I was surprised to find that there's not a lot of delis down the shore (or at least in Asbury Park area). This is the exact kind of deli I was looking for. They do classic hot and cold subs, but they also have specialty subs where they do parms, wraps, etc. Great to pick up a sub and go to the beach. I enjoyed the American - which is roast beef, lettuce, tomato, provolone, onions, and horseradish mayo (which I left off and did oil and vinegar instead). Roast beef pretty soft in texture. We Thought this place would be better in Long Branch- but it was pricy and just eh. Not much flavor. The Two large subs were about $45 ish for deli meat ( Boars Head) and apparently an extra additional charge when I paid by credit card. ( which I found out after I paid so more expensive after the fact when I paid. ) Not thinking will go back.... When there are some other deli subs places better and cheaper. read more

While visiting the Long Branch area, I dedicated to stop by here, to try their cheesesteak. I recently saw an article from NJ.com, and they rated this cheesesteak one of the best in NJ. So, since I love a good cheesesteak, I had to try this one. I came on a Friday afternoon, and it wasn't too busy. I ordered the large cheesesteak special. Which came with onions, peppers, and mushrooms all chopped into the meat. The portion of the sandwich was large, so you get a lot for your money. Now, for the taste of the meat, it was delicious. It was cooked and seasoned well, and I really enjoyed that it was chopped thinly with the onions, peppers, and mushrooms, all mixed in with the cheese. I loved the roll that they used as well. The sandwich was just awesome and so good. I can see why it was rated one of the best and makes a top contender for me, too. My mom and I love Neil's Kitchen! It is one of our favorite places to grab lunch before heading to the beach. We typically get a half size of the American sandwich which comes with roast beef, provolone, L&T, red onion, and horse radish mayo. It also comes with a little cup of the tastiest macaroni salad as well and a pickle spear. I typically like to order an extra 1/4 pound of macaroni salad on the side as well. It typically it takes about 15-20 minutes for my order to be ready, so definitely call in advance if you are in a rush or just don't feel like waiting. There are some tables and chairs inside as well if you are looking to dine in. I would love to try something new off of their menu, but the American sandwich never disappoints. How could I change my order when it's already so satisfying?! If I could change one thing; however, it is the roast beef. I prefer a nice pink roast beef whereas the roast beef on this sandwich tends to be more so on the well done side. They get five stars for their macaroni salad alone. I wish I had brought a cooler with me so I could have brought some back home! They have a lot of set sandwiches listed on the board, and I had read some of the reviews beforehand, but I just went with what I was feeling when I was there: turkey, spinach, mozz, and roasted peppers. Everything tasted fresh, and the bread was pretty excellent as well. It wasn't too soft, but not too hard either (I could have done with a little bit more bite, but my teeth would have paid the price later), and it comes with a tiny 1/4 lb serving of their macaroni salad, which is the bomb. It is light on the mayo, has bits of carrots and celery, and isn't mushy. I don't know if they make their own pickles, but I don't care, because they serve their sandwiches with a giant quarter spear! It's relatively cheap - my half sandwich and peach Snapple was $11? If you want cheaper, you'll get cheaper, and you know what I mean. I will be back every time I am in Long Branch... and with a cooler. I took Sue on a bit of a nostalgic trip to the Jersey shore. On the west coast where we live now we go to the coast. Growing up in NJ we went down the shore. This was a down the shore trip. We made our way from points south and found ourselves in Long Branch around lunchtime. A Yelp search took us to Neil's Kitchen. Sue wanted to go to an Italian deli. This was the closest I was able to do on this trip. We each got a sandwich and drink. I opted for Neil's Favorite ($7.50 for a small which was a good size). Prosciutto, fresh mozzarella and roasted red peppers topped with balsamic and oil. If I see this sandwich on a menu I usually go for it. It is a very simple sandwich, but still one of my favorites. The version here was good. Had plenty of meat and cheese and the roll kept up throughout the eating part of the meal. read more
