This is the second time we've ordered takeout in the past two weeks. The first time it was okay. Not great, but good enough to try it a second time. Today we got Chicken Pad See Ewe, which was fine, but not very flavorful. The Melanie Chicken's sauce was thin and overly sweet. It reminded us of something we could buy in the frozen section of the grocery store and cook at home. The Beef and Broccoli had very little beef and was a small portion overall. The biggest disappointment was the Green Curry with Tofu. The curry was so very thin and was sweet!! And there were diced carrots, lima beans, peas, and corn that very obviously from a bag of frozen veggies! There didn't seem to be any coconut milk flavor at all. We were in the Wheaton area and had a taste for Thai food on a very cold Thursday night. There was no one in the restaurant when we arrived so service was very good. The decor is very nice and they offer a wide selections of appetizers,soups,rice and noodle dishes. We did notice their prices are higher than other Thai restaurants we have eaten at My wife had their Coconut Soup with chicken. It was very flavorful with a blend of coconut milk broth,lemongrass,lime, mushrooms and chicken. (17.95) I always have Pad See Ewe but this time I went with shrimp instead of chicken. I should have stayed with chicken..the shrimp were small and basically frozen from a bag with very little flavor. (18.95) Portions were small in my opinion for the price. We did notice a constant flow of pickups for takeout but since Simply Thai is not close to where we live,not sure I would make the effort to go back again. read more

With temperatures below zero we were looking for comfort food while in the Wheaton area at dinner time. We enjoyed the cozy atmosphere here including listening to the music consisting of crooners and the soft lit table lamps. Service was given with a smile. I had the Tom Kha coconut soup with chicken. It was flavorful and served in a beautiful china bowl with saucer. My husband had Pad See Ew with shrimp and thought the portion was too small. The prices here are higher than other Thai restaurants that are closer to us. read more

Just moved to Wheaton and have been craving Thai food so I searched Yelp to see nearby options. This came up and it had a 4.0 rating, however the food I ordered was a negative zero! It was god awful! It was a pickup, I ordered the Penang curry with chicken and a side of crab rangoons. The Rangoon's were absolutely disgusting! The filling inside was grainy and not crab at all! I tried eating two and I just couldn't stomach it! It had a weird aftertaste as well. The Penang curry had frozen veggies in it that threw the whole curry off! I've never had anything in my curry except for basil and peppers. The whole meal was awful! Do not want to come in to even try anything else. Hard pass! read more

Ordered beef pad see ewe and chicken tom yum soup. Pad see ewe was flavorful and delicious. The tom yum soup on the other hand, seemed off. It had the flavor of tom yum soup, however, there were so many large pieces of galangal and lemongrass compared to the rest of the ingredients. The soup lacked tomatoes and was basically just chicken and mushrooms. I requested for the soup to be mild and two large peppers were just thrown into the soup. read more

Simply Thai Bistro has been our go-to Thai restaurant since we moved to Wheaton two years ago. My wife and I have been frustrated at the multiple, significant price increases over that time, but still went back every month or two. Our experience this weekend was really disheartening. In addition to what appeared to be another price increase, the portion sizes of our entrees were noticeably smaller than what we've had in the past. To top it off, both of our entrees tasted off and neither of us felt well afterwards. Pains me to say it, but I think it's time to find another go-to Thai place. read more

Evil Jungle Shrimp $16 - The sauce is creamy and nice blend of curry and peanut flavor. The bamboo shoot and baby carrots went well in this dish. Tried this place with my husband over lunch. We started off with Thai Ice Tea, Veggie Spring Rolls and Crab Cakes. The starters were amazingly delicious. We then ordered beef pad Thai and Veggie pad Thai which were exceptionally tasty as well. The food was served super fresh and hot. The service was great. Our meetup group came here as part of an ethnic dining event on 04/02/25. They were able to accomodate all 17 of us with efficiency and excellent service. We really liked this place and was our second group event here (first was 2023). The staff is very professional and accomidates separate checks at the front. We were in the area and decided to stop by this cozy Thai Restaurant in Downtown Wheaton. We ordered Curry Chicken, Fish Cakes, Fresh Spring Rolls, Papaya Salad and Satay Chicken. Red Curry Chicken was very tasty with fresh Basil and various Greens. The Satay Chicken was also delicious on skewers and perfectly grilled. The Fresh Spring rolls was also very good and a perfect option for vegetarian or health conscious consumer. Service was good and also accommodating for food allergies. We were seated in the back corner which was nice for us to linger and catch up but we waited for service a bit longer. We ordered the spring rolls, tasty but precut and stacked together so they stuck and fell apart a bit. The mango salad was nice and crisp, the soup was my favorite! We also shared the shrimp Pad Thai, it was ok. Overall the meal lacked the spice typically associated with Thai food. we asked for spice we could add but were just brought chili flakes and dine not cook in it wasn't really helpful. This Thai bistro is very conveniently located right next to the Wheaton train station! I placed an order for pick up prime time Friday night. The place was super busy! At peak times, I would suggest calling ahead. It's a small space but they made it super cozy and it has nice decor. Perfect for a date night. I would avoid large groups. While the restaurant was nice, they were super behind on all their pickup orders. I was told to arrive at 6:30 for my food, and it wasn't ready until 6:50. There were a bunch of other people waiting for their pick up orders too. You could tell people were a little frustrated. The staff was accommodating, but they seemed a little flustered and there wasn't really a set person manning the front. I think an apology for the wait would have gone a long way with all the pick up people. As far as the food - I really enjoyed my chicken pad see ewe!! It was tasty and the portion was great. Very fresh. I wasn't very impressed with the chicken fried rice. I am still in search of good fried rice in the area! The cost for the pad see ewe was reasonable, but the fried rice was a little pricey for the dish. I would go back! I ordered directly from their website for pick up and set a time in advance to get it and the food was ready when I got there for pick up. It was about a 15 minute drive and my food was still hot when I got home! The staff was very friendly when I walked in! The chicken Fried Rice was delicious and for $14 the portion was very big, a great value! The sweet mangoes with stick rice was the star of the meal, it was absolutely delicious! We haven't found a good Thai place since moving to the area 4 years ago and we're so glad we found Simply Thai Bistro. I ordered takeout just before getting my haircut next door and put a pick up time in the notes. The restaurant had my food ready right when I was done. Our daughter doesn't like Japanese tempura because the batter has a sweetness to it, so she was skeptical of this tempura. She loved it and I was surprised how much of it there was. The shrimp spring rolls were super fresh and delicious. We like heat and the medium heat lemon chicken was delicious. By far our favorite was the basil fried rice with medium heat. I wish I had taken a picture, but my grandson and I ordered take-out last night: Pad Thai w/ Chicken, Pad Thai w/ Shrimp, and Pot Stickers. Maybe because it was close to closing time (7:20pm), but the Pad Thai was all brown, flavorless, and without peanuts or green onion, or carrot--absolutely no color except brown. Cute little place, family owned with great service. A spot you must try. My family and I love Thai food and this was our first time trying it. We started off with the crab in a bag. These were delicate wrapped bits in wonton wrapping filled with shrimp and crab deep fried. Highly recommend. Entrees were pad Thai with shrimp, duck with basil sauce and green curry and shrimp.
