This was my second time at Flour Chylde. First I'm thankful for any business that provides gluten free, & dairy free products. I checked their website first to avoid disappointments. Im super impressed that the ingredients were listed on each of the baked goods. As someone with multiple food sensitivities this is SO appreciated. I tried multiple items since I don't live close by. The shortbread / iced heart cookie was beautiful in presentation & taste. Crispy and delicious. I also ordered the meatloaf Sami. Very tasty & the bread was very moist. My family enjoyed sharing the chocolate stout cup cake. Wow! So moist and delicious. Lastly the coffee cake. I'm saving that one for later- and hope it's as good as I remembered. Clean & neat establishment, and helpful staff. They were able to answer each of my questions to help me avoid certain ingredients. Every time I go I'm slightly disappointed. My family member has celiac and it's the only gluten free bakery within 10 miles so I have to go. Portions are tiny and very expensive while baked goods are incredibly dense. Do yourself a favor and check out flour craft in Mill Valley and As Quoted in SF. read more

I absolutely LOVE this spot! I have celiac so it's very exciting that Marin has a gluten free bakery like this one. Alongside pastries and cakes, they also sell flour, pastas, bread, premade meals, kits and so much more. Their carrot cake is to die for and I always order one of their little mini ones every time I come here. I've even had their carrot cake as my birthday cake for the last couple years. It's THAT good. Everything here is made so well. Today I tried the chicken Waldorf sandwich and it was amazing. The bread was very fluffy and moist-- something that's hard to do with gluten free baking. I have tried this place on a few occasions and it doesn't compare to the GF bakery I've tried back home in Reno. The presentation and prices are comparable but the flavor is lacking. They could do soooo much better if they just tasted their goods before putting them out. Just because things are GF/DF doesn't mean they have to lack in taste. From what I have had, there seems to be more saltiness vs sweetness and overall has been dry (Carrotcake muffin, chocolate muffin, cookies). I have the waffle/pancake mix and I really have to add moisture to it before I try putting it in my waffle maker! Otherwise, nice effort for a bakery but definitely hoping they can do something about the texture and flavor. read more

New to the area, we decided to grab a snack and stumbled upon this bakery. There are a lot of parking spaces for free; we came late in the afternoon so crowd wasn't as much. We ordered an americano, it was my mistake to assume that it was going to be served cold so when I got the order, I apologized and asked for ice and the register gave me ice in a bowl for me to fish out. The awareness, the care that goes into the product here is incredible. The sourdough bread they make is very difficult to differentiate between gluten free and regular. I don't make a habit of eating gluten-free products. To me, they are just not as good as something with flour. I stopped by here to get something for my girlfriend who is gluten-free. She is trying to avoid desserts so I only bought a sourdough baguette. We ate it with our dinner that night. It was amazingly good - especially with some butter. I consider that very high praise. Tried to find a bakery in Novato where I could purchase some desserts for a family event and I got the Torte Mini Bite - 12 pack. It was a hit! Some of the best gluten free desserts I've had. It was great to find this bakery in Downtown Novato. It was very unassuming when passing by and had a really minimal and cute interior. I bought a chocolate cake and ginger snaps just to try something I thought I was for sure to like and I would say that Flourchylde surpassed my expectations. I'm not someone who usually enjoys gluten free items. So when I tried the chocolate cake I wasn't expecting for it to have a nice crunch on the outside and be especially moist on the inside and still have a really nice crunch on the outside. Though what gave it away as gluten free was how easily the pastries crumbled. I liked how simple and refreshing the cake was. It was hearty though not heavy. The gingersnaps especially had a nice deep flavor and had a nice spice to it which I really like in a gingersnap. I was looking for a little bit and the staff was patient with me. OMG. This is Gluten free HEAVEN! I found out about this place because my husband bought a carrot cake for my birthday (he also bought a regular cake at Susie's cakes) and even the non gluten free people loved the GF carrot cake better than Susie's (and if you have tried Susie's cakes, you know they are top top top cakes ) but in all seriousness, the cake was UNBELIEVABLY moist, and so delicious. If I didn't know this was gluten free I wouldn't have guessed) After the birthday success, I needed to go to the bakery myself and see what damaged I could do. And we'll, I ended up ordering a sandwich that was delicious, a scone with bacon that was to die for (I still think about it) and a couple of other items and they were ALL delicious. The lady working there was super nice and had great recommendations. It's a cute little place and they have tables in case you want to eat there. I personally don't have any food allergies but this bakery is delicious! They are 100% gluten free and have a variety of vegan, dairy free, nut free and low sugar options. Located downtown with plenty of street parking. The place is a good size, clean, quiet and super cute! I arrived right when they opened and was immediately greeted even though there were already two customers ahead of me. There was only one employee at the time of my visit and she was extremely communicative and friendly. Although she was busy with the other customers she said she would "be right with me" or "it will be just a few minutes" and I told her to take her time! This gave me an opportunity to look around to see what they offered. They sell locally sourced items such as olive oil, mustards, savory jams, and vinegar which is on a rack off to the side. They have a section of day old baked goods that were half off which I couldn't pass up. I grabbed a mini cinnamon roll! On another rack, they sell granola, flour, croutons and waffle mix in individual resealable bags. Behind the counter, on shelves they sold a variety of breads: multigrain pumpkin loaves, sourdough baguettes and bagels. In their display case were the true gems! There were two display cases. They have tortes, cookies, cakes, scones, muffins and bars. One case had the larger cakes and the other has the smaller items. I ordered tortes: 3" pure chocolate, carrot, rapture, and pumpkin, and a small coffee to go. I sat outside where there were tables and chairs, and a bench. It was peaceful. Coffee was just ok, but the tortes were so good, and moist! My favorites were the pumpkin torte, super moist, a bit of crunch on the outside and soft on the inside with a touch of sweetness from the icing. I also just love pumpkin! I also loved the pure chocolate torte which was also a great texture and not too sweet which I very much enjoyed. I am definitely coming back to try their other flavored tortes, cookies and cookie dough! This is such a great place! read more

I'm going to be honest: I love gluten. I eat it all the time; when I don't have it, I miss it. That being said, I love Flour Chylde Bakery's gluten free goods. If all gluten free foods were as good as those from Flour Chylde, then I would convert in a heartbeat. I first discovered this bakery at a Los Gatos Farmers Market and bought a pure chocolate torte. The chocolate popped in my mouth! After eating this, I went back and bought a mini-bite sampler (if they are small, I can eat more, right?). I was pleased to find out that their bakery is in Novato. Since my parents live in San Rafael, it's not too far out of my way to buy more treats when visiting my folks. My favorites are the lemon coconut torte, the coffee cake, and the linzer torte. What makes this bakery stand out from other bakeries is it's variety of baked goods that meet specific people's dietary needs (i.e. nut-free, gluten-free...etc.). It's so hard to find carb-based treats that can meet and respect the food allergies of others. I have tons of friends with kids who are sensitive to gluten and I never have to worry about picking up something from here that is both delicious and respectful to their allergies. I went here recently to pick their coffee cake (divine!) and some ginger snap cookies. I love that there's the option to order online and pick up there or have delivered. Or you can just go in and pick up some items. I always forget they offer sandwiches, too, save for when I walk in there to get a pick up order. Like their desserts, you can get bread that fits your dietary needs, too. I've never had a bad order and my visit this time was the same. Everything is exquisitely scrumptious. Lovely, bright, sparkling clean store with friendly customer service. The tahini chocolate chip cookie I had was good. I do have to admit that I'm a gluten eater and I still think gluten-included baked goods are better. But, for gluten free desserts, this is a great option! I also bought a few lattes and they were surprisingly good--usually espresso from a bakery is a disappointment since it's obviously not the draw, just an extra. The downtown location is convenient for a quick stop-in. While I miss the old school East Coast Italian bakeries, this gluten-free bakery is much more suited to most Bay Area tastes. read more
