We live super close to here so we walked to Pho Ty II to get our pho fix on a rainy day. I've heard negative reviews about this place but we decided to give this place a shot. After the first few minutes, I had an idea as to the type of experience I'll be receiving. The hygiene and cleanliness of this place was incredibly poor. I felt dirty and disgusted most of the time. I understand good hole in the wall places are not clean, but the foods should at least taste good to substitute for the dirtiness of the place. How the workers cared for the dirty dishes, carried the foods, and then carried on about their personal duties made me question whether or not they wash their hands. The tables and containers were sticky. The floor was dirty. I don't think I'll be coming back here, I shiver at the thought of that place. We both ordered pho and I had the one with the beef balls. The broth was extremely flavorless and had quite a bit of oil in comparison to another pho I had a few nights ago. After a few bites I could barely taste the broth. Everything was tasteless to me and I ate as fast as I could so I could get out of there. We live walking distance from here, but I think I'll make the extra drive to Union City for better pho. read more

Echoing from all the previous commenters here and they're right, the lady owner overcharges and rips you off at the same time if you don't pay attention to the price of the food. I didn't even care about the food because I was really upset about the price discrepancy to our final bill. I called out the owner about the pricing and she gives me the bs excuse about the to go boxes charges and blah blah blah while I was pointing out to her the menu pricing didn't match to our bill. If you read my previous review. I have answered the question of the "loyal customers. " wish I could do negative stars or no stars at all. Went back here to get our Pho fix. As we sat and indulged in our soup fest we noticed a few waiters coming from the kitchen located in the back with small animal carriers (you know the hard plastic kind with the metal gate door big enough for a cat, but too small for a cow or chicken). Here's my price breakdown: 4.05 for che dessert 4.05 for che dessert 3.95 for thai tea 3.00 for pho broth side order of soup = 15.05 +9.75% Hayward tax = 1.46 = 16.51. This crazy lady writes $18.00 flat on the price. Immediate red flags when 1. there wasn't even a list of what I ordered on the receipt just the "$18" and 2. I can count the number of times my total ends up being a full dollar amount. I didn't even bother to complain because I argued before I even got this bill over the che dessert we ordered. So basically che is shaved ice dessert. Yet we got ice cubes. When asked the old lady thats been working there/owner, she just said oh yeah we don't have shave anymore only whole. So basically I said wtf then don't serve this, asking for a refund with my dessert in her hand she said no and set it back down on the table. Let me break it down for you, to my Filipinos out there think Halo Halo except instead of shaved ice it's ice cubes. Hawaiian shaved ice? Naw we' ll give you liquid flavorings with ice cubes. Our go-to spot for pho cravings, especially during late night hours past 9. We've pretty much been here more times than the number of fingers on our hands, but it's because it's good, it's authentic, it's fast, and it's super close! We usually get Pho Tai Nam, Pho dac biet, bun bo hue, or some vermicelli noodle bowl with the spring rolls and meat. Other than that, our adventure throughout the menu has been pretty basic, but that doesn't mean we wont get to those other delicious items! BIGGEST PROS: FAST - you order, you say your ABC's, and your food is in front of you! AUTHENTIC - I've had my share of Vietnamese restaurants, and although the best is still in San Jose, this will do for being just down the street from our house. SERVICE - always nice, always greeting you, always making sure you have what you need as soon as you need it. SPACE - plenty seating, you'll never have to wait! SMOOTHIES - random, but it's true...the taro smoothie and avocado smoothies with pearl are a must with you hot bowl of goodness :) CONS: the bathroom can be a bit cleaner! Great place for Pho. A small pho is $7-8, not $15 like a previous review states. As small is a good size, I never left hungry. If you eat in house it's cheaper because they don't do small pho orders for takeout. Bring cash, there is a credit card minimum of $20. They have an ATM but there's a fee. Pay at the counter after you eat or right away for takeout. Service is very fast. You have all the condiments you could ever want, including fish sauce and red vinegar. The beef pho is very good, I've only tried the rare steak, not other options. Durian boba shake is good, avocado shake doesn't have as much flavor. I have never has a bad service experience. It may be a bit different than a standard American service experience but I satisfied when I visit. I like that they don't bother you much while you eat. If you need something just ask. Ask for the bill when you are ready if it hasn't come. read more

Wow can't believe what I just experienced with the service here. I placed an order over the phone for a few appetizer items for pick up. As I arrive I realize I have a little bit of cash in my pocket (never really carry cash) so I calculated the cost of my items to see if I have enough to just pay cash. The items were each 5.75, 5.75, and 9.50 so with tax was about $23.10. When I walked up the younger lady asked me what I ordered and without even calculating anything or looking at the bill she goes "ok give me $25". So I question her on why it cost so much when it should be a few bucks less. She says nothing and walks to the back. She comes back out and whispers "ok just give me $24 but shh dont tell anyone". What do you mean don't tell anyone? 1) you arent doing me any favors and 2) you are still over charging me. I know its only a couple bucks, but it seemed as if this is something they do often. I wont eat or order from here again. I handed her the $24 told her I know she's overcharging me but if she needs it that much to keep the change. I actually love the food here but they ALWAYS CHARGE YOU EXTRA. Today I got a rice plate, spring rolls and a Thai tea w no pearls (the pearls are always bad) and they charged us $26.75. Then when we asked why it was that much, she said the prices were raised (CHANGE THE MENU PRICES!!!) So then she proceeded to tell us the price of each one, which didn't make any sense if you consider the tax. She said the rice plate was $14, the spring roll was $7 and the tea was $5. I used to support this Pho rest for years, but things change. The menu states 9.75 for a x-large but they'll charge you $11.50 for it when u order to-go cause "they charge .25 cents for to-go boxes. They don't take credit card even though they have a sign that states "$20 or more for cc" they have an ATM in the front so you can pay cash. I was under the weather and needed some Pho to make me feel better. I decided to pass on my usual Pho Pasteur and chanced upon this place on Yelp and I am glad I did. It is as good as Pho Pasteur with the pho if not slightly better. The people who work here seem nicer and plus everything here looked good beyond just the Pho. I asked the waiter about their pearl tea and he told that they used condensed milk and fresh ingredients in their strawberry and avacado drinks. I was not going to pass that up and ordered the strawberry pearl tea which was yummy. The martial arts asian TV serial with the low cost special effects was awesome! If you're a vegetarian, you will like the veggie pho here- lots of veggies: carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, and more. Not like the typical broccoli and tofu veggie pho I'm used to. Generous with their toppings- the typical sprouts, basil, jalapeños, and lime. Yum. But, if you're looking for ambiance, this is not the place to go. They're located next to a grimy looking laundry mat and the restaurant itself is small, narrow, and probably needs a good deep cleaning. Gotta love your local hole in the walls! P.S. They keep premade cups with boba in the fridge (cup is halfway filled with boba)... but when I got my drink, I noticed they reduce the boba when they take it out of the fridge and take it in the back to prepare before they serve it. So obviously I wasn't satisfied and ordered another Thai tea but this time no ice... guess what they did? Barely fill the damn cup with Thai tea. I mean, if they didn't want their servings to be that much, maybe they should put it in a smaller cup and stop trying to scam customers. (Check picture) AND... Mind you we came in WELL BEFORE they closed. We were about to pay and they say "oh it's cash only bc we closed the cash register" like wtf? I would've given this place 3 stars but because the waitress didn't tell me that the hot Vietnamese coffee is no longer the drip version instead they brought it in a small to go cup. They overcharged me! When I came in, I asked if they took card, they said yes. My bill came, and my $8 bowl of pho turned into $10! When I asked what happened, she claimed that there was a fee to use my card. It was an empty restaurant, and no one seated me. So I sat anywhere, and they made me move. While the shopping center where it is located looks a little questionable, this restaurant is sort of hidden at the left hand corner. I came here for lunch and the place was packed, (which is a sign that the food must be good) very clean and updated. They had flat screen TV's on both sides and the staff was very polite. I ordered the lunch plate and it was delish! I had my order in less than 10 minutes, wait time was painless. I've heard that when ordering to go, the portions are a lot smaller than dining inside. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to satisfy your vietnamese food craving if you are in the area. I will be coming back to try the rest of their dishes. read more

We found this place on Yelp while looking for a Vietnamese place in Hayward to meet one of our friends. It's kind of tucked away in the corner of a strip mall across from Kaiser but once we got in, we were pleased that it was well lit and clean inside. Service was attentive and quick, bringing us our pho and spring rolls. The spring rolls were good, fresh shrimp and good flavors. The pho was pretty decent as well, a good amount for the price and the broth was pretty tasty. Solid, not spectacular, we'd come back again if we're in the area! read more

We both ordered pho - a kid sized chicken and a steak tendon tripe affair. My DD swears she ordered beef, but, not sure. My pho broth was not as flavorful as I liked - it was lacking in that bone/oxtail flavor, but it was fine, lots of broth and plenty of filling. Highly enjoyable and just what I was looking for. The kids portion is appropriate for small children - it fits in a small bowl. I shared mine with my daughter and we were both quite full. As noted by others, it's got posters-on-the-window, somewhat grubby, hole-in-the-wall ambience. And we got the table by the door, which Albertino notes, will get bumped into constantly. A tad overpriced. Let's face it, part of pho's amazingness is because it's deliciousness inexpensiveness! A pretty small bowl is $7.50, but I was more appalled at the super tiny spring rolls totally lacking in girth() that was $5. I mean there was so little in the rolls that the rice wrapper went around the round 2.5x and what I mostly ate/spit out was the rice wrapper. 1 star because of location (only one near work) 1 star because there they accepted cards. Great location for me because it is near Chabot. The price is really affordable hehe. I really like the senior waitress (i assume??). She is just soooooo cool lol i like her. She memorizes the whole menu. I always get the spicy one these day, the bhh?? i forget the name... anyway!! it is good!
