This place has a beautiful atmosphere and a great indoor and outdoor patio. I loved that the patio is covered from the direct sun while still giving you that beachside feel. It's also very close to the beach, which makes it a great spot to relax and enjoy a meal. My first impression wasn't the best because the male host who greeted us seemed very low energy and uninterested in helping us. His tone felt off, and I honestly thought we were going to receive poor service because of that interaction. Thankfully, everything changed once we met our waiter. He was fantastic and completely turned the experience around. His recommendations were spot on. The beef carpaccio was a 10/10, the whipped ricotta was amazing, and the spaghetti was hands down the star of the meal. I was debating between the linguini and the spaghetti, and he strongly recommended the spaghetti. We ended up ordering both, and while the linguini was very good, he was absolutely right. The spaghetti was incredible. The meatballs were soft and flavorful, the pasta was perfectly al dente, the sauce was beautifully seasoned, and the fresh basil really brought everything together. Came here for my friends birthday. Ambiance is cool and sitting outside is nice. Parking is nightmare so just beware lol. I got the spinach and ricotta tortellini. It comes with about 5 or 6 larger sized tortellini. It was very good and lemony. I also had a tropical coconut like rum drink that I unfortunately can't remember the name of. That was delicious! Tasted like a melted pina colada I loved it. A little pricey but typical for the area I would imagine. There's automatic gratuity for parties of 6 or more. read more

Hannah was the star of the night! She absolutely made our evening and was so kind when our food came out late she comped our app. She was attentive and helpful in recommending what to order. The patio was lovely! Tables were not on top of each other and there was a nice fountain and I wasn't too chilly at night. We brought our dog with no issues. The male hosts were odd, we had a reservation for 2 and they sat another table for 2 before us who didn't have a reservation as well as a massive party. It wasn't a big deal but weird way to start the night and there was no sense of urgency after they were 15mins late to seat us. But again, Hannah made all of that disappear when she took over service. The food was good but I'd really only recommend the spaghetti and meatballs, the reviews are all right -- that's the standout dish! Pricing was fair especially for the location as well! read more

Came here for lunch on a Tuesday around 11:30am. We were the only ones in the whole place for a majority of the time! We sat outside on the patio which was really nice and shaded but also trapped the heat. We started with the whipped ricotta - so different and lovely. Lemony, pesto-y deliciousness! Our waiter also let us know to ask whenever we needed more bread which was refreshing to hear instead of feeling bad asking for more or getting charged. Would absolutely order this again. Next we had the Bianca pizza. This has preserved lemon as well and was quite refreshing and different than most pizzas. We shared between two of us and went home with leftovers (probably because we also had the bread w the whipped burrata). Would order again. We ended with the affogato which was the perfect dessert. Oh my gosh, the food is so delicious. My wife loves spaghetti and this was just next level. I have the chicken piccata and it was delicious. We're definitely gonna come back. The reason why I gave it four stars instead of five because of our waiter while he was a super nice guy he couldn't remember what our order was good thing we corrected him or we would've gotten the wrong thing. After he took her out, he went to another table and I guess he just forgot that the other table got their food long before us. But I'm not gonna let that stop me from coming back. Instead, the server split the total evenly among everyone, even after we explained that we didn't want to do it that way. Downward Spiral?? - We had made a reservation and were so excited to return to Piatti yesterday (12/27) for a late afternoon lunch/dinner ~ only to discover that, due to extreme and severe staffing shortages, neither the bar nor interior tables were being used. There seemed to be 3 or 4 people only - trying unsuccessfully to do everything, with tables uncleared and overall restaurant at about 20% capacity. Only the patio was being used - and only about 70% of THAT area.... I fear for the future of this business, given that despite limited customer patronage it will nevertheless have to cover start up, operational and long term expenses. Most if not all surrounding restaurants were actively teeming with post Christmas visitors... Best Italian food in OC we have tried so far. We were blown away the whipped ricotta and the linguine di mare. The whipped ricotta appetizer was so creamy and the basil oil it is prepared with was such an aromic and flavorful add. We will definitely be visiting this restaurant again and absolutely will order the whipped ricotta. The linguine di mare was also phenomenal. It had a comforting sauce almost that of the same consistency and comfort of soup on a cold day. Unfortunately the carbonara was not a dish I would recommend. The consistency was too thick and the flavor profile was pretty lacking. The espresso martinis were also very solid! I have had better espresso martinis but I very much appreciate how the focus was on the espresso rather than on added sugar and cream. I would order the espresso martini again as well. As for the service, our server was fantastic! She was efficient, fast, and friendly and positive person to be around. What an interesting little place! The food was actually really good, and I am sad I didn't get more photos. I had the short rib, and it's one of the best I've ever had. We got the ricotta and pistachio spread. We also got a Caesar. The salad was average, but the dressing was clearly Homemade and I appreciated that. It's well-lit inside. Feels really warm and inviting. The reason for the 4 stars? The service was patchy. Our server was very friendly. But the busboys were doing that thing I hate in any restaurant. You have a bite or two left, and are having a conversation, and they ask to take your plate. (I think this happens more when it's slow.) In addition, they would clear silverware and plates, and glasses, and another course was served, and we had to flag down someone to bring us utensils. Just poor execution on their part. WOW! This restaurant delivered exceptionally. The service, food, and ambiance are prestige. My family and I visited after a day at Main Beach, and I am so glad we did. We have two kiddos who can occasionally be a bit picky about their food. Most of the time, they don't finish their plates; however, they wiped their plates clean here. Our daughter had the kids meatball marinara, and our son had the kids pepperoni pizza. I ordered the Spinach & Ricotta Tortellini, and my wife ordered a Caesar salad. We both LOVED our plates. The salad had a good limey taste and the anchovies were a great add on. The tortellini was so flavorful, tender, and just delicious overall. Although this is a small chain, it is run like a family owned business with Donny the general manager at the helm, who happens to be from the Laguna area. The space is very well designed inside with a nice bar and dining area- but the place to be is on their spacious patio We had a very attentive server named Lino who was warm and has a nice low key disposition We brought our own wine and did experience a higher than normal corkage fee of $35- but it was fine. Although they could use larger wine glasses for the wines to open and breath better We ordered the funghi pizza which had numerous types of mushrooms, onions, whipped ricotta, etc. Overall it was tasty The short ribs was the star dish of the night and would go back just for this. It comes with a salsa verde which is actually a pesto sauce, a developed reduced balsamic sauce over a bed of marscapone polenta. So good! We had a few other dishes that were ok- and the manager off the bill which was very smart and nice. My friends made evening reservations at this hidden gem, and from start to finish, I loved every moment of the experience. Ambiance The restaurant is absolutely stunning at night. Friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, he offered great recommendations and made us feel taken care of throughout the evening. A solid 10/10 for service. Drinks Though I wasn't drinking that evening, I did have a sip of both the Old Fashioned and the Espresso Martini...and wow, both were expertly crafted. I'm usually not a fan of Espresso Martinis, but this one had a perfect balance of alcohol, espresso, and sweetness. Honestly, I could have sipped on it all night but unfortunately, my stomach wasn't feeling too well to be able to have alcohol. The Food Now the best part...the food! Italian Breads A simple starter with a variety of breads and dipping oil. Nothing particularly special, but for $5, it's a nice way to nibble while waiting for the main courses. I could take it or leave it. Spinach & Ricotta Agnolotti (or possibly Tortellini?) Served as a shared appetizer, this was easily one of my favorite dishes of the night. It had a bold, distinctive flavor profile that stood out and left me wanting more. I'd return just for this dish and this dish alone. Well... maybe... Linguine di Mare This seafood pasta came with a generous mix of clams and squid in a light sauce that let the seafood shine. Finished with garlic, breadcrumbs, and chili flakes...it looked beautiful but was my least favorite of the evening. On its own, it's solid, but it just overshadowed by the other standout dishes. Rigatoni Bolognese This was my main dish...I wanted to try a classic red sauce pasta, and it delivered. It was good, comforting, and well-prepared, but not especially memorable. If you're a fan of red sauces, you'll enjoy it, but I'd still recommend the spinach & ricotta pasta over this. Funghi Pizza This entrée was another favorite of mine! As a mushroom lover, I was thrilled. The rich, earthy flavor of the mushrooms paired beautifully with the dough, cheeses, and toppings. This was also loved by everyone at the table and would say this is a must-try if you visit Piatti. My brother in law had booked this place for his birthday dinner. The food was great, especially the special lobster pasta. The sauce was full of flavor and pasta was perfectly cooked. Lobster was a little salty. It was really nice for the chef to come to our table to introduce the pasta dish. We had a large party and were great that we were arranged to be seated on one side of the restaurant so that we wouldn't be too disturbing. Piatti was an absolute vibe! The location that they have on Ocean is perfect. Right when we walked in, we were greeted by a really nice hostess. What I loved most were the bartenders. They had such good energy and they were so welcoming! Immediately they asked us if we would like a drink while we waited for a table, and we enjoyed some Pinot Grigio. Who seated, we were presented with the vast menu plenty of options, lots of good plant based ones for myself as well, and they were accommodating to modify a couple dishes. I'm Italian and vegan, and the beauty is that most Mediterranean food has an incredible plethora of plant-based options. The pacing was great, even though the restaurant is really new. they were very much on point. We met one of the managers and they were great. We went on a Monday night and had no problem finding parking right in front of the restaurant, which already felt like a win in Laguna. From start to finish, everything was done right. It came with puréed mushrooms and thick sliced mushrooms that complemented the dish beautifully. Easily one of the best octopus dishes I have had. We shared a bottle of wine and also ordered an espresso martini and an Old Fashioned. And yes, they serve Old Fashioneds with the proper large ice cube for anyone who appreciates a well made cocktail. Attention to detail matters. For food, we shared the spicy pizza and the portion was very generous. It is large enough to be your own meal or perfect for sharing and still feeling satisfied. They are known for their Bolognese pasta for a reason. It is made with over a dozen ingredients and takes overnight to prepare. You can taste the care and depth in every bite. Rich, comforting, and perfectly balanced. We also ordered the Linguini del Mare, which was cooked to perfection. The sauce was phenomenal, and they brought out fresh bread on the side so you could dip straight into it. Do not skip that. Finish with dessert. You have to try their gelatos and fresh baked cookies. Authentic homemade pasta, an excellent wine selection, great cocktails, incredible service, and an atmosphere that works just as well for date night as it does for a family dinner. Highly recommend. I recently visited Piatti and unfortunately, it missed the mark. The food was just okay overall. We also ordered a pizza that ended up being more like a small flatbread, which was unexpected and a bit underwhelming. The restaurant itself is fresh, updated decor with a really inviting atmosphere. Where the experience really fell short was with the cocktails and service. I ordered the Fiorella (vodka, elderflower, lemon, lavender), which unfortunately tasted more like a generic fruit punch than a crafted cocktail. The staff did offer to remake it, but my second drink, the Ocean's Honey, arrived in a chipped/broken glass. Additionally, the cocktail presentation didn't match the price point--garnishes were simply sliced fruit, including a basic orange slice you'd expect with a beer, not a specialty $18 cocktail. Service was also disappointing. While the staff was trying to correct my drink, my husband had already finished his and was left without one for quite a while, and our server wasn't very attentive in checking back. When the bill came, the incorrect cocktail was still included and we had to ask for it to be removed. Nothing was offered as an apology, which didn't align with the level of service you'd expect for the prices on the menu. We're local and love coming to Laguna Beach for date nights, and there are many restaurants we return to again and again--but unfortunately, this won't be one of them. read more

My experience here at Piatti was absolutely horrendous. First, the waiter asked us if we wanted bread. We said no because we did not want to pay extra for the bread. He claimed he would bring us the "regular" bread HINTING it was just a free appetizer most restaurants serve before ordering, but then charged us over $10 for some MID ASS BREAD. Not to mention the server was so rude and pushy, as he interrupted us multiple times during conversations and questions. I went out with friends so we needed to split the check (not the most ideal thing I know) but we made that very clear in the BEGINNING before ordering!!! Once he gave us the check, it was not split. He then went and split it four ways EVENLY, meanwhile only one of our friends had only ordered a drink. He then charged me DOUBLE the price I payed so instead of 40 I was charged 80 BEFORE TIP! I was pleasantly surprised by the interior, we had a seat by the fountain and it was an excellent vibe. The Italian breads were extremely underwhelming, ciabatta and focaccia were dry and cold and the breadstick wasn't crunchy enough. The bolognese rigatoni was yummy and comforting. The tortellini itself was good but the lemon sauce was unexpected and my favorite part of the entire meal. The service was fine, I mentioned it was my birthday in the reservation and the waiter acknowledged it when checking my ID but i was disappointed at the lack of birthday dessert. Our waiter forgot our appetizer entirely, and we watched tables that were seated after us receive their entrees before we even got our appetizer. We shared a Caesar salad and extremely salty and not enjoyable. The dressing was overwhelmingly anchovy and caper forward, to the point where it was hard to eat. The white pizza was just okay. We didn't notice it came with lemon on it and didn't think it was worth adding on. Nothing memorable or worth the wait. Overall, everything took far longer than it should have, and the food didn't make up for the service issues. By the time I considered speaking with a manager, we had another reservation to get to.
