How quickly they have fallen. Ming Ying is in my short rotation for ordering Chinese food. It being a Tuesday, I tilted to them. I have eaten here for years. The Shrimp Won Ton soup is excellent. Love the thin won tons. Last night we ordered Chicken with Bok Choy and Shrimp with Lobster Sauce. The Chicken order had the rice inserted into the plastic food container. Not only did the rick take up half the container, but all of the sauce drained into the rice. AWFUL!!!!! You put the rice into a separate container. ALWAYS! And I was charged full price for half a dish. My wife's Lobster Sauce was watery. Just pisspoor execution on that dish. It may have even had some wine in it. But watery as hell. You've lost a customer. King Chef across the street will be our choice on Tuesday's from now on when Eastern Empire is closed. read more

Got takeout here on a Saturday night. When we walked in to place our order, the place was busy. They had a ton of cooks in the back, and several workers in the front taking orders. We placed our order and they said it would be ready in about 10 minutes. There are a few tables in the place to sit in and eat, but it just seems too busy with orders and people coming in to pick up to enjoy sitting inside. Our order was ready within the 10 minutes. We ordered General Tso's Chicken and an order of steamed shrimp dumplings. The order came to around $30. You get a generous amount of chicken for the General Tso's. It took us about 10 minutes to get to where we were eating. The coating lost a little bit of its crispness, but the overall flavor was very good. The steamed shrimp dumplings were so so good. The sauce to dip them in...mmmm mmmm good. The shrimp was good and not fishy at all (I have been having bad luck lately with having shrimp out and it being too "fishy". The food was solid. This place has been around for years. They know how to do Chinese food right. Will be back. read more

The food lacked much flavor and bothe the enrolls and crab Rangoon were wrapped in too many wonton wrappers (making them very dry and chewy). We ordered a pint of pork fried rice, a pint of beef lo mein, crab rangoon, egg rolls, and the plain chicken with mixed veggies and brown rice (which does come with a sauce on the side, so we tried the curry sauce). I will say it was a nice option to get a sauce on the side that isn't made with cornstarch, and the curry sauce was pretty good....but watered down once added to the very flat chicken and over cooked veggies soaked in the water the were cooked it. The lo mein was pretty good too, and the rice was well cooked....but just those few items we go cost $80 and the portions were not large at all! We probably wouldn't go back. read more

I live in Asbury and have been looking for a good, hell even decent, Chinese place to no avail. Until today! Everyone said it would take at least an hour. If it's as god as ever Ken says I don't mind the wait. Especially coming from Long Branch. It was here in 35 mins and steaming hot!! I ordered the mango chicken and boneless ribs. Both are delicious. I did ask to make it spicy and there is hardly any spice at all but now I know next time to order xx spicy. Chicken is tender and the mangos are sliced thin and freshly cut. Very disappointed in the food during this difficult time. Ordered roast pork fried rice, Kung po shrimp and Szechuan beef. All were not good. The roast pork rice was dry and had no flavor. Kung po was also not tasty and they forgot the peanuts. Shrimp was fine. The beef was also not tasty. They ran out of white meat chicken and pork dumplings. The place has gone down hill. (I think I was supposed to get an egg roll but not sure if they forgot.) The combo deal came to little over $10. If you decide to eat in rather than takeout, they serve your food in nice plates and bowls like you are in a restaurant. The Hot and Sour soup was very hearty -chock full of tender chicken, tofu, bamboo shoots, mushrooms. The soup base has a good flavor but is definitely healthier tasting, meaning lower on salt and vinegar. I prefer this recipe, but I can see how it would seem "bland" to others. Okay, I am not big on American Chinese food and Ming Ying is one of those places, but I have to give them the five stars. Monmouth University student take out vocab: Nelly's and Ming Ying. Enough said! The first time I ever ordered take out at MU was Ming Ying...and it was also my last ever delivery before I graduated. I always order the chicken and broccoli with white rice and a wonton soup (sometimes an egg roll..depends on my mood) and it is just enough for delivery. When I was on campus they were always quick and when I moved off they were the same! At first the people picking up the phone didn't have quite good English, but as the years progressed they realized their weakness and hired locals to pick up the phone. Can't complain there. Bottom Line: If you're a Monmouth student you won't get a better bang for your buck than Ming Ying when it comes to cheap/good/quick/Chinese take out in the area. Peking and all the other places don't even compare. I remember one time I ordered delivery in the blistering snow and they still delivered! It was quick too! The owner is very nice and if he knows you're an MU student when you go in for pick up he may give you a free soda. However, if you're asian you are almost guaranteed a free soda haha. Food is fine but the delivery driver gave us the wrong order and we had opened it up and started eating some before realizing. But we called to get our actual order and when the new driver came with the correct order he started getting angry with us and asking for the original(wrong) order back, even though it was half eaten and had been opened. He tried to get us to pay back even though that order was 3x the price. He took back our half eaten food and opened container and kept looking at the receipt. It appeared as though he was going to give this food to another customer. Ming Ying owned by Jonny, who is always manning the helm inside the joint, will greet and welcome his guests, not only because he is happy to have business walk through the door, just he's a genuinely good guy. The other Chinese food places in NJ don't hold a candle to what Jonny does here in Ming Ying. His recipes are the best in the industry, and his team creates their dishes with their heart and soul. If you have ever tried to cook something in the kitchen before and ruined a dish? -well that is because you either sucked or did not cook it with love. The chefs at Ming Ying deliver excellent food that is cooked with love and attention to detail because they care about their craft. While I hated paying for an outrageous sum for delivery the food made up for it. I had the shrimp wonton soup which was flavorful and tasty. Next I had the spicy wonton and for once they actually were spicy the way I like them. My entree was chicken Beijing and while tasty I wish they made it as spicy as the spicy wonton dish. I ordered the Shrimp Dumpling Soup which was to die for ..definitely the best dumplings I have ever had and the portions are huge, My wife had the Chicken Corn soup OMG it was delicious loaded with sweet corn & fresh garlic YUM! So, I'm going to start by prefacing that I only gave one star because zero was not an option. To say that I was disappointed in this experience is to say that World War II was a squabble. There is no reason whatsoever that it should take 2 hours to deliver food from anywhere, much less somewhere down the road, and the food was bland and cold when it arrived. The customer service was the worst I have ever experienced. The manager hung up on me several times, stopped answering my calls when he recognized my out of state area code, and told me straight up that he didn't care what I thought. The driver then attempted to take the food away from us, only stopping following us when I threatened to call the police for harassment. I think in general, this place is a little overrated. For the most part they are just putting out the same Chinese American stuff as the others. With their regular dishes, I haven't ever really felt like they're putting out a superior product compared to the others in our area. However, they do have a secret weapon on their menu that brings me back time and again. Shrimp Wontons / Dumplings. No one else in our area has anything like this, and it's absolutely delicious. Food took almost an hour and half to be delivered. When i called after 50 min i was told the driver left 10 minutes ago and she hung up. I live 15 min away. After another 30 min my food arrived. When i answered the door the deliver driver was a little sketchy and says "did you order food?" I said yes. He hands me the food and just stands there. I paid with a CC so i asked is there a receipt to sign? He said nothing to sign. And then proceeds to say "no tip for delivery?" I actually had cash to tip the driver which i would have handed him after signing the receipt but everything i just closed and locked my door. The food was very cold and i had to reheat.
