Cute little bakery on our stop in the little Sonoma Plaza on the way back home. A kind grandpa sitting on the patio welcomed us in and said it was good. Got the banana bread, tuna melt, and chia pudding with granola added. Everything was good. The banana bread was good warmed up, a nice sugary hard top layer. The chia pudding was very good, not sugary at all and tastes healthy like i like it with lots of fresh strawberries and the granola i recommend adding for &1.50. The tuna melt was delicious! Reminds me how my mom would make it growing up, i tasted hints of blu cheese very subtle and nice amount of onions. Def recommend checking out when passing thru area. The staff was also very kind. Shameful bad conditions for such great location! Dirty, busy, bad customer service. The front door glass is covered in handprints not cleaned in a long time, glass front walls old, scratched, hard to see out. Dirty dishes pilled high on tables, and busy. Outside tables not sit straight just big mess furniture. Bakery case again glass is dirty, can't see baked goods clearly, Baked goods appear to be tasty, and breads. Ordered panini and eating second half there was a hair in it. I spit it out disgusting! I told cashier and showed her it as it was short black curly hair, not my hair type. She offered a baked goods. I requested a refund as it cost $15. The cashier became defensive said they don't do refunds on half eaten food, inspected the hair said it was not same hair type as person preparing food (suggesting what I purposely placed a hair?!) said the hair was on top.... Finally refunded me. They should have health department inspection!! read more

Stopped by around 1 p.m. with my family after walking through the beautiful park across the street. We love trying local bakeries, so we were excited to check this place out. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. We were the only customers in line, but the staff didn't greet us or even make eye contact, which made us feel unwelcome. My parents were uncomfortable, so we left. I later went back to grab a baguette for a snack, but it was hard and chewy and didn't seem very fresh. Maybe I caught them on an off day, but between the service and the bread, I don't see myself coming back. read more

I stopped by in the mid-afternoon, and since most of their pastries and breads were already sold out, I ordered a flatbread ($10). It was overbaked, burnt on the sides and too crunchy. If you visit, come early before they run out of their items, and definitely skip the flatbread. read more

Nice little cafe conveniently located right along the perimeter of Sonoma plaza. Was greeted by a nicely elderly gentleman who was sitting outside eating a salad. someone said he might be the owner. We only had drinks this time. I tried one of their specialty Spanish latte which is basically just latte with sweetened condensed milk. Also truer ice hazelnut latte. Coffee was average and orice was about average for the area ~$6-8 depending on size shd flavor. Will try some pastries next time. read more

Walked by this cafe while walking Sonoma. It was busy so I thought it would be good but I was so wrong. Ordered prosciutto and Brie sandwich and Matcha Latte. Sandwich has one thinly sliced prosciutto, pieces of pear and minimal Brie. It was not worth the $12.75. Matcha latte felt underwhelmed. Does not taste much Matcha flavors and they did not use any syrup. Bland and no flavors. The worst Matcha I ever had. Would not recommend this place for sandwiches or drinks. 8/17/25 Highly tempting carb/loaded pastries ... looks like a local favorite. Shout out to Derek, fine young man who convinced me to get the bread pudding. Nice, clean, cute shop. Was looking for a bakery & we landed here. This shop is in the main drag where are plenty of shops to peruse or simply just stop in & try. The bread pudding caught my eye coz it's Hubby's favorite. Derek tells me he hears good things about it although he's never had it himself. Took a gamble & got one. It is heavy for its size. Visited the lavatory, clean & well maintained for a place that's been a local & tourist hangout for quite sometime, it definitely needs an update but it is adequate. I'm ever a big fan of Basque Boulangerie. It was originally called Sonoma French Bakery (established in 1956), but revamped and renamed itself in '94. But it's the same French bakery its always been.. classic pastries and bread, good coffee, fantastic sandwiches, and the most heavenly smell emanating from it's ovens and into the square. My dad used to be a regular patron of this bakery as a kid, so I think it's extra fun to still visit. Even though I have to eat gluten free, haha!! I'm extremely grateful that they always have a couple gluten free pastries available. Their gluten free muffins are incredible -- fluffy and buttery and not too dense, just like a classic muffin. I had blueberry on my last visit and it was perfection. read more

My husband and I attended the free concert in Sonoma Plaza today. I sent him for sandwiches at the Basque Boulangerie. After reviewing the lunch menu online, we decided on the turkey paninni. Oh my heavens! First of all it was the best sandwich I've had in years! Seriously good. Turkey, cheese, fresh panini. Served warm. And it was huge. We ate half and took the rest home for dinner. Stopped in here for a sandwich and was pretty disappointed by the place. When ordering at the counter the was focused on everything else but taking out order and was rather short with is when we asked about the different breads. I think you can see by the photos the sandwiches were nothing to get excited about. You can do better. read more

Just went to the cafe yesterday and had a picnic in the park! We ordered sandwiches, which were simple and delicious. The ingredients were fresh and the portions sized perfectly. I usually wont write reviews simply because i believe that its okay if someone is having a bad day. But this was far worst than that. We came in 20 minutes before closing and requested 2 garlic breads. They assumed we just wanted two slices. When we cleared up that it was two loaves they wanted to charge us $95!!!!!!!!!!!! FOR TWO LOAVES OF GARLIC BREAD. He said they were about to close and were pretty much making US a favor. We immediately said no thank you. He got extremely upset and said the girl had already started and so we had to buy whatever she had begun making. We denied and said we would only be willing to buy 2 loaves of bread. The tension grew. Sadly i will not be coming back, its such a shame to see such a wonderful bakery go so low after YEARS of business. read more

Cute and quaint Spanish bakery in Sonoma Square. This place was bustling on Saturday afternoon. It smells so heavenly once you walk in as they serve pastries and coffee. They have an almond scone that is so legendary that it's always what I get plus some yummy baked goods for the weekend. They provide good and fast customer service. I recommend taking some time and looking at the full menu, which is on a chalkboard above the counter and know what you want when they call your number. They tend to move very quickly because the bakery gets busy and they wanna move people in and out. They have some small tables inside the bakery and few tables outside as well. I highly recommend coming to this place next time you're in Sonoma Square even if you're not in mood for sweets trust me and pay them a visit and grab some goodies to go. You will thank me later and enjoy it with a nice cup of coffee the next day. It's an awesome way to enjoy life! read more

very few places have quiche or frittata so i was excited to find this place only to be disappointed. the sausage/ham/bacon quiche has the toppings on top so no flavor throughout, no cheese, no salt/pepper, so very bland. the crust was not baked so was doughy. can't recommend but maybe other things are good. read more

I really wanted to like this bakery, but our experience was disappointingly bad. We ordered two sandwiches -- the ham, cheese & egg on a croissant (which was actually pretty good) and the bacon panini. The panini, however, was nearly inedible. The bread was so hard it felt overcooked or overheated, like something that had been microwaved too long. When I politely mentioned it to the owner, she was completely unapologetic. Instead of acknowledging the issue, she tried to excuse it by saying, "That's just focaccia bread," as if we've never had focaccia before. It felt dismissive and borderline gaslight-y. She offered no fix, no apology... nothing. We also bought several pastries, and when I asked for a bag she repeatedly tried to squeeze everything into the smallest bag possible instead of using the clearly better-sized branded bags sitting right beside her. It came across like they were more focused on cutting costs than providing decent customer service. Overall, the food (aside from the croissant sandwich) was a miss, and the attitude was even worse. A bit sugary over a bit thicker croissant like dough with a sweet crunch at the bottom where the sugars caramelized. Not overly sweet and hit the spot. Water jug with little metal cups. I visit Sonoma on occasion and always stay at the Ledson hotel next to this bakery but had never been until today. I read reviews and was expecting dry, overpriced pastries but those reviews are incorrect. I ordered about 10 pastries, I only wanted four but couldn't decide. Then ordered four coffees. I was expecting it to cost what I would pay back home in Reno at the bakery I like to go to but it was half that price! Then the taste test. The pastries were delicious and not dry at all. I first at a cheese danish and, it tastes perfect. Not too sweet and not dry! The scone was how I like them too, like how I would make them. This place is great! My Boyfriend said every time he walks by this bakery, there's a line out the door- so as we walked by and there were only a FEW people inside, I knew I HAD TO CHECK THIS PLACE OUT!!! Such a cute, quaint little cafe with GIANT PASTRIES! I wasn't even hungry, but the delicious looking pastries and beautiful smell of coffee made me order! I also love their coffee sign for those that don't know coffee menus. (See pix) hee. The lady restocking in the back was very patient with me since I couldn't decide which decadent pastry to order, and then the gentleman that helped me actually order a couple minutes later it was incredibly polite and understanding of me taking so long. Lol too many choices, and I wanted mini samples of everything! Lol. I got a chocolate macaroon and it was simply delicious!! I also got an iced almond milk latte, and that was the perfect pairing! I have never been to this area before and love all the little vignettes and murals along with the park like setting. There was a docent at the local museum, and he told us how, this area was once owned by captain Vallejo or was it general Vallejo? I know of the name, I just forget but he designed this square to look like it does in Mexico. It really reminds me of the DF/Mexico City. Lived here in the county over 60 years and first time to this local mainstay on Labor Day. Cinnamon Bun and regular coffee was good. The Croque Madame and Frittata were mostly terrible. Frittata looked good but was tasteless. Croque Madame was a deli sliced piece of ham with a fried egg inside buttered sourdough with bechamel, sounds good but missed it altogether. The egg was inside and over cooked. Should be on top and able to break the yoke over the sandwich. Texture and flavor were just not there. Maybe just stick with the pastries. Restroom was two stars as well. Toilet was walking on the floor. Needed upgrading and attention at 9:30 in the morning. Time for the management/owners to wake up to the retail side of things. read more
