We stumbled onto McClain Cellars after breakfast next door and ended up canceling our Museum of Make Believe tickets to stay all day instead, no regrets whatsoever Eddie and Agnus made the whole experience. Both were so knowledgeable about the wines and just genuinely friendly, the kind of hospitality that makes you want to stay "just one more glass" way longer than planned. The wine itself was delicious across the board. Loved that we could purchase all the stuff for a charcuterie board and have it put together for us. The vibe was absolutely perfect! While visiting Laguna Beach, I went out looking for artist studios and had "find a good wine bar" on my list. I didn't find the studios, but I found this incredible gem instead. Eddie knew the story behind every wine and made the whole experience feel personal and easy. The bathroom was conveniently located on our walk to the Sawdust Festival. Started with their Chardonnay and sampled some pinos. The Voigner was crisp and delicious. The manager and bar tender were so knowledgeable and laid back. No joke, you get your cheese, meat and cracker snacks from a fridge case and they take it and make a charcuterie board for you. This was the most amazing experience! We were celebrating my mom's birthday and wanted to have some nice wine before our dinner reservation. I saw that they had live music so I decided to make a reservation. The gentleman on the bar was very friendly, and took his time recommending what will match with my taste, and OMG that wine was out of this world. It was called "camping on the clouds" it was pretty strong too ! We all had the same and we loved it. Also, their manager Justin came over making sure everything was great. When he found out it was my mom's birthday, he was kind enough to pour her another glass on the house. I could tell everyone here loves what they do and the environment was just so fun and intimate. I went on Thursday and I have mixed reviews. I love wine and wine bars. This one is cute, close to me, and people are friendly. But I can't get over the limited wine and the quality of it. There's only two white wines you can have by the glass and both are not good white wines. They are also almost $20 a glass. My friend got a red wine and she said it was decent if it's a wine bar, there should be several wines by the glass to try. I get that they want to sell you a bottle so that you drink a bottle while you're there and spend 70 bucks, but we need more options here. read more

Not impressed with this wine bar. First off, it's got this laid back, hippie vibe. That doesn't really fit with wine bar. At least for me. McClain Cellars is more of a sit outside, under this weird tent and enjoy crappy wine while the flies and nats attack your food kinda vibe. Oh and I forgot, you are sweating. Because it's still 80 degrees outside, even in October (thank you global warming). Maybe if you are an outdoorsy type of person, then you might enjoy this? The chairs suck also. You have to squeeze onto a tiny stool that only fit one butt cheek. And the appetizer-like food options are subpar. I mean we ordered a charcuterie board and that was one of the worst I have ever seen. Basically, just crackers and cheese with some meat. No fruit, no jam, it was not good. The wine was "young" and not aged. The only redeeming quality about this wine bar was the staff. They were very kind and welcoming. I requested ice water since it was hot, and they brought some out. The tasting area open and cozy, laid-back vibe, and Agnus was genuinely friendly and knowledgeable without any pretension. Every pour felt intentional, and it's clear there's real passion behind the wine. A must-stop when in Laguna Beach. The only downside was the prices of the wine, we've been all around the world and wine tasting is what we do and we usually buy a couple of bottles from each location. Perfect Saturday afternoon! Firstly, the vibe in the afternoon is perfect cali laid back and totally relaxing. Even though the tasting room is just at the beginning of the canyon, you can still feel the ocean breeze, and it's very easy walking distance to the digs on forest Ave. I indulged in one of wine flights and the popcorn flight. Even though it's a wine tasting room, I have to insist you try the popcorn- the flavors are fantastic!!!!!! I wish the texture was a bit crispier, but that is a minor point. I had the charity wine flight, of which a portion of the cost goes to a charity. I loved "Kayla's crush" and the single varietal covent garden, which brought back good memories of London . But what I really loved was that this is a family operation, and that permeates throughout the wine, bottle art and names of the wine. My hostesses were impeccably hospitable- Agnes and Kayla. Okay, so I'm not really that much of a wine drinker in general, but my oldest child was turning 30, and this was where she wanted to celebrate her birthday with the family. Cool. We had a party of 10, and had no trouble whatsoever booking a table. We. Had. A. BLAST. Eddie, our experience curator, was a delight. Very attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. None of us had ever been to McClain's before, and he provided a wealth of information. The indoor/outdoor environment felt fresh, and the music playlist was fire. (This may be a bit of a vanity on my part, because 90% of what they played was stuff I also had on my own personal playlists, so kudos for the good taste...) In the end, this was a fantastic outing for our crowd of 10, ages 21 through almost 80, and everybody had an exceptional time; in fact, I feel like I should apologize on our group's behalf for all the raised voices and uncontrolled laughter! We still love this place right down the street we were on the picture on the wall. We joined the wine club way back from Covid days built up quite a balance not getting the wine. Once we tried to cancel with the staff, we were unable to do so. I made several calls with down there in person even spoke to a Manager and Buellton (Laden) because the Laguna Beach voicemail box is always full. Just be careful with credit card to get them because it will be charged without your consent even after you cancel. Very Frustrating. read more

They were attentive and kind throughout the time we were there and had no issues with us sampling the wines before we made a decision. The wine list is extensive and everything I sampled were amazing choices. A few of us did the wine tasting and a few of us decided to stay with a glass. The portions are plenty. The live band was a great touch and added to an amazing evening with great wine and great sounds. There plenty of parking and none of us had an issue.
