    grilled carrots and dipping sauce

All I was looking for was a decent chicken satay with excellent peanut sauce, and Mai Thai Cafe delivered. It had to be the juiciest chicken I've ever had in a satay app. The peanut sauce was thick and sweet and delicious. The cucumber side salad that came with it was pretty good - some of the carrots were a little dried out. We also ordered the fried tofu, which was pretty good, but I'm not a huge fan of the sauce. I love the peanuts in it, but it's too liquidy. I ended up dipping it in my leftover peanut sauce, because what doesn't taste better drenched in peanut sauce? My son ordered the pad thai, which I'm assuming he liked because because he ran off to his room with it, and that was the last I saw of him all evening. We will definitely be back for sure!

Starting January of 2016, Mai Thai Cafe became a takeout place with self-serve dine in option. This small Thai restaurant has been around for a long time in downtown Wheaton. The noodles dishes here are great! The Pad Thai has good flavors but is on the plain side consisting of mostly noodles with a sprinkle of nuts and green onion on top. The pad see ew comes with a good amount of vegetables - broccoli and carrots. The parking lot is small but there are plenty of street parking closeby. No alcohol and No BYOB.

Pad see ewe. Looks better than it tasted, but I ate it all. So clearly, it wasn't THAT bad.

Always very good. We always get cashew chicken, no broccoli. Lots of pineapple. Parking is sometimes difficult, but worth it.

They need a new cook. Food was spicy and flavorless. Don't understand how they stay in business.

Love this place! I have been here many many times and it is great every time. The best thing to get in my opinion is Pad Thai noodles.

I liked that the lunch special had some cucumber pieces to cleanse the palate. My Pad Thai reminds me of the college Thai food that is well made enough but might seem a bit premade. If you like the profile, slightly sticky and chewy noodles with pretty strong sweet flavor profile, this is not bad. Egg roll was light and crunchy, some might like that. Overall I think the Thai flavor is a bit muted, and it's leaning sweet to fit non-Asian palate. It's not bad, but also I think there are better Thai places around Chicago.

The chicken is pounded incredibly thin, yet remains juicy and is perfectly spiced and cooked. The bite size rolls are always crunchy and flavorful, especially when dipped in either the lightly sweetened dressing provided or their perfectly balanced chili oil. Strangely enough, however, I usually devour the little cup of cucumber and onion salad that comes with it before anything else - so yummy! The service is always quick, accurate and very friendly; and I'm really happy to be able to whole-heartedly support a hometown business.

They no longer serve tofu(!) and you can't get a Thai iced coffee or tea, either. The egg rolls are crispy and mostly noodles; the spicy Thai basil had delicious basil but wasn't spicy (I hesitate to order "spicy" at a Thai restaurant but apparently here one should). I was here early (4pm) on a Friday; the host fired up the kitchen for me. If you want Thai food while playing slots, this is a great place; if you're looking for Thai food full stop, you should probably go elsewhere unless you just need a quick pad thai or yellow curry. Ambiance is fine - seats are comfortable, there are wooden plaques on the walls...table seating only as the booths were torn out for the slot machines. $21 plus tip for egg rolls and spicy (not really) Thai basil.

Now the food : albeit, a bit oily, the dishes are usually very tasty and freshly made. BUT*** warning : I must say the dine-in service and pick up was absolutely unprofessional and rude. And time consuming. though I like to give people the benefit of the doubt (and perhaps he had a really bad day) the owner literally and repeatedly came into the restaurant, took over our order and came into my 78 year old mother's face and started yelling at her and called her a nasty old woman because she asked his wife the chef/COOK*-for extra mushrooms. And how dare we criticize his wifes cooking (which we never ever would or had done). !! In actuality, it was the second time my mother had to ask for mushrooms, as they were not put to her expectation the first time. AND-Nor were any added to the order the previous time we had gone and ordered via phone. Which we did not mention. So that's that. but if you do decide to try it anyway - be sure to specify if you do not want dish sauce or egg in the dishes, especially the fried rice. All the best !
