What's going on here at Asia Star? I usually go out of my way to drive here for good Chinese food. Last nights meal was terrible! Vegetable lo mein tasted like it was sitting around for a week... It was mushy and had an odd taste. Completely inedible. Also had the crispy ginger chicken, which were large thin pieces of chicken that was so tough we could barely cut through it even with a knife. You know it must be bad when they give you knives at a Chinese restaurant. The only thing that was halfway decent was the Asia Star sampler that we had at the beginning. Other than that, we left both of the other dishes on the table, but no one bothered to ask us what was wrong. There is no point in asking for something else because at this point, we didn't even trust to eat the food there. It was a Saturday night and the place was empty. I don't know how they stay in business. Very disappointing that we now have to take this off of our rotation of restaurants we patron. read more

What a lovely meal we had there this evening. Both of our entrées were just delicious. Not just one of the mill Chinese food. The menu has so many different items. We were from out of town and wanted a good sushi spot. The sushi missed the mark. On two of the rolls the fish was chopping very finely then "squished" together. Been here twice for lunch & love the place. Very clean, more upscale for a local Chinese/Japanese place in this Neptune area. Once, we had the sushi and Chinese lunch specials and they were very filling & delicious. The specials come with miso soup and salad (carrot ginger dressing). The other time I went, I had Singapore Mei Fun and it was delicious too! I've had the same server both times and he's got a great attitude. Very funny guy. Just left the restaurant, and won't be coming back. Ordered a Kani salad and was shocked to open the bag and see about 2 spoon fulls in a box which they charged close to 7$ for. I walked back and showed it to what seemed like the owner..and asked him if he thought it was acceptable to give something like this to a customer and charge more then an actual japanese restaurant. Not sure how this place has positive reviews, or is even considered authentic Chinese. My close friend is Taiwanese, so I'm familiar with the cuisine. I stopped by for lunch and asked for Mongolian beef and chow mien, I basically wanted noodles. The waiter comes back with Drunken Noodles, how Thai and Chinese noodles are similar I have 0 idea. I politely explained what I wanted, and we went back and fourth 5 times, he finally explains I need to order "Lo-Mein," we're still not done. He then brings another lady who had the same conversation with me, I explained I wanted Chow-Mien, which isn't even an exotic Chinese entree, Panda Express has chow-mien! She then names another dish (not Lo-Mein) that I should order, so I said fine, whatever the Chow-Mien equivalent is. I then get a sad glass noodle dish, nothing was spicy (I specifically requested) and after 2 bites I decided to wrap up my sad lunch. This place is not worth the trip at all. read more

I love Asia Star and would consider myself a regular. My husband and I refer to Asia Star as expensive Chinese Food. Unlike other Chinese places you may order from Asia Star does not offer your typical $9.95 combo meals. All meat dishes come with a side of white rice only. You need to order al a carte but it is worth it. When ordering from Asia Star you never have to worry about questionable meat or feeling sick afterwards. The chicken is always white meat... even the General Tsos. They have the most tasty won ton soup and boneless ribs. What is great about Asia Star is they also offer sushi, bento boxes, some Thai dishes as well as udon noodles. I eat their sushi regularly and find it to always be fresh! Asia Star is consistent and you always know what to expect. Only once in a blue moon the food is a little bland but that is usually not the norm. Unfortunately they do not deliver so you can either eat in their restaurant or get take out. If calling for take out it usually takes about 15 min on avg but on a busy Saturday night closer to 30 minutes. Although I love the food here I do wish they would offer combo meals even if they have to be priced higher than $9.95. When ordering just for myself I sometimes tend to over order and spend a bit too much just to get the egg roll, fried rice and soup with my meal. Despite not offering combo meals I have not looked back at my cheaper Chinese restaurant. I guess white meat chicken comes with some set backs. read more

It was 9PM on a Monday night, I missed dinner and was getting hangry by the minute. I was in an area i'm not familiar with.... so I used my handy dandy yelp app to find a place that was still open and had good food. This place is a little gem! Decor - pretty and inviting Service - friendly and attentive Food - fresh, hot and delicious I started with wonton soup. It was very, very good... not too salty with large wontons, great flavor and a hint of scallions. I wasn't a fan of the crunchy noodles that came with the order because they tasted a bit oily, but they were still crispy so it's just my flavor preference. Then I had the Mongolian beef. It was delicious! Piping hot, tender meat, excellent flavor, crisp veggies and a little spicy kick. I thoroughly enjoyed it!!! My friend had the Pad Thai and said it was great as well. We use to be a fan but recent changes in attitude and their stinginess have left a bad taste (no pun intended) concerning the Asia Star. Be assured this place never was nor ever will be a five star dining experience as claimed by some of the foodies here. The food is served faster that a lightning bolt and usually tepid at that. Some of the dishes are just OK. But that said the problem herein lies with operations. You want water you have to ask for it, you want fried noodles you got to ask for it, not even a fortune cookie to be had here - cheap. My wife's plate cracked with with half of her main course being dumped out. They never replenished any of the food - cheap. When the bill comes however you see some of the steepest prices around. Once we would have given them a solid four stars but no more. Bottom line: Average food served too quickly and over priced. There are now a few alternatives here at the shore that provide better value and a better dining experience. read more

Great food. Most of the time when I ask a restaurant to make the food spicy the food comes out NOT spicy at all. But this time I Asked them to make my Singapore Mei fun spicy and they actually listened and it was delicious! To start we had the wonton soup which was delicious as well as the wings. If you love spicy food make sure to dip your wings in the sauce it comes with. The crab rangoon was also very good and the coconut cream sauce the crab Rangoon was placed on top of was a great accent. Asian Wonton soup - the noodles were so thin and light! The meat that was inside the dumpling were so tasty and fresh. Felt like they made this soup fresh for me. Salmon sushi - I love salmon but omg this was the best Ive had. It was sliced perfect and soooo fresh. I have never had better. California Roll - Also very good. Nothing to write home about but was very tasty. House LoMein - This dish has so much flavor without a ton of oil. Usually most lo mein dishes have a ton of greasy saucey mess on the plate when you're done but this did not. It was really great! Coconut Curry - (my husband ate this) He asked for it extra spicy and he was not disappointed. He loved the flavor tho he did wish there was just a tad more sauce. ( didnt stop him from eating the whole thing ! ) Over all the service was great, the waiter was very helpful and knowledge when we asked about menu items. He kept our water glasses filled and was very attentive. The little Chinese crunchy noodles they gave as small app and the orange they give at the end where nice touches too ! I often come here for lunch or early dinner by myself and I find the staff is always friendly and the food comes out quick, no matter the amount of people in the restaurant. I've tried quite a few things on the menu and nothing has left me disappointed. I love the variety and usually find myself ordering multiple appetizers for my meal. My favorites are the Yellowtail Jalapeño roll (great combination of spicy sauces), Mango Lobster roll (anything with that mango sauce, really!), Malaysian Spicy Chicken soup, and the spinach/goat cheese spring roll. read more

No sir I didn't like it. Special soup for two was plentiful but not so special. Salty, little shrimps, bok choy pieces blah, egg white broth. Sampler spring rolls filling too fibrous, crab Rangoon too doughy and chewy. Three musketeers had chicken scallops and shrimp and came with a warning spicy . We asked for no spicy but got EXTRA spicy . Sent it back and we are speculating what happened next. The food came back instantly. We believe it was rinsed and replaced on the dish with new sauce. Gourmet chinese food ! Every time after a long weekend of drinking from back to back weddings we were craving chinese. We usually order from your typical chinese food place and expect mediocre food at best. A friend of ours recommend we try out Asia Star and WOW thats all I can say. The staff was super friendly and the place was very clean from what I can tell. ( we did take out ) when we got home and broken into the dishes both my fiance and i were blown away. WHITE MEAT chicken for once and not heavily breaded ! We got an order of veggie fried rice, egg rolls, a mango dragon roll, chicken and broccoli & general tsos chicken. I couldn't even begin to tell you what tasted better, everything was great !! We will for sure be returning to this place ! read more
