I've been around wine most of my life, and one thing you learn pretty quickly is that you can tell when someone is just **selling wine** versus when they're genuinely passionate about it. Bob's Fine Wine is the real deal. This place works whether you're looking for a Tuesday-night bottle or something in the $200+ range that requires you to explain to your spouse why it was "actually a very good value." The selection is impressive. I even found Behrens Family here, which isn't always easy to track down--and at a really good price. That was the moment I knew these guys were serious. What I especially like is that you don't need to be a wine collector to appreciate the place. There's something for everyone, from a solid daily drinker to bottles you'll stare at for six months waiting for an occasion important enough to open them. If you are in San Clemente or the surrounding areas, this is the best wine shop ever! It's a small shop, but they have a very good wine selection! It's super old-school so when you walk in it's very crowded with boxes on top of boxes and it's fairly dark at the back which I was told it was because some of the wines are light sensitive. I love knowing that they are so knowledgeable about the wines that they care for them in the proper way! They do have an extensive wine collection from all over the world and all price points. I did not have the pleasure of meeting Bob, the owner, today, but I did meet Baine, who works for Bob! He was so knowledgeable on all the wines and gave me the best options to try. Great place to find rare and vintage bottles at extremely fair prices. Bob has personally helped me locate a number of vintage bottle including this incredible 1974 Mayacamas. I was looking for this specific vintage and even though Bob didn't have it on hand he was able to find it for me a charged far less than other online options. This wine shop was a very nice find. I was randomly checking out the vintage display in the window of this wine shop when a nice man (I think he's the owner?) comes out and invites me in and starts chatting about wine. I don't drink but I did happen to need something to bring to a Christmas party where there were a lot of wine drinkers. So I asked for a bottle of red wine to go with prime rib. I said my price range was about $50 and he personally picked one out for me. On the party day, I opened it and aired it out for several hours like owner told me to do. I prayed that I hadn't messed it up but thankfully I didn't need to worry. The partygoers raved about it and asked where I got it. They said it was better than this wine they had at a friends house that was way more expensive and told me the reasons why. I'm definitely telling people about this place. I wanted to send sparkling wine in my place to a bachelorette party in San Clemente... but I was in Brooklyn. Google turned up some good reviews for Bob's. I called and spoke to a very nice woman who told me they don't deliver as a rule, but that didn't mean that wouldn't do it -- she had to ask Robert (I assume Bob?). Robert returned my call to say that he absolutely would deliver three bottles, and helped me pick out a good brand in my price range. He even delivered two bottles chilled and one at room temperature in case the revelers wanted save one for brunch or another celebratory occasion -- very thoughtful. I was so focused on getting the wine that I didn't even ask for the guys name who helped, but I have a feeling it's Rob after reading reviews. He was incredibly nice and patient while I explained what we were looking for. Halfway through I realized I forgot to include that I was looking for something a little harder to get, but it was perfect because he thought of a wine that isn't available everywhere! On the way out I forgot I wanted to grab a special beer, and again he was very helpful.
