It's been a while since we came here, so we decided to come here for a quick dinner. We were immediately seated after arriving and ordered the following: Bo luc lac, which is beef cube stir fry and white rice. Daughter said that it was good and that it was nice and flavorful. Hubs thought this was pretty tasty, also. #6 Banh xeo, which is crispy crepe made from wheat, rice flour, turmeric and egg. The crepe is filled with bean sprouts and shrimp. Hubs thought this was pretty good and that it was nice to have on the side. #2 Fresh clear Spring rolls, which are fresh rice paper rolls with lettuce, mint, vermicelli noodles and your choice of protein. I chose shrimp, served with peanut sauce. This wasn't bad. #7 Pho Day Diet, which is a combination with eye round steak, flank, brisket, tendon and tripe. Hubs said that the steak was cooked instead of given raw so that we could cook it to our preference, but there were plenty of herbs and bean sprouts to make up for it. My second time at the restaurant. The first time I dined I was very impressed. The food came out quickly and tasted fantastic! Or should I say it was "Photastic"! Service was too notch as well. Inside this spot has a nice, clean, simple atmosphere and the young staff is super friendly. For our first visit we ordered some Deep Fried Chicken Wings to start. These were not only huge, they were crispy, juicy and delicious. Now as for the main reason we came, the Pho. My wife and I both ordered the Pho with round steak and brisket. The Pho was wonderful, served in a big bowl with tender meat in a super flavorful broth. Definitely ranked up there with some of the best we've tried. It was a cold day with bitter winds, and the perfect day for soup. Pho is so much more than that. We tried the #11 and chicken broth with shrimp. Pad Thai with shrimp- this was very tasty- he enjoyed this very much and it was quite a good serving. I've been in the area for work and coming here pretty regularly for the last couple of months. Staff is very friendly and service is fast. Ice cold water delivered to the table almost immediately. I've gotten a few different variations of the Pho and never been disappointed. And the "large" portion is a good value - hood portion of delicious soup for only a couple of shekels more then the "small," or kid portion. My personal favorite is #7, large, and add meatballs; though sometimes I'll keep it simple and get a small #11 with meatballs (don't sleep on the meatballs!). There's also a good amount of "fixins" on the table so you can doctor it up the way you like... I like mine spicy, so a little Sriracha, hoisin, and some of the chili-oil, plus a squeeze of lime, and it's just right. Go for it, you won't be disappointed! read more

This place is truly a 3 1/2 star place. After a wet miserable day, we need comfort food. Hubby, The Kid and I hoped into our car and had a short drive to this restaurant. Some establishments make you sit at a small table in which if you order a few dishes, it's hard to enjoy yourselves because everything is too compact and you can't move dishes around. As we all peruse our menu, we decide on chicken wings with sweet and sour sauce (think General tsao sauce) and pho with rare beef and tendons. We shared the wings but had our own bowls. There appetizers came out very quickly. I was worried it was too rushed and perhaps precooked. Regardless they were savory and delicious. Hubby kept sticking his fork in to get all the onions with the sauce on it. Next came three humongous bowls of pho. Thus is gluten free heaven! The vermicelli noodles are gluten free. Our meat was a little too well done considering it was supposed to be rare. The tendons were bit pieces in both hubby and mine but The Kid had nice cuts. The soup was delicious but we all noticed as you drank further down, there soup became richer while the top was a tad flavorless. They did give us a generous about of basil, jalapenos, lime and soy beans. The place is fairly clean and the pho is fair. It's a place where you'll comes to because it is good for where you are and how much your food costs saved its portion. It'll do. The walls are still adorned with their Christmas theme. I went here earlier today for Fathers Day with my family and what a great experience. I've been to many Vietnamese restaurants and I loved this one. It's great to know that Toms River is beginning to reach a multicultural level of food and dining. Before it was usually just Italian food and fast food, with a little sprinkle of multicultural food around. I got the summer rolls, shrimp rolls, and the fresh vegetarian rolls. They were delicious and a nice snack before our meals. For my entrée I got the grilled chicken with jasmine rice. The marinate they used was great and the chicken was much juicier and tender than most Vietnamese places. With that said, my family had a great time and the service was great! Worst service! Came in to a grumpy hostess who just point us to a table instead of walking us there. When we want to combine tables to accommodate the party, she yelled at us. We did not see the sign about rules about the 8+ party. Our second group of 5 didn't confirm that they are joining us until last minute. We didn't think the restaurant would have a problem accommodating given it's a slow Saturday afternoon and a sizable restaurant. But if the restaurant has strict rules, we respect that. What comes down to is the attitude that we experienced from the hostess. As our large party was walking out, she did not give us a second look. Photastic gets very mixed reviews for several reasons. First in the door, although they have no liquor license, they don't permit bringing a bottle of wine which wouldn't be so terrible but their drink selection is dreadful. Everything has sugar syrup already mixed in including the Green Tea. The food was mixed. We had the Vietnamese crepe that was terribly greasy, nevertheless tasty. Spring rolls were tasteless but the Peanut dipping sauce was yummy.?The Pho with meatballs was strange; the meatballs were like rubber pucks in texture and we weren't so sure they were made of meat. Still, the broth was quite tasty and if I ordered again, I would try a different protein. It was mighty inexpensive. Finally, the napkins were thin and rough and I had to go through a lot of them. Second, if the restaurant think that kids would make noise playing the spoons which I think it is pretty normal for kids to play with spoons at the tables; why the restaurant did not provide plastic spoons to table that had kids.
