We moved away from this area years ago, but we were here visiting family and decided to try it again, because we remembered liking it. Almost everything was terrible. Chicken and broccoli had rotten white pieces of broccoli and the chicken was mostly bad pieces. The sauce had the consistency of wet cat food, and smelled like it. It didn't taste good either. The beef and broccoli wasn't good. The beef was sliced ultra-thin and looked like it was on its last leg. The sauce was lame. The kung pao chicken had a decent sauce - not great, but decent. And nice veggies. But the chicken seemed like it was all the left-over chopped up dark-meat scraps and grizzle. Basically inedible. Sesame chicken wasn't that bad tasting but dark meat chicken. And poor quality meat. The sweet and sour chicken was ok but it's probably hard to mess up fried chicken with dipping sauce. The crab rangoons were good also. But I wouldn't frequent a restaurant if the only redeeming thing they make is an appetizer. Also, their online ordering system is awful. There are no descriptions for the dishes and you can't pay for your food online. You have to pay when you get there. It's a little bizarre and confusing. I wish they at least had a description for each dish and maybe even a picture on the online menu. Or they should post a picture of the actual store menu on their website. People may have no idea what moo goo gai pan is (I don't!). Pretty disappointing. But we aren't local so we won't be back no matter what. read more

I recently ordered from Eastern Empire Chinese & Thai Restaurant, and I couldn't be more impressed! I ordered the Chicken Lo Mein, which came with Roast Pork Fried Rice and an Egg Roll. I opted for delivery, and it arrived incredibly fast. Not only was it fast, but it was also so hot that we actually had to let it cool off before eating--something I rarely experience with delivery orders! The Chicken Lo Mein was packed with tender chicken, perfectly cooked noodles, and fresh veggies, all coated in a delicious savory sauce. The Roast Pork Fried Rice was flavorful, and the Egg Roll was crispy and satisfying. The portion sizes were generous, making it an excellent value. If you're craving tasty Chinese and Thai cuisine with lightning-fast delivery, Eastern Empire is the place to go. I can't speak for the ambiance except I went to pick up a few times. I have been dining hear for many years. Occasionally, I have tried a few others for comparison, however I always return to this restaurant. I am very fortunate that it is also within walking distance although I'd gladly drive the miles it would take to go there. My orders have always been filled correctly, even when I make a special request to add or delete ingredients. I recommend Eastern Empire to many of my friends. It has become a regular place to enjoy a hot, delicious meal. The people there take their craft very seriously, and I never see their restaurant empty when I visit. Eastern Empire is the only Chinese Restaurant I patronize in the Ocean Township Asbury Park area. Not one single dish has ever disappointed me. The portions many of which offered in both small and large are extreme generous and leftovers provide many additional meals. I highly suggest and recommend everyone try it out. This place usually has great food but for some reason when I got my shrimp pineapple coconut curry dish I always get it was So greasy it could not even be eaten. I tried to eat a little bit of it and now I'm getting stomach cramps. I tried calling them to talk about it and let them know I would send them pictures and some guy just got on the phone with me and kept yelling at me saying we don't put oil in it we don't put oil in it. I told him I just wanted to send them pictures but they wanted nothing to do with it. We have been a good long time customer of theirs and I didn't want anything from them just to let them know.. I thought I was able to post a picture on this review but I don't see an option to do it what I will say is there is about a quarter inch to a 1/2 an inch of grease or oil just floating at the top. read more

So, Eastern Empire Restaurant is not the prettiest place you will ever go to, but the food is excellent, so go there anyway. It has some of the best Chinese food in the area and their Thai selections are also great. The service is friendly and fast. You can eat there, take out or have it delivered, even to your hotel. You order your food at the counter, pick it up and enjoy the few tables they have. It is very nice. We will be back. read more

This is a great Chinese takeout spot that serves some good Thai dishes as well. Eastern Empire is just a few miles from my work, so I often make a quick online order before i leave to go home, and the food is ready for pickup by the time I get there. The American-Chinese staples like General Tso's chicken or sesame chicken are as good if not better than any of the Chinese restaurants at home. Their noodle dishes are really good, whether you get the lo mein, or something a little fancier like the pan fried noodles. Just a warning, if you choose to order from the Thai menu and get one of their spicy soups, they do make them very spicy. Like the moment it hits your tongue, you go running for relief because the darn thing is painfully spicy. So just beware you food heat seekers! read more

Eastern Empire is crumbling. Well... I never really Liked it. My family lived in the area and like this place but when I got food from here, it's just strange. The Lo Mein is always very starchy. And I know why, when they cook the noodles, they don't rinse them in hot water first before frying it off and then the excess flour turns it into mush. Their fried rice is also terrible. It's like Mall Chinese food, with yellow rice... sometimes it's got peas and carrots, sometimes it doesn't. And that's the thing, this place isn't consistent. Sometimes the food is ok but Most of the time it is not good at all. But my wife always likes this place even though when I eat it and I look at her and ask, "are we eating the same thing?" I did notice she uses a ton of soy sauce... and probably because it's got zero flavor. If you're looking for Chinese, this is not the place to get it. My MIL likes the pad Thai here and one time I ordered it... terrible. And their panang curry... wow... it was pretty much red sink water with a touch of coconut milk. read more

Boring and near meatless concoctions. Won ton soup? No strips of pork and the won ton meat is mysterious tasting. Pork fried rice? Barely a teaspoon of pork. Boneless spare ribs? Small (1/4 inch) bits of meat and fat, but not meaty strips (like normal boneless spare ribs). Entrees are just okay. The prices are good, but the food is meh. Food is really good. One of the better Chinese places in the area. I've only been here once so I don't have much experience with this place, but the service was quick (I picked up my food) and by the time I brought it home it was still hot. I went with my go to. General Tso, pork fried rice and chicken lo mein. I asked for the General Tso to be cooked extra crispy and extra spicy, as I always do, and it was spot on. They cooked it exactly how I like. It's really good food i don't understand all the reviews saying otherwise. Always has the best flavor and the ingredients seem to be higher quality than your standard take out place (if we're being realistic). interior is clean. no complaints there if you're someone who dines in. the thai food is tasty. I'm no thai expert but i can say with confidence that the Beef with mushroom off the thai section is one of the best items on the menu. I order it all the time. It's just that good. Anyway. I've been going here for years and have obviously tried many other places in the interim. Still, eastern empire beats them all. Recently starting working in the area and needed a good Chinese spot to order from, so i came across this restaurant on Yelp.... I would like to know just what the other reviewers are talking about?!? This has been BY FAR the WORST Chinese food I've ever eaten. I ordered the Sesame chicken as photo'd by someone else... Since when is chicken a dark brown color? extremely hard to eat.. tasted HORRIBLE, don't think that was even real chicken. Had a crunchy texture on the outside and a slimy brown "meat" on the inside. Not much to say about this restaurant, since 99% of all Chinese restaurants in the area are exact cookie-cutter copies of each other. What can be said is that Eastern Empire is probably one of the better (possibly the best) Chinese restaurants in the area. The restaurant is kept clean, the food is prepared quickly and fresh, and the staff have always been pretty friendly as well. A bonus is that the food isn't utterly swimming in grease, something a lot of the local options have yet to figure out. As others have pointed out, E.E. also has a small selection of Thai dishes. While these aren't exactly authentic by any means, they'll probably do the trick of satisfying a hunger for Thai cuisine, without the need to drive all the way into Red Bank for the real stuff. The only downside is that if you come in for a quick $5.76 lunch, be sure to have cash. There's no ATM anywhere to be found, and they have the rather annoying $10 minimum on credit policy. Is this the best Chinese I've ever had? No way, but it's the best I've managed to find in the area. I just wish they (or anybody) would offer a handfull of actually authentic Chinese dishes, instead of the typical overly sugared American stuff. My fault for having tried the 'real' stuff, I suppose. Best Chinese food in Eastern Monmouth County. Goes so far beyond the cookie cutter food available at the rest of the carry out joints. Ate there last night. Kids loved it, I loved it what more could you ask. The food was very fresh and was perfectly cooked. They spice their entrees much more liberally here so expect to be wowed when you dig in. Love the fact that they have a good selection of Thai food on the menu as well. I have always said you can judge a good Chinese restaurant on how they do the simple things. like egg rolls, and soups. My husband has been coming here since he was in high school, and he's always loved this place! It also looks a lot better these last few years after their new renovations. It is very good and consistent for Chinese take-out food. I am more used to traditional, authentic Chinese food, but I still have a few favorites on the menu, such as the Double Wonder and Beef Chow Fun (flat noodles). Was told they deliver, ordered the food. Online is not so easy. Then was charged $16 for delivering. If I new that I would not have given an 8 dollar tip for supposably a $ 52 dollar bill. Food was subpar for the price. Would not recommend this place read more
