I don't like to give restaurants bad reviews but eating at Photage was uniquely disappointing. It's usually disappointing to eat Vietnamese food in Los Angeles, so my expectations are typically low but this experience was worse because how poorly the pho was made and how forgetful the servers were. I'll start with the bright side: parking. There is a small but free parking lot in front of the restaurant in a shared plaza. Now for the food: I ordered the oxtail pho. The bowl of pho was $21(typical LA price) but there was very little oxtail meat. It was mostly fat and bone that was in the bowl. The broth tasted like water and it seemed like they never simmer the bones or spices in the broth. It tasted like hot water and nothing else. For the service, the waiters forgot to give me the sauce plate, even though I asked multiple times. They also did not know what hanh dam was so I had to show them on google what it was. It also took a surprising amount of time to get the bowl of pho. They didn't have vinegar so just gave me raw onions. Not sure if they make it fresh, but that might be why the broth is missing flavor. This is definitely not an authentic Vietnamese restaurant if you're looking for one. The ambience is decent and clean, but there are better places to go for pho.
Great service! Anahi was amazing. Got the birria pho and it was delicious. I do wish there was just a little more meat but it was very filling as is. The Thai iced Thai hit the spot!

Can't believe I haven't written a review about this place! I've come here for close to 10 years on and off. And over the years, I think they've improved and added more items to their menu. I don't know if they can count as a cheap eat, but it is really affordable and the quality is quite good. My favorite item is your natural oxtail pho! Only a few Vietnamese places offer this dish and I think there's is one of the best! If you're a meat eater, or if you like fall off the bone, short ribs, then this is the dish for you. We've also tried their Wagyu beef pho and liked it too. Very tentative service, though they are always busy with lots of takeout orders, they remember to take care of the dine in customers. A very small and casual place, the ambience is relaxed and day-to-day bistro. It's a great restaurant for this neighborhood (Palms, Cheviott Hills ) and I hope they keep doing good business here.
Anahi was a really attentive and amazing server! Really good service, and also amazing food. The wagyu pho was a pretty good portion with plenty of soup. Was surprised that it had that kind of fishy Vietnamese food vibe that made it seem more authentic. Definitely come here for a good time!

I'll say it was one of the most disappointing Pho I've tried in a very long time and I expected better. Pho's most important part - broth. It had a slight funky sourness to it with no in-depth flavor. Nothing screamed of broth boiling over night nor did it taste traditional. Not even close to even a modern Pho restaurants. The shop is rather small and its most definitely not a traditional pho, but an interesting twist to it. Imo not to its benefit. Also, it took about 25 mins for it to come out where usually it takes 5 MAYBE 10. Positives: Oxtail fell off the bone and tendons great giving it 3 stars.

The only thing I might change is to slice the meat a bit thinner and add more noodles. I also liked the pork vermicelli bowl - light and the meat was perfectly marinated and cooked! Wish that the fish sauce had more oomph to it, but it helped to add lime and sambal. Definitely recommend if you need something to satisfy a craving for viet food, although it doesnt really compare to food found in Little Saigon.
Tasty broth and fun promotion on DoorDash. I loved the depth for a vegan broth. The tofu that comes with the vegan pho is fried. I didn't see any unfried options on the menu. Sometimes it's too heavy and the crunchy texture isn't always needed. I'd order again and not get tofu.

Visited on a Saturday night. The restaurant is tucked inside a small business plaza with a few parking spots and some street parking nearby. The vibe inside was pleasant and we were greeted by a friendly waiter. He recommended three dishes: the Imperial Rolls, Chicken Clay Pot, and Wagyu Beef Pho. They all sounded great, so we went with his suggestions. Food arrived fairly quickly. The Imperial Rolls were delicious and crispy, but the portion was surprisingly small, just two rolls. The Chicken Clay Pot was also on the small side, with a single chopped chicken breast served alongside a bowl of rice. Unfortunately, it was too heavily on salty-sweet sauce, overcooked chicken, it's just ok. The biggest disappointment was the Wagyu Pho. It came with only two slices of Wagyu and two slices of regular beef, and the broth was watery. It completely lacks the rich depth you expect from a good pho. On the bright side, the service was friendly, so maybe I just caught the kitchen on an off night.
No salt on 3! 3-2-1 , salt tha pho! Salt the pho! Never have I ever had pho broth that was so absolutely tasteless. It was like slurping mildly acidic water. The broth carries the pho-- without it , it's DOA. Okay the Wagyu beef brisket is fine and all, but when it basks in the broth it's gonna absorb more flavor. No addition there either so subtract a couple stars. I mean you can tell the line cook didnt give a tittle if he's gonna give me old and expired crusty sriracha sauce. Wonder how I know? The paste was like a sickening brown hue instead of vibrant blood red. Must have been like over a year old bottle. No excuse me while I go forage for an actual decent meal as whatever it is it won't be here .

As somebody who is usually a hater of modern takes of asian cuisine, I was pleasantly surprise by this spot. I stumbled across it on a Sunday morning craving some warm pho and stumbled across this location. I ordered the oxtail pho, and the meat was incredibly tender. There was surprisingly a LOT of oxtail for the price, $24 which I thought was a pretty good value. The broth tasted complex and flavorful, and the rice noodles were cooked perfectly. The bowl was huge and the broth piping hot, portion was so large I ended up taking almost half home! If you're looking for creative, modern Vietnamese dishes that put a clever spin on classics rather than strictly traditional flavors, this is your spot. If you're specifically looking for a more authentic Vietnamese experience, this may not be your pick, but they have plenty of other dishes I'm excited to come back and try like the wagyu pho and the birria pho. Parking on-site is a huge plus, and the restaurant was impressively clean, (including the condiments) and my server was also so sweet and not disruptively attentive as somebody who was dining alone. read more

My wife and I have ordered the Natural Pork Vermicelli with Imperial Roll from Phorage over five times, always through Uber Eats since we prefer enjoying our meals at home. While we truly enjoy the flavors and concept of their dishes, the consistent quality control issues have become impossible to overlook. Out of those five orders, four had major problems -- wilted or old lettuce, burnt meat, or some other sign that the food wasn't prepared with care. The final straw was our most recent order, where more than half the meal was just fat. Absolutely gross and inedible. It's disappointing because the food could be great if they maintained consistent freshness and quality. Unfortunately, after giving them multiple chances, we're done. We're now on the search for a better alternative that respects customers enough to deliver what they promise. read more

This has to be the worst pho in town. The taste of the chicken pho has drastically gone down hill and has an overly salty and fish sauce taste. It's so bad no amount of water to dilute the taste helps. Overall I was only able to have a few bites and the rest was wasted. Service is good and the team is attentive. Just the food has gone drastically down hill over the years. read more

Really good banh mi sandwiches! The bread was perfect. Lots of meat as well. We also had imperial rolls. I wish there were more (just two rolls with lettuce wraps and noodles), but they're so good. The Philly cheesesteaks style banh mi is obviously unconventional but the flavors are on point. I'd order it again. The portion is larger than other places I've been to. There's a small shared parking lot. Prices are fair compared to other casual places like this. read more

If you're craving viet food but not willing to make the drive to OC or even SGV, Phorage is a reasonable option for you! Big portions make up for the big price. I got the wagyu beef pho and added meatballs. The broth comes up nice and hot. It wasn't as flavorful as some of the OC pho spots nothing some basil, Hoisin sauce, and Sriracha can't fix. We also got the imperial rolls and were surprised they came with lettuce and vermicelli to turn into a roll or salad bowl! Nice and crispy, super flavorful, my only regret was not ordering a second portion. read more

Was super glad to see Soda Chanh on the menu, especially since even traditional pho places don't offer it nowadays. The fried dumplings were very yummy, the crispy tofu with broken rice was delicious, and the pho was uniquely good. Our server, Silvia, was also very quick to tend to us and accommodated one of my dish alterations. I definitely recommend this place, especially as a cute date spot read more
Overall this restaurant is a 3 out of 5. Service was good but food is just okay. We got - Wagu beef Pho with beef balls: the broth is not flavorful (trust me when I say it is not flavorful). The good thing here is the beef ball and the Wagu beef. They do give you a good amount of meat - vermicelli noodles with pork: meat isn't tender or flavorful. The egg roll was better than the meat. The fish sauce just okay. - clay pot chicken: a bit too salty. We had to add lime juice to make it more eatable. Rice was good. Personally, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. read more

How sure are you that the French Baguette for the Banh Mi is vegan? I called before you answered my question and one of the employees said it was not.
Sorry just saw this ... but that employee was Misinformed ... the bread contains water flour yeast salt.
Can the Banh Mi be made vegan if you don't add the mayo? I wasn't sure about the French Baguette, since I know that some places have ones that contain milk in them.
Yea it is vegan if you remove the mayo ... the bread is a true french baguette and does not contain milk :)
