Ooh cheesecakes
Rachel M.

Yummy bakery in downtown Napa! Very homey and cozy in a convenient plaza with free parking and the perfect place for sweets after a meal in one of the nearby restaurants. The display cases house delicious pies, cheesecakes, cakes in a variety of sizes (individual to 6-8 servings) and flavors (lemon blueberry, dulce de leche, etc). There are also cookies, pastries, bars, brownies. For Mother's Day I got a 6 inch 3 layer chocolate mousse cake and large s'mores tart - both were decadent, rich and highly acclaimed by my family. The service was friendly but a bit curt since it was busy. Brownie points for allowing them to store my cakes in their fridge while I had lunch with my family.

Lemon Meringue Pie
Scott H.

There are desserts, and then there are moments, this was decidedly the latter. At our pre-Easter family gathering, a lemon crème meringue pie took center stage and delivered something truly memorable. The meringue rose like a delicate cloud, lightly sweet, airy, and beautifully toasted, each bite dissolving with just enough structure to remind you of its craft. Beneath it, the lemon filling struck that elusive balance: bright and vibrant, yet luxuriously smooth, with a decadence that never crossed into excess. It danced perfectly between tart citrus and gentle sweetness, leaving you reaching back for another forkful before you even realized it. The crust, often an afterthought in lesser pies, was executed with precision, thin, crisp, and just sturdy enough to support the layers without competing for attention. It framed the experience rather than distracting from it. Yes, it leaned toward the higher end in price, but this was not simply dessert, it was an experience worth every dollar. The table fell quiet in that rare, collective appreciation, followed by the inevitable chorus of "Where did you get this?" A showstopper in every sense, elevated, indulgent, and unforgettable.

Outside, Thanksgiving pies secured
Liann A.

This review is mainly in regards to their pies. My brother requested I get pies from Sweetie Pies for Thanksgiving this year and luckily I called the last day to order pies for Thanksgiving which was the week before. They are open half day on Thanksgiving so I opted to pick up the day before to not get stuck in traffic. I easily called and asked what their most popular pies were and they said pumpkin and apple pie so I had to get both. It came out to about $80. They have individual pies there from what's ever out so I wanted to try their Pear Berry Pie so I got an individual and there are nuts in it. Their pumpkin pie was nice and creamy and should be refrigerated. Their Apple Pie was very tangy and goes well with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream! The crumble top was also SO good! Their fruit pies can be kept at room temperature. I enjoyed the individual ($13) Pear Berry pie, nice and tart and with the nuts was a perfect touch, still big enough to share! There's a little parking lot located around the Napa River Inn Front area, there's also street parking, and a parking garage on the corner. There is both indoor and outdoor seating, people were getting breakfast, coffee, and pastries too. A nice little spot to have breakfast or brunch if you're in Napa. Cute little spot.

Chocolate Whoopie
Kat

It has been a while since I've gotten a whoopie pie. I got a chocolate and red velvet one. I first got one of these in the early 2010s, when I entered one of their, from what I remember, coloring contests and haven't had one since then. Trying one of these now, I can confidently say that even though these are more expensive (darn inflation!) they are still just as delicious and worth a treat every now and then. Have definitely missed these.

The best apple pie EVER!
Dar R.

Best Dutch apple pies in the area & some fun baked goods for sure, but definitely some of THE worst counter help in the area the past couple years. My husband and I come in here about once a month for coffee and a quick bite. Doesn't matter who is at the counter (male or female) we always have lackluster (depressed, irritated, unengaged) counter help. Of course, then they expect you to tip them 15 to 25%: For what(?) putting something in a bag and handing it to me with a coffee cup (to get my own) & a crappy attitude? Give me a break. It's sad when some of these once-amazing small businesses with high owner engagement at the counter, no longer have the owner engaged at all.

Key Lime Pie
Gene D.

Great selection of decadent whole and sliced pies. The staff there is friendly, the decor cute, and the portions more than fair. It took a lot of restraint to not eat the whole slice of Key Lime pie!

Traditional Birthday Cake
Jim H.

I ordered a cake from here to celebrate Mother's Day and my mom's birthday (a couple of days apart). They were very friendly and helpful when I ordered the week before. They took the time to help me choose the best size for the number of people we were serving to, and were very accommodating with my pickup time because I was traveling in, and you just never know. The cake itself was perfectly decorated and the flavors were all great. The frosting is supposed to be vanilla bean flavored and while we didn't get vanilla bean, it tasted good and certainly not too sweet. I would definitely recommend your cake needs being met at Sweetie Pies!

We tried the banana cream pie and it was delicious! Not too sweet and good proportion of whipped cream to pie

Chicken bacon lettuce tomato cheese sandwich on toasted sour dough bread

Had the Tomato Bisque soup & half sandwich (toasted sour dough, ranch dressing, lettuce, tomato & chicken) It was delightful, something light & refreshing. My 2nd time here. Will be back real soon. YUM

Service was great and our waitstaff were incredibly kind and attentive. I shared the empanada for an appetizer, and it was so delicious! The chimichurri was amazing and it was one of the best empanadas Ive had :) I do wish we got two for the price ($12), but I'm glad I tried it. For my main, I ordered the chilaquiles since I have been craving them. They're not your typical salsa verde chilaquiles, esp w the scrambled egg and lack of salsa verde, but they're still great! I think I prefer a fried egg for my chilaquiles instead of scrambled, but if you are into scrambled eggs and ham, this would be a good option. Overall would come back if I'm in the area! The people are nice, the place is cute, and I enjoyed the food!

And when it finally did arrive, our food was cold, which was disappointing after waiting that long. The bigger issue came when we paid our tab. Our waiter was able to split the bill into three, which we appreciated. One of my friends offered to cover the tip for the entire table on her portion of the bill. The waiter immediately told us that if she did that, the tip would only apply to the portion of the bill she was paying. I understand where the waiter was coming from, but I don't think the waiter understood what we were trying to do -- my friend was offering to cover the tip for the entire table, not just her portion. As each of us paid, the waiter watched us select our tip amount and repeatedly reminded us that we each needed to leave a tip. I understand wanting to make sure a tip is included, but the way it was handled made the situation feel uncomfortable and pressured. I've been to Gracie's Table multiple times and have always enjoyed coming here, so this was disappointing and definitely not my usual experience. Hopefully this was just a one-off, because I've had much better experiences here in the past.

We tried the tacos and tostadas, and everything was absolutely delicious. The margarita was fantastic, and the homemade sparkling wine was such a unique and memorable touch. A special shoutout to Vanessa, who truly went above and beyond. She took the time to share the history of the restaurant and the owners' background, which made the experience feel so personal and meaningful. When she found out we were in Napa celebrating our 10-year anniversary, she offered us their homemade sparkling wine, and it was such a thoughtful gesture that we'll never forget. You can tell there is so much heart, history, and passion behind this restaurant. La Cheva is the kind of place that makes you feel welcomed, appreciated, and excited to come back. Bay Area and had heard plenty of positive reviews, so we were genuinely excited to finally try it. One thoughtful touch is that La Cheve provides umbrellas for guests waiting in line, which is especially appreciated when you're standing outside under the sun. It's a small gesture, but one that shows the restaurant has put some thought into making the waiting experience a little more comfortable. They also offer the option to order coffee through a QR code while waiting in line. I ordered a large black coffee, while my partner ordered a café con leche. Unfortunately, it took about 25 minutes for the drinks to be ready. When we picked them up, the café con leche was served in the same large cup as my coffee--but it was only half full, with roughly a quarter cup of coffee and another quarter consisting of foam. It felt odd drinking from a large half-full cup. Once we reached the counter, though, we were greeted with a warm smile, which was appreciated. We ordered the chilaquiles with an addition of Al Pastor meat, the asada and eggs, the concha French toast, a cronut, the house lager, and a local craft beer. it took approximately an hour and a half from the time we got in line until we were finally seated. By that point, we were more than ready to eat, and despite the long wait, we were still excited to see what the kitchen could do. Unfortunately, that excitement faded quickly once the food arrived. The concha French toast was a big disappointment. The menu description had immediately caught our attention, and we expected something that combined the richness and texture of French toast with the distinctive character of a concha. Instead, we received four small, shortcake-style pieces of bread that were dry and didn't particularly resemble either French toast or a concha. There was no noticeable cinnamon-egg batter, nor any powdered sugar. The dish was served with fresh berries and a side of cajeta ( a craft caramel sauce). The caramel itself was delicious, but it wasn't enough to make up for the lackluster bread. The chilaquiles were the biggest disappointment, and unfortunately, this dish had several execution issues altogether. The tortilla chips were soggy, lacking the texture you'd expect from well-executed chilaquiles. I also ordered the dish with Al Pastor meat, hoping to get a taste of the restaurant's house adobo. Instead, what arrived was a measly portion of tiny pieces and crumbs of meat that appeared to be mostly the remnants from the bottom of the pan. Then there was the oil. There was an excessive amount of it-- so much that a pool had collected in one corner of the plate (see picture below). I actually had to ask the server for extra paper napkins so I could soak up the oil. It was difficult to appreciate the pastor's seasoning or adobo from the oily portion that I was served. The eggs were another example of inconsistency with this plate. I specifically ordered them over medium, expecting set whites with a warm, runny yolk. Instead, the eggs were cooked very unevenly. One was noticeably overcooked, while the other was so thoroughly cooked that the yolk had essentially been obliterated. For a dish that relies on relatively simple ingredients, getting something as fundamental as the eggs right should be a given. My partner's asada and eggs wasn't terrible, per say. However, the dish consisted primarily of bell peppers, a blob of melted cheese, and some asada meat-- the kind you get with regular asada tacos. On the other hand, the biscuits that accompanied the dish, were a genuine highlight. We particularly enjoyed the jalapeño and cheese filling, which gave them a nice savory kick. Thankfully, the bakery items and beer showed us where La Cheve really shines. The house lager was crisp, refreshing, and very enjoyable, while the cronut was downright scrumptious. These were the kinds of items that reminded us why we had been so excited to visit in the first place. Ultimately, La Cheve feels like a restaurant with two very different personalities. The bakery side is impressive, while the savory kitchen needs considerably more attention to execution and consistency. If I were judging the bakery alone, I'd happily give it around 4.5 stars The cronut, biscuits, caramel, and house beer all showed plenty of promise. But the brunch dishes need work--particularly when it comes to texture, portioning, cooking temperatures, and consistency. We came in eager to understand what had generated so much enthusiasm for La Cheve. There are certainly some very good things happening here, and thoughtful touches like the umbrellas for guests waiting in line make a difference. But based on our visit, the kitchen still has some significant kinks to work out before the savory menu matches the promise of the bakery.
