Model Bakery was such a lovely stop. I had a smooth and delicious oat milk matcha latte with just a touch of honey--perfectly balanced and not overly sweet. The ham and cheese croissant was wonderfully flaky, buttery, and satisfying. I enjoyed it all outside on a beautiful morning, which made the experience even better. Between the quality of the food and drinks and the relaxed atmosphere, it's an easy place to linger and enjoy the moment. Definitely worth a visit!

Tasty English muffins

The bakery in Oxbow is ancient and in need of remodeling but the English muffins are still the best. If you want them to hold a bag of 6 or more bags for you, they require 48 hrs notice. The AM of our departure, I called early (they open 6:30 am) and held several bags for pick up. The price has increased to $16.75 for a bag of 6 now. We arrived by 11am, bought my muffins and went home.

Best English muffin - still got it! I came here in 2011 and had to revisit. Dare I say it is perfect - the muffin simply toasted filled with butter and jam. I came back right before the airport and even paid the exorbitant price for a six-pack of the muffins to go. Also very good was the sausage sandwich, which is made with the English muffin. Recommend the white chocolate cookie as well.

I placed an order online for pickup at the Oxbow location. I ordered a blueberry scone, a buttermilk cranberry scone and a macha drink. Everything was ready really quickly. Once home, I heated the scones up. I liked them both but the blueberry won by a nose.

Stopped in for breakfast this morning. As long as you know coming in that you're likely to wait 20-30 mins for a sandwich, you won't be too disappointed. It's also not the least expensive breakfast you'll get, but it's really good. It's a popular place, so it's busy, but you'll be happy once you get your food. As you probably already know by now, they're known for their English muffins, and they're honestly like nothing else you've had before. I had the breakfast sausage sandwich, which I've had before, while my wife had the chipotle breakfast sandwich. Mine came on the English muffin, while hers didn't. And she forget to ask for the English muffin, so she was disappointed when she unwrapped it. Oops. I also had a pumpkin muffin, while she had a Pain Au Chocolat. Both were delicious. I'm sure we'll be back again and will definitely remember the English muffins.

Wondering where you can get a good breakfast and a loaf of bread in Napa? Then here is a place for you! Although a line could be quite long due to its popularity, it is totally worth the wait. First, parking. You can park on a street, public parking lot, or, if you plan to enjoy shopping at the Oxbow Public Market, you can park there. Second - menu. It's pretty long and includes the original and seasonal menus, so it takes a while to figure out. Be patient. Third, seating: all seats are outdoors and can get crowded easily during the weekend and peak hours. The good thing about sitting outside is the fresh Napa air and the service, where the server brings your food and drinks so you don't need to wait inside. Everything on their menu is worth trying. So, when in Napa, make sure to visit.

Best English Muffins ever!!!! It's so fluffy like a croissant, it's like a Cruffin. I like buying these to freeze at home so that I can make breakfast sandwiches with them. They have a cornmeal covered outside so it can get a little messy. A yummy jam goes very well with it as well. I don't go there for anything else because I wasn't impressed by anything else that I have tried. IE- chocolate chip cookies and almond croissant, they were basic.

Wow, I have read about the English muffins here, but the bread on our Cuban sandwich was delicious! Everything you want, crunch on the outside of the bread, soft and bouncy on the inside. I also had the sports tea which was delicious! Not sure what the flavors are I. The tea, but it was very refreshing. We bought a six pack of the English muffins and tried them for breakfast the next morning, now I know what the talk is about, these have that nook and cranny center, but with a thin and crunchy outside. The bread was so good. The staff were fantastic, they were so fast and friendly. The inside is small, but there is seating outside. We are definitely coming back

Small little bakery next to a few other wineries, a short walk to the Napa River and the Napa wine train. Sandwich was soggy even though they'd just prepared it. Tasted ok. Bread was good. Could not taste the chipotle sauce much and there wasn't much bacon in the sandwich either but they had plenty of egg and avocado. It was all slipping out as I was trying to eat it. Interior is quite small. They only have outdoor seating so be prepared for that along with competitive parking. I saw 2 people get very heated over parking as I was sitting and waiting for my food. It started pouring as soon as I got there & the cafe is busy most of the day. Couldn't try their famous English muffins as they'd seem to run out but matcha was pretty decent. I would definitely go back and hope to have a better experience.

We stopped by The Model Bakery on a Saturday after visiting the Oxbow Market, and it was a nice little detour. The place was moderately busy, and inside they have an enormous selection of baked goods, breads, cookies, you name it. It's the kind of place where you walk in for one thing and end up tempted by a dozen others. We initially just went in to grab a couple of cookies and settled on a big chocolate chip and an oatmeal raisin. Both cookies were a good size and totally worth the price (just under three bucks each). The oatmeal raisin in particular was a standout as it was chewy, delicious, and packed with flavor. While we were waiting in line, they brought out some slices of pizza, and they looked so good we couldn't resist grabbing a slice of the spicy meat pizza and the Hawaiian pizza. One bite in and I could tell this pizza was on another level. It was honestly, some of the best pizza I've had in a long time. Overall, it was a great experience. The staff were friendly and helpful, and everything we tried was just delicious. Definitely recommend checking it out if you're in the area!

Arrived around 9am, the line moved at an even pace. Ordered around 9:15am and waiting till 9:30am to get our order. U order inside then wait outside and 2 young gentlemen will call out ur name. Plenty if seating outside but no seating inside. Our breakfast sandwiches u can tell will made with love. My breakfast veggie sandwich was very good, creamy, egg, avocado, tomato, yum. The sausage sandwich was very good as well. Alot of egg and sizable sausage piece. Would recommend to check out for breakfast!

One of our most important stops in Napa. We love the epi bread and baguettes. Very similar to Acme bread go the epi bread but a hint of sour dough flavor. Very delicious baguettes similar to Paris. First time trying the Oprah English muffins, delicious as well. We buy extra bread to freeze. Super busy in the morning buy staff is efficient vs waiting in line at Acme bread in Berkeley

If you're ever in the Napa area and you decide on making a stop other than their famous award-winning wines, do yourself a favor and definitely check out "The Model Bakery". Located in the heart of Napa and adjacent to the very popular Oxbow Public Market at the corner of 1st St & McKinstry St, this place has been in operation since early-2008. It is actually their 2nd location as their original has been in the St. Helena area since the mid-1990's. They have been a favorite for locals and tourists and are known for so many deliciously delectable baked goods. I came here with my lady during the afternoon of Saturday 7/12/2025 at around 12:30pm. Since it was a beautiful and comfortable 73°F day, the entire area was packed with customers. Parking in this area can be very tricky (especially on weekends) so my recommendation would be to use the parking garage (about a 1/2 mile away) or by arriving via-rideshare or public transit. This also runs parallel to the very popular Napa Valley Wine Train as this is one of the major stops for customers to visit. Prior to entry, this place stands out with a classic green awning that represents the business name. Keep in mind that this place is tiny with only a maximum of 10 customers to comfortably fit inside. But once inside, you will soon be drawn to the amazing aroma of freshly baked breads, pastries, and everything in between. Here you will find a vast array of croissants, cookies, muffins, scones, lemon bars, and cakes. As for the breads, they have just about everything you could ever imagine; Focaccia, raisin bread, various baguettes, and so many more options that are available. Additionally, they carry a nice little assortment of coffees and teas (available in hot or iced). But wait, there's more! This place is also a small deli with select sandwiches that include BBQ Pulled Pork, Vegetarian, BLT, chicken, and Cubano as well as salads such as tuna, potato, and Caesar. For this place being as small as it is, their assortment was quite impressive. Finally, I wanted to add that they have a nice outdoor patio area to enjoy your sandwich or to just nibble on some of the amazing fresh-baked goods that you purchase. The hours of operation are equally as impressive as they open their doors (daily) at 6:30am (perfect for the early birds) and close at 4:00pm. With excellent service (the employees all looked genuinely happy), an amazing selection, and delicious baked goods, what's not to like? Therefore, I am giving "The Model Bakery" (in Napa, CA) a perfect and unanimous five star rating.

Ask the Community - The Model Bakery

What are the gluten free options? Thanks

I did not see any option when I was there 3 visits, but you should call the bakery directly!

Will they be sold out of English muffins if you go in the afternoon (after lunch)?

We have gone after lunch and purchased English muffins.

Do you know if the English muffins can be frozen?

I would think yes! I would recommend cutting them in half and freezing them.

Do they have any vegan baked goods yet?

I was just there last weekend to buy baguettes, I didn't see anything vegan. Bakeries aren't the best places for vegan anything. Whole Foods has vegan baked goods. Maybe even Trader Joe's. Good luck!

Unfortunately, my experience fell short in a few meaningful ways. I ordered a lavender coffee latte, which I was really looking forward to, but it lacked flavor and was disappointing enough that I chose not to purchase anything further. That alone might not have stopped me from returning, but what followed did. Knowing European culture, and especially Parisian cafés, are often very dog-friendly, and given Napa's well-known dog-loving atmosphere, I felt comfortable bringing my dog, who is a service animal. I was immediately asked to leave because only service animals are allowed, with the assumption made that my dog was not one. While he is in fact a service animal, the interaction left me feeling unwelcome and uncomfortable. There was no curiosity or neutral clarification... just an assumption and a request to leave. That moment really deflated the excitement I had walking in. Between the coffee experience and feeling unwelcome, I decided not to stay as long as planned or purchase anything further. I'm glad to see that others have had better experiences here, and the pastries certainly look lovely. I suppose those interested should trust other reviewers on that front. The meringue rose like a delicate cloud, lightly sweet, airy, and beautifully toasted, each bite dissolving with just enough structure to remind you of its craft. It danced perfectly between tart citrus and gentle sweetness, leaving you reaching back for another forkful before you even realized it. The crust, often an afterthought in lesser pies, was executed with precision, thin, crisp, and just sturdy enough to support the layers without competing for attention. It framed the experience rather than distracting from it. Yes, it leaned toward the higher end in price, but this was not simply dessert, it was an experience worth every dollar. The table fell quiet in that rare, collective appreciation, followed by the inevitable chorus of "Where did you get this?" A showstopper in every sense, elevated, indulgent, and unforgettable.

This very popular counter service cafe is very popular for good reason. The food is amazing. I am so happy to we chose to go here while visiting Napa for a few days. Also, this place is a great community establishment and helps out the local pet shelter to help find homes for dogs. They even have coloring pages with crayons of adoptable dogs at the Napa shelter. My wife and I ordered two breakfast places and two pastries on our visit. The salmon salad plate was our healthy plate, which was really tasty and fresh. The true standout for me is their pork Belly Loco Moco. I never seem to love a loco moco plate, but I like them. They are typically served with a beef patty. Let me just say that this is a perfect plate of food. The pork belly melts in your mouth and has a delicious hoisin sauce drizzled on it. The eggs and pickled veggies god great with the pork belly, but there is also this wonderful gravy on the plate which is like a chicken gravy. It's so ridiculously good. I can't say enough good things about this plate and how much it works together in balance and harmony. We also tried their toasted Coconut donut, which is a glazed yeast donut with toasted coconut flakes. It was very good! But the dessert standout was the chocolate pistachio muffin. This was so moist, buttery and rich with chocolate and nuttiness. So delicious! I also want to add that I love the ambiance of Winston's and its lovely decor. This is a real gem of a place!
