On a search for a healthy-ish early dinner before a local event, Yelp brought me to Ocean Cafe! I was actually looking for a cafe/coffee shop that serves food, but luckily the "cafe" search added this spot to the list. They were not too busy when I stopped in, so I was able to get my order in right away. And I do have to say the woman that took my order was so kind and helpful! She even helped me track down another open spot to grab a coffee! I went with the salmon sandwich and it was SO GOOD!! Salmon was perfectly cooked and so flavorful and all of the sauces and other bits in it were delicious. It came on soft french bread with mango, avocado, dill, cucumber, tomatoes, mixed greens, lemon juice and extra virgin olive oil. Kind of my perfect sandwich. They have half and whole sizes, the whole is most likely going to be perfect for two meals, if not one big and very filling meal. They are a block from the beach so I know parking can be tough in this area in the summer, but on a December weekday it was easy! The vibe inside is clean but very casual. I was looking for a good place to eat off campus when I found the Ocean's Cafe, and it was a very pleasant surprise! If you're looking for a healthy option, this is the place to go. It is on the pricey side and the portions aren't the biggest, but it is delicious! I've gone here 3 times, their chicken soup on a cold day is the way to go. The staff is always really upbeat and friendly, and they have a lot of options on their menu, so you'll definitely find something you'd like. I have been going to ocean cafe for a several years now. Even though I left the area a few years ago, I still go there a few times a month whenever I go there to visit my mom. The quality of the foods has gone down a bit since they moved to the new location. I was still ok with a few original wraps and rolls, chilies. I wanted to try something different today so, I decided to go with chicken pad Thai. Yelp menu said adding chicken is $2 extra. When I went to the cafe to pick it up, they gave me a grilled chicken breast ovet rice noodles mashed up with big chucks eggs and scallions. The sauce was very sweet and rice noodles were stuck together. I am guessing that this is their version of fusion pad Thai?! If that is the case then, please don't call this pad Thai!! Because this is not! On top of that, they charged m.e 19$!! Charged for a side of grill chicken for $4. I go to the famous Thai place in Brooklyn(the sea) and, their real chicken pad Thai is $13!! I love their chicken summer roll with their peanut sauce! They have a good selection of soups and a chili that people love. Service isn't great here. They tend to be in their own world on their phones and eating. You often have to find them for your bill. There are 2 waitresses in their late 20s or early 30s I really like but the younger girls are very inattentive. Prices are very reasonable and fair. Great little place in the West End section of long Branch. Decided to check it out on a recent trip to visit my niece. I started off with a bowl of split pea soup, which is a favorite. It was delicious! Nice & thick, not runny. I decided to try their chicken chili as well. It was very good as well. These ladies were quite busy with takeout orders in between waiting the tables. A cute little cafe by Long Branch beach. Just up the road from pier village! I went here for lunch with some friends after a nice day at the beach! Great service and seating. But the food is a little off. NOTE: I went here a year ago, not sure if they have changed their recipes/method of cooking!! I ordered a pad thai with tofu! It was a little funky, but I tried to like it. Wasn't bad, but just... interesting. First, they didn't even use the right noodles (rice noodles). Not sure what noodles they used but it was too sticky and not right. Overall, the ingredients were okay. Had the usual stuff you found in pad Thai like carrots, onions, and bean sprouts, but also some other stuff like fried onions which I liked. The off part was that the dish was unusually sweet. I thought it was just me but I asked my friends who got wraps and their food was a little too sweet too. I know I came into an American place ordering pad Thai, so I didn't have the highest expectations but dang. It was really weird. Wouldn't order again. After finding out and trying some of my friends' food was sweet too not sure if I would come back for the food. While vacationing with my friends we decided to stop at Ocean Cafe via the recommendation of my close friend. We were surprised to see the price and were hesitant at first, but quickly realized that we had just uncovered a hidden gem of long branch. We ordered a few different foods and loved everything we got. You could tell the staff cared about us by the lime carefully in the water. First, the address is incorrect on here. They're around the corner on Brighton St. Stumbled upon this place through Yelp while visiting a loved on at the nearby hospital. I had the chicken sriracha and hubby had a chicken and shrimp wrap. Hubby loved his wrap and my meal was amazing and about twice as big as I was expecting; definitely couldn't get near finishing. Chicken was tender and tasty, the grilled veggies were perfect. Not as spicy as I'd hoped for, but in all honesty, I've never found a place that cooks to my level of spice so that's not an issue. While we were there, there was plenty of phone orders, but we were the only people in the cafe so it was nice and quiet. Manager was on staff and was very friendly and attentive. Plenty of vegetarian options, so we are looking forward to take our teenager when we go back. read more

I've never had a bad experience here or at their other locations in Red Bank and Shrewsbury. Great place to grab some food if you're looking for tasty, healthy options. I always get the tuna steak roll cooked rare. It always fills me up since it's packed with protein, but it is a little small. If you're going to order one of their summer rolls, you might want to get something else with it. I recommend their delicious chicken lettuce wraps, one of their hearty soups, or one of their huge salads with awesome homemade dressing (Vietnamese salad is A++). read more

Liked the wraps and salads here, even the pad thai! This place has such a diverse menu that there is something for everyone. My husband had the low fat tuna wrap he loved. I tasted the veggie pad thai, my kids seemed to like it. I had the eggplant panini which was good but the balsamic sauce and the mayo pesto made it even better. The eggplant was sliced very thick and the tomatoes as well. The whole panini fell a part but it tasted good. The avocado wrap was light and delish as well. Service however was not good, waitress was abrupt, didn't ask if we wanted more water, and was a little lazy spending her time behind the counter. I hope she wasn't preparing the food and serving it! One of my absolute favorite places to eat in the world! This cafe makes the BEST soups in the world. I went to school around this cafe and probably ate there at least once a week. Now that I live an hour north, whenever I am driving south, no matter where I am going I make a point to stop at Ocean Cafe and order in bulk to take my favorite soup home to freeze. The Butternut Squash soup is my favorite! No other restaurant I have tried thus far, makes Butternut Squash soup quite like Ocean Cafe does! In addition ALL the food is amazing. Love this place. I've been to the Shrewsbury location as well and they are both delicious. Tons of healthy/vegetarian/vegan options, very fast service and absolutely delicious. Everything tastes very fresh and I love the bread they use. Try the portobello mushroom soup, it's so delicious and not overly creamy or heavy. I'm told the chicken chili is awesome as well. Love the vegan sandwich as well as the summer rolls and the buckwheat salad. I can't wait until it's warmer so I can try the juices (too cold these days!) Never waited longer than 10 minutes for a pickup order, even when it's the busy lunch hour. Give this place a try! Update: I don't know if the hours of this location change after the summer ends but their website still says they are open until 8. I called to order some dinner to pickup on my way to work (I work at night) around 6:40 and the person on the phone was really rude and told me "The kitchen is already closing" I said "oh I thought you closed at 8" and she sighed and said "no. 7." Ocean Cafe is as legit as it gets for healthy quick food if you are in the Long Branch area. I'm one of those people who've eaten at 100s of restaurants throughout my life. I have eaten fondue in Switzerland, Chateaubriande in Paris a block from the Eiffel Tower, warmed up with a delicious meal at China Grill in the heart of NYC on the coldest windiest day, the most delicious pasta at Il Mulino and Chef Volo's in Atlantic City, Asia De Cuba breakfast poolside at the Mondrian while overlooking LA as the sun rises, the legendary burger at the Beverly Hills Hotel(def my fav burger yet), many steaks at the Golden Steer in Vegas right next to wear Elvis used to eat his own, the 15 course meal at Joel Robuchon in Vegas, I'm sure you get the point. I've had many different food experiences in over 7 countries and 30 states, even a few at Michelin rated restaurants, and I've worked at numerous fine dining establishments all over Monmouth County when I was younger. I love food. I love that it brings people together. I love healthy and tasty foods, as well as some that are not so healthy. Bottom line, I'm fairly qualified to judge a restaurant and its service. When in my home state working long days at the local hospital doing my best to help save lives, I have no choice but to eat healthy and eat quick. The closest, healthiest, quickest option is this hidden gem, Ocean Cafe. There is not one thing I don't like on their menu. Every single thing is delicious, and most importantly its EASY to eat healthy and actually enjoy your food here. Many people think eating healthy has to taste bland or bad or be unenjoyable. This is simply not true. Every single thing here is tasty and reasonably priced. The service is phenomenal. For anyone whos in a rush you can call in your order and pick it up 10-15 minutes later and call when you are there and they will walk your order right out to your car which is great for people like me who are working long days and need something healthy and quick I can eat while driving home from work. Some of the things I enjoy are the avocado wrap, chicken chili, the tuna steak summer roll, and the pina colada and tropical smoothies. They have parking in front and additional parking out back as well. Maybe most important of all is when you are there you get the feeling their general manager Gina really cares about the place and she pours her heart and soul into managing the place so she can help their customers live better and healthier lives.
