I have not been out to China Town in over 5 years and was thinking about this place all the way driving into the city . The place we went to there was a long wait !!! But luckily this was my Friends second choice and I was so very excited he had been there and loved it too ! The service is fast and friendly ! It's well maintained and the food is very fresh and delicious . They have very nice large tables to seat many guests and there was plenty of room for the many dishes we ordered .

Phoenix was amazing today! Came with 17 of my coworkers for an afternoon in Chinatown. We sat in the bigger room and saw the lazy Susan in the middle and knew what we were in for. One by one the food started coming out. By the time we were full, the whole thing was almost empty. We had wives like dumplings, pork, bok choy, fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, spicy cucumbers, and many other small plates.

we were going around trying dim sum, it wasnt busy but the service was slow. the food wasnt warm either. they do offer discount for cash.

Pretty good time though our server did not come by a lot. Other servers and the host came and helped us as needed. We got several dishes, some that were gluten free others definitely not. The food is tasty but I will say the cheung fun tasted over steamed. Boyfriend said he loved the xiao long bao. The turnip cake (lo baak goh) is my fave there--very silky yet toothsome.

classic dim sum place in Chinatown off the main road. We went on a Friday around six and it wasn't too busy but got busy by the time we left. You can get your parking ticket validated by them too. This is my first time having honey, walnut shrimp, and by far one of my favorite Chinese dishes I've ever had! Great big groups and it's family style so everyone can get a little bit of everything. They also have done some dishes most of the day.

A variety of sauces provided upon request.

It's been a while since we had dim sum at this long time classy and comfortable Chinatown staple of ours. And double yikes, it's been 10 years since my last review here. Anyway, our party of 5 returned for a week day dim sum outing, and the current ongoing promo is 20% off for cash only dining on M-F from 10am - 3pm. The dim sum was all excellent except maybe the spare ribs with black bean sauce which were not tender and somewhat chewy. They are under new ownership and we didn't recognize any of the employees, but service was the usual attentive and excellent here. We also had a delicious chicken & shrimp pad Thai dish which would have been an atypical Thai offering in years past from their traditional Cantonese menu. There's also a $1 pp tea charge. As I was looking at our downtown skyline out of the 2nd floor picture window on a beautiful day, I was thinking this place is still the perfect place to bring an out of towner and impress someone who is new to both Chicago as well as Chinatown. Also, with the main Chinatown parking lot now being managed via a pay-by-phone Metropolis phone app (see my separate review for Chinatown Parking), don't forget to scan the restaurant's QR code before you depart for the significant parking lot discount. T'was very nice and delightful to be back again and thank you!

I'm in heaven!!! Wow! My sweet banker told me to come here as this is where the locals go!!! The service was great, very welcoming!!! The dim sum was FABULOUS!!! We had potstickers, baked bbq buns, steamed bbq buns, egg rolls, fried rice. All was really good, the best place for Dim sum! It's a really nice restaurant for families too to cellulite events. Beautiful linens and great space!

I've only had dim sum here but it turns out their dinner menu is also very good! My favorite was the umami mushroom dish with a side of rice. Also, our waiter was very attentive. We had a birthday celebration dinner & he joined in on our surprise by sneaking in the cake on a rolling food cart haha :) it was a lot of fun.

Phoenix is an old standby dim sum restaurant that I've been to quite a few times over the years. The dim sum is fresh from top quality ingredients, served hot to the table and always offers a huge endless variety to choose from. Service is excellent with roomy tables overlooking the Chicago skyline. However, I was really disappointed as they did away with the traditional cart system that came around to the tables. They do give you a detailed pictured menu of all the dim sum and you order off that. The dim sum quality and taste are the same and the food is super hot when it arrives at your table. They do have a couple carts mingling around the dining room stacked with one particular dim but that's about it. No matter what you order, it's all really tasty with accompanying hoisin, soy, plum sauces and chili garlic oil. Prices and service are comparable to other dim sum places but Phoenix is still the best dim sum in Chinatown! Personal Tip: Order most of your dim sum at one time with second round afterward. They get a little confused as they use the 1 single paper ticket order and then add on to that for 2nd & 3rd rounds. Favs: Chive & Shrimp dumplings Pan fried shrimp & corn dumpling Shrimp shu mai Beef meatballs Shrimp wontons Vegetable Egg rolls Turnip Cake Sesame red bean ball

Lobster and Noodles

The food is usually very good whenever we come here! My entire family usually goes, so they tend to give us a private room. My favorite items are usually the roasted pork or lobster and noodles! The service was amazing last time we went - they would always come by with water or change out our plates when they looked dirty. The ambiance is pretty simple. It's like any other Chinese restaurant, but there is a lot of seating. It's located on the second floor.

Ellie N.

Good dimsum in the heart of China town. I enjoy the chicken feet and pork ribs. The turnip cake is too oily

The food was incredible! Known for dim sum, and next to Shabu, Shabu in Chinatown, this place has the sharing lazy Susan and the dim sum that makes it a destination.

We came for dinner. So you will see dishes from dinner menu. Ample dining space and reservations are accepted. Call before you go. Food was okay and served quickly. Wait staff is somewhat slow and ice water needed to be requested and not served automatically. Overall, the decor was upgrade from last I was there (summer 2025). The place is known for dim sum brunch so these plate suggestions are more dinner. The price was a bit spendy, as expected with a bar in restaurant. Go for the food, stay in Chinatown for the rest.

Is dim sum (2023) served by push cart or menu order only? Looking for push cart and can't find it at the usual places. Maybe everyone stopped during Covid....

Menu order, but they do have some items by push cart

With the dim sum service, is it a la carte or is it one price "buffet" style?

A la cart

Do they offer dim sum everyday?

Yes, 7 days a week

What kind of tea do they serve there?

Do you need reservations on a Friday?

its very casual.

What do they serve with their duck: those thin small white flour type wrappers, buns, or tortillas?

Discount for cash payment on weekend?

Not that I know of, however, on weekdays it is 20% off with cash between 9 am and 4 pm for dim sum. You can always ask if you do go on the weekend.

Do they have dim sum carts on Saturday?

Yes, but limited. You can order from a menu and get items faster. However, I think the quality of the dim sum has gone down in the last 10 years. It's mediocre at best.

Do they have gluten free and celiac friendly options?

We have gone there many times Just call them and ask. We never paid it any thought because the…

Is this restaurant BYOB?

They have their own bar so they might charge a fee for bottle opening

Is dim sum served all week? What time?

It's all week. If you go earlier than 11am during weekdays, I think you get like 20 or 30% off your bill or something like that.

Is this restaurant wheelchair accessible or do they only have stairs?

they have an elevator

What hours are dim sum served?

We usually go for lunch time. But I feel like they have them all day.

Do they serve dim sum on push carts?

Yes they do. I have been here many times. Dim Sum service during lunch, on the 2nd floor has cart service. Outside of "set" dim sum times you order off the menu. Their lunch service is great!

Our large group was accommodated easily, and we were served relatively quickly after an initial delay while we were waiting for someone to come by. Food came soon after that. We ordered a wide range of things: honey shrimp, beef tripe, pork intestine, Hong Kong style fried noodles. Everything here is solid and delicious. Portions are reasonable too. Ambience is nice, clean, and modern. Only issue while we were here is that some in our group tried to order their baked chicken over spaghetti and they were out of spaghetti. Interesting basic ingredient to be short on here, but rice was not a bad substitute. Would definitely come back here if ever back in Chicago!

You can always count on Chi Cafe for a satisfying meal when hungover. Things have definitely changed over the years. After COVID, the hours became more limited, and the neighborhood has faced challenges that have unfortunately affected the area's late-night scene. It's sad but Chi Cafe still delivers when you're craving quick, comforting food. Whether it's a bowl of noodles, , baked rice dishes, Hong Kong-style cafe classics, or a late-night snack, the menu has plenty of options that satisfy those comfort food cravings. It's the kind of place where you know exactly what you're getting, and sometimes that's exactly what you want. The biggest downside is that prices have increased noticeably over the years while portions seem to have gone in the opposite direction. What used to feel like an incredible value now feels like a clear case of shrinkflation. The portions are smaller, and the bill is definitely higher than it used to be, which can be a little disappointing for longtime customers who remember the old days. Even with those changes, I still find myself coming back here just not as often. There's a nostalgia factor that's hard to replace, and the food continues to hit the spot when I'm looking for something warm, filling, and familiar. For me, Chi Cafe remains one of those places that may not be quite what it used to be, but it's still worth visiting when you're in the neighborhood and looking for a dependable meal.

Be prepared to wait a little bit for a table, or share a big one with another party at peak times. Prices are reasonable and portions are pretty generous. ===== Kind of lost count of how many times I've been. Love getting the dim sum and noodle dishes here. Some favorites: beef cheong fun with egg, siu mai, Singapore noodle, xo rice noodle rolls, spare ribs, pork and century egg congee. All the food has been very solid. Inside is always bustling and can be a bit crowded. Service is pretty friendly as far as Chinatown goes, and very efficient. There's a guy who works there who I think is the manager or something, because he puts in 200x effort and is always hustling. When he's not around it feels like something is missing. Prices are very reasonable and we like ordering a lot here so that we have tasty leftovers for later. This place has quite a few big tables and is good for large groups. My only nits are that very occasionally a dish or teacup will have a dirty spot, and that the bubble tea here is kind of meh. I don't remember exactly which one I ordered, but it was a little watery and lacking in flavor. It's also probably tough since they're boxed in by boba places now. Pro tip: When you first get your table, they'll ask you what kind of tea you want. If you ignore them or don't know how to answer, the default is green tea. Another one is to come at off-peak times. Not only will you get a table faster, but I think they tweak their portion sizes depending on how crowded it is. Definitely will be back! And I recommend you visit too

Sunday Funday with a fantastic first visit to a Chinatown gem!…read more I felt like Chinese food today, and rather than eating at my neighborhood regular, I wanted to go straight to Chinatown for the most delicious, authentic experience. Thanks to my deep dive and discovery on Yelp, MCCB turned out to be the perfect spot to achieve this. The restaurant has held its Michelin status for five years now, and for my first time visiting, the flavors here were incredible. Please note: the restaurant signage is not easily visible from the street since the storefront faces inward toward the mall plaza, and while looking for it, I ended up asking a local man and his wife for directions. He was so kind and welcoming that he unexpectedly left his wife on the sidewalk, my husband in the car, and walked me right across the street and into the mall to point it out from the inside! WAIT TIME: there is a 1 to 1.25 hour wait period to be seated for a table, and a $10 fee via credit card is required to secure your spot, which is then fully transferable to your bill upon checkout. The wait is a great time to walk, explore the shops, restaurants, all Chinatown has to offer, and get your steps and miles in! SERVICE: our first server, Allen, was a bit on the stiff, curt side, but overall nice. However, we had to move from a two-top table to a four-top to accommodate all the dishes we were trying. In that changeover, we were blessed to get one of the BEST servers there, Ashley, who made the experience wonderful. FOOD: we ordered an absolute feast, starting with three starters. The Cheng Du Style Dumplings were fantastic. The Crispy Crab Rangoons were actually not mini at all and had a great crunch. The Szechuan Style Cucumber was a bit underwhelming and a slight bit on the soft side for my tastes, as I prefer my veggies crunchy even when cooked. We ordered everything with the mild heat option so there was no overwhelming spice, just great flavor. For the main dishes, we started with the Cauliflower Flank Steak and added broccoli to it, which was a fantastic addition. It is cooked in an oyster sauce and has none of the standard sweeter seasonings of the other dishes. I chose this to balance a sweet and salty rationing across my dishes, finding that MCCB is a great place to get that perfect balance. The Chicken in Spicy Garlic Sauce was perfect with the mild heat option as well, and the Honey Black Pepper Flank Steak was also incredibly savory, tender, and good. We paired everything with garlic string beans, white rice, and a great jumbo shrimp fried rice. I preferred water, while my husband had a few Diet Cokes. The food comes out hot, fresh, and bursting with flavor. PARKING: parking is convenient--there is street parking or you can use the two north and south lots within walking distance. The north lot is on Archer and Wentworth, and the south lot is on Cermak and Wentworth. Validated parking is permitted for a maximum of 3 hours, and you will only pay $3 with the validation. Just make sure to stay within that time limit and get it validated, because if you go over the 3 hours or forget the validation, you will have to pay the full price for the lot. PRICE: the pricing here is very reasonable for a Michelin-recognized restaurant. Our dinner came out to just under $146 total, which offers phenomenal value given the large portions and top-tier quality. If you are seeking high-quality, delicious Sichuan food in Chinatown that completely lives up to its multi-year Michelin status, and can be customized perfectly to your spice comfort, this is a great place to go. Highly recommend and will return with family!

MCCB's is one of Chinatown's most popular restaurants and I can see why…read more Pros: The food is very good. My favorite items are the orange chicken, garlic green beans and their dumplings. Although orange chicken is relatively basic, there's isn't! It's crispy, orangey and savory. The best I've had. Their green beans, easily rival din tai fung's and their dumpling super good as well. A great broth, bouncy chewy wrapper, and super flavorful filling! The restaurant itself is cute & service is pretty decent, as well. Cons: Their crispy chili chicken wasn't my favorite, but I'm not the biggest fan of Szechuan chilies or dark meat. There was also a tang in the after taste of the chicken that I didn't love, but it was fresh and the crisp was really nice! There's also almost always a wait and the place and tables are pretty small, so if you're like me and like to order a lot of things, you may have trouble fitting things.
