Mocha
Emma S.

This was my son and my third time trying Picazo Cafe. It's become one of his favorite spots since we moved to Sonoma County. While it's a half hour drive from home, we often enjoy visiting Sonoma and the combination of good options, fresh salsa and relatively reasonable prices has encouraged us to return. Ordering occurs at the counter as you enter, but they're happy to walk you through the menu, if you'd like. We had only been seated for a few minutes before our beverages landed on the table. My son's chai was a great balance between spicy and sweet and my mocha was flavorful without being overly sweet. Their barista checked in with us about the temperature after dropping off our drinks. Both had a nice amount of foam on top! Now, for those looking for a more formal dining experience, that's not this, just to be clear. It feels elevated for a roadside diner with more personality than most of the breakfast places we've found closer to home in Cotati or Rohnert Park, but still quite approachable. We tried the Picazo Flan French Toast on a previous visit and it was good, but the "flan" aspect didn't really come through and I found it rather too sweet for my palate. They know what they're doing with the Huevos and Chilaquiles though! Both come with fresh avocado and salsa. The tortillas stand up to the salsa and don't fall apart. We definitely have more items that we'd like to explore on the menu, plus there are always Mexican pastries in the cases by the order counter. Their burgers also seem to be quite popular.

Things have changed up quite a bit since my last review and I actually come here a lot now :) the salmon bowl rocks!!

Picazo Burger

Loved my experience at Picazo! Breakfast at this restaurant made my trip to Sonoma - the food, the vibes, and the people working were so lovely. I got their chilaquiles verde with chorizo that was mouthwatering with their Soy Macha chili oil. My friends got their Picazo burger, brunch burrito, and huevos rancheros, and we all left with full stomachs and smiles on our faces. Their menu is expansive and has something for everybody, with a lot of vegetarian options. Not to mention, the chai latte and iced coffees were full of flavor and creaminess that are things of dreams, along with those mimosas. I will make sure to come back to Sonoma just for this family-run, community staple.

Patio area games

Family of 4 - We stopped here for lunch after a camping trip. Great vibe: indoor and outdoor eating space, big games to play on the patio. The food is pretty good deli / burger / Mexican. it's a good quality food match for the setting, and good food and experience for kids.

I went to Kenwood to pick up my wine membership and happen to drive by Picazo Cafe, my husband said they have the best burger. I quickly made a right to turn around and headed back. This is a nice and cozy cafe. You are greeted with a smile, you order, you get a number and pick your seat. My husband had one of the burgers with medium spice sauce and I had a torta with skirt steak. My husband had an Arnold palmer and I had wine. the wine is a healthy portion and the Arnold palmer was in a big to go cup. We were very satisfied with our drinks. My husband's burger was delicious with onion rings. The medium sauce was very spicy. Thank god he ordered medium. My torta with skirt steak was nice. It looked like they tried to elevate it but the skirt steak was not very flavorful. The fries were delightful. In the back, which I looked through the open door but did not experience, looked very nice. There was a large connect 4 game. I really like the establishment, very friendly and I recommend it.

Had a wonderful lunch @ Picazo. Fish and chips were very good, came with the salad that had a delicious dressing on it. Grabbed some pastries for later, and the coffee shake was killer! And our server was very attentive and helpful.

Almond croissant

The breakfast burrito was sadly tasteless and sad. To top it off, it also barely had any sausage. I kid you not, on one half of the burrito, there was literally one piece of sausage. I was probably at least 6 bites deep before I even hit the first sausage. The croissant sandwich wasn't bad though. The croissant itself is well made. The ham is spread evenly through the sandwich. They give a generous amount of egg. The almond croissant was also pretty good too, though it may need a tad more of the delicious filling. They actually forgot to even give me my croissant but were apologetic when I went back up to ask for it. I'm just glad I remembered it at the end of our meal. They have some outdoor seating with foosball, cornhole, giant connect four, etc. cute little are! Clearly I have very mixed feelings about this place so far lol.

Outdoor seating, huevos rancheros

A small cafe by the side of the road, serving breakfast, fresh coffee and pastries. We had the huevos rancheros and a breakfast egg and cheese sandwich. There's seating inside and outdoors as well as a restroom. There's parking by the side of the road as well but we arrived by walking. Overall the service was great! Food was delicious and steaming hot when it came out. Would eat here again :)

Steak-Topped Veggie Bowl, ($18) - the sauces are really good.
Tracey A.

Although it took a moment to find the menu, I didn't miss the sign: "voted best burger 8 years in a row". So we'd be getting a burger. And a bowl of vegetables (spinach, carrots, zucchini, potatoes) topped with steak ($18) and accompanied by some zesty sauces. Picazo is the sort of place where you order and pay at the counter then take a seat indoors or out. Servers deliver food to your table and, ostensibly, clear the table when you're through though that seemed to be a task for which there wasn't much appetite. Many unoccupied tables were left with dirty dishes atop them during my visit. The burger was as advertised and easily award-winning for the area. It was big and messy and satisfying. Though it comes with fries an upcharge will get you onion rings instead and that's what I sampled. Quite good, all of it. The steak-topped vegetable bowl was good as well, even if it seemed like something one might cook up in their own kitchen using up leftover vegetables from the crisper. Those tangy sauces accompanying the order did a lot to make this dish quite tasty. Before leaving, an order arrived at the table beside me: a huge açaí bowl with peanut butter. It looked so impossibly big and satisfying that I momentarily wished I was walking in right then as this is what I'd order. Picazo is a very casual, comfortable spot to satisfy your hunger pangs. I like to try different places when I revisit an area but I left here knowing that I'd also have no qualms with returning.

Eggs Benedict!

Ordered breakfast this morning & decided to go with a build your own breakfast sandwich. 10/10 would order again! I got a croissant sandwich with ham, American cheese, onion, avocado & spicy picazo sauce. It was delicious & so filling!

If you like spicy, crunchy chilaquiles this is your spot! I've never had a bad meal here, but those chilaquiles... hoooo boy.

Ask the Community - Picazo Cafe

Will they make a reservation ? We are part of Sonoma newcomers group and meet once a month for lunch. Usually between 4-8 people and generally have a good headcount a week or two ahead of time.

I think you might be better off having your get togethers at their other establishment, Kina’s Kitchen. It’s larger and takes reservations. Picazo does have an outdoor area that you might be able to reserve though. Either way, you’re in good hands!

Are bottomless mimosas available?

Worth a try! They also own Kina’s, with a full bar!

There is a reason why this place has won best sandwich in Sonoma for the last ten years…read more We are tourists, we came here TWICE for lunch but I wouldn't have minded if we also came for breakfast and dinner hahahaha. You go all the way back to the deli, grab a paper and pen and fill out the sheet on how you want your sandwich. Then place it on the counter and they stick it in line. Sandwiches take a few minutes especially if you want it hot or toasted. If you want a burrito or some special not on the paper, just announce it to them and they'll make a paper and put it in line. They put a ton of meat of the sandwiches. We were very pleased. I went with the cucumber which was 0.50 extra so my sandwich was $15.99. My husband got the pesto which is also an extra charge. They forgot the pesto but we took the sandwich to go, so we didn't realize that. The next time we got lunch, I had the burrito and it needed salsa or hot sauce. Luckily, we ate outside in the covered seating area and I was able to go back in to get hot sauce AND the pesto sauce they forgot a second time. What is it about the pesto that they forget? They offered to remake the sando but I said no just gimme a side. Apparently there is hot sauce by the microwave FYI. The store has all kinds of drinks and snacks. We grabbed two small bags of chips. They also have premade meals for lunch dinner and even breakfast. Everything looked so good. If I lived there, I would shop all the time. They have a butcher shop as well. There is a small bathroom around the back for customers. And a sink in the covered eating area to wash your hands. Parking is along the street or their little lot. Check this place out. It's not fancy. But is sure is good.

We saw the sign in front of the building which said they had award winning sandwiches, so we thought we'd give it a try. We entered and found our way to the deli counter where we were greeted by a sandwich maker. Once we made our choice--ham and turkey with provolone on crusty white sourdough bread with mayo, pickles, lettuce and tomato, we waited for the assembly. While waiting we pondered grabbing a pasta salad from the tasty looking assortment on the shelf to accompany our sandwich but in the end opted for a container of local California strawberries, and chips (plain for the hubs and oil and vinegar for yours truly). While at the register the friendly cashier suggested a Mexican marzipan style cookie, which we readily agreed to. Lunch was delicious later as we sat on a park bench by a peaceful pond in the middle of Jack London state park. My husband particularly enjoyed the bread. We'd recommend the market to anyone in need of a delicious sandwich and we'll be back next time we're in Sonoma. They also had a plenteous supply of groceries.

You'll spend a little more, but the shopping experience is more curated and atmospheric, and the products speak for themselves. I stopped in recently while on a short trip to Sonoma, specifically for salsa, some kind of dip or spread for crackers, and a cheese or two. I spent awhile browsing because that's the best part, and left with exactly what I needed (proud and amazed I stuck to my budget haha). I bought a fantastic bleu cheese, brie, a cantina style salsa, and this whipped, layered, tomato-basil dip made of ground almonds, avocado, sour cream, tomatoes, and herbs. Kind of a lot going on, but it was so good. It's always fun to see what you'll find here. As I was heading back to the square (where there is an abundance of restaurants), I didn't want the busyness of the scene; thankfully, I got on Instagram, typed "good eats in Sonoma", and BAM! Salumeria Ovello popped up on my feed, and thank goodness it did! An easy 4-minute walk from Vallejo House, Salumeria Ovello is owned by Andrea, who is a Michelin-star chef from the area of Piedmont, Italy. Having been to Italy twice this past year alone, I remember quite well the quality and taste of the classed Italian Sandwiches. The worker who served at the counter was very helpful, and within the restaurant --- there are just a few seats. I'd say, 3 tables with two seats at each table. For my food, I decided to order the Massimo --- which is on "sliced Focaccia, and has sun dried tomatoes, stracciatella di burrata, prosciutto cotto, basil pesto and crumbled taralli (crackers)". Each sandwich is made fresh-to-order, and you can taste the quality. Each ingredient worked together in harmony, and to satisfy the americani in me, I definitely enjoyed the taralli in the sandwich --- reminded me of putting chips in my sandwiches in school. While I waited, Andrea also brought out some slices of salami for me to try --- free of charge, which was very kind of him to do. All in all, if you want to get away from the busyness of the Mission Square, take a 4-minute walk to Salumeria Ovello, and you'll find a little piece of Italy in Sonoma! Ciao tutti!
