There was a slightly awkward moment at the entrance: a sign told us to wait to be seated, but no one was there to greet us. Instead, a man behind the bar called out from across the room to ask how many were in our party, then simply told us to "sit anywhere." It wasn't a big deal, but it felt a little off-putting and impersonal. As for the food: The wonton soup had good flavor but was just warm which was disappointing on a freezing cold day when a hot bowl of soup would have hit the spot. The pork bun and dumplings were delicious. The tea was also very good, and the overall service was prompt and efficient. It's a solid place with a friendly atmosphere and tasty dishes. The general tsos chicken could have been more crispy, but I appreciated that they weren't just half breading. The vegetable lo mein was good, but the string beans were covered with pork. The menu doesn't state anything about pork, and I don't eat red meat. I didn't want to make it inconvenient, especially after Freddy had been so friendly and generous, so I just scraped off the pork. The hot and sour soup also had bits of pork in it, though it is normally vegetarian. Wonderful service and food, just wished the menu was more clear.

I was in the mood for some Chinese take-out, and found Shing Loon. Right off the bat, it was helpful that they were one of not many Chinese joints open on Monday, so that is definitely something to note. Another great factor in their service was how quick my food came out. I think I waited about 5-6 minutes for my order to be ready, which was helpful considering I only get an hour long lunch break. I got there just in time for the lunch special, which was also a plus. I ordered the sesame chicken lunch special, which came with your choice of rice and your choice of soup. I got it with the pork fried rice and wonton soup. I also got an egg roll and an order of their fried crab rangoons (which I order every time I get Chinese take-out). I started with the wonton soup. It was okay, definitely could have used just a pinch more of salt in the broth, but the wontons themselves were not too bad. Next I moved onto the crab rangoons. They had a nice crunch to them, but could have probably used a bit more filling. The sauce they came with was pretty standard. I then moved on to my main dish, the sesame chicken and pork fried rice. At first glance, it didn't look too appealing, however let me assure you, looks are deceiving. The rice had great flavor, and i always love when places add white onion to the fried rice. The chicken was also pretty decent, with a great tasting sauce coating it. Overall, I was pretty happy with it. I started eating my egg roll around this time, but I wasn't really the biggest fan of it, I actually only had about 2-3 bites of it. To sum it up, the food was pretty average, with the main dish being the best. As far as the ambiance, jt was pretty slow and empty, but considering it was a Monday at around 2pm, I would take that stat with a grain of salt. I'm sure that definitely helped allow them to get my food prepared as quick as they did, so I definitely won't complain. It was also very quiet in there, I would definitely recommend getting some music to play softly in the background. Overall, I'm going to give Shing Loon a 3/5 star rating. They have a few things that could be improved, as mentioned above, but in a pinch I would definitely be back.
