On the eve before Thanksgiving, at 82 yesrs old, after a day traveling by train from New York and staying at the Hilton Garden Inn, I declined going with my Glastonbury family to the casinos and to pickle ball. My nephew spoke highly of Max Fish, so with great expectations, I was looking forward to a delicious seafood dinner, at walking distance from the hotel. I ordered the $39 lobster bake with clams, chorizo, potatoes and corn. I don't like sending food back, but I should have. The clams were too chewy to swallow, so they went into the shell waste dish. Everything was piled on so high, that it was a chore to begin eating the too chewy barely warm lobster. The kitchen did not crack the claws, which I tried to do myself, so after attempting to break them, and spraying my sweater with lobster juce, I finally got the attention of the waiter to ask him for a lobster cracker. He was very apologetic. He told me that they should have taken care of that. I tried to eat the rest of the dish, but everything was barely lukewarm. I again got the attention of the waiter. I asked him if this specialty was to be served hot or just lukewarm. He said hot. I had him touch the bottom of the plate, and once again he was very apologetic. He sent the manager to me who offered me a dessert on the house, which I gracefully declined. On my way out, I stopped to look into the kitchen and understood completely. It appeared to be a fast food takeout kitchen. If you care more for quantity than quality, then I recommend you go to Max Fish, and spend a lot of your hard earned cash for a heap of uninspired poorly cooked food. I do not recommend this restaurant to those if you who enjoy quality cuisine, from restaurants that care for their clients. Another word about the service. A waiter, who brings a plate directly from the kitchen, should feel that the plate is not hot enough to serve his guest, for if the plate is not hot then neither is the food. Thankfully, this ruined dining experience will be quickly forgotten at Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow for which I am truly grateful. read more

Went here for dinner with a large party and sat out on the patio. Our waitress was friendly enough but we were not given enough silverware nor crayons with the kids menu. We did ask when she came back and she got both items so not really a problem. I had the toscana salad which is one of the "Max" franchise items which is always tasty. Came here yesterday for some seafoods. My family really enjoyed seafood. For starters, we got the mussels, tuna tarter, baked clams and a raw bar tower. The mussels were delicious with the coconut curry sauce. The baked clams was great but wished the clams were a little bigger. The rawr bar is a great way to try a little of everything which was also fresh. We got the calm chowder which was delicious for a cold day. We got the lobster roll and fish and chips as the main. The fish was crispy outside and moist inside. The lobster roll had big chunks of lobster meat. One of the roll had a hair inside but they changed it for us and came out with a new one. I was part of a large group for dinner at Max's Fish. I ordered the Filet Oscar but got the Filet. I was looking for the crab when it arrived but didn't say anything as it was a large party and I just went with it, although I was disappointed. When the bill came I realized I was charged $59 for the filet (didn't even look at the price of the steaks so wasn't aware of the price discrepancy) so brought it up with the waitress before paying my bill. The waitress said she heard filet and I said I said Oscar and I know she heard because I said veal Oscar and she said they don't have veal and I corrected myself and said the filet Oscar, sorry my mistake. My friend sitting next to me confirmed it to me. She then told me the manager graciously took the $14 off my bill, I said thanks and thought all set. Well imagine my surprise when I go to use my leftovers and they had taken out the filet and left me with a bit of mashed potatoes and a few asparagus. I have never had anything like this happen before at a restaurant. Obviously they thought I was trying to get the more expensive entrée so didn't give me the leftover filet. I won't be going to any of the Max's owned restaurants as that was not my intention and that to me is bizarre business practice. I have been to 5, some multiple times but this left me pondering why they bothered to reopen my to-go box and take the filet. Just weird. read more

My sister and I took my mom to Max Fish for Resurrection Day. Our starters were 10 NY Fishers raw oysters and Spicy steamed mussels and shrimp in spicy coconut curry. My sister and I's first drink was pretty strong. It was a Navy Proof with Myers Rum. It was pretty tasty. Our second drink was a Sausalito it sunk the Navy Proof, like the Titanic. My wife and I were celebrating the day that I proposed to her. We had a very nice meal. I started with the tuna tar tar and my wife had some shrimp cocktail. Our entrees were the paella and a Tuscan salad with grilled chicken (not a big seafood gal). Food was all on point. What I would like to point out was the service. Alex helped plan the event and was patient with all questions and clear and detailed in each of her answers. On the day of the event, our two servers Carlton and Ash were beyond excellent. They were attentive and made sure everyone's needs were met quickly and always with a smile. We will certainly be having future parties here and asking for them again. My wife and I had a great dinner on the Max Fish patio tonight. The patio was beautiful with its shades of blues, ceiling stripes and flowers. Service was top notch. Our primary waiter was attentive, friendly and efficient, and Max Fish had a team approach to service. We started with two chowders. My wife had the New England Clam Chowder and I had a Manhattan seafood chowder. My wife's chowder had great texture and flavor from my brief taste of it. I don't usually order Manhattan style chowder, but I was looking for something lighter than New England style. It was decent, but did not convert me. For my dinner, I ordered the Raw Bar Sampler, which consisted of oysters, shrimp cocktail, Baltimore style shrimp, tuna tartare, scallops ceviche, snow crab claws and little necks. It was my first time eating something like this in a while and it was fantastic. The shrimp and crab claws were perfect. The oysters and little necks were on point. The tuna tartare was very good. One of my favorite parts of the sampler was the scallop ceviche. The scallops had great flavor and texture and they were dressed with what I'll call deconstructed, chopped guacamole. My wife's Scallops A La Plancha was great too. The scallops were expertly seared. The golden couscous had a mild, but pleasant flavor and the asparagus, peas, chickpeas and blistered cherry tomatoes added greens and reds and crunchiness. The burst of liquid from the tomatoes really added to the dish. It was a classic Max Restaurant Group performance. I expect nothing less. read more

I think the quality of the food and ingredients is superb. Can get pricy but with it 99% of the time. The 1% that I didn't like was the octopus from The regular or specials menu it was a salty but the grill was pretty good. Food was consistent ; service was solid ; ambiance was meh.. a huge part of restaurant experience for me is the overall vibe and that was missing for me.. for a few keys reasons.. - location, location!! Compared to Oyster House this is in the middle of nowhere and felt isolated.. - As mentioned we did go on a Sunday afternoon on a holiday weekend so we need to give it a pass here - but what really got me was that we sat at a highboy by the bar and they were flies EVERYWHERE!! Due to the pandemic and restaurant restrictions we were able to enjoy Max Fish's outdoor patio seating. The ambiance is absolutely fantastic! Even with the mask upon entry and wait staff masked and gloved up- it still felt like an amazing dining experience- one that I have not had for a few months now! Max Fish does a great job at adhering to all the health and safety regulations due to the pandemic so don't fear going out here! Their drinks are pretty amazing as well! I got a blackberry sangria which essentially tasted like a piece of blackberry pie with the praline- so good! My sister got a sparkling rosé and my sister and her friend got a delicious pink sangria! This is our second time here and it exceeded our expectations again. Started with the oysters - we decided to try every option they offered and were glad we did for each one had a different flavor.
