We went yesterday to try this spot since we were out in the west suburbs and got a few items. The spot seemed more so like a take out spot so everything came in Tupperware for take out. We got: Appetizers sampler: 4/10 it's okay nothing to write home about. Very typical fried foods. Pad Thai: 7/10 we got it with chicken and we all liked it in comparison to the other dishes Basil (chicken): 6.5/10 pretty good but not as spicy as we expected even though we asked for spicy level. Pad see ew: 5/10 we got it with beef and the beef was very chewy. The flavor is good otherwise. Thai ice tea: 8/10 pretty good. Not too sweet. The service was good. Just know that it's not really meant for a sit down spot more so take out. There are a good amount of seating space inside if you choose to eat inside. read more

At the end of a long day at a conference, I was invited to go to dinner with a larger group to Mai Thai. It's a small take out place with a few tables inside. We asked if they could accommodate our larger group, and the owner did in fact accommodate us. He pulled some tables together and cleaned them off for us. A younger couple not using both of their tables offered up their as well and we were all able to fit comfortably and enjoy a tasty meal. I ordered some vegetable pot stickers and the larb gai. The potstickers were ok, but a little soggy for my liking. However, the larb gai was one of the best I've had. The chicken was white meat which I prefer, and the mix of flavors was perfect. The location in town is central and easy to get to. There was plenty of street parking available which is especially important when you're trying to pick up a take out order. The locals among our group said this was the best place in town for Thai, and they lived up to their reputation. Both in taste and service! read more

The pot stickers were ok but sauce was too vinegary. Spring roll/egg roll was all cabbage and there was a piece of plastic in them. I threw them away. Boxes stored in the restaurant area. All I was looking for was a decent chicken satay with excellent peanut sauce, and Mai Thai Cafe delivered. It had to be the juiciest chicken I've ever had in a satay app. The peanut sauce was thick and sweet and delicious. The cucumber side salad that came with it was pretty good - some of the carrots were a little dried out. We also ordered the fried tofu, which was pretty good, but I'm not a huge fan of the sauce. I love the peanuts in it, but it's too liquidy. I ended up dipping it in my leftover peanut sauce, because what doesn't taste better drenched in peanut sauce? My son ordered the pad thai, which I'm assuming he liked because because he ran off to his room with it, and that was the last I saw of him all evening. This place has really gone down hill. I used to love eating here but in the last few years the quality has been eroding preciptiously. Then tonight, for my birthday, I decided to give it another try. Big mistake. The tofu in my dish was so over fried it tasted like rubber and the egg rolls so over fried it was like the noodles I was chewing were made of plastic. I couldn't finish either dish. Starting January of 2016, Mai Thai Cafe became a takeout place with self-serve dine in option. This small Thai restaurant has been around for a long time in downtown Wheaton. The noodles dishes here are great! The Pad Thai has good flavors but is on the plain side consisting of mostly noodles with a sprinkle of nuts and green onion on top. The pad see ew comes with a good amount of vegetables - broccoli and carrots. The parking lot is small but there are plenty of street parking closeby. No alcohol and No BYOB. read more

2 stars. As I always do, I consulted with yelp while deciding where to eat a late lunch the other day. The reviews on this joint were mixed, but I had a hankering for awesome Thai and no enough time to get to my fav spot in elmhurst. So, I asked my business partner who has an office very near and she gave the place good marks for the pad Thai and the customer service. Unfortunately, I was in the mood for pad see ewe. And the service I was met with left much to be desired, as did my meal. I walked into the completely empty restaurant and the young guy sat me with a dinner menu. I asked if I could have a lunch menu and he said 'no'. I missed "lunch" by mere minutes. Okay, whatever. It took another six minutes before the young lady took my order. She was busy setting tables or something and I assume just didn't think my time was valuable considering I was dressed in sweats. I sat there enjoying the music...they were playing Mariah Carey's greatest hits! Fine choice. I ordered, meal came, I ate. Veggies were amazingly prepared. Nice crisp, not soggy. Noodles were doubled and didn't get sauce on them so they were kinda dry and flavorless. Spice was very mild. The food prepared is actually the best Thai food I've had. I have been a loyal customer for over 10 years and they've been fantastic up until this year... this past year they have struggled with organization and have not been satisfactory with service. The main guy who takes orders always seems unhappy to be there or to help you and seems condescending over the phone. They are impatient and can mix up orders. Today I called to place an order, I am aware it is a Friday night amidst the COVID19 crisis. They informed they were really busy and to call back in 20 min. Once I did they shut their phones off and wouldn't take any more orders. This is not the proper way to service your loyal customers. They should have either offered to take the order, but inform us of a longer wait OR tell us they cannot accommodate any more orders. DONT just leave us hanging while we continue to try and call...unprofessional. Now your customers are left hungry and have to find other places to order. I'm not sure if I want to return if they can't appreciate their customers...don't go into the service industry if you don't want to service your customers read more

This was the best Thai food we've had in a long time!! We ordered the chicken Pad Thai and beef Rama Stir fry. The food was fresh with generous meat portions and very tasty sauce! Can't attest to the ordering/pick up procedure as someone else did this for us but the food alone is worth going back for! Do not go here. over price. The menu on there website says beef pad thai cost 13 dollars. You pick up the food they will charge $11.00 for pad thai and add $4.00. They update there menu on there website. On there menu says plus fried rice they do not do this. Again the website menu is wrong. You get dope twice, higher price and no fried rice. I have never been let down by Mai Thai. I mainly order it as take-out, but the few times that I have eaten there I have had a great experience too. It doesn't take them long to make the food and it always comes out fresh and steaming. In the past I have ordered the pad thai, the panang curry, the basil eggplant curry, various appetizers, a few of the fried rice options, and the soup. The pad thai is made perfectly. I have ordered it with tofu, chicken, and shrimp and am never disappointed. The panang curry has a good spice to it. The basil eggplant curry became an unexpected favorite of mine. I usually ordered it with chicken, but I think it would go well with any of the protein options. The last time I stopped in I ordered the curry fried rice and got it the medium spice level. It was extremely spicy and full of flavor. If you can't handle spice, then stick with the normal level. All of these meals came in huge portions and I had leftovers to take home. Pretty quick and average priced Thai food in the area. You're coming here for carryout only, never dining in. Food is decent, good flavors between the Pad Woon Sen, Pad See Ew, & Curry. We added beef to one of the dishes and it was a bit tough & dry so that was disappointing. This food is made to order, always hot, always fresh, with vegetables crunching and noodles or rice steaming. NEVER do you get slimy mushy vegetables in your food. The spiciness here is for real. If you get medium, hoping for it not to be too spicy......you're gonna be sweating and wiping your nose. I like spicy food, and medium is about all I can handle, but the flavors are on point. The fried rices and pad thais frankly embarrass other local Thai and Asian restaurants. The BEST by far. The curries are a little thick for me, but still taste very good. Great lunch spot. My friend and I went here for dinner on a Friday night. It was very busy and it's a small place and you're sitting VERY close to everyone else (and it was pretty loud and bustling) so at first I wasn't sure how I was going to feel sitting smack in the middle of the restaurant. But, I quickly got used to it and we enjoyed ourselves. The crispy spring rolls are absolutely amazing! They are huge and they kindly cut them in half for you so you have four portions with some tasty sauce. They are the best I've had anywhere. They told us they are homemade. Yum. I had the cashew stir fry with chicken. It was very good. My one complaint is that the menu online describes the menu items in more detail than the menu in the restaurant. The menu online said that the cashew stir fry had mushrooms and baby corn but the menu in the restaurant menu left those items off in the description. Fortunately I asked if it had mushrooms in it, because I don't care for them, and the menu didn't say it did but it did. It also had tons of baby corn but it wasn't included in the menu. That kind of bothers me. However, it was very tasty and a nice size portion. The rice came in a pretty tiny bowl, though, and wasn't quite enough for the leftovers the next day. The service is very good- attentive and friendly. They were patient with us as we ate slow and stayed a longer time and were nice to keep refilling our water glasses. This seems like a very popular place. I was pleasantly surprised and will make sure to come back soon. read more

Popped in here for a quick weekday lunch and was thrilled to find such a huge and varied menu of Thai favorites and options before me. Atmosphere was crunchy - we were all stuffed into our little tables -- but it was fine. Parking was a little interesting. I chose the yellow coconut curry with chicken with soup and an appetizer.... The soup was very good, cabbage, but I had to laugh when the appetizer came. They really meant "an" appetizer -- as in, one potsticker. I was amused. :-) But the curry itself was divine, so flavorful; i felt quite lucky I chose the mild version, seeing as it was making my eyes water and I could see the flecks of fresh red pepper throughout the sauce. Stopped in for a quick lunch between errands. My daughter & I were immediately greeted and sat down. I've eaten food from here about 5x and I usually don't try new items, so my review is based on the ones I've tried. Pad Thai lunch portion was enough for 2 to split & we still had leftovers. Be very careful with how you ask for spiciness here...I've read the other Yelp reviews and they are correct; start low because you can always add spice, not the other way around. Anyway, the fried rice was delicious; right amount of basil, red peppers, onions, carrots, cabbage and beef. Large portion too...enough for me to take home leftovers. Our food came with a small cup of cabbage soup and a very tiny salad. The soup was a warm broth, a little spicy and a nice way to start the meal. The salad I could do without...the dressing was too sweet..too much rice wine vinegar? My favorite restaurant in downtown Wheaton!!! Its a small lil corner restaurant. They mainly do take out/DoorDash/uber eats, but there are tables to sit at if you wish to dine in as well! Hours are a little weird but that's because it's a family run restaurant, and the auntie said that since she's getting old, she tends to close when business slows/stops at night so she can go home early and rest!! Looks like a little hole in the wall, but it's bigger on the inside. Spring rolls either fried or fresh, and they have vegetarian potstickers. I am hoping next time I can get them pan-fried; deep-fried potstickers are just wrong. The pad see ew was perhaps a little oily, but tasty. I had it to go because after eating half my soup, redolent of coconut milk and lemongrass, and half an order of the deep-fried potstickers, I was full. My friend and I stopped by this place for lunch on a Wednesday around 11:30 and we definitely beat the crowd because more and more people trickled in around noon. Parking around this area is pretty easy, anywhere you see "customer parking", you can definitely park. The lot of this restaurant is small so street parking is much easier. We got the lunch special but they don't offer salad anymore, just hot & sour soup. This was my friend's first time eating Thai food so I ordered panang chicken curry and pad thai w/ shrimp for us to share (both are medium level spicy). The hot & sour complimentary soup came out in a small bowl but it was perfect portion. It was a bit too sour for my taste but still always good to start off with a hot bowl of soup when it is so cold outside! For the panang chicken curry, the chicken was really hard to chew and didn't taste that fresh. The curry was mediocre and it just didn't taste as good as panang curries I've had elsewhere. The pad thai w/ shrimp was way too sweet for some reason. I had to mention to my friend that the pad thai really isn't suppose to be this sweet. And I usually like to have a lot of bean sprout with my pad thai and mix it but the vegetable portion was very small and not an even balance when I mix it. Total came out to about $12-13/person for 2 lunch specials and an extra bowl of rice. I am Asian and the whole time while I was eating, there were only non-Asian people eating at this restaurant, so that kinda says something. Overall, it is good service, good pricing, okay food. But since I have been exposed to really good Thai food, I wouldn't recommend this to people with a more exposed tastebud to delicious Thai food. read more
