I've passed this place a bunch of times but have never been. I tried going last year, but they were closed for a summer break. Same thing happened this year. Very low key spot , you feel like your eating at some one's private living room. They hit the main things with me clean fast and courteous. If you're new to this style cuisine the gentleman server didn't have an issue explaining things. The bao was good. Didn't have a fake plastic feel most places have on the shells. Considering another eatery, I discovered that it was temporarily closed, which led me to go this eatery instead. I like how the brand maintains a form easy to understand, from the name to the logo showing a bowl of food with chopsticks. The sign outside is itself simple in design albeit inconsistent, since the font does not match the one on the logo. You will also find lots of artwork decorating the walls and plastic plants. While you do have access to the menu, only a few of the items have images. Pertaining to the overall design of the website, it makes use of images and B-Roll footage with good placement, giving the entire website a good presentation with every scroll. Wait Time: 5/5 I experienced no issues or delays, as I received the beverage and the meal quickly. Ambiance: 4/5 You will hear Vietnamese pop playing throughout the establishment with a soothing volume. While the tables did have a small size, they make up for it by including containers filled with eating utensils with Vietnamese terms on it, which I found quite fascinating. Plenty of space exists separating the tables, and the establishment had a large capacity to accommodate many people. The seats felt slightly comfortable. The crunchy baguette held its form as the grilled pork became the most prominent flavor. The flavor of the well-cooked pork especially came out with the addition of barbecue sauce. The vegetables, especially the cucumbers, gave it a balanced taste. The Thai Tea had a robust, tangy flavor. This entire course brought me into a pleasant mood, for not only did I get to try my first Vietnamese meal, but the tea especially gave me a decent experience that lasted throughout the day. The wait time it took to cook the meal matched the quality perfectly, and I can clearly see how they would feature on the website as a menu item. The service puts care into their menu items, and they keep within the spirit of Vietnamese cuisine. Service: 5/5 The staff made sure that I had a well-attended experience. I do not know if he was the owner, but he ensured that I knew what I wanted by offering me not just the menu but also a tablet showing the images of the items. Although they had a randomized order, I can definitely understand that a non-Vietnamese American like myself would probably not know much about Vietnamese cuisine. It is also a sign of a technologically aware establishment. Hubs and I decided to come here for lunch and give it a try. It's been a few years since we've been here and I read that they changed owners. We arrived and we were immediately seated. There were two or three tables already occupied. We ordered the following to share: A10 - Vietnamese Special Banh Mi (Cold Cut)- I thought that the pate was a little salty. Hubs wished that there were more carrots and daikon in the sandwich. He felt that it was missing the vinegary acid, jalapeños and cucumbers. There was a lot of meat, though. P4 - Pho with rare steak, well done flank and fatty brisket- The order was hearty and satisfying. The broth was a little bit greasy, but then fatty brisket was one of the ingredients in the pho. What comes around, goes around. LOL A2- pan fried sticky rice dumplings- We were curious what this tasted like. It's basically a deep fried mochi doughnut. This tasted ok. We were glad we got to try it. Hubs used the ngoc Cham for the banh mi. LOL. Service was quick and friendly. Will return and try other items on the menu. read more

I LOVE Vietnam Bistro. They have GREAT Pho and GREAT "bun" dishes (The ones with the rice noodles on the bottom with lettuce and the carrot stuff?) Like most main thoroughfares in New Jersey, Rte. 9 through Howell is a chain restaurant graveyard offering homogeneous corporate gruel slopped out in obnoxious central-planning fun-factories that only a focus-group could love. In these casual dining hives the emphasis is clearly on pushing overpriced novelty drinks and culturally disingenuous menu items so ambiguous that their true country of origin remains a mystery for the ages. What the hell are Tuscan Fajitas? That is precisely what sets Vietnam Bistro apart as this strip-mall hole-in-the-wall is fast becoming my favorite restaurant. Every dish that I have tried is fresh and flavorful with the Calamari and vegetarian Pho easily being my default order. The service can be a challenge especially if you don't speak Vietnamese but this speed bump merely adds to the experience, besides, speaking the King's English is not always a guarantee that you'll get what you want on the first try at IHop or Applebee's either. Found this gem on Memorial day,on the way going to the shore. It was great surprise for me and my husband about this restaurant when everything here are more than perfect to us. The food was so good,so tasty with a lot of love when they have been prepared. I can see the art of cooking through the food here. The customer service were great,friendly too. It had met our satisfaction. Everything, everywhere were so clean. Compare to lots of Vietnamese restaurants we had been to, this is so nice, clean and serve very good tasty foods. Food here was good but dishes are limited if you're looking for authentic dishes. My usual go to is Miss Saigon because their pho & bun bo hue are very tasty, so I'd go there for that. The pho & bun bo hue here are good but not the best. What I did really like were there fried cha gio spring rolls. They tasted like mom's and were not filled with fillers like most places. Definitely better than Miss Saigons. Their banh it tran is one of my favorites and is good, but I don't know of many Viet restaurants that offer this dish. Why not banh beo or banh xeo. I just think those dishes offer more of what Vietnamese dishes are about. Prices are about average here, but portions are a little bit less. The ambiance here is ok, it's bright, spacious and clean restaurant. The servers are nice & fairly attentive but could be more personable like the previous owner Phil. I'd come back here again to try other dishes and would definitely get the spring rolls, but Miss Saigon down the road, is still my favorite in getting my authentic vietnamese food. read more

Came here because I heard they were under new ownership and I'm still looking for a good viet place closer to home. And I'm still looking. It took seemingly forever for our order to be taken, as there were only two people working up front and one of the persons was busy talking to a friend/customer about video games the entire time. When it came time to order, I ordered the vegetarian spring rolls as an appetizer. But she told me they're not actually spring rolls, but summer rolls, if that was okay. I ended up not ordering them because I actually wanted spring rolls, as not many places make them without pork. So I passed. Then I ordered the regular sized vegetarian pho--which again, though in the menu, only comes in a size large. I hesitated, because i wanted a smaller size so I could comfortably eat an appetizer as well, and seeing the hesitation, she commented that 'it's only a dollar more.' It was a bit off putting as it wasn't the price that concerned me, but rather that I didn't want to waste food, as pho isn't something you take leftovers home of. We got our food relatively quickly. My vegetarian pho was super sweet somehow, though my partner said his beef pho was fine. They don't give small dishes to put sauce in, so I used the dish that the bean sprouts came on. We got our check without asking for it (they didn't even ask if we wanted to order anything else). And while waiting to pay, it became apparent that it was going to take awhile so we left cash and left. We won't be coming back. read more

I Had other places in mind but decided to come here being that they had a specific sandwhich called bahn me . IT was recommended by a coworker as I never had one before so I was excited to try one . I had ordered the chicken bahn mi and to be honest I wasn't impressed at all. The first bite I had was ruined as I had bit down on a bone. I was nervous to eat the rest of it as I didn't want to chip a tooth over a sandwhich . But I continued to eat it, the sandwhich was a bit flavorless, definitely wouldn't go out of my way to come there for it again. Id definitely would try another place though. Hard to come across a good pho restaurant around the area so its nice that this place is just a short drive away! Portion in my opinion is decent and they're generous with the side of bean sprouts, basil and lime. Cost: Been coming here consistently for several years and I know business changes but I felt like the price has steadily been increasing every time I visited! Had lunch here and was very pleased. We ordered the Pho Ga and a Thai iced tea. I was very happy to see you could order a small size. My husband had the large. Decided to try this place on a monday since our usual spot down the road was closed on Mondays. Please avoid. My wifes stomach does not feel well after ingesting the spoiled sour peanut sauce that came with the summer roll. Everything is just mediocre at best and definetly pre prepped and not freshly made. The grilled pork was not made fresh as theres no heat or grill Mark's on the pork. The Pho was much better but did not contain any of the usual sides of bean sprouts, basil, hoisin sauce and sriracha. Spoiled sauce is a sign of poor food handling and lack of refrigeration. I would honestly think twice before trying this place again. We had a great experience 2 years ago and honestly not sure what's going on now but will be sticking with our Usual Miss Saigon down the road from now on. read more

Pretty decent Vietnamese food, but not the absolute best. This is the only Vietnamese place that will deliver on DoorDash, so we get it a lot at work. Therefore, the prices are a little inflated when we get delivery. The bahn mi is very good and even better if you do take out and toast it in the toaster oven or air fryer at home! The vermicelli plates are also solid, though haven't tried the pho (soup's a little difficult for take out at work)! This place has changed hands, it's not the good food it used to be, everything is way over salted. The other owner Phil, used to have very taste dishes. We asked for Hot Tea, and got Luke warm tea in a paper cup, you get water in a plastic Dixie cup. This is another example of bailing out a favorite place during pandemic only to be sold name and restaurant to another owner, with no knowledge of how to run a restaurant. Very Disappointed, used to get the PHOY Tay Soup full of vegetables and noodles, which is now a salt bath and two vegetables. THIS PLACE SUCKS!
