this place is sooooo cute! when you get there you have to wait in line to place your order and then you wait outside for them to bring you your food and drinks. expect to wait at least 15 minutes if you order a drink, longer if you also get food! i will say the wait is well worth both the food and drinks. today, my family and i ended up getting a banana walnut muffin, two lattes, and the sausage breakfast sandwich. i'm not kidding when i say everything is literally a 10/10. my daughter LOVED the muffin and she is very picky when it comes to muffins. I also tried it and it was really good and moist. me and my husband both really liked our lattes, but i will say if you like your coffee sweet, maybe skip out on it but it was perfect for us! our favorite item was definitely the sausage breakfast sandwich! the home made english muffin with the sauce they put on the sandwich was literally perfection. if you come here, you MUST try the sausage sandwich!! read more

UPDATED (due to owner response [thank you]): I picked up a $13 box containing 4 English muffins (from Whole Foods). Wasn't thrilled to discover they are made with grape seed oil versus EVOO. (I used to love picking these up at the bakery and was so excited when I saw that I could get them in Sonoma, without driving over the hill to Napa.) Can't help but feel disappointed when paying premium for something so anticipated (similar to when Christine's Upper Crust Pies all butter crusts swapped out real butter for canola oil). I CAN tell you definitively their sourdough bread has fabulous, overall, clean ingredients & I will absolutely continue to buy! read more

We ordered a drip coffee, a cappuccino and a croissant to go. The croissant was flaky and buttery. The drip coffee was great and my cappuccino was made well. The wait is quite long to get your coffee and food when they're busy which is quite often. It's worth it though. It was cold outside so be sure to bundle up on those winter days because you have to wait outside for your order. They do have picnic tables and places to wait. The patio is dog-friendly and there were a lot of pooches there. read more

It's bustling for a reason. It's on Oprah's favorite things every year. Just take all my money, Model Bakery! This time I tried their vegan caramel chocolate bar and my gosh is that worth a drive to Napa! Their breakfast sausage sandwich was devoured by my husband. The blueberry muffin was scarfed up by my toddler. Hand squeezed orange juice, too! Just all of it! A must! Don't forget a few bags of the English muffins to go and freeze them or put them in your fridge. Service is friendly and they go as fast as they can. read more

The Model Bakery is mentioned in dozens of articles when you look up best stops in Napa. I think it's a worthy stop, but has its kinks. Maybe it's a Napa thing... is there any sense of urgency in this town? After ordering a single breakfast sandwich, a latte, and a cold brew, it took nearly 15 minutes before anything came out. At least it was hot! The breakfast sandwich was good. The English muffin was what truly shined. Obviously this place knows their pastries. I wish I had gotten more of the pastry options, but alas. A reason to go back! The coffees were also good, but there are many good coffee shops in the area. The cold brew was slightly bitter. There is only outdoor seating here so be ready if it's chilly out in the AM! Overall, I think the Model Bakery is great and I look forward to returning one day for more pastry options. The craziest English muffins I've ever had. I would say they are more of a pastry than true bread. I ordered the breakfast sandwich and a pack of English muffins to go. The absolute best breakfast english muffin sandwich I have ever had. I didn't know english muffins could taste so good. I ate half immediately, then saved the other half for an hour or so later, and it was still just as delicious. There was a line and bit of a wait to receive food, but it was well worth it. If I return to Napa I will definitely be coming back here. read more

The English muffins and breakfast sandwiches are still amazing. The service however was not. The person at the counter got my order wrong and when I said that was the wrong pastry that was being put in the bag she told me no that's what she ordered, when it wasn't. It was too much of a pain with my whole order so I let it go. As I'm waiting outside for my breakfast sandwich I look inside my bag of items and see that I am missing 2 items. I had to go back inside and get the missing items and the staff did not even apologize. I also do like that there were flyers landing on the pastries. The atmosphere is still very relaxed outside so you can sit and enjoy your food. read more

We decided to stop by Model Bakery while spending the day in Napa! At around 10:30 AM on a Sunday, there was already a sizable line outside. We went with the Bearclaw ($5), which was tasty but a little on the dry side. I wish we had sampled more, especially their famous English Muffins or a loaf of sourdough, but we'll save that for next time. Definitely worth a stop for some freshly baked goods! read more

The model bakery is such a cute bakery. It's right around the corner from the public market. I really like the fact that they have a seating area right outside the bakery. The inside is a cute little bakery and as you walk in, everything smells so good that fresh smell of baked goods. We picked up the honey bun and the lemon poppy. Both were really good and I wanted to purchase more baked goods, but I was on my way to lunch. We have to pick up more baked goods next time we're in Napa. The line went pretty quick. Just behind Gott's roadside restaurant, you'll discover these small bakery and charcuterie shops. There are quite a few other boutique and food specialty shops in the area as well. This is a business where you either get it to go, or you dine outside, no seating inside. They have a very extensive list of baked goods and a coffee bar. I got the croissandwich which was well made and a cup a coffee. The only things I noticed that were disappointing were their small muffins for $4.25 and some of the pastries had coarse sugar dumped all over them. Unfortunately, the medium roast coffee I had was substandard like cheap hotel coffee. I would be remiss if I didn't also point out the other breakfast opportunities just around the corner (and better coffee) in the Oxbow market such as Loveski deli. I found this spot on TikTok while looking for brunch ideas in Napa, and it did not disappoint! The food was absolutely amazing. We got their sausage and egg sandwich and "model" wrap, which came on a spinach tortilla. Both were incredible, and the breakfast sandwich was on a homemade English muffin -- honestly, I'll probably be dreaming about it for months because it was that good. You order inside, and they bring your food out. The seating is all outside in a cute little area in downtown Napa. Parking can be a bit tricky, but the food is well worth it. read more

This place is to die for! I mean just thinking about how good this place is has my mouth watering. I went here with my friend who highly recommended because apparently it was on "Oprah's favorite list". We gave it a shot and loved it! I got a Sausage sandwich I think that's the name and omg! 3.5 for us for this location. We tried the St. Helena location the day prior and felt like the croissant-which (with added avocado for me) was done better the previous day. My friend had the mushroom lovers sandwich which was pretty good but I do think the croissant-which was better. We also tried the chocolate chip walnut cookies which were decent and the ginger molasses cookies which were very good. I think next time I would get a plain chocolate chip instead which our whole group agreed with. Overall good breakfast for the Napa valley area, but definitely plan on waiting 25-30+ minutes for your food read more

Caveat to say that I didn't actually go into the bakery... My husband and I stayed at Meadowood over the weekend and they have The Model Bakery english muffin on their breakfast menu. I had heart about it on reddit so I made sure to order it our first morning and boy did it live up to the hype! In my opinion it doesn't need butter or jam or anything slathered on it. Making this review exclusively on the English muffins. Read several reviews that mention them so bought a bag of six to take home. Unfortunately, it was very different than a traditional English muffin and had tons of butter in it. When I heated it up in the oven, lots of butter melted out. It tasted more like a higher end bun for a burger than an English muffin. Would like to do a different visit and try something else here. read more

The Model Bakery was recommended to us by a local couple whom we met on our hot air balloon ride over Napa Valley. She particularly raved about the English muffins. I'm not big on English muffins, but I was intrigued to try other things. My husband and I walked over to The Model Bakery around 8am. It was busy, but we made it just in time before the ordering queue snaked out the door. We ordered several things including a French baguette, olive bread, regular croissant, spinach and cheese croissant, white chocolate hazelnut cookie, and cinnamon raisin bread. I tried the spinach croissant and white chocolate hazelnut cookie, which were great. I had a slice of the olive bread with breakfast I made at home a couple of days later, and it still tasted pretty fresh. Minus one star because we realized after we got back to our hotel that we didn't get our cinnamon raisin bread. As much as our server was very sweet and friendly, she was forgetful. Not only did she forget our cinnamon raisin bread (also our bad for not checking if we had all our items), but she almost packed us a pain au chocolat instead of a regular croissant. read more

Stopped into Model Bakery for a breakfast sandwich! They offer everything from sweet treats, baked goods, coffee, tea and breakfast sandwiches. I got The Original but subbed the canadian bacon for applewood smoked bacon and my husband got the Sausage Sandwich. An absolute must try when you are in Napa k, but show up early if you want their famous English muffins!! We were there around 8:45AM and went on the line that was all way outside the store, probably 10-12 people in front of us. I was able to order the pack of 6 English muffins all by with a croissant and a morning glory bun. By the time we went outside waiting for our drinks, the SOLD OUT OF ENGLISH MUFFINS sign went up. I felt like hitting the jackpot!! The experience was amazing and everything tasted amazing. The only complaint I have was one of the baristas was extremely grouchy and rude, which didn't make it a % pleasant experience. We were going on the wine trolley tour that day (a Sunday morning) so thought we'd get breakfast here beforehand and walk over to the trolley. GET THERE EARLY and allot more time than you think you need. There was a line out the door when we got there around 8:30 am. It took 15-20 minutes to get to the counter and another 20-25 minutes to get our food. There's no indoor seating but there are some outdoor tables you can sit at while you wait if there's any open seating. Doesn't seem like a place people stay after getting their food. It's a little odd, instead of getting a buzzer to let you know when your food is ready someone comes out with the food and calls names which seems a bit inefficient. However, service was friendly, it was a lively place when we were there. The croissant sandwiches we got were very good although a bit pricey in my opinion. read more

Our original location is in downtown St. Helena, where our artisan bakers still use original brick ovens built by Italian masons in the early 1920's. Our new bakery and storefront is located at the Oxbow Public Market in downtown Napa. We specialize in artisan breads made with organic stone ground flour and the highest quality ingredients. Twice daily our bakes include sourdough, pain levain, sweet french baguettes, toasted walnut bread, or harvest fruit levain. The Model Bakery is a family owned business, run by mother/ daughter team Karen and Sarah Mitchell "Our levain starter, used to start the fermentation in our bread dough, is made from wine grapes from our family's sustainably farmed vineyard. " In addition to a full breakfast and lunch menu, we offer a full line of baked pastries; scones and muffins, filled croissants, morning buns, pain au chocolate. We also have plenty of cakes, pies and desserts!

Meet the Business Owner: Sarah M.

Sarah Mitchell has been an owner of The Model Bakery since 2001. She moved back to the Napa Valley to help run the business with her mother, Karen, who started the business in 1984. Sarah has a degree in politics and Spanish from UC Santa Cruz, and spent several years working in corporate sales - Xerox, Canon and Oracle in the Bay Area. Sarah was tiring of the corporate culture and saw an opportunity to return to the Napa Valley and take over the family business. Sarah has helped grow the wholesale bread business to over 50 accounts in the Napa Valley we deliver to daily!

I was just there last weekend to buy baguettes, I didn't see anything vegan. Bakeries aren't the best places for vegan anything. Whole Foods has vegan baked goods. Maybe even Trader Joe's. Good luck!

While he is in fact a service animal, the interaction left me feeling unwelcome and uncomfortable. There was no curiosity or neutral clarification... just an assumption and a request to leave. That moment really deflated the excitement I had walking in. Between the coffee experience and feeling unwelcome, I decided not to stay as long as planned or purchase anything further. I'm glad to see that others have had better experiences here, and the pastries certainly look lovely. I suppose those interested should trust other reviewers on that front. Unfortunately, based on my experience, I won't be returning.

The true standout for me is their pork Belly Loco Moco. I never seem to love a loco moco plate, but I like them. They are typically served with a beef patty. Let me just say that this is a perfect plate of food. The pork belly melts in your mouth and has a delicious hoisin sauce drizzled on it. The eggs and pickled veggies god great with the pork belly, but there is also this wonderful gravy on the plate which is like a chicken gravy. It's so ridiculously good. I can't say enough good things about this plate and how much it works together in balance and harmony. We also tried their toasted Coconut donut, which is a glazed yeast donut with toasted coconut flakes. It was very good! But the dessert standout was the chocolate pistachio muffin. The potatoes also tasted like they had been fried multiple times, possibly to reheat, which left them with an off flavor.

Since most things are weighed per pound, you have to ask for specific things and they will then get it for you. They had a number of beans from Rancho Gordo. I found out about the pickled vegetables from a Rancho Gordo email stating that theirs was the best. They had a small container for $10 in the fridge by the pound. They had a number of gourmet sandwiches that you can't find anywhere else. My husband loves porchetta sandwiches from Sausalito at the Joinery. That's why we had to come here when we found out that they had porchetta sandwiches freshly made. They also sell raw porchetta and porchetta shoulder for 16 and 10 respectively. We opted to buy the cooked porchetta for $20 a pound. The staff member instructed us to bake it at 250° in the loosely wrapped foil for 15 minutes to freshen it up. I'll give an update after we eat it. :)
