On my journey of finding a good family owned Chinese restaurant around Summerville. And this is not it! The only reason why I'm even giving this place a 3 is because of their pork dumplings. In a strip mall connected to Publix and it was quite busy with take out orders. The kids at the counter were nice and I ordered Mongolian chicken, chicken lo mein and dumplings. Now I've had Mongolian beef AND chicken soo many times and correct me if I'm wrong it always just has green and white onions and some places do use rice sticks in a sweet brown sauce. If you look in that picture, does that look like Mongolian at all? There's mushrooms, celery, peppers, and the sauce is like red and a little spicy. The lo mein was very bland, and the chicken pieces they give you are huge. I could not eat whatever that dish they gave me was. Looked like some type of Sichuan or something, just NOT Mongolian chicken. I actually brought this back the next day and asked who I thought was the owner "can you tell me what dish this is?" She said something along the lines of chicken with veggies in whatever sauce. Then I said "right so this is not Mongolian chicken right?" she paused for a bit then said "oh yeah yeah this is Mongolian chicken" I thought to myself there is no way and she's just agreeing with me since I mentioned it. Anywho I asked her nicely to please just let me replace this dish with something else like beef and broccoli and so she did and thankfully that was better. I will not come back here again unless it's for the dumplings because those were at least tasty and they give you like 9-10. The pricing here overall is affordable and not over priced. But don't expect to get good quality or flavorful food. A little salt or MSG would've went a long way, especially for Chinese food.

We did some take out from this place and was amazed. We paid like $26 and was very satisfied. It came fresh out of the kitchen. Shrimp fried rice has decent amount of shrimp and the honey wings dinner, oh my. Can you see how much wings is that? General tso is more on the sweet side but is very good. The chicken teriyaki on the stick is also great, tender and seasoned nicely. This is not bad for what we paid for. We tried this place like 4 times, first 2 times are not as good but we keep on giving it a chance and today was just perfect. They have the tendency to be "hit or miss" that is why I removed a star.

Shrimp fried rice and 4 chicken wing went up to $8.50! Not worth it for hair and feathers!

I was wondering what took them so long to open back to the public, now I see. Food is not as good as it be on certain days, but I'm still stuck on why so much feathers is on they chicken, not to mention the hair! They went up .50 cents for the kids rude attitude! The whole family seem to be so angry with one another til the customer service is even more awful! The kids that been sitting to the table since they where toddlers are now working taking orders. Rude and very no manners still, I called to let them mother know that her daughter is very rude; she say yea, yea I know what you wanna order? Excuse me, nevermind and this is the last time I will patronize they business! Good luck but the food lately is kinda up and down but we can't keep overlooking the chicken not being cleaned! Another reason you'll never see them eating what they serve!

I usually love China kitchen but tonight just changed my mind about them. First, they got my order wrong. Then after picking all of the vegetables that I requested to not include, as I'm eating I found a dead fly in my food.

The hot and sour soup was really good, and they give you those crispy wonton strips to complement the soup, which I looove. However, all of the dishes we ordered were MUCH TOO SALTY and doused with sauce. My recommendation is ordering from their "Health Menu" in which they cook the food without the sauce, then give you the sauce and the rice on the side. The food may look unappetizing that way, but it actually tastes good AND you get you decide how much sauce to put in your food. They give you a pint of sauce anyway, which is way more than enough for any dish!

We usually stick to C28 with white rice and they don't disappoint. Family owned and we have been order for nearly 20 years.

Combination plate is a lot of food and I made a couple meals out of it. I got sweet and sour chicken with pork fried rice. I really like their rice which had little chunks of pork and peas and carrots. The chicken was good but I was expecting chunks of pineapple and carrots which most places add. Chicken had good flavor and they give you lots of sauce for dipping. Egg roll was large and full of flavor. For the price it's a really good deal and yummy. We also got beef and broccoli. Neat was tender and broccoli has some crunch to it.

Located off of Ladson Rd in an easily accessible area, China City has decent enough food to warrant…read morerepeat visits. That said when I came into the store it wasn't so pleasant with water all over the broken tile floor, the minimalist décor and seating options. It's like the tables are just there to let people sit while waiting for their food. That said, the cashier/owner was extremely friendly and quick to greet me. This visit, I decided not to indulge in any appetizers rather focusing on main course. Just to note it up front the food is extremely well priced with many dishes like fried rice having options for amounts. I rather liked that as it gave me a chance to sample a lot of food without having to get dinner portions. The review I'll start with the pork fried rice. I'm not sure why, but there was a musty smell to it, like it picked up a funk in the fridge (most fried rice is cooked the day before and held in a fridge over night to allow crystal formation leading to a more absorbent rice the next day). The rice was cooked perfectly however I would have preferred a little more egg and small veggies like peas in it. The pork was salty perfection and almost unctuous to the mouth. It was a decent dish but not stellar. The beef and broccoli lost me. The beef had little flavor and extremely chewy, perhaps by not adding baking soda to tenderize the meat. The broccoli was extremely stiff and could have used a little more cooking time all while the sauce wasn't very flavorful. I was so looking forward to this dish too. Next up was the Lo Mein. I wish restaurants would be more consistent as these noodles weren't plump round but almost ramen and slender like. While this may sound trivial the shape of food makes a different in flavor. For instance, elbow macaroni doesn't taste like spaghetti even though they're the same ingredients. That's because it hits the taste buds differently and tricks our minds into thinking it's a flavor rather than texture. Finally, and I noticed this off the bat, is great Chinese restaurants have a slight smoky flavor to Lo Mein and fried rice among some other dishes. This is subtle yet can really elevate the dish and it comes from a wok that's been seasoned for years. I know I'm nitpicking here but these things really make a difference. Overall, the dish was average but enough shrimp were in it to make it cost feasible and lots of cabbage and carrots. The final dish was the Mei Fun which I absolutely loved as it was very close to traditional. Thin rice noodles like vermicelli are cooking without any kind of sauce to note while plenty of onions, carrots and eggs along with the meat are present. I'm still not sure why they skipped the green onion tops and bean sprouts as that's almost the star of the dish. Still, the dish was cooked perfectly and I enjoyed it. Overall, China City is an above average Chinese restaurant with traditional fair. While all the food doesn't hit the bullseye, it's not that far off, just personal knit picking on my part. Well, besides the chewy beef and musty rice. The people are nice and while I think the inside of the restaurant needs some TLC, if they're business is 90% delivery then it's a moot point. The food is the star and it's not bad. Give it a try if you have that itch!

My husband and I ordered take out. The first sign something was off, was the box our order came in: a flour tortilla wrap box. WTF?? Everything we ordered tasted like fake food. Like it came out of a machine or factory or somewhere untouched by humans. When we threw the food out, it left a weird slimy-looking dark residue on the inside of all the styrofoam boxes that would not rinse off. I've never seen anything like this. Needless to say, we were very turned off by the whole experience and I can say with certainty that we will not be back. Can't say I would recommend :(

I called in a takeout order on a Friday evening and the food was ready quickly and the staff was friendly. There is no dine in service, which was not a problem. The food was... not good. The egg drop soup was a good color, nice and dark yellow, but quite runny and just pretty bland. The pork egg foo young was fine, had lots of pork in it, but again, was bland. The sauce that usually comes with egg foo young should be a darker, glossy brown, but the sauce that came with this was a thick, colorless, flavorless breakfast looking gravy that was awful. The Cantonese boneless chicken was terrible as well, and for some reason was drowning in the bland, colorless gravy as well. The Pagoda fried rice hardly had any meat in it, and I understood this to be their house fried rice, which should have had several types of meat included. Even the egg rolls were bland. I definitely will not be returning, and the search for a new regular Chinese takeout spot continues...
