I wasn't disappointed in the pad Thai per say- but it could have used more sauce/flavor. And they didn't provide any utensils but thankfully I took the food to my place :) no biggie. They only do curbside so I called and they brought it out to me. The tofu was cooked rly nicely, it had a crust from being pan fried but still was soft on the inside. Loved all the bell peppers and onions in this dish Panang curry - rly nice, more dilute broth than I'm used to but the flavor was there. My stomach has spoken and spoken with much excitement. I was in town for business and I wanted something other than a burger. Thai food has always been a winner but quality has been sketchy around Boling Brook, Naperville and Lisle so I tend to shy away when I'm in town. This night was different in both experience and food quality. When I showed up, I waited about two minutes before I was seated. I was quickly shown my table by the window where I had a view of a couple TVs. Since it was getting close to 8pm, I quickly decided on Thai dumplings and drunken noodles with beef (medium spice). I would most likely pass on the dumplings as they tasted like they came from a frozen package and overcooked. It was neither good nor bad, just there. The drunken noodles on the other hand were amazing. If you want to talk about love at first bite, their main entrees are an excellent proving ground for this. Spice at just the right heat level. Flavor that makes angels sing and play their trumpets. Presentation that says "Welcome to Thailand. Please enjoy your meal." All this along with the attentive service left me so happy! I took the fried banana coconut ice cream back to the hotel since it was getting close to closing time. It was still amazing after the ten minute drive back. On a quick side note, your GPS software will have you turn right at a building. If you circle the building and make a total of 3 immediate right turns, it'll put you in front of the restaurant. This place is conveniently located to downtown Naperville (by the train station) and yet somehow I had never gone. So a friend and I rectified that one evening recently! It was one of the incredibly cold nights we've been having lately so the place was fairly empty but they seemed to be doing a decent takeout business (perhaps people coming in on the train picking up something before heading home?) In any case, we were seated in the front room alone. The place is understated and stylish in decor. We started our meal with crab rangoon, delicious little pockets of crab and cream cheese with a sweet and sour type sauce. I always judge a restaurant based on this appetizer if they serve it, and these definitely passed the test. For dinner I ordered sea scallops in panang curry sauce. Tasty, but there were only five scallops which for dinner seems a bit sparse. The curry sauce was delicious but slightly marred by the tiny. plasticky strips of something (Thai basil?) that abundantly garnished this dish. My friend has the Massamon curry and was apparently satisfied. Service was friendly and our glasses were never empty of water for long! I was able to pay over the phone, including tip. When I arrived, I called them and a worker brought the food out to my car. He was wearing a mask, too, so nice job on touchless service. As for the dish, it tasted good, but...we paid a $3 upcharge for shrimp and there were literally only four shrimp in the entire entree. I ordered the Rama Delight with medium spiciness. The broccoli that comes with it is very tender and tasted good. The sauce was way too thick for my liking, and kind of overpowered the rest of the dish. It felt almost like this peanut butter noodles. The drunken noodles are good, though. I would definitely give this place another chance to try out their other dishes. The Rama Delight was definitely a miss, though. Other than that, the service is nice and the price is affordable. It sure didn't take me long to make it back for a lovely dinner for two. It was an interesting evening as mom, who doesn't do spicy, went for the "spicy catfish." I think secretly she wants me to eat more fish, as she abruptly tasted my dish and proceeded to help herself to mine. I think this used to be the Petey Z pizza place from 10 years back, and I've always liked this little nook and cranny strip of storefronts. I liked the restaurant peace and quiet, but the food was only ok, and I think they can do better. The green papaya salad was quite spicy, and we had it mild (it may have been the spiciest salad I've ever had). The green curry beef was ok, but a bit light on the beef for $9.95. The chicken pad thai was over the top sugary. I liked that they offered Chimey ale - a bottled Begian ale. If you like Thai in Naperville, it's worth a try, and I'm glad we did. Anyway, was eating here tonight and got to witness the owner smack down two extremely irate, unreasonable customers who were clearly too drunk to understand how a group discount on bottle corkage fees works. AND I THOUGHT I WAS IN LOVE WITH THIS PLACE BEFORE. (These two left without paying ANY corkage fee after using the glasses and drinking the wine and after all the scene they made, then got into separate cars to drive home after bragging that they could legally drink as much as they wanted because they weren't driving! After circling the block at least 4 times, I finally found this 'tucked away' restaurant, just outside of Naperville's train station. The food is authentic and the owner was personable & concerned that 'spicy' might be too spicy and the durian might offend my olfactory senses. I assured him that I was familiar w/spicy and the 'stink' of durian. They were out of Pad Ped Sataw, so I ordered Khua Kling & Durian for dessert. The owner/manager told me his gmom raises the chili peppers in Thailand & the variety changes annually, but always fresh and literally hot! Plus, he discounted the cost bc he didn't know the Ped Sataw wasn't available when I placed the order.
