overcooked and impossible to cut without flattening and mutilating egg and muffin. They could be used as wheel chocks, I had to deconstruct it so sausage could be wrestled with on the side. Wife said the 'homemade' English muffin had the tap water taste like what we were served 'for free'. I couldn't help but envision a garden hose filling a mop bucket used for filling the milk bottles. The Hollandaise sauce lacked silky richness and flavor, I've had better with McCormick packets. Benedict was overpowered with the taste of the smoked sausage. This meal was our aunt's special treat for our birthdays. They did not finish their meals, leaving mostly the pieces of the hockey puck-hard sausage. Server had been touting the pastry chef for the home-made English muffins. They were not any better than Thomas's English muffins. I am a plate-cleaner by habit, I've even been called human garbage disposal, so I managed to clear this one, (except for the egg snot, it would've taken a straw to finish it). My wife always has leftovers I happily dispose of quietly, not this time, gave it a hard pass. I felt unfulfilled, I was food frustrated, so I ordered some bacon cheese scones and shared them with the table. They turned out to be the best thing we had, warm Bisquick quality with a good taste of bacon and cheese almost as addicting as Red Lobster cheddar biscuits. We consumed them like a pack of hungry wolves. I asked and was told they don't serve them with butter. These begged for butter. IMO, butter should already be on the table. My wife picked this venue for our birthday treat meal with our beloved Aunt Nan from MA treating us. I apologized to her for our disappointing choice. She said she was glad I said it, she didn't want to say anything to make us feel bad. With tip, the bill for 3 was $171.00. We could have had a better meal and service at an IHOP for a quarter of the cost, I know I would have felt more satisfied. This experience made onto my list of top 5 worst eating experiences.

I'm back! The restaurant is located on 389 Main St. in East Hartford, CT. It's been a few months…read moresince I was last here (December) which is a crime. Carmine's is a fresh from scratch kitchen that is ALWAYS open. Their appetizers, pastas, entrees and desserts combine old-world traditional Italian flavor with a modern flair for presentation, and the freshest ingredients around. Menu staples like rigatoni bolognese, fettuccine carbonara and chicken Milanese are coupled with unique recipes like chicken ala vodka and toasted almond cake. They've staffed the kitchen with a dream team of chefs and you can tell instantly! They also do parties, catering and online ordering/delivery. The restaurant is well known for its live music. There is never a cover and parking is always free. This place and produces absolutely amazing food and drinks. I have noticed quite a few menu changes. The Happy Hour menu has expanded. It's also no longer all day Monday. The main menu no longer has prices on featured drinks (although that's the tre d these days). Note that the Bar Bites menu is available open to close! The Main Menu looks the same although there is a new Wine List (that's a first here). The music is very pleasant and the right volume level. It's always a big cool in here too. For my first drink, I'm having a Pratt N Whiskey. This is made with Woodford Reserve Bourbon, sweet vermouth, red wine and sour mix. It's definitely an unusual drink. It's not garnished, but it tastes great. The wine sticks out for sure. It's clearly a shaken drink not often found with a whiskey component except for maybe Whiskey Sours. For my first item, I'm having the House Salad made with spring mix, basil, tomatoes, julienned (thinly sliced) carrots, cucumbers and house red wine vinaigrette dressing. This is a big portion! I love this dressing! This tastes great! For my next item, I'm trying the Carmine's Secret Tenderloins. These are off of Carmine's "Secret Menu." They are pan seared, caramelized chicken tenderloins, made with wine, olive oil, cracked black pepper (dried black peppercorns broken into coarse, uneven pieces), kosher salt (a coarse, flaky salt named for its use in the Jewish koshering process of drawing blood from meat), shredded Parmesan and a very special "secret sauce." I'm curious as to what this sauce tastes like. Wow! Nice presentation! These are good! I love that sauce! There's a good crowd in here (20 people). Only one worker (bartender and server). She's damn good at what she does! For my next drink, I'm having a Connecticut Cosmo. This is made with Litchfield Vodka, Wild Moon Cranberry, Triple Sec and lime juice. This vodka is the Gold Medal Winner 2018 & 2019 at the New York International Spirits Competition. Silver Medal Winner at the 2017 San Francisco World Spirits Competition! Our Gluten-Free Batchers' Vodka is distilled from luscious corn grown during the beautiful summer months in Somers, CT. We distill 4 ¾ times and use a gravity-fed charcoal filter that takes 12 hours to filter 100 gallons. The longer the vodka sits on the charcoal, the more impurities are removed, which creates an incredibly smooth taste. Bottled at 80 proof. It is impeccably clean, slightly sweet, velvety smooth mouthfeel and sweet buttery overtones. It's smooth with a warm finish with subtle notes of sweet ripe corn at the end. I actually sat down next to the owner of the Distillery at a wine pairing dinner at Flemings in West Hartford about 7-8 years ago. This looks nice! Wow! This has great flavor! For my next item, I'm having the Rigatoni Matinara. Rigatoni is a large, tube-shaped pasta with ridges on the outside and straight-cut ends. Marinara sauce is a tomato sauce usually made with tomatoes, garlic, herbs, and onions. I don't eat pasta all that often. This will serve as my appetizer before I hit the main course. This is a BIG portion! It is very good! For my entree I'm having the Pan Seared Salmon which is "hand cut" salmon with zesty orange glaze served over mashed potatoes with seasonal vegetables (broccoli). Add LOTS of crushed red pepper. Nod that's "LOTS." This is spicy! My kinda spicy! The plate is nice and hot! I like the presentation. This tastes great! What a great meal here!

I can't believe we were charged for bread - twice! We got a small half of a loaf (not even as big…read moreas a half grinder roll) and asked for more. Never have I ever paid for bread in a restaurant and we were asked if we wanted bread - no mention of we had to pay extra for it. Side salads are an extra charge too. If you get a chicken meal expect it to have a very charred taste to it. We found the food to be middle of the road and not very big portions considering we usually take food home from other places. There was a birthday party going on in the restaurant, not in a separate room. Not that it bothered us, but it was extremely loud in there and it seemed to bother the table next to us. Don't expect a quiet dinner in this place. Getting the attention of the waitress was impossible. I had to stand at the bar and wait to pay our bill. The party had the entrance blocked because they were filming and we had to exit through a side entrance, which didn't bother us, but not the best from a safety point of view. Do we recommend the place - no. Will we go back - no.

Came here after going to bingo Loco to finish my celebratory birthday…read more We walked in within an hour of closing, so we were given last call. We were seated at a booth, but quickly moved to the bar where the bartender made our concoctions, chatted with us, and talked about the old distillery that was before the parlor. I got the Smoke Break; mezcal, wild moon sumac, apricot, amaro del capo, lime and absinthe. It was very good, very smoky, but the perfect balance. And of course, the birthday is not complete without shots! We ended up taking the sour cherry vodka, which is one of my favorites We were unable to get food as the kitchen was closed, but we will have to try next time

I originally found Hartford Flavor Cocktail Parlor by accident and it quickly became one of my…read morefavorite spots in Hartford. So of course I had to come back for dinner. The aesthetic is still gorgeous, the vibe is still immaculate, and the space feels both cozy and fun. They even have games tucked away so you can hang out longer, which makes it feel like more than just a bar or restaurant. This time I came for dinner and ordered the steak, which was perfectly tender, juicy, and full of flavor. I also tried the lamb (not usually my thing), but my friend who loves lamb absolutely cleared her plate. So that tells you everything you need to know. Even without having a cocktail this time (I just had water), the experience was still great, which says a lot about the atmosphere and service. We also did this fun blindfolded dessert experience where you're blindfolded and try to guess what you're eating. Its super unique and actually really good. I wish they gave us a little card explaining it, but it was still such a cool touch. Between the food, the ambiance, the creative touches, and the overall vibe, this place just keeps delivering. Whether you're going for brunch, dinner, drinks, or a fun night out, this spot is absolutely worth it. I'll definitely keep coming back.
