Pho was so so or sa sa but not great. Nice remodel from the old Chinese restaurant or waitress was attentive some of the other staff look like they couldn't be bothered. Hostess was attractive but could've upped her personality level to be a little friendlier and more accommodating after all this is a new place. Beware of the fish sauce absolutely the worst smelling fish sauce I have ever experienced and what a mistake it was to taste it! I realize traditional fish sauce is made with rotting fermenting fish left out in barrels in the sun but this one was particularly obnoxious. It is a welcome and needed addition to James Island and if they can tighten things up they should do well. Perhaps they need a field trip to Phoung on Rivers Ave and use that as a benchmark. read more

I've only done takeout so I can't attest to the dining experience, but the food was good. It was ready in the time quoted to me on the phone. The hostess was very kind in greeting me when I arrived and showing me where to go and pay. The lo mein was lick the plate good, but the pho broth left something to be desired. I would order it again, but it doesn't seem this will be a replacement for Co or any other options off Rivers Ave. Pho broth is a delicacy and takes love and time. This place is great. My wife and I are from CA and found it pretty hard to get great Asian food here in the low country so we are thankful for this place. I swear we eat here at least once a week. Pho wasn't good Walked in with my wife and he told us sit wherever and gave one menu for two people at a table.... Once he brought the food out he never came to check on us to see how did it taste.... If you love pho, don't get pho at the moment. It was a BIG disappointment. Everything you use is plastic. I didn't expect to get a $13 bowl of pho in a $4.95 plastic bowl. Not worth the money. No condiments for your pho except thaT one sauce cup they make for you (hoisin and sriracha) and plate of veggies. Service was not decent. It was difficult enough to request for more condiments even if they need to put it in a plastic sauce cup. The sweet tea was not good. It tasted like it was old. The lemon they gave you was shriveled up. They charge you for a dish that you never bought. The only thing we bought that was good is the house special lo mein. read more

Went there during their grand opening. Service was mediocre. Took 30 mins to get my pho and there weren't many patrons in the restaurant. In addition, I could overhear the servers gossiping about their clients which creates an awkward situation in general. Only had the pho and it was okay. Yesterday afternoon was the second time my wife and I have eaten at Pho Saigon on James Island. We originally happened on this pleasant Vietnamese/Chinese restaurant in the James Island shopping center across from Wappoo, near Harris Teeter, by chance and went in for lunch because we were hungry and will go out of our way for Vietnamese pho. The restaurant is run by a family from Danang, Vietnam, and has been open for about two years. I wish we had known about it earlier. Previously we traveled once to North Charleston for pho, which was much inferior to the one served here. The only other place in the Charleston area that has decent pho is Co on King Street. So far, at Pho Saigon we have only eaten the pho, but we were pleased to see that they also offer a variety of what they call "New York Style Chinese Cuisine." I saw one of their Chinese dishes, which did look authentic. We are eager to bring our son and his family here, because they are fans of Chinese food, and my son appreciates good pho. Especially pleasing about this restaurant is its ambiance. They have five comfortable booths and several tables and also have a takeout menu. They offer beer and wine, although the wine selection is limited. I like either with these cuisines, but probably would opt for beer with my dinner. We plan to be regulars. They were not busy, so word or mouth would help. read more

The Asian male waiter host not friendly if your Asian and lack of customer service. Food is not bad but will not come in again due to bad service. Been waiting 20 mins and he has test to take my family's order. An America gentlemen came in after us and the Asian waiter greeted him and took his order right away. Not Asian friendly. read more

I'm really sad to say that they did not meet my expectations. We just moved from Hawaii where they have some amazing Pho spots, and some may say I am a little obsessed with Pho. I really miss the amazing pho place down the street from my house and was hoping I could find some yummy pho in Charleston. I ordered the shrimp pho with extra veggies. The veggies were yummy they had a great variety in there for me, but the broth was just not good. It just tasted watered down and had too much oil floating on top. I had to douse the whole thing in hoisin sauce to give it some more flavor. I also ordered the summer rolls which were okay, nothing to write home about. The peanut dipping sauce was quite good though. My husband had the Pad Thai which was a special that night, he said he enjoyed it but they used thicker noodles than what he is used to. They were more like the Pad See Ew noodles. As far as the service our waiter was nice and got us drinks and food quickly. The place wasn't too crowded but it was also a super rainy gross evening so maybe everyone was staying home. I am going to continue searching for a new pho place as this just isn't it for me. read more

Pho Saigon always came up on my Vietnamese cuisine searches in Charleston area. We never made an attempt because this place is a little bit of a of drive from our house. We finally tried it tonight on the way to see Christmas lights at James Island county park. We are so glad to have found a decent Vietnamese restaurant in Charleston. This place is lovely. Dark wood inside, soft music, excellent service. The menu is three pages in length = something for everyone. Part of the menu is Vietnamese food, and the other part is called "New York Style Chinese". I ordered the sesame chicken and it was delicious and a huge amount of food. The third time is not the charm. The first time we went to Pho Saigon we waited in line in the lobby for several minutes to be told they were closing early (mind you it was 30-40 minutes before they're scheduled closing time). The second and third times, months apart, the food was good but the service was terrible It took 10 minutes to get menus, another 10 for someone to actually take our order and close to 30 to get our food. Our waiter never returned to the table once he dropped off the food. We had to ask the waitress tending to the table beside us for water refills and after waiting to catch a glimpse of our waiter for way too long, I walked to the bar to ask for a box for my leftovers. After several more minutes, the bartender brought the box not our waiter-we never saw him after he brought our food. I'm pretty certain we won't return. I think three try's to get it right is enough. read more

The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is cause I've only been once. I'm from northern VA where there are excellent Asian restaurants. This place could hold its own. We started with fried dumplings. They were pan fried not deep fried. Delicious. I had egg drop soup. Very good. I tried the Udon soup special. $10. It has lots of shredded white meat chicken. My wife had the Sesame Chicken. For $12 it was a large plate of large white meat chunks. Very tasty. Both dishes came piping hot. The place was very clean. Our server was nice and attentive. I'll be back. Lunch today was our first visit to Pho Saigon and it won't be our last. My husband had the mi xao ga from the Vietnamese menu and I had the moo goo gai pan from the Chinese lunch special side of the menu. While the prices may be a little over average for similar restaurants on James Island, the quality and flavor was definitely worth it. Give this one a try if you enjoy something other than bar food or pizza on James Island. ( Also, try the Italian restaurant, Amalfi, just few doors away.
