We visited here for the first time yesterday for Valentine's Day. We sat near the front so with it being winter it was cold when the door would open. They should add another door at the entrance. We started off with Wonton soup. The flavor and texture of the meat and dumplings were delicious for me and I'm picky. The issue was the broth wasn't very hot. And it could use more flavor in the broth. Next the pan seared pork dumplings. They were delicious also and the dipping sauce tasty sweet and as it should be. I ordered the sesame chicken and it was a nice large portion of amazing white meat. As I said I am picky with texture and meat and this was the best I've had out for sesame chicken. That said, my meal was not hot for a fried dish. My dates meal was hot but lacked flavor it was like a garlic type sauce. He ordered the Bistro 3 delicacies. I still have it a 4 star because I've had terrible food before this just needs a little help and timing. I will chalk it up to being a holiday and busy. This is a reastaurant with friendly service and tasty food, with a few small quirks. We stopped at Beijing Bistro on a whim and had a pleasant overall experience. The server was extremely friendly, truly a standout, warm, attentive, and just wonderful throughout our visit. There was a slightly awkward moment at the entrance: a sign told us to wait to be seated, but no one was there to greet us. Instead, a man behind the bar called out from across the room to ask how many were in our party, then simply told us to "sit anywhere." It wasn't a big deal, but it felt a little off-putting and impersonal. As for the food: The wonton soup had good flavor but was just warm which was disappointing on a freezing cold day when a hot bowl of soup would have hit the spot. The pork bun and dumplings were delicious. The tea was also very good, and the overall service was prompt and efficient. It's a solid place with a friendly atmosphere and tasty dishes. Despite the small oddities, I'd say it's definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. read more

We were Very disappointed in our meal. In the heart of Red Bank - we thought we would give it a shot- The food was not very good or tasty -very plain and was not hot at all. We thought it was possibly reheated and not very fresh. It was Not at all authentic Chinese and I ( we) left unsatisfied and a bit hungry. Excellent! We ended up here by accident, as Red Bank parking is so awful we couldn't get within blocks of the first choice. Parked right across from Tiffany, and walked right in was seated. The mixed appetizer platter had THE best satays I've ever had, thin wrappers on the frued dumplings, calamari and egg rolls above average. My main, ma po tofu-delicious AND a huge portion. Giant shrimp were also delicious. The room can get a bit loud though-but overall terrific. read more

Kind of a hidden gem amongst all the restaurants in Red Bank, Beijing Bistro is one of my favorites. Great asian fusion menu, of which I've tried many items. The pan-fried pork dumplings and pork belly steamed buns are my favorite apps, often ordering both for myself. I've had the peking duck several times, and although it's meant to serve several people, i often attack it myself, and simply go home with extra duck tacos for lunch the next day or two. The other popular favorites like pepper steak, sesame chicken, etc, are portioned for sharing, as well. The food stands out, but the service is also impeccable, and being a BYO, it is also extremely affordable, and my wife and I can eat like kings, bring home leftovers, and walk out for less than a c-note. This is my second time feeling disappointed with Temple take out. When we order, we are very specific: steamed chicken & broccoli with sauce on the side. Both times we got home to find we had gotten chicken & broccoli sautéed with the sauce. When my husband went back to pick up what we had asked for, they asked him to bring back what he originally picked up-what were they going to do with food that had left their premises? My husband didn't want to drive home again to get the original food, so he ended up paying for the corrected order. This is so wrong. And it has happened to us twice. Visiting Redbank and dined here for the 1st time. My wife and I both started with a delicious generous portion of soup. I will say that the wontons were amazing. We then shared the Beijing duck. It was outstanding and could have fed 3. As of 3/23, they did not have a liquor license. Although they do allow BYB which we did not know, no fault of theirs. I'm sure there are some Non-Americanized Chinese dishes but the menu is too small to accommodate a decent variety. Lacks atmosphere and no liquor license despite having a beautiful bar area. We went to Bejing Pavilion the day after Valentine's Day to avoid the crowds. We were not disappointed. Our server was attentive and friendly, the lettuce wrap appetizer was delicious and arrived quickly. The entrees were even better, we had Grand Marnier Chicken and Black Pepper Filet Mignon. i had dinner there again, last Saturday, with a Family member and, once again, Beijing Bistro did not disappoint. Ryan, met us at the door and led us to our table with Tina was our server. The menu and service was most welcoming. The food preparations, most creative. I tried the Egg Roll Filet Mignon; my Family member ordered the Chicken and Beef skewers, Satay. For our entre....I ordered the Garlic Shrimp with Asparagus and my Family member ordered Crispy Steak Tangerine. All menu items were outstanding. Having a "white linen table cloth" Chinese Restaurant is rare to find these days as so many are "take out only" with subpar cuisine. The BYOB is also an attractive feature here. Five star egg rolls! I heard about the filet mignon egg rolls so I had to stop in when passing through. I'm happy to say they lived up to their reputation. Unlike so many Chinese egg rolls, these were not greasy. The exterior consisted of a nice thick pastry with an interior consisting of bits of filet mignon and densely packed cabbage. Fantastic! My fiancé and I wanted to check out Beijing Bistro ever since Temple closed. We made reservations on OpenTable and I am glad we did because they were busy on a Saturday night. Our first impression of the restaurant was not off to the best start when the hosted ignored us and the owner had to remind her to do her job and greet us. We looked at the menu and when our waiter came over to take our order we asked him if he had any recommendations for appetizers, but he wasn't definitive on any and same went for the entrées. We ordered the Egg Chicken Corn Soup and it came out lukewarm. I wish they had crispy wonton chips to put in the soup, but they did not. We got the Pork Belly Buns and they were so flavorful and delicious. The pork belly was very tender. Our entrées were huge proportions and I was happy that for my dietary restrictions they were able to accommodate the sauce on the side for the Chicken with Broccoli. My fiancé enjoyed his Crispy Steak Tangerine and said it was very flavorful. The other downside was we ordered brown rice with our main courses, which is $2.00 extra and we never received the brown rice. My fiancé said he would eat the white rice without a problem. When the bill came the table we had to talk to the waiter about removing it, which he did. We left with a takeout bag full of leftovers. I wouldn't recommend wasting your money going here. It tasted like most of the food was previously frozen and just heated up. We ordered the calamari to start and not only did it not look anything like calamari it tasted rubbery and was very chewy. The pork belly buns were delicious but about the only thing worth going here for. For entrees we ordered the chicken imperial which was tasty, peppercorn chicken which looked like chicken nuggets heated up and does not come with a sauce! The pork fried rice was nothing special with hardly any flavor. The pork looked nothing like pork I've ever seen in Chinese food. The girl serving our food was confused when she brought our food and asked if we wanted white rice which our waiter told us comes with the main dishes. Why ask if you told us it comes with our food? Very odd and service was not that great for a place that was half empty on peak Friday night! Would not recommend to anyone wanting half way decent Chinese food. read more

It was the best Chinese I've had in the Red Bank area, by far, over the 20 years I've lived here. They will open the wine for you and bring you a cooler bucket for any wines that need to be chilled. We were at Bejing Bistro (formerly Temple Gourmet) last night as we were fans for at least 7 years -- (don't remember when it opened). It was superb! We were greeted by Dillon (very professional) with Lindsay as our waitress. Our service was impeccable. The food --- absolutely as good as we've always enjoyed in these last years. We loved Temple and will continue there in their new ownership. Actually, we found the old owner trying to rush us out at times.... uncomfortable feeling and of course, not welcoming at all. Last night we felt like we lived there. The staff could not be more accommodating -- we asked for changes to 2 out of 4 meals and it was not a problem ... AND DELICIOUS. I'm feeling bad for them to see some negative reviews in the chefs new undertaking ... and I can't help but wonder if there is bad blood and 'paid for' reviews that are poor. This is a really good gourmet Asian restaurant with the same chef (who is paying his bills)....... what could have possibly changed? Shame, shame on the old owner if he has anything to do with these negative reviews of a place that is truly a winner!!! read more
