I used to think American chocolate was good, until I lived in Europe.. now even in stores like this I can hardly stomach the stuff. If you are going to do this ..go to Belgium and see what real chocolate tastes like, not the garbage with fake sugar etc. I always try them, holding out hope.. usually there are one or two tasty pieces.. not here.. these are the worst chocolate.. kind of like the current Godiva. This was my first time at this cute little chocolate shop and goodness was it ever so quaint and adorable!! The two ladies inside were very knowledgeable and helpful within chocolate pairings, and they did say that the store is kept out of particular degrees so nothing melts! They have cute little boxes that one can get, I think the smallest box was seven chocolates for about $20 or about two dollars apiece. Stumbled into this place after I had already stopped in at a different chocolate place (unfortunately), and boy is this place amazing! Gorgeous artisanal chocolates, and they all look so beautiful that I had a hard time deciding. If I hadn't stopped in elsewhere before, I would have bought way more! What I tried: boysenberry with honey and pomegranate with honey, as well as an orange truffle and sour cherry chocolate. These were amazing. We ducked into this shop midday on a Sunday. The lady working behind the counter was so kind and gave great recommendations! We ended up purchasing the rocky road chocolate. Quite possibly the best truffles I have ever tasted! We stopped in Wine Country Chocolates as part of the Sonoma food tour, where we were given any 1 truffle of our choice to try. With such a wide array, and multiple wine infused truffles, picking just 1 was not an easy feat. I settled on the champagne truffle and let's just say there were fireworks in my mouth! The truffles were so good we decided we needed to take a box to go - so we settled on a build your own 12-pack, which was $24, a great deal if you ask me - especially for the Bay Area. Other truffles we tried through our take home box were the Zinfandel, cabernet, port, Kahlua Irish Creme, Amaretto, and Cacao Nib among others. My personal top two were the champagne and zin, while my mom was a big fan of the Amaretto and Kahlua Irish Creme. The shop is tucked away in a courtyard off the main street, so you won't just come across it unless you're looking for it....which you definitely should do! Can't wait to stop here next time I visit Sonoma! read more

Cute little chocolatier at the end of one of the side alleys around the old Sonoma City Hall area. This store is right across the alley from the Razzle Dazzle Boutique that brought us down this way in the first place. Now I am not usually a fan of these types of stores since I can be happy with a Hersey bar, but this one was good. They have a nice selection of chocolate covered flavors (ie...mint, red velvet, peanut butter, etc) and a number of ways to enjoy. We bought their 7 flavor strip...you pay the same ($14) for any selection of 7 items. Select any 7 and you get a strip packaging them together...easy peasy. Give this place a try. Wine Country Chocolates are both beautiful and delicious! We celebrated our 17th Anniversary a few days early knowing we are unlikely to be able to publicly dine or enjoy our annual dual New Years Eve celebration. So we socially distanced ourselves by visiting this cozy shop located off Sonoma Square in Sonoma County wine country as a way to support the local economy and local vendors. The Wine Country Chocolate folks were very friendly and inviting as we entered the store. It was a great display of gourmet chocolate from wall to wall without being overwhelming to us. We of had to a variety of beautiful "art crafted" designs and flavors from hazelnuts to cappuccino to apricot to cherry and caramel. Later that evening we enjoyed our Wine Country Chocolates "treasures" with a nice bottle of wine to make for a prefect pairing! We highly recommend seeking out this neighborhood gem next time your are visiting Sonoma County from around the corner or across the globe when it is safe to travel. read more

Found this little chocolate shop while trying to escape the heat from walking around. The lady working there was very kind. She gave us some recommendations and all of them tasted delicious! This place is small, but offers variety. For a chocolate shop, it is not very inviting. It is dark and has a sad ambiance. But we love trying local handcrafted shops, so we gave it a go! We were greeted by a nice lady (there were only two employees). We got a 7 pieces box. We liked the chocolates in general. The presentation was very minimalistic and the shells lacked the sheen of a perfectly tempered chocolate. They were just "okay", mostly because the fillings could use more flavor depth. We could not taste the main ingredient on most of them. On the ones we did, it was very subtle. The apricot truffle was the only one we really tasted the main ingredient. Probably because it have a piece of dried apricot. Not memorable. But not bad either. A most try when visiting the area. But I am not sure if I will return. read more

While walking around Sonoma Square with some friends, I saw a sign that says "Chocolate tasting ". Who doesn't want to taste chocolate? So we walked down a small alley way and found a charming chocolate shop. They were offering a taste of Pumpkin Pie chocolate sauce. While looking at the nice selection of chocolates I knew everyone would need a treat. They very nice ladies in the shop assisted us with our requests. I had the coconut and a couple of friends wanted the raspberry and amaretto. Everyone enjoyed their treat. It was $2 a piece which seems the standard price for good chocolate. We stopped by this recommended shop while on a Wine Country tour from San Francisco. The "free chocolate tasting" sign got me from the start! Yes, the different levels of chocolate was smooth and delicious! I purchased the Dark Chocolate Almond Bark, and Sesame Ginger Bar as gifts (for my daughters and me!). I just finished eating my last piece of the Almond Bark. I'm so sad I don't have more! It was smooth and not bitter. My daughter loved the ginger in her chocolate. Good flavor but not overwhelming. When someone mentions "Sonoma Valley," most people will think wine tasting. Which is great, but what can be even better than wine tasting? Wine infused chocolate tasting! As we were walking through Sonoma Plaza when we spotted a lovely sign that said "Chocolate Tasting." They had a counter set up for the chocolate tasting to the left side of the store, and they had Port Ganache and also chocolate with different cacao contents in a jar for customers to taste. Port Ganache is one of their truffle filling, and without the chocolate coating, you can really taste the port wine in the chocolate. It was rich, creamy and decadent. They sell lots of pretty looking truffles you can buy after the tasting. Each chocolate was created with care, and very pretty! I visited this location on a hot hot day in Sonoma for a small reprieve from the heat. I was greeted with ganache samples and nice staff. I didn't get a photo of my selections but they are very visually appealing and artistic. The flavors were great and I will definitely visit this little shop again. The chocolate was good. I wasn't blown away by any of it, but there wasn't really anything wrong with the chocolate or fillings. My main issue was that the bottoms of the truffles were all too thin! The tops and sides were thick, so then the bottom would crack and splinter when biting into it. If they had more even proportions of the chocolate I might go 5 stars. read more

"Chocolate Tasting Room" in Sonoma This little shop on Sonoma Plaza was very charming and friendly. Upon walking in, we quickly notice the delicious display of truffles. Y U M. But it was definitely the free chocolate tastings that made my mouth water. The samples for the day were Champagne and Hazelnut. Great combination. So glad we were there on that particular day. I was however, expecting a bit more chocolate options giving the fact that this place is called Wine Country Chocolates. Along with the chocolate truffles, there was samplings of local olive oils and vinaigrettes with bread. I just love free samples, the Sonomic brand Cabernet Balsamic vinaigrette was to die for. For 18 bucks a bottle, it was a bit steep, but I have no problems supporting local products. Furthermore, they also has a variety of jams, cooking sauces, and Wine flavored brittle. Everything seemed so y u m m y. Great little local shop, but aside from the truffle counter, there wasn't really much else resembling chocolate. I never actually buy anything from this place, I just bring my friends in for a taste. The chocolate is alright but having traveled throughout Europe (especially Belgium) so I have developed a little higher standard to my chocolate. My friend and I stopped by this place as during our lunch break while we were on a wine tour. The store was a little small and has limited selection but lady there was nice, helpful. She genuinely invited everyone to come in and taste some chocolate samples for free (there was no pressure to buy anything) . I tried chocolates with 30%, 60% and 70% cocao and a small dollop of chocolate ganache. I ended up buying bought chocolate-dipped fig and sour cherry chocolate barks (each was $7).
