Oswego, who knew you could do pho so well!? This little unsuspecting place in a strip mall called Pho Son knocked it out of the park. I would give this spot 6 out of 5 stars if I could, it exceeded my expectations. My husband and I came here on a weekend for dinner. I was craving pho, but we both wanted to try something different than our usual haunts. Enter Pho Son, a few towns over from us, and we were ready to give it a shot and drive through a new town. Their food is incredible. I'll even venture to say, their food was better than what I've had in Chicago... and I've had a LOT of pho in the city. We ordered: House Special Wings (canh ga chien) Tofu Spring Rolls Pho Dac Biet (Meat Combination); mine Spicy Noodle Soup (Bun Bo Hue); his What made this spot a winner was the quality/freshness of their ingredients. The little details of my dish that I really appreciated: a generous amount of scallions, clear broth, super tender tripe, and melt in your mouth brisket. When I tasted how fresh their tripe was, I felt like I had been consuming subpar tripe my entire life. I thought, "this is how tripe is _supposed_ to taste." Similar, maybe, to someone who has never been to a steakhouse and then tries a gourmet filet mignon for the first time. The comparison is for a totally different part of the cow, but you know what I mean!). It was cooked "right" and it made all the difference. My husband enjoyed his spicy noodle soup. It was not called Bun Bo Hue on the menu, but this was essentially what it was. He ordered his without shrimp. Our appetizers were also fresh and tasty. The wings were delicious with a sticky honey-fish sauce glaze that was finger lickin', need-to-wash-your-hands-after-you-eat-them, good. TL;DR Pho Son is excellent. Since I am still fairly new to the western suburbs, this spot reminds me of the restaurants in Uptown where I would go for a bowl of pho, but even better. We only tried their noodle soups here, but I'd come back to try their rice bowls and vermicelli bowls too. I'm glad this spot is close by, and we won't need to drive to the city to get our pho fix. Whenever I have a craving for pho, I know where to go!!!I definitely recommend this place. The egg rolls are absolutely delicious and I highly suggest trying them. Three came with the order, I couldn't resist devouring one before capturing a picture lol. I decided to get the shrimp pho and added some spice to my liking. So disappointed this place use to be so good I ordered the beef steak pho and they sent me the meat RAW like I clearly ordered take out because I DONT want to cook I called and the guy told me I had to put it on a pot. Like hello ? It's takeout through Uber Eats I did not want to do that and specially can not while I'm working no utensils and the vegetables weren't even cleared correctly NEVER buying again I'm disgusted from opening my container and the blood from the meat having to have spilled all over 0 stars now that I think of it this is a serious safety issue with cross contamination at high risk especially with them putting it in a plastic bag that doesn't even zip ! Check out this quite unexpectedly good Vietnamese casual food. It doesn't look like anything special but that's only before you eat something here. Pho Son is one of the rare good restaurants in Oswego. Certainly they have pho of course. They also have banh mi sandwiches. Getting one of the teas is important as well as food. It has a bunch of fruit teas to choose from and they all sound good. They also have the option of putting in boba or tapioca. It seemed like a pretty good idea. We each got a tea, and I got the Mango Green Tea. It's $5.25 for a regular. This is sweet but not too sweet. It's filled with boba. These don't have much flavor but they have a cool texture. It sadly doesn't have any pho which is vegan friendly. We each got the Banh Mi Tofu. It's $6.50 for a pretty good sized sandwich. This has cilantro, cucumbers, jalapeños, mayonnaise, and pickled vegetables. Get it vegan by leaving off mayonnaise, and putting on sriracha is a good alternative. The bun is toasty so the sandwich has so much crunchy about it but also has a kick. Has much better than expected food for around here. It's the best Asian food in town most likely. The prices are okay for the portions you get for the teas and sandwiches. read more

I've visited this location several times and they've always satisfied. However on my last visit I was unhappy. We ordered takeout and received burnt shrimp fried rice. The beef pho usually comes with chopped veggies and toppings ina separate bag. They combined everything on the last visit and were missing some ingredients. I ate the pho, it was tasty but needed reheating after I returned the rice for a refund. Because I have a good history with this restaurant I'm expecting the next visit to be much better. read more

I pretty much never met a Pho I didn't like. And the Pho at this place didn't disappoint. Nothing I ain't never seen before, but it was a good bowl. The Goi Cuon (spring rolls) are another fave-I even like the shite versions at supermarkets, so these were welcome. Vietnam Tea was fine. All in all, a good and enjoyable feed. So much for the bread--now about those circuses: It's a dull room--nothing much to look at--smallish. And that front door is RIGHT THERE. My notes say "it must be hell in the Winter". Let's just say this is a "place to eat" and not "destination dining". Don't let that put you off from going here, though--the cuisine is really good, the service is warm and friendly, and the prices aren't bad. Eat here. read more

I planned a visit to Pho Son for the last few months since I received the promise of a Pho Son meal gifted to me by family. On March 18th, I fulfilled the mouth-watering promise of local, delicious pho. I started with the chicken spring rolls, which were light and paired nicely with the peanut sauce. I could have done without the chicken, since I am an aspiring vegetarian, as they offset the core crispness of the rolls. To drink, I opted for the House Vietnamese Iced Coffee. The caffeinated beverage paired nicely with the Tofu Pho with Vegetables dish. Since this was lunch, I ordered the small sized pho, and this was enough food for two meals for me. The vegetarian broth warmed my soul on a chilly day. The tofu remained firm with crispy edges, and did not deter from the vegetable stars of the pho. This place has a new look inside. Looks fantastic all updated and super clean. They made some additions to the menu. We always get the shrimp spring rolls and egg rolls...Delicious!!! Also the added the rice noodle bowls is a welcome add. Again delicious!!!There is a young waiter that's always here for that provides the best service. Was looking forward to some really good pho. Service was good and fast, ambiance was cute. Our first time here and my husband and I both like spicy tasty food, and it was, really wonderful. Super fast service and quality food! We are new to the area and are desperately looking for our go-to Pho spot. I think we may have found it!! We got the Pho, summer rolls with shrimp and Pad Se Ew. All were delicious. The Pho had a hint of something I've never had in pho before...nutmeg??? It was distinct and unique but also incredible. The summer rolls were super fresh and the peanut sauce was perfection. Everyone inside was friendly and though I got takeout, the dining area was well supported. It's a tiny dining area but was being well managed. The only sad part for me is that it's in Oswego and I live in Aurora. I wish they were closer!!! read more

it's been a minute since i wrote a review and this place made me get on my desktop so i could type one up! LOVED everything about this place! just got food to go, but the food was SO PERFECT! i got the vermicelli bowl with grilled pork - one of my vietnamese go to dishes. grilled pork was perfectly seasoned, tender, and savory - delicious! and the rest of the bowl -- generous amount! awesome super fresh veggies and they gave me extra basil on request. many vietnamese places do not give you beautiful fresh veggies on your salad and this place had the freshest veggies i have ever had - even really nice romaine lettuce (many places use crappy wilty iceberg). my husband got the grilled pork bahn mi - he loved his too. this is an hour from us but honestly i will probably travel here when i am able because i love vietnamese food and they do it much better than most of the places in the suburbs. i hope they will be open a long time and have a very prosperous business - because their food is top notch and the people there are really nice. read more

Just ate here for lunch with my mom. Everything we had was excellent. The spring rolls were very fresh with a lot of flavor, especially with the peanut sauce. The chicken sandwich was probably our favorite of the entrees. The meat was extremely tender and the bread was toasted perfectly with a nice garlic flavor. The spicy noodle bowl had a nice kick to it. A lot of flavor also really good! The chicken noodles pho bowl was huge! Enough for 2-3 people. The broth was really good and the chicken was tender! I just wanted to mention that I went back and tried the Spring Rolls. They were really good! The shrimp was delicious and the sauce was your nice basic peanut sauce. The beef soup/pho bo was tasty again - good broth, nice variety of beef meats. Good depth of flavor. I was really pleased. I'll definitely be going back, especially now that they're fully open! Next time I'll see what their "beef spring rolls" are like since those looked interesting! I also suggest having the mango green tea; it's fantastically delicious! read more

We had take out from here tonight. This is a real treat. Tofu spring rolls with fresh vegetables ad sauce. Chicken lettuce wraps well seasoned, sweet and tangy. Chicken pho was delightful; a real highlight and a large portion. Chiken bahn mi was the only disappointment. Small for the price point, and the bread is not great, which really matters for this sandwhich. Chicken noodle salad was also great, with fresh greens and tangy dressing.
