The sandwiches here are fabulous with fresh homemade rolls. The pizzas are great also. No matter what we've ordered it's always been delicious and served quickly, even when they are busy. So why not 5 stars you ask? Today's visit was the reason why. They recently hired a young lady who needs an attitude adjustment, besides having a mop of hair that resembles the shaggy dog (hairnet?). I requested a BLT with crispy bacon. For some reason she had to check the menu and then wrote down Well Done. Any bacon aficionado knows there is a difference between Crispy and Well Done, the latter being almost burnt. When I tried to explain this to her she slammed down the pen and shoved the pad to the young woman beside her. The second person changed it to Crispy and pleasantly took the remainder of my order. You know how you go to a restaurant and GF options are presented as a GF "menu?" This place has a 2-page true GF menu, which includes entrees complete with sauces, a variety of desserts, and even appetizers! The soups were both GF and one was a pasta soup that the non-GF patrons were eating unaware! That should make a statement for the food right there! In addition to the superb food and variety of options, I could eat with peace of mind. When I called, they provided confident and intelligent answers to my food preparation questions. They even volunteered information, such as knowing to boil the GF pastas separately. (Seems like common sense, but if you are GF, you realize people sometimes lose a bit of sense when attempting GF! Not this place!!!) When the GF dishes arrive at the table, there are even paper tags laid on the plate to certify to you once again that the chef understood your need for GF and was cognizant of that fact during preparation. It was so nice not to have those doubts lingering in the back of my mind. Oh! And you know how we normally get to sit and watch the non-GF eat their Italian bread dipped in olive oil and herbs? We ate dinner at Piazza Sorrento on a Friday night. We arrived around 8:00 and we were seated right away. The menu items looked great, but we ultimately found ourselves underwhelmed by all of our meals. The salad was served on a warm plate (one of our pet peeves). My son and husband had the Italian platter (chicken parm, lasagna, and fettuccine alfredo). They both agreed that the chicken parm flavor was pretty good, but had too heavy of a layer of cheese on it. They also said that the lasagna was just "ok" and that the alfredo was very bland. (I tasted the alfredo and it was indeed VERY bland). I ordered the Calamari appetizer as my meal and I had to send it back because it was under seasoned and overcooked. The server was understanding, friendly, and accommodating (service alone would have been 4 stars) and she offered to get me something else, but I really wasn't into eating anything else at that point. Piazza Sorrento is absolutely my favorite, favorite restaurant in Hershey!! Even now I'm down to the South, every time I go back to Pennsylvania I will go for Piazza and order their Lobster Ravioli. This place is owned by a couple from Italy, and their recipes are truly unique and authentic. It's good for lunch because of lower price, fewer customers, and smaller portion. Service used to be really good, but lately I felt the service had become slower. Definitely go for Lobster Ravioli, my favorite dish with shrimp and creamy sauce. Also, don't forget to ask their freshly baked bread with olive oil!! Their daily soup is pretty good, if they have clam/seafood soup on the day, pleeeeeeease ask for that! Their desserts are just amazing. Even you are super full, you just can't run away from them. Piazza Sorrento has become one of the reasons that I just can't leave Hershey, Pennsylvania. GREAT pizza. Had a glitch where our order was misplaced. Clerk was defensive and not helpful " we got slammed". After 2 attempts with the clerk, we asked for the manager, got our pizza in 10 minutes which was comped and a piece of cake thrown in. Lemon blueberry mascarpone cake was very good. I am from Texas and stopped here for dinner after visiting the Hershey park, and let me tell you this was some of the best food and the service was phenomenal. We had a large party and unlike most restaurants who serve big parties,where half the food comes out cold, all 15 meals came out hot and quickly! I was very disappointed with this restaurant. Very unprofessional blonde female manager. I sat down with my family (4 of us) and ordered 4 entrees. Then asked for a slice of pizza for my 6 year old son as an appetizer. She refused to give me the slice and said they don't serve slices after 4pm. The restaurant was closing in 40 minutes. The Italian Sampler had: Lasagna was very good and exactly what I look for when I order lasagna. I would recommend and definitely just order this as my meal if I return. 5 stars Fettuccini Alfredo was very thick but not as rich as I am used to with an alfredo. 3 stars Chicken Parmesan was good but nothing special. If you love chicken parm go ahead and order but if it is not already a favorite I would not recommend. 3.5 stars Service was really good and they did not have any seats available but still got us a private table by the bar. Don't let the gas station strip mall exterior fool you, the interior is quite cozy and smells amazing! With bread, pizza crust and pasta made from scratch on-site by the legit-from-Italy owners, you can't go wrong. Hubby ordered the grilled gnocchi which came in amazing cream sauce with their authentic Sicilian sausage - delicious! I had a seasonal special: butternut squash ravioli with pancetta and figs in a frangelico cream sauce. A little sweet but so good -- I finished the entire thing even though I should have stopped much sooner! For dessert, we tried the chocolate layer cake. Wow. The last time we were here, I wasn't thrilled with the food or service. The hostess always looks as though she would rather do anything but seat you. This time the hostess again looked grumpy but our server was terrific. I wish I could remember his name but he just graduated from Penn State in marketing. He's friendly and attentive and should go far in life. We ordered a Caesar salad to split and asked for anchovies because the last time it came without. There was a $.75 upcharge which is okay. My lasagna was the best I've had for awhile and my husband liked the sausage and peppers. The blueberry cheesecake was also delicious. We'll be back. read more

We often plan a 2-day trip to Hershey once a year to visit Hershey Park. We always make plans to dine at a nice restaurant each evening while we are there. We make reservations for Sorrento this trip - having been there before and having a great meal. This visit was no different - excellent friendly service, and deliciously prepared authentic American Italian food. I asked the chef to step away from the menu ingredients in my entree which he did nicely with great skill for me. My entree was just wonderful. The hostess and especially the waitress were wonderful! My only complaint this visit was that their A/C seemed to be struggling a bit in its' attempt to keep the place cool - they indicated that they were working on a fix for that. For the 2 of us, we each had 2 beers, an appetizer, 2 entrees and a dessert for about $90.00. Good food, nice people, excellent cost - a good choice if you are visiting Hershey and looking for a great place for italian food. read more

My review is solely on the pizza: I've only picked up pizza at Sorrento. My boyfriend loves Sorrento, so I decided to give it a try. (His aware of my love for pizza).! We have only ordered the meat lovers pizza: I honesty fell in love. Detailed oriented which makes the experience amazing. Detailed oriented you may wonder, they shave down the sausage and it makes a huge difference. Why the difference? You know when you have the "rolled up sausage" that looks like beef.. sometimes it comes with fragments that are crunchy; well once you shave the sausage you prevent that issue. The pizza is filled with ham, beef, shaved sausage, pepperoni, the sauce is exquisite, and the pizza dough is good. (I was going to deduct a star because I usually like my pizza dough well cooked, but realized that's a personal preference). read more

Having got stuck without a place to eat the night of arrival at the Hershey Lodge due to the crazy amount of people staying for winter break, we quickly searched Yelp & Opentable for a place in the area to eat for a 6pm reservation. Luckily we found Piazza had a 6:15 res and found it less than a mile down the road from our hotel. The ambiance was warm and cozy and I knew we were in good hands when I heard what looked like one of the owners speaking in Italian to the hostess. Homemade pasta & the fact it was a scratch kitchen was a welcome surprise. I had the lobster ravioli, the wife had chicken piccata and my 3 yr old had spaghetti & meatballs off the kids menu. The ravioli was made with fresh lobster and made in a creamy sauce with shrimp and pancetta. While very rich it was absolutely delicious. My wife's chicken piccata came served over risotto and she also loved it. My daughter almost finished her spaghetti but not before I could steal a bite and the red sauce was great. The fresh homemade rolls are great for dipping too! Prices were reasonable and there were a decent number of wines by the glass, including a really solid Pinot Noir. Half of my relatives have celiac disease, so this place is a godsend in central Pennsylvania. They have two kitchens and have an entire menu for gluten-free folks. The gluten people got some lasagna, penne and sausage, and pizza and they were all really good. Okay, so the food is okay, the service and atmosphere are great - I'll give them that. But PLEASE ask the price of the special before ordering! My wife had the butternut squash ravioli's and it was $28!!! First the portion was literally the size of an appetizer, second it came with absolutely nothing else, not even a side salad. It was such a rip off and we felt taken... then again we should've asked but come on, who would expect $28 for a little bowl of raviolis! I had the salmon on the risotto - salmon was over cooked and dried out. Look, I really don't think they're a bad business and the people working there are all very nice and welcoming. It's also a clean establishment which means a lot to us. Unfortunately we had a disappointing 10th Anniversary dinner - which we didn't even get a free piece of cake?!? It was crisp on outside and cream filling in the inside. Very good. For dinner, I ate the salmon, it was perfectly cooked under a bed of spinach and rice. So we made a reservation. We got there to find out we couldn't order Pizzas on the restaurant side. So we got up to go to the pizzeria side. We ordered our pizzas and ordered a gluten free meal for my child but then were told that she couldn't eat that on the Pizza side. It was only for take out or the dining room. WHAT?? So we said ok we'll take it out to our hotel room. But now it was going to be a 35 minute wait.Really?? They did get it to us sooner. But the after all that the food-was just ok- and the Vodka Sauce on the gluten free pasta tasted like it was made with Campbell's cream soup. Very disappointing experience overall. read more

NEVER again! Sal was the rudest waiter we've ever had. Dinner came out with our apps. My dinner was cold by the time we finished our salads and apps. There was no room on the table. 2 items were wrong - not what we ordered and he said "whatever" had walked away. Then told us we could keep it for free. Other people at nearby tables made comments to us about how rude he was. We didn't want him to think that was what we were trying to do,so we politely declined. Took our two sons there for dinner and all 4 of us made the best of what was the worst dinner and service we've ever had. We've been there a few times this year but we will never go back. They were obviously uncaring if we took the tiny table or not. Our service was good. The food was just average and ultimately forgettable. I had veal parmigiana. Reliably good Italian food. I'm Italian, my grandparents owned Italian restaurants, and I'm picky. There are a few things I wouldn't order here (or have tried and would not order again) but in general most of what we have tried here is very good, well-prepared, and on point for Italian cuisine. The chicken piccata is a favorite, though I order it with extra sauce. They make great pizza, and their homemade, handmade papardelle with Bolognese is awesome. Their panna cotta is excellent. I took a group that included some gluten-sensitive folks to Piazza for dinner. They were very excited about the gluten-free menu and loved their food -- a big win for an Italian menu. read more

Probably the freshest, most uniquely delicious Italian food in the area. The fact that they have an entire gluten-free menu for my girlfriend is a grateful addition (plus they serve gluten-free rolls that my girlfriend says are delicious!). The fried calamari is wonderfully crispy and the spicy marinara dip was enjoyed by my belly. The last time, I had the grilled gnocchi with duck and my goodness, was it beautifully prepared! The sear marks on the gnocchi with that slightly crispy bite into the warm, moist interior backed up by the tender duck (and not greasy) was a first for me, and a wonderful one at that. Salads are crisp and large, and even the bread is fantastic! The gluten-free roll itself was airy, which is rare for non-leavening bread. Gluten free diners beware! My daughter and I both had the same dish (ravioli) - hers was regular and mine was gluten free. My daughter complained that hers tasted bad and halfway through mine, I realized (for obvious reasons, i.e., bathroom) that mine couldn't possibly be gluten free.
