I haven't been here in quite a while. Notice how WIDE my parking spot is. The restaurant is located on 110 Glastonbury Blvd in Glastonbury, CT. This may be, perhaps, the best Happy Hour I have ever seen anywhere. It's EVERY DAY from 3:30-6. The food item options are huge (20-25) plus three dessert choices. There's are also seven quality mixed drinks, three beers and seven wines! OMG! The bartender recognized me! I haven't been here since January 2025 (1 1/3 years ago). She is even knew where I sat! The menu is unchanged except for a few minor things. For my first drink, I'm having the Max Manhattan made with Old Overholt Rye, Cinzano Sweet Vermouth, orange bitters and orange twist. This has a nice garnish and tastes great! For my first food item, I'm getting a Caesar Salad made with romaine lettuce, garlic croutons and Parmesan cheese. The smell of cheese is quite strong! It's a good portion. This tastes good! Crunchy croutons and tasty lettuce. For my next food item, I'm having a Salmon lettuce cup. Nice presentation! It's on a bed of ice and a lemon to sprinkle. This is quite good! Next up, I'm having a Cup of Clam Chowder. I believe these are house-made croutons. This came out quick! It's nice and hot! Tastes great! Well, with a little hot sauce that is...I like the classic music here. For my next drink, I'm having an Old Fashioned made with Old Forester Bourbon, simple syrup and Angostura bitters. Damn! Nice presentation (the Amarena cherry on the wooden stick) and a great tasting drink! The bartenders are good here! Very attentive! For my next food item, I'm having the Steamed Mussels made with soppressata, capers, shellfish stock, spring herb butter and Pernod butter. I love the focaccia! It is heavily buttered. The mussels are real good! For my next food item, I'm having the Scallops A La Plancha made with mustard spatzle, pea puree, asparagus and mushroom cream. This is good. It's heavy due to the pasta. It's like an entree. To wash this all down, I'm getting a bottle of Pellegrino sparking water. I like this stuff! For my next food item, I'm having four (Buck a Shuck) Cherrystone clams and four Oysters of the Day (only $1.95 each). These are good! I love the cocktail and vinaigrette sauces (with the crushed pink peppercorns). Sprinkle that lemon! For my next drink, I'm having a Happy Hemmy made with rum, grapefruit juice, lime and vanilla extract. What a great drink! Very unique taste! This has kick! For my food item, I'm having the "Baltimore Style" Shrimp Cocktail made with Old Bay Seasoning and stone ground mustard. OMG! The shrimp are big These are great! I love that mustard! For my next good item, I'm having the Blackened Fish Taco made with pineapple salsa and aji verde. I love it! This is easy to eat. For my last appetizer, I'm having the Happy Burger made with lettuce, tomato and cheddar cheese. I miss this badly! This is delicious! It's a well-seasoned burger let me tell you! For dessert, I'm having the Creme Brulee. This is the cutest Creme brulee ever! On a Happy Hour menu?! This is a first anywhere! My favorite dessert! This is great! For my final drink, I'm having the Gin Gimlet made with Greylock Gin, simple syrup and lime juice. This is good! It's light so it's easy to drink at the end of my meal. That's 11 food items I ate and 4 mixed drinks. What a fantastic meal here! read more

Had an incredible dinner at Max Fish and it honestly delivered across the board. Started with the lobster bisque -- silky, rich, and absolutely amazing. The clam chowder was just as good, thick and loaded with flavor and ingredients in every bite. The grilled octopus with potatoes was a standout -- perfectly tender (not rubbery at all) and packed with flavor. Oysters were fresh, crisp, and just straight up delicious. For the main, the paella was -- rich, loaded with seafood (shrimp, scallops, calamari, mussels, clams), and cooked perfectly. Paired it with a light beer which helped cut through the richness and kept everything balanced. Service was on point and the ambiance made it a great overall experience. Max Fish used to be my favorite restaurant. I love fish, and I felt they always made fish front and center to everything. They used to have "simply prepared" on the menu that was just the fish, with seasonings and complementary sides. That's gone from the menu. It was always perfectly prepared and complimentary to whatever fish you were having. Last night, that changed for me. I have noticed over my last few visits a change in the restaurant. At first, I thought it was just my tastes changing, but last night proved me wrong. I had the "North Atlantic Swordfish Saltimbooca". The description was "Proccuitto, mozzaella cheese, sage mascarpone, white polenta". Polenta is usually soft, with the fish on top. This was polenta soup, with the fish literally swimming in it. In addition, it was greasy. There was a lot of oil around the side. And on top of that, the mozzarella formed a rather nasty hard cheese coating on the fish that I removed to the side with my fork. It was one of the most unappetizing things I've had in a long time. The swordfish was completely lost; no flavor at all. After a few bites, I gave up on it. I also noticed that drinks have gotten smaller. I ordered a martini. It used to be quite generous (it is a $16 drink after all). The glass last night was much smaller, at the same price. The wine was good, but that was about it. VERY DISAPPOINTING. I should have gone with the Fish and Chips! Hard to mess that up. read more

We arrived at 3:30 on a Sunday for Happy Hour. We were promptly seated at the bar high top as a party of 6. We ordered as much as our heart's desired and everything was incredible. I had the burger, blackened, taco and truffle fries for my meal. I also enjoyed the pomegranate margarita, so yummy. For dessert I order the cake truffle and the creme brûlée. What a treat. MAX FISH HAPPY HOUR ALERT...PULPO IS ON THE MENU!!! Need I say more as this grilled octopus was amazing...and it is one of my favorites. The plating was amazing and showed off the giant piece of luscious octopus to advantage with a bit of quac, some pico de gallo, and pea tendrils. Happy hours are always best at the bar! Oh wait, it can ever only be at the bar! Max Fish is no exception to this rule. When their bar is full, they have the oyster bar too. It's actually enjoyable sitting there watching the food be prepared right in front of your eyes. It elevates the experience in all the right ways. It also helps to glance at what everyone else is eating and thinking. "Oh I can have that too." I ordered buffalo shrimp which was most recommended, scallop à la Plancha that was very appetizing and old bay fries and paired it with Sauvignon Blanc. I took a friend today for her birthday and after having drinks and calamari for an app, we decided to go with the lobster rolls at $38 a piece. We were both disappointed. The quantity of the lobster was ok but it did not seem fresh. I believe what they do is take the already cooked lobster meat and sauté in butter and add to the toasted roll. It was a yellow color not red like at the shore. Reheated previously cooked lobster meat just doesn't cut it. The coleslaw was good, but the french fries were not hot and lacked what makes good fries. Ice cream sundae for dessert was phenomenal that we shared. Our waitress was nice and accommodating. I remember the outside patio being much nicer. Flowers in boxes were lacking what you usually see at this time of the year. Boxes looked dried up with no color to them. My friend and I went there for the happy hour. It was so crowded. We were not able to get a seat until after it was over we ordered shrimp cocktail and a salad, and I took a bite of the shrimp and it was so soggy and tasted horrible then I noticed the color they were yellow so I complained to the waitress and she got the manager and the manager said to me I have a fish allergy so I can't try it. I said why would you wanna try it? It's bad and then she said the chef tried it and said there was nothing wrong with it. I said look at it. It's yellow and it's soggy! I've been here twice and both visits were excellent. The first time I visited was with a friend while we were staying at a hotel across the street. I enjoyed my first visit so much I decided to stop here again when I was driving back to MA from NJ. This place has done what I previously thought was impossible: got me to enjoy oysters. Any restaurant that can tell you where the oysters came from and give a flavor description for each has high quality oysters. When I first visited for lunch, my friend and I both ordered the poke bowl with salmon and a cup of clam chowder. Last time I ordered the clam chowder again and grilled fish tacos plus an additional fried shrimp taco for $5 since I happened to be there during happy hour. The tacos were flavorful and large enough for me to have leftovers to take home. The servers are friendly and the ambiance is comfortable. The waiter took my drink when he was clearing the table without asking if I was done (it was half full) when I said something he brought it back from wherever he disposed of it. YUCK! A very eager brunch serving. I ordered the The crab eggs Benedict. They were served on mini English muffins and very small amounts of crab. The dish mostly consisted of soggy potatoes they seem to have been just frozen potatoes taken from a plastic bag. English muffins on the plate to fill the plate up so it would look like it was sizable when it wasn't the plate also included two bar English muffins just to make it look like a full plate but nothing on those English muffins. I have been to max fish a few times now ! And I'm happy to say I always have a great time . The staff is lovely , and the food is amazing , the restaurant is very cold ( at least where I was sitting ) other than that great spot for food ! I started with the shrimp cocktail for my appetizer! Which was served cold over a bowl of ice cream! The shrimp were seasoned to perfection which i loved ! Even the mustard dipping sauce was really good ( and I hate mustard !) I also got the summer salad which was served with fresh ingredients , nice peach balsamic dressing which was really good . Dressing was nice and light perfect for the salad, but did not really taste the peachy flavour . For my entree got the grilled salmon with grilled veggies , couscous and a zucchini paste ! The salmon was cooked perfectly and delicious , the veggies were good ( however very minimal veggies on my plate.. others had a decent amount ). couscous was good as well ! I really enjoyed the zucchini paste it brought everything together perfectly ! This is one of my favorite restaurants that I frequent often. Food is always good, ambiance is great and service is great. Today, our server, Mr. Christian N. Was nothing short of amazing. His attentiveness to detail, checking on us at all the right moments and keeping our drinks full was greatly appreciated. First of all, the happy hour is fantastic. If you haven't been, you must go! I dont want to state days/times in case it changes at some point. We got oysters and cherrystone clams from the raw bar. I have to say the cherrystones might have been the biggest I have ever had, very enjoyable. The black bass special was extremely flavorful and should be on the main menu if it wasn't for the seasonality. Our waitress was ready to rock and was helpful along the way. My brother's flavored martini was great and then the next two were made different, so had three different drinks under the same title. Amazing! Decided to go here after seeing so many good reviews. I thought this would be the best place to celebrate my parents' birthday and we all left happy. We were seated in the dining section of the restaurant (it's huge) and it was so nice inside. Our server was super friendly and attentive. He answered all of our questions and gave recommendations. We started off with drinks and the sampler. I strongly recommend the sampler for a group of three or more. It had everything we needed and more! The seafood was so fresh and tasty. For the entree I went with the NY steak strip and half a lobster. Not only was it delicious but filling and I was able to take the rest home. One of the best happy hours in CT. It's not just the cost and what you get for it, it's also absolutely delicious. Fast service and incredibly fast food. On the eve before Thanksgiving, at 82 yesrs old, after a day traveling by train from New York and staying at the Hilton Garden Inn, I declined going with my Glastonbury family to the casinos and to pickle ball. My nephew spoke highly of Max Fish, so with great expectations, I was looking forward to a delicious seafood dinner, at walking distance from the hotel. I ordered the $39 lobster bake with clams, chorizo, potatoes and corn. I don't like sending food back, but I should have. The clams were too chewy to swallow, so they went into the shell waste dish. Everything was piled on so high, that it was a chore to begin eating the too chewy barely warm lobster. The kitchen did not crack the claws, which I tried to do myself, so after attempting to break them, and spraying my sweater with lobster juce, I finally got the attention of the waiter to ask him for a lobster cracker. He was very apologetic. He told me that they should have taken care of that. I tried to eat the rest of the dish, but everything was barely lukewarm. I again got the attention of the waiter. I asked him if this specialty was to be served hot or just lukewarm. He said hot. I had him touch the bottom of the plate, and once again he was very apologetic. He sent the manager to me who offered me a dessert on the house, which I gracefully declined. On my way out, I stopped to look into the kitchen and understood completely. It appeared to be a fast food takeout kitchen. If you care more for quantity than quality, then I recommend you go to Max Fish, and spend a lot of your hard earned cash for a heap of uninspired poorly cooked food. I do not recommend this restaurant to those if you who enjoy quality cuisine, from restaurants that care for their clients. Another word about the service. A waiter, who brings a plate directly from the kitchen, should feel that the plate is not hot enough to serve his guest, for if the plate is not hot then neither is the food. Thankfully, this ruined dining experience will be quickly forgotten at Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow for which I am truly grateful. read more

I was part of a large group for dinner at Max's Fish. I ordered the Filet Oscar but got the Filet. I was looking for the crab when it arrived but didn't say anything as it was a large party and I just went with it, although I was disappointed. When the bill came I realized I was charged $59 for the filet (didn't even look at the price of the steaks so wasn't aware of the price discrepancy) so brought it up with the waitress before paying my bill. The waitress said she heard filet and I said I said Oscar and I know she heard because I said veal Oscar and she said they don't have veal and I corrected myself and said the filet Oscar, sorry my mistake. My friend sitting next to me confirmed it to me. She then told me the manager graciously took the $14 off my bill, I said thanks and thought all set. Well imagine my surprise when I go to use my leftovers and they had taken out the filet and left me with a bit of mashed potatoes and a few asparagus. I have never had anything like this happen before at a restaurant. Obviously they thought I was trying to get the more expensive entrée so didn't give me the leftover filet. I won't be going to any of the Max's owned restaurants as that was not my intention and that to me is bizarre business practice. I have been to 5, some multiple times but this left me pondering why they bothered to reopen my to-go box and take the filet. Just weird. read more
