I see there are a lot of poor reviews for China Moon and I really don't know why. Is this the best Chinese in the area - no - but they are certainly respectable and hold their own. I also want to note that this place is open pretty late. I was there at 9:30 on a Tuesday evening and they were packed with people waiting for their food while the phone was still ringing off the hook with orders coming in. I ordered the egg drop soup, spring rolls and the szechuan wonton. I was happy with all three. Again - they definitely weren't the best I've ever had, but they all hit the spot and made me happy. Ok so I ordered from this place today. I'm very sad this place wasted my time. I ordered pork fried rice and a order of chicken wings. The wings tasted like they were fried old ass grease. The rice was very dry and tasted like it was old. I never leave reviews but the quality of this food wasn't for for a dog to eat ! read more

I have only experienced their food through doordash, so I can't comment on ambiance or decor or anything. But food-wise, I have very high standards for Chinese food because I just moved here from NYC. In fact I was extremely reluctant to try a Chinese restaurant in the New Jersey burbs. I finally bit the bullet though and decided to try this restaurant in Red Bank because I found that Red Bank has high standards for other cuisines, such as Mexican. I ordered two different kinds of dumplings, as well as sesame chicken and orange beef--thinking they would be litmus tests. Well, everything was rather exceptional. The chicken in the sesame chicken, for example, managed to be crispy. And neither of the meat entrees were oversauced. Everything tasted fresh. China moon is our go to for local Chinese. They have the standard take out menu and everything is pretty good so far. It's what you would expect from a take out Chinese place. The egg rolls are great. The general tso's is pretty good. The chicken and broccoli can be a little hit or miss. Wonton soup is amazing. The kung pao chicken needs to be way spicier - I asked for it spicy and it wasn't hot at all. But we'll keep coming here. read more

I go to China Moon whenever I am visiting my sister in the Grandville Towers across the street! Good food, plenty of it and quick service. Usually get the Sweet Sour Chix, Pork or Chix Egg Foo Young, Beef Broccoli. Never had a bad meal and usually have leftovers for another snack. Friendly people. read more

I found out about this place when shadowing an actor at the local off-broadway theater, and honestly? I've never had anything better tasting from *any* restaurant in my 23+ years of traveling. I've been to high end restaurants, local hot spots, and homey hole-in-the-walls from Saratoga, NY down to Maryland, from the Jersey Shore to Columbus, OH... And this tops basically everything. The only place better is literally Walt Disney World. No matter what we order, it's always top quality and perfectly cooked, it always arrives piping hot, and everyone there is always super nice. They've even done some minor customization to orders for us -- my dad always orders things 7-10 times the regular amount of spice cause he's a hot pepper fiend. Of everything, I'd probably have to recommend their spring rolls -- they're perfectly crunchy and thin, and one order is just the right size. But honestly? There's something on their menu for everyone. And the prices can't be beat! 10/10, five stars, best place I've ever ordered from or eaten at~ read more

My daughter ordered her usual chicken on a stick. Got it delivered and was burnt. Called to ask for another meal to be sent out. I was told the chicken always looks burnt. This is an absolute lie, usually more reddish brown and moist. This time dry. And black. They offered refund rather than remake the meal. Guess they don't care about pleasing their customers. This sorry excuse for a 'restaurant' should truly feel pretty damn embarrassed. The fact that they're still in business actually comes as a shock to me. By far, the most disgusting, bland, sorry excuse for Chinese food. I had ordered a simple meal: tofu over vegetables and vegetable fried rice-things that shouldn't be too hard to mess up on...apparently, it's not too hard for them to mess up on. The tofu and vegetables were mind-numbingly bland but what gets me the most is that what they call 'fried rice' is actually yellow rice that has no taste whatsoever and no vegetables other than peas and onions actually in it. Now, tell me, have you ever heard of using YELLOW FCKING RICE in a Chinese dish? No? Because it's not how it's made. A month or so ago I treated friends to their choice of garlic chicken. Never having had that I ordered that too. It was so bad! I asked my friends what they thought of it and they agreed then asked where I bought it so they would not make the same mistake and go there one day. Yesterday I tried them again, you know a second chance, ordered beef lo mein with veggies. This is what I got: a great pile of noodles with lots and lots and lots of grease gravy, maybe 5 small slivers of beef, maybe just maybe a tiny bit of onion. NO vegetables, none, zip, zero, zilch, $9.49. Anyone who cooks at all could have spent $.50 on that meal. So will they get a third try? I don't think so! read more

When you want them to make it spicy, you have to ask for "extra extra extra" spicy for them to oblige. No gimmicks, no declarations of being "gourmet". This is a dingy hole-in-the-wall takeout joint in a strip mall, so I'm betting most people don't think much of it at first glance. However, appearances can be deceiving, because this is probably one of the better quick American Chinese meals I've had. Lunch specials are incredibly reasonable, ranging from $5 to $6 for ample portions. Both Beef with Black Bean Sauce and Home Style Bean Curd taste fresh and flavorful, and the Wonton soup that comes with the meal is tasty, if a bit oily. Even the rice has a nice flavor to it, elevating it above the filler that often comes on the side of Chinese food. This is definitely more of a take-out place than a dine-in place - there are only four tables, some of which are wobbly. Still, if you're willing to put up with the setting, you'll be rewarded with one of the few excellent cheap eats in Red Bank. read more
