Wow. Since the closing of our beloved Fortune Garden on University Blvd., we've desperately been in search of a Chinese restaurant worthy of replacing our favourite Chinese spot for over a decade. We believe our search is over, and we declare Great Wall our new go-to spot. We walked up to the counter and the young man patiently took our order. We then sat down and noted most of the orders ready for take out were for rice and fried chicken. I became a little anxious, as our order seemed to drag on, and I wondered silently if we were set for another disappointment. We've been hoping to find a new restaurant before Christmas Day, as we've planned this as our yuletide meal this year, and we've been searching since Fortune Garden unexpectedly closed on New Years Day this year. Our order was finally called, we were granted our various sauces, we retrieved everything and headed home. We began unpacking everything from the brown paper bag and I noticed a couple of things immediately: our order was correct, the food was hot...but then, something else caught my eye. The egg foo young gravy. Now, if you're a connoisseur of the egg foo young, you've undoubtedly run across sub-par gravy: thick, lumpy, gray and not terribly inviting. This was not that gravy. The concoction was a dark brown, silky and smooth. The taste of egg foo young and gravy was heavenly. We then tried the house special fried rice and the egg rolls. Definitely closest to our beloved Fortune Garden. You should make Great Wall your new forever Chinese takeout restaurants. Maybe we'll see you there on Christmas! read more

Great Wall is our absolute go-to. The food is always so good and the service is amazing. Everyone is super friendly and makes you feel taken care of every time. Really great family that owns the place. My husband and I literally drive 45 minutes from Mount Pleasant just to get this for dinner, and we've never once regretted it. It's Friday night and I don't feel like cooking. Decided to get some Chinese, so I stopped by and placed an order for the House Chow Mei Fun minus pork. It's been quite awhile since I've dined here. Not much has changed. The staff is friendly and they were busy prepping to go orders. It wasn't busy inside, just one couple dining. My order was ready in about 10 minutes and I took it home to enjoy. I had a generous portion size and it tastes good. They didn't provide any sauce with my order, so luckily I had some at home. The worst Chinese takeout I've ever had and that's saying a lot as I have tried other takeout spots that were blah. Just like everyone else the customer service is slack and they have an attitude. Secondly and most importantly the quality of food is very suspect. Not sure how you can mess up good old fashioned General Tsaos chicken but they did. The chicken was undercooked and the general sauce was watery. Like soup watery. Their "hibachi chicken" was just their lo mein without the noodles and the "white sauce" tasted like mayonnaise because well, that's all it was mayonnaise. Will never return. Our go-to Chinese in the area. The staff here are so friendly. The lady at the counter remembers our order without having to tell her. I got the sesame chick combo which had cooked to perfection chicken and the fried rice was also perfect. Egg roll just the right size and flavor. The food is very tasty and portions are perfect. Not a bad place to stop for Chinese Food in the Summerville area. The young lady that works the front counter area (not sure if she is one of the owners) always greets me right away and is friendly and professional. The food is always prepared very quickly, (5-10 minutes) and is always very hot when served. The mongolian beef is best Chinese dish ever The wife have frequent the Great Wall many times. We always love to get the cold sesame noodles along with one of the many other dishes. This time we checked out the Mongolian beef, which not only have we never tried at the great wall, but never taken a chance to check it out at any other restaurant. This one dish became our instant favorite Chinese dish ever, and form now on our orders will consists of 2 servings of cold sesame noodles and 2 servings Mongolian Beef. No other dishes need apply. I have to add that this place was packed with people getting to go orders. The normal 15 min, took about 40 min. Frankly I don't know how the lady taking and handing out orders kept up. She looked frantic on the outside, but she just kept running around, taking orders over the phone and at the counter, while at the same taking payments and handing out orders when they were ready. Their menu is extensive with TONS of options and the food is well made. The flavor is there, everything fried is nice and crispy and nothing is stale and the pricing is fantastic! We got the sweet & sour shrimp, chicken lo mien (which has bamboo shoots so this made this dish even better to me), the lobster sauce shrimp (which I surprisingly have not found elsewhere), crab rangoons and egg drop soup!
