We did this as takeout. On the positive: fast, economical and large quantities. Staff is quick and efficient. On the negative side, taste is so-so. We hear routinely that it's hard to get good Chinese food in this part of the country. So far that appears to be true. My wife had the cashew chicken combination plate. The egg roll was good. The pork flavored rice was also good. Vegetables and meat were a bit bland. We counted 3 cashews, so that was a bit disappointing. I had the kung po gee din. Everything was there in terms of vegetables and meat. But hot/spicey it was not. I do some Asian cooking and there are 2 things that make a difference: freshness and sauce. Vegetables in neither dish were terribly fresh. The sauces lacked the strong flavor profile that should be there. In particular there seemed to be no vinegar or other acid flavors. Not strongly soy sauce flavored, which is sometimes done to fool the palate into thinking it's more umami than it is. Just a bit generic in taste. They're obviously trying hard, but they don't quite have it. read more

On my journey of finding a good family owned Chinese restaurant around Summerville. And this is not it! The only reason why I'm even giving this place a 3 is because of their pork dumplings. In a strip mall connected to Publix and it was quite busy with take out orders. The kids at the counter were nice and I ordered Mongolian chicken, chicken lo mein and dumplings. Now I've had Mongolian beef AND chicken soo many times and correct me if I'm wrong it always just has green and white onions and some places do use rice sticks in a sweet brown sauce. If you look in that picture, does that look like Mongolian at all? There's mushrooms, celery, peppers, and the sauce is like red and a little spicy. The lo mein was very bland, and the chicken pieces they give you are huge. I could not eat whatever that dish they gave me was. Looked like some type of Sichuan or something, just NOT Mongolian chicken. I actually brought this back the next day and asked who I thought was the owner "can you tell me what dish this is?" She said something along the lines of chicken with veggies in whatever sauce. Then I said "right so this is not Mongolian chicken right?" she paused for a bit then said "oh yeah yeah this is Mongolian chicken" I thought to myself there is no way and she's just agreeing with me since I mentioned it. Anywho I asked her nicely to please just let me replace this dish with something else like beef and broccoli and so she did and thankfully that was better. I will not come back here again unless it's for the dumplings because those were at least tasty and they give you like 9-10. The pricing here overall is affordable and not over priced. But don't expect to get good quality or flavorful food. A little salt or MSG would've went a long way, especially for Chinese food. read more

Just about standard Chinese take out. I requested medium spiciness/ heat in my Hunan chicken combo. It wasn't spicy at all. Pepper Steak combo was better than average according to BF. Better than average egg roll. I really enjoyed the Crab Rangoon. Very light crispy wonton wrap around a sweeter than average cream cheese filling . I am not sure I tasted any crab or green onion but they were enjoyable never the less . No need for plum sauce they were sweeter than I've had elsewhere.. We did some take out from this place and was amazed. We paid like $26 and was very satisfied. It came fresh out of the kitchen. Shrimp fried rice has decent amount of shrimp and the honey wings dinner, oh my. Can you see how much wings is that? General tso is more on the sweet side but is very good. The chicken teriyaki on the stick is also great, tender and seasoned nicely. This is not bad for what we paid for. We tried this place like 4 times, first 2 times are not as good but we keep on giving it a chance and today was just perfect. I love this place . I always get the same thing (general tso chicken and shrimp fried rice) and order over the phone so I can go in and out without having to talk much because I get anxious a lot . The people there are so sweet .. food is amazing . each and every time . I was wondering what took them so long to open back to the public, now I see. I've been in SC for two years now, and I'm still looking for a "go to" Chinese restaurant. Sesame chicken is my favorite Chinese dish, but I just can't seem to find a place here that meets my taste. I'm used to sesame chicken with sauce that is a bit on the orange side, and every sesame chicken I've had here has dark brown sauce. This place is so close to where I live, and I was excited, but nope- I'm still searching. The young woman who waited on me was so soft spoken that I had to ask her to repeat herself several times - every single time she said something. There were a bunch of young children behind the counter, which was a bit off-putting. The sesame chicken was just okay - not bad but not good. The pork fried rice was flavorless, and the egg roll was mostly roll without veggies. All in all, not a great experience. The hunt is still on for a Chinese restaurant home. read more

The hot and sour soup was really good, and they give you those crispy wonton strips to complement the soup, which I looove. However, all of the dishes we ordered were MUCH TOO SALTY and doused with sauce. My recommendation is ordering from their "Health Menu" in which they cook the food without the sauce, then give you the sauce and the rice on the side. The food may look unappetizing that way, but it actually tastes good AND you get you decide how much sauce to put in your food. They give you a pint of sauce anyway, which is way more than enough for any dish! read more

Not the best Chinese I've had but not the worst either. The General Tso's Chicken sauce is not even remotely spicy (as it should be) and it's very sweet. I have come here for dine in and takeout for the whole family on numerous occasions. The food is generally good but very inconsistent. Do you like beef lo mein...prepare yourself for giant pieces of beef one time and little specks of it the next. When you order shrimp chow mein, you usually get shrimp...sometimes small shrimp, sometimes big. Sometimes the shrimp is chicken. They tight pack the small order of boneless ribs and loose pack the big one. The quality and form of the ingredients change so often that you can eat there everyday and not have the same dish, even if you order the same exact dish. They were my go to place for Chinese but today I found a chunk of steel scrubbing pad so, time for a new place. Update 28 MAY 2020: Felt compelled to lower my previous review. Decided to order from here after a couple of years hiatus and since Dragon House is temporarily closed. We ordered orange beef, shrimp chow mein and a half dozen egg rolls. We picked it up and when we got home, surprise!...shrimp and chicken lo mein with mushrooms instead of chow mein. Ok, mistakes happen, that's not the reason for the bad review. Called them up to let them know they messed up the order. The person answering the phone started asking questions like "Well the orange beef was right, right?" "Are you sure?" What was infuriating was that when we ordered the chow mein, we were met with "You know that's just vegetables?" And they still messed it up. Finally after going around and around, the apology and "We'll do better next time" never came. We we offered the option to drive back and exchange what we received. I figured I would save the time and the aggravation and just let them know that acknowledging a mistake and saying sorry goes a long way instead of arguing with customers when you are clearly wrong. We'll just cross this place off the list and leave a word to the wise on Yelp. read more

We have gone to this restaurant for a number of years and always found it to be one of the best Chinese take-out restaurants around. Veggies and meats were always very fresh and service was exceptional. However, these past months have greatly tarnished our opinion. The last three times we have called in food the order was not ready until well after the amount of time they stated and the food quality has not been to the same standards. But, last night may have caused us to never try the restaurant again. We called in an order and they said food would be ready in 15 minutes. Because we knew their time estimates had been off lately, we waited an hour to go and food still was not ready, yet they were still telling people 15 minutes. We watched more than one person come in and order while we were standing there and walk out with their food a short time later. After 1 1/2 hours from call-in time, we asked others how long they had been waiting. A number of them were also over an hour from call-in. We decided to ask cashier about our food for the third time. She is not one of the owner's children, who are friendly and usually very efficient. She was an employee we have encountered in the past and one who has been rude each time. Once again, she was extremely disrespectful and told us we should expect this on a Friday night. She literally walked away from us, in the middle of our discussion, to help someone else. We waited five more minutes and when food was not ready, we told her we had watched people come in and order while standing there and walk out with food. She told us that was not true. First rule of customer service...you don't call your customer a liar and adopt a belligerent attitude, especially when they have been polite and patient, along with the fact many other waiting customers saw the same thing. Their Chinese is better than most quick serves. I ordered Mongolian beef. Even though it's rated hot and spicy. They were willing to tone the heat down, and made it quite enjoyable. Szechuan is normally very hot. It was the first time I had ordered egg fried rice and had to pay a 1.00 for each egg I wanted in it. To switch from an egg roll to egg drop soup it was an up charge of 1.75. Most places let you switch for free. But overall the food is on the better side of quick serves. read more
