So we came in late around 10:30-11pm and were able to order immediately. This place was is open late so that's why me and my wife decided to come and check it out. But prior to being sat, I think a customer and one of the ladies were having argument where I heard the customer yelling at the other lady saying to, "Calm down!" Which was an uncomfortable situation at first but we were both hungry and stayed. I will say, the food here is GREAT the broth of the pho was splendid and the egg rolls so far the best I've had compared to other pho spots. The one aspect I didn't like was the lady who brought our bean sprouts for the pho (lady getting yelled at) had her thumb finger inside of the plate deep in the dish holding the bean sprouts. She was nice don't get me wrong... but cleanliness wise, it didn't touch the bean sprouts at all and she had an odor to her. I just left them untouched. Its pretty solid to grab some Pho fosho lol. My co-worker and I went here to eat lunch cause its cold and we need something warm in our tummy. My co-worker worked at Westminster before so he knew about this place. The ambiance is Vietnamese written all over. A classic Asian restaurant should look like kinda vibe. And yes, we saw a lot locals eating here, so its quite legit. The service is solid, nothing to complain about.. just straight forwards and efficient. I ordered their Bone Broth pho, which really cleanse my pallet especially in a cold weather. Although, I tasted a lot of MSG in that soup and it made me sleepy afterwards. They have a small atm machine in their restaurant. The place is spacious with many tables. We were going to try the oxtail soup that day, but they ran out. I haven't been here that often... maybe 10 times or more? A solo Valentine's Day called for delicious Vietnamese food. I found a great, unpretentious spot serving amazing, classic dishes at fantastic prices. It's a shame so many people stick to pho, because there's so much more to explore! One of my favorites is "Dodging Beef" (Bò Né, $17), aptly named for the way the sizzling filet mignon sends hot oil splattering. It's served on a hot plate with your choice of white or fried rice. I ordered mine medium-rare - rare is too raw for me, and well-done is like chewing jerky. The steak is already well-seasoned, so the accompanying soy sauce is unnecessary. The sizzling sound, the melting butter, the rich aroma of beef - pure comfort. Another must-try is the Stir-fried Egg Noodles with Mixed Vegetables, Tofu, and Mushroom (Mì Xaò Chay, $14). I call them "bird's nest noodles" - I always go for the crispy ones. The Steamed Rice with Pork Chop & Fried Egg (Cơm Sườn Nướng Trứng Chiên, $12) is a Vietnamese-style grilled pork chop rice dish, I think. It comes with a pungent but delicious fish sauce - a staple in Vietnamese cuisine. Each bowl is loaded with three generous pieces of oxtail. And since the price is the same with or without noodles, it's a no-brainer! I always add the fresh bean sprouts and basil the moment the broth arrives, letting them wilt in the heat. Been here 2 times with the family: affordable and decent food with not a place that you have to wait in line for. The pho is a great value at $10 for regular portion and $12 for large: this is what they are known for and is legit for your pho fix. i tried the pork chop rice and the good is that there are 2 pieces of pork chops which is rare to find these days...the downside is the taste was not there so you really need the fish sauce, and before you do, put lemon in the fish sauce to cut down on that pungent odor. Also the rice was dry as the Sahara, so I think the pho is the better option. We also had the pan fried crispy special noodles and have been here 2 times. The second time you can tell it was a different chef and the gravy was so light it was bland and the soy sauce they give with it does not match. would say pass on that and stick with pho. Walked in for breakfast and saw aunties chilling and talking at a table in corner. You know its authentic when the aunties are just chilling speaking Vietnamese. Me andy friend were the only ones and asked if we can sit anywhere. One of the aunties stood up and took our orders. We went for two large Dac Biet and Two large ox tail only soup. Luckily i speak Vietnamese so it felt like home. The restroom had the typical humming noise from air vent, no soap was loaded. The prices listed on menu were different then what was charged but auntie insisted it was tax. Recipt showed $60 flat when bowl of large dac biet was $13 each and ox tail was $14. So math wasnt mathing right. At the end the aunt keep inisiting for tip which we didnt want to hassle with and left them extra $10. Overall the food was great, its just service and overcharging wasnt the best experience which is why 1 star is docked off. Also cash only and ATM fee was $2.50 no matter what amount you pulled. Would come here again for the Ox tail. PS. I have had real Kobe and this place isn't Kobe certified so I would skip it. So my Dad wanted to get some things from Shun Fat (sp?), and I was hungry for some Pho in this crummy weather we've been having the past couple weeks, so my parents and I wanted to try out Pho Vie which is right around the corner in the same shopping center as SF. One thing, though: CASH ONLY!! I read some reviews of this place before heading out to Pho Vie, and they also said this place takes only cash. So if you want to get some lunch here, PLAN ACCORDINGLY!!! Oh, and if you're a card person or you forgot your cash, you're pretty much screwed, because a couple of days ago, I saw that the ATM was out of order (and it's one of those "surcharge" types of ATMs, so again, plan accordingly. Anyway, onto the review: The waitresses/servers understand little to no English, so if you want to give them your order, just give them the number. And if you need or have questions about your order or need some more tea, etc., just give them a wave. I had the Pho with the Kobe beef, and it was all right; not bad, but all right. Tasted a little bit of the MSG, but other than that, the soup itself was piping hot, and the pho noodles were not too al dente. The meat was perfectly cooked, and not chewy at all. I've never had a bad experience eating in Westminster so I thought a restaurant near one of my favorite grocery stores would be great! It wasn't. Walking into the restaurant, you could see tons of tables with dirty plates and cups. The restaurant basically had no empty tables. If a table didn't have a party eating there, there were dirty plates and cups taking up space instead. It took me and my family 15 minutes of awkward standing around and wondering if we should eat elsewhere for an employee to clean up a table for us. Everyone I saw had to basically do the same thing: stand around awkwardly near the entrance, have employees stare at you but will not acknowledge you, and wait for an employee clean up a table that had dirty plates and cups for who knows how long. The food was okay. I couldn't finish mine. My noodles were stuck to each other so they probably weren't fresh. I got the #15 Phở Bò Viến or Rice Noodle Soup w/ Beef Meatballs, #5 Trà Thái or Thai Tea, and #14 Bình Trà or Hot Tea Pot. The Thai Tea tasted watery, but it was better than the noodles. The Hot Tea was just hot tea, can't go wrong with it. I wouldn't mind the bad service if the food was phenomenal, but there's no redeeming trait about this restaurant. I give this place a 3 1/2 stars at best. I love "hole in the wall places" for great Asian food, but, this place is nothing to write home about... Food is decent, portion isn't too big compared to other Vietnamese places, they give you more noodles than broth. They do give you a good ration amount of meats to soup, which is really nice! Their pho broth is clear yet so flavorful and their oxtail literally falls off the bone and it super tender. I know Pho 79 is known for their Oxtail Pho, but always seem to run out at certain time. We showed the staff and they immediately took it away and asked if they can replace with another one. We lost our appetites after that and hoping we didn't need a tetanus shot later, so we just paid the check. Yea they still charged us for the Dac Biet, not the vermicelli bowl. Not a good experience. Best oxtail pho, hands down! Met up with fam after work for a sit down dinner. Plus, my mom loves their oxtail soup. OXTAIL PHO. My mom had ordered ahead for me, since I was late. She ordered a large bowl, even though a regular bowl would have been filling already. Why I would rather not order a large bowl? Because you'll just have a larger bowl loaded with rice noodles. Keeping with the regular bowl will have a more proportional balance of soup, meat, and noodles. The soup and noodles are served in a single bowl, and an extra plate and fork is provided so you can tear away at the meat on the tail bones. We come here to get our oxtail fix, because its much cheaper to purchase a bowl of oxtail pho than to buy the oxtail and cook it at home when you factor in the time and effort and price per unit. For one, if you don't already have the ingredients in your kitchen, don't buy all the herbs and spices just for a one time meal. It's too costly.
