The service was good, and the cashier was very helpful in recommending a dessert based on what I was looking for. I appreciated the friendly customer service and the generous portion size. For me, though, the dessert was just okay. It was much sweeter than I prefer, and the sweetness overpowered the other flavors. They do customized cakes here and I've called so many neighboring bake shops, and they either don't do customized cakes or there were no response. I got a hold of the customized cake person here, Marcela and she is the owner as well as doing the designs for customized cakes! She goes above and beyond as I talked a lot of elements with her about the cake I want as well as cookies. Their cake is also delicious! Usually the customized cakes, look pretty but isn't delicious. This one was both to my delightful surprise. I opted for mixed fruit for my baby's first birthday party Harry Potter themed "The Chosen One" and everyone complimented on the cake's dragon, cake's flavor and overall design. They also went out of their way to help me pack the cake to my car since it was heavy and required care and handling as well as the batch of cookies I ordered. I went to pick up a cheesecake for my friend's birthday and while at it wondered if I should also choose my own cake for my upcoming birthday. Tried a sample of the Princess Cake, and I was SOLD! I canNOT believe I have never left a review!!! We have been loving princess cakes, pastries, coffee, and lunch for 25+ YEARS. The princess cake is the best one we've ever had, (sometimes someone will go off book and get it from elsewhere and people turn up their noses!!) everyone in my family wants one for their birthday but one is gluten free so we ordered the flourless chocolate cake and a dozen macaroons. I can't say enough good things about this place. I ordered a custom cake and when I went to pick it up, their system wasn't currently accepting Apple Pay and I had no other form of payment on me. I hope they realize their Oatmeal cookie is horrible. Its not even a cookie. I asked if they have one and she just put it in a bag for me, she didn't show me anything. My mistake for not telling her to show me the cookie before I bought it. The barista doesnt know how to make drinks. She went to the back to get one of the bakers and forgot to give me the bad cookie that I went back for. Even more disappointing that I went back for it. When I called over the phone to tell her she forgot to give me the cookie she said "okay." I had to initiate the conversation, and the first time I called they picked up the phone but didn't answer. It took a while for anyone to come out from the back to help anyway. I should have walked out. The girl who helped, came out chewing. I asked if she was new because people make these mistakes, but she said no. Just not very attentive with poor communication skills I guess. The cakes are dry here and don't have great flavor. I haven't bought one for years. The French macarons taste okay but they are also pretty horribly made. Dont sell items for the price you do if you can't make them right. This has won the title of worst place in town. Seems like a couple of locals come here because it's quiet. I've never seen more than two customers at a time. Kids wanted an adventure so we chose to come over to Sonoma and found this bakery as one of the higher rated bakeries. The selection was high, even being later in the day. The various cookie choices gave plenty of options & my girls loved both the green dinosaur and pink/purple butterfly. They say the cookie tasted "good!" . We got three cake slices to try, Princess Cake- slight almond flavor with smooth filling & delicate cake, Raspberry Chocolate Ganache- thick ganache with perfect sweetness, subtle raspberry flavor that paired nicely with the soft chocolate cake, Fruit Basket - our favorite that matched the season well. Mixed fruit inside a deliciously delicate whip cream type filling, so much fruit each bite had a minimum of one bite sized piece of either strawberry or peach. We picked up a few of the pink butterflies for the kids, raspberry print cookies and the mocha macaroons for later. Short review incoming! Scandia Bakery opened some time back in Sonoma and I had taken my sweet time making my way over to give it a shot. Is it something revolutionary, not necessarily, but it does serve some delicious sweets and some good local coffee! I know a lot of reviewers talk about their wonderful cakes, but I however cannot comment on it and more so shift my focus to a grab and go scenario versus ordering ahead for a special event. Croissant, cookies, coffee all under 10 dollars...um yes! Not only was it inexpensive, it was delicious! I feel sad now that I waited so long to give it a go to be honest. On top of that their customer service was superb, very personal, which I feel is rare nowadays. As for parking, don't fret, it is located in a strip mall of sorts with plenty of parking.
