I loved it. No reservations required and plenty of tables. It's a very clean well ordered establishment. Also plenty of free parking right outside. The staff could not have been any better, prompt, attentive & very knowledgeable about the menu. The round table we sat had had a "lazy Susan" to facilitate the sharing of dishes. We ordered based on recommendations, personal taste & heat levels. The dishes were absolutely delicious. So good. I think the Peking Duck was the star of the show. Beautiful Chinese-themed Restaurant, nice relaxing atmosphere. Stopped in for lunch on Friday afternoon with a coworker; we were the only twoin the place for the 30 minutes we were there. I had wanted to try Old Li's for a long time and figured Lunar New Year was a good time to get some takeout. I called in a pickup order around 8:30 on a Wednesday and it was ready in 15 minutes. We ordered steamed dumplings, spicy chicken, string beans, and fried noodles with vegetables. I wasn't sure how things would be to-go but everything was excellent and hot. The dumplings though were some of the best I've had, and the dipping sauce was so special!! I can't wait to order those again. The spicy chicken is truly spicy but delicious - they were cooked perfectly and on little bones - tons of flavor. Noodles were solid and the string beans majorly hit the spot. This review is based on UberEats delivery. I arrived late in CHS, and was craving for authentic Chinese food. I was so glad when I saw this place and good reviews. You know the food is good when you see wooden chairs with plastic covered seat and dragon wallarts. I ordered half order Peking Duck and vegetable lomein. It arrived in the cutest Hello Kitty foodbag, that I reused as lunchbag for the time I was in town. Pekin Duck was delicious. The skin was not as crispy, but I guess it is because of delivery. A mix of what you'd get with a Western Saloon design with a distinctly Asian flair on the outside. Food here was ok, Sichuan-ish style but on the sweet side. Lunch specials come with a soda. We ended up having enough people to order from the main menu. Hot & sour soup was really sweet and not sour, and they had a nice trio of homemade pickles/kimchi which was probably the best part. Coriander beef was good, though, as a cold dish / appetizer. Well-seasoned and good portion. Chicken chow mein was ok, though noodles were overcooked in oil and falling apart (tough to eat with the chopsticks). They need to do the noodle even less al dente if sautéing with the sauce/chicken after. Griddle cauliflower w/ pork was on the sweet side instead of spicy. Scallion fish also on the heavier side of soy sauce, and not spicy (even though marked as such), falling apart so you needed to use a spoon. Rice came in a fun bamboo container, like an old water or carry container. Overall service was good, not too omnipresent, and they were able to accommodate our table of 5 easily at lunch. read more

This is our 5th visit and man what an amazing food adventure. Don't be squeamish, try the Sangu frog, and the Peking duck, you will not be disappointed. Oohh the spicy strings beans......omg yum ! On a work trip and decided to try Old Li's. What a find! Seated quickly and the staff was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was authentic and warm. I ordered kung pao chicken which came with a side of steamed rice. The serving size was very generous. Also ordered a small spiced sour soup and it was enough to feed a family. All was very tasty! I came in for lunch on a Sunday and we were immediately seated. Our waiters were kind and it's a casual atmosphere. They have the traditional tables that spin the entrees around (I assume you have to be a party of 5+ to get that table unless you request it). We ordered the fried chicken because Asian fried chicken just hits different than normal fried chicken. My boyfriend got to try it for the first time and agrees. We also got the stir fried green beans which were so delicious. I love that it comes on a little tealight to keep it nice and hot! Was visiting North Charleston and hungry for Chinese food. We stopped in late in the evening and tried a couple dishes. We ordered the dumpling soup and the Yuxiang pork and the braised eggplant. Both appetizers came out before the soup. The pork dish was fine but I did not enjoy the sweet-and-sour flavor but I generally don't like sweet-and-sour soup or that flavor so that's just me. I probably should've ordered it a different dish. The braised eggplant was fresh hot and tasty. When the soup finally came out, it was very nice. Large meaty dumplings and a tasty broth. I would definitely try this place for Chinese food as the food appeared to be of good quality and very fresh. I just ordered one dish that wasn't to my liking but again I would definitely try this place if you wanted Chinese. It's definitely not your run-of-the-mill Chinese restaurant so I'm sure there are plenty of dishes that are above average. I would rate a 4.2 if I could. read more

We ordered chicken spring rolls, hot and sour soup, seaweed egg soup, seafood noodle soup, and stir fried green beans. The seaweed soup was the best with good flavor. The spring rolls were ok. Old Li's came in clutch after being in Georgia and South Carolina and not seeing any good Chinese food restaurants. We just so happened to stumble upon this as we touched down from a long days travel from Atlanta Georgia back to Charleston South Carolina. We called at 9:30 just 30 minutes before they closed and they said they would still seat us. We arrived at 9:45, ordered and we had all of our orders by 10:00. We left around 10:30 and they were still as accommodating as if we were to come during normal business hours. They didn't rush us and they even made conversation with our table. Food was exceptional. After a weeks long trip of eating Southern style food, American style and even BBQ our family needed some authentic Chinese cuisine. They had some spicy dishes, but they also had some non-spicy dishes. They had a wide range of dishes for all ages. My wife loved the ambiance and said everything was nicely decorated and cute. Old Li's was great! We usually cook Chinese food at home but we wanted to take my parents out for dinner. We got braised tofu, spicy fish dish, spicy beef dish, and stir fried green beans. White rice comes with everything and you can request more. We had heard about Old Li's from a family member and we happened to be around Tanger so decided to give it a shot. The place is legit, very extensive menu and some dishes that looked to be very authentic. We ordered very safe dishes but we really enjoyed our meal. This restaurant is great for a family style type of dinner where you can order many different dishes and split stuff. We enjoyed our pork dumplings, as well as the veggie spring rolls and fried rice. We look forward to coming back with more family, and trying more dishes. The dinner tables have a lazy Suzanne so moving dishes around is easy. I was very impressed. From the moment we walked in the staff was super friendly. We were seated right away and they brought our drinks along with kimchi vegetables. The spicy wontons were delicious. They had the right amount of spice. The green beans really surprised me. They were seasoned so well and were still crisp. My friend ordered the duck and she enjoyed it. We visited Old Li's on my birthday this weekend and it was excellent. This restaurant was originally located in West Ashley and recently moved to this new location new Tanger outlet with ample parking. The new restaurant is much larger and is now a standalone building versus the strip mall it once was located. The decorations and ambiance were nice, much better than the old location. Props on the upgrades! The food was great for the most part. We ordered close to ten dishes including the whole Peking Duck, String Beans, Eggplant, Braised Beef, and Ma Pa Tofu. The Peking Duck dish was excellent and was cut perfectly as well as well prepared dish (presentation-wise). It came with plenty of pancakes, cucumber and scallions, as we as, the must have hoisin sauce. The string bean and eggplant dishes didn't have much flavor. Perhaps more garlic or sauce. The braised beef was okay, but the vegetables in the dish were lovely and very exquisite. The Ma Pa Tofu was well seasoned and excellent flavor. It was not as spicy as some Ma Pa Tofu such as Sichuan Style with spices and peppercorn flavors. However it was our favorite dish of the night. Overall, we would order the Peking Duck and the Ma Pa Tofu again, not the others due to lack of flavor. But, will try other dishes since they have a huge variety menu. The Appetizers we ordered include chicken wings and pan fried dumplings. The chicken wings were typical Chinese fried chicken but were good and crunchy per son's feedback. The pan fried dumplings were rather tasty and didn't taste like frozen, but homemade with seasoned filling. The dumplings were worth ordering again but we may pass on the chicken wings next time. If you're looking for some authentic Chinese food, this is probably the only place local you can find with decent price and excellent flavor. read more

As a huge fan of authentic Sichuan Chinese food, I have been on the hunt in the Charleston area for a place like Old Li's. This is where you go if you want real, delicious Chinese food. We had hot tea with our meal which helps with digestion. My favorites were the beef in chili oil (not pictured), the spicy wontons, and the eggplant; but truly everything was delicious. They offer chopsticks and forks and the chopsticks even have Chinese writing that we looked up and it says Old Li's Restaurant which was really cool. We are already planning to go back later this week and wish it was even closer to our home than it already is. read more

We went on New Year's Eve and it was incredibly. We were seated almost immediately, and the menu was one of the most diverse I've seen in ages. The decor was amazing, and everything seemed authentic. The waiter brought out our food within 5-10 minutes of ordering. Before tip, it was only $88 for three people--while that may sound like a lot, we were able to make multiple meals out of it. Frankly, my expectations weren't that high even after I discovered this place did make some vegetarian dishes. And it's one of those strip mall joints that has nothing like the atmosphere you'd get in the hip part of Charleston. However, what I received was an excellent quality tea, some complimentary vegetable side dishes, and a bangin' ma po tofu. Of the cold sides, the cabbage was extremely spicy (but good), the radish (I think) offered a nice crunchy contrast in textures, and the cucumber was not for me. My ma po tofu had visible fermented broad beans, dried chilis, and sichuan peppercorns, the proper ingredients which yielded a complex, ineffable flavor. Unfortunately had some broccoli in there too, which is neither Chinese nor good, but I picked it out and still had a good lunch and got out of there for under $20 with tip. I wasn't thrilled that they had little plastic forks, and I wish they offered more than one tofu dish (though there were interesting vegetables), but relative to any reasonable standard, this is as good quality food as I could possibly expect to find in this sort of place. read more

Authentic. This is the mantra of the minds behind Old Li's Restaurant. When you step inside you are met with decorations and items from the far east all shipped over from China. I immediately felt a vibe similar to Dragon Palace on Daniels Island with lots of lazy Susan tables perfect for sharing a great meal. Old Li's is much bigger though with a lot more seating. Service is friendly and attentive, and the food came out so fast I had a hard time keeping up! I tried the cold black tea bottled beverage and really enjoyed its bold taste. I would buy this in stores if they sold it. We started with the Chicken Spring rolls which were flavorful and meaty but ate more like egg rolls with their crispy shell and sweet chili sauce. Next, we went with the Fried rice with added shrimp and were met with the largest serving I have ever received anywhere. The rice was very good and provided two more leftover meal after. We tried the Salt and Pepper shrimp which were served on a skewer and were a very good size. They were tasty but a heads up that they are served shells on, and you are supposed to eat the shell which provides a crunch factor. Now the Sweet and Sour ribs were downright amazing! They are fried to a nice crisp with a zesty sweet and sour sauce and were very meaty. When you go here you must try them! After reading a number of reviews were had to try the Peking Duck. Tender duck slices with a wonderfully crunchy skin which comes with their sauce and little wafer-thin squares of pancake to wrap the slices, cucumber and mixed greens to create a tasty little duck wrap. My husband and I went to Old Li's for the first time since they moved to their new location near Tanger, and we enjoyed our meal even more than we did when we ate at the old location last year. The new location is bigger and nicer than the previous space, and the restaurant now has several tables for larger parties to dine family style. All of the servers were bustling around running food and filling drinks, and were so nice. We started with the steamed dumplings, and then ordered fried noodles with vegetables and egg fried rice with chicken. We also tried the spicy beef and the drunken pork ribs. All of the food was amazing, so flavorful, and the portions were very large. We had leftovers enough for a second dinner! We did carry out and the containers were not filled to the top, maybe just a bit over halfway, barely any meat in the protein entrees we ordered, and portions were a lot smaller than what I'd seen in the restaurant. I was surprised the entrees didn't come with white rice, either. Had we known; we would have ordered some, but I'm so used to white rice coming with it.
