The bathroom is disgusting. I get that I didn't go the the restaurant for its bathroom, but it is expected that a patron will want to wash his/her hands before eating. And if how they maintain their bathroom is an indication of how they treat sanitation or their kitchen, then it's classified as Disgusting. BTW the Bun Mang Vit is deficient. Great food but service still needs work. I had ordered a spring roll and pho gau. I got the pho but not the spring rolls (server didn't hear me). The pho broth was flavorful and the meat was tender. I got a small and wish I had opted for a bigger bowl. I tried to flag down a server about the spring rolls but they seemed busy so I just grabbed the check. Pho Pasteur felt like a very old school Chinatown restaurant. There is a saying that goes... if the restaurant is Vietnamese, you can tell how authentic the restaurant is by how many Vietnamese people are eating there. When we went there were no Vietnamese or Asian faces but still a decent amount of customers. The store is quite big so there should always be seats: the menu is in Vietnamese and English which is nice and pretty big. When the food came it the PORTION SIZES WERE VERY BIG, and the prices were extremely reasonable for the price. We got the Lo Mein, Pad Thai, and Fresh spring roll and Vietnamese pancake. A good pad Thai is supposed to be sweet (palm sugar), sour (lime and tamarind), salty (fish sauce), and spicy (chili's). This pad Thai had a very strong msg taste with a bit of sweet that tasted like white sugar and not much sour or spicy, I am pretty sure there was no Tamarind used (or at least no enough to taste it), the pad Thai was very average at best but no be fair this is not a Thai restaurant so I shouldn't expect the best pad Thai. We did not get their Pho or Bun Bo Hui which is what they are famous for. The lo mein is a classic Chinese American lo mein with a bit of a Greasy MSG taste. The portion were huge so we didn't finish it. The fresh spring roll was nice it came with a fish sauce dipping and hoisin sauce dipping. My friend got the Vietnamese pancake which came with a huge plate of veggies like lettuce and basil as well as an omelet style pancake. We were not too sure how to eat it. My favorite pho in Boston!! Came here on a weeknight , it was pretty busy. Every time I walk by it is busy. Ordered a large bowl of pho, it was $9.50, which is a super good price. If you're looking for high quality service with attentive waiters, then this is 100% not the place for you. However, if you're just looking for a quick, solid bowl of pho, then look no further, because this is the best you'll find in the Boston area. My favorite is the Pho Dac Biet, which is loaded with all types of meat including brisket, tripe, tendon, and a few others that I forgot how to translate. Regardless, this thing will fill you up and possibly even knock you into a food coma if you're someone who also sips on the broth. Each order comes with a side of beansprouts, mint, and lime, which is a must for that extra crunch and acidity. I've also tried their banh xeo, which wasn't bad but was slightly more greasy than what I'm used to. Also, one thing that I love to do is request onions with red vinegar on the side (Hanh Dam in vietnamese). It's free and although half of the service staff will say they don't have it (they actually do), just look for the asian guy with glasses who brings out all the bowls. This is the go-to place on a very cold evening. I enjoy eating at the pho noodles with brisket tripe and egg noodles in this wonderfully beef broth soup. It gets pretty crowded everyday and maybe a slow time would be after 1 o'clock. I believe that they take pride in their food it is also fairly cheap and you get your money's worth . Came here around 6:30 on a Friday night, and there was a small line by the door. We waited a little bit; the only thing that was frustrating was that people that came in much later were often seated before us (we were a group of only 2). We ordered the spring rolls and I got the small pho dac biet and my friend got the pho ga. The spring rolls came really quickly, but the pho took surprisingly long to come. Everything was pretty good and a pretty good sized portion for the price. We had a great time, but it's definitely true that you don't come for the service; the servers are nice but not the type to make small talk with you as they're always rushing around. read more

My friend took me here and told me that she loved this place. I'm sad to disappoint her but pho here is mediocre at best. I'm a Vietnamese and I had pho at lots of different places and pho here was just fine. We ordered spring rolls, which was not tightly roll and lacked of herbs; fried quails, which were super dried and pho, which lack of the wholesome feeling. Since coming to Boston 5 years ago, this has always been my go-to pho place. In fact, I have never tried any other pho places in the area just because I've been loyal to this establishment. I think that is about to change. On my last visit to Pho Pasteur, the broth seemed to lack that beef/bone marrow flavor that pho is famous for. To achieve any flavor in the broth, I had to add a 3 spoonfuls of hoisin sauce to my small pho bowl. The beef slices were slightly tough and chewy, not tender and melt in your mouth like I remembered it. It is sad when a restaurant relies on its former reputation and past accolades. This place gets packed fast, but because the food comes out so quickly and there are long tables where multiple parties can sit at, you probably won't wait more than 5 minutes unless you're coming in with a large group. This was the third time I've been here, first time for lunch on a weekday, just as busy as usual. The bowls come in small, medium, or large sizes, and I felt like the small was a tad too small so would probably recommend a medium in general since it's only like a dollar more. My bowl has less noodles than my coworker's, but maybe that's also because mine came with rare steak, tendon, and tripe and hers was just flank. Like all pho places, they bring a plate with basil, mint, bean sprouts, and lime to add to your soup, as well as hoisin, sriracha, and chili sauce placed with the utensil racks on all tables. I ate pho at the restaurant yesterday, May 13th.2022, Too my surprise, they served my table of four with spoiled tea, the tea that left in the pot from previously day and just added hot water on the top. The tea smelt bad, we requested the server to replace a new one. We ordered pho with combo meats. Bad luck or what? All the pho bowls were stained with beef blood. They did not even take the time to wipe down the freshly look outside the bowl. Bad hygiene, I won't recommend this place to any one. You can get sick from that. This is just my opinion. This was my pho place when I went to school in Boston. Whenever I was craving pho and was in Chinatown this is the place that I would stop at to get my fix. Honestly, it is not that amazing and definitely not the best pho I ever had but it gets the job done. The place itself is decently sized so I usually do not have to wait for a table but it does get packed during lunch time on weekends. The service is not amazing but it is not horrible either, the food comes out pretty quick as well which I like. The pho actually comes in multiple sizes which I was pretty surprised since usually the pho places I go too has about two sizes maximum, but I think it's pretty good since you get to choose how much pho you want depending on how hungry you are. The soup base is pretty good, not the best that I have had but it is not the worse. First off, it was a very cold day, so my friends and I were hungry for some soup. We originally wanted to order the XL, but the server pointed out to us that the large sized bowl is well portioned. We decided to go with that. However, when the dish came out, we immediately wished we ordered the XL. The broth was delicious and the beef was good (was not as tender as I'd like). Nonetheless, it was a good bowl of pho. We also ordered their iced coffee. I was not a fan because it had a thick consistency and felt like I was drinking coffee syrup. I waited an hour for the ice to melt, hoping that the drink wouldn't be as thick. Sadly, there was no difference and after just a few sips, I had to toss the drink. Overall, the service was good - they forgot our drinks until we had to ask for them. The place is clean. The food is good. I am giving them 3 stars because it's not the best I've had. read more

When we commented, they brought the rice paper but with ice cold water (rice paper wrap won't soften unless in hot water). So that didn't work. The wrapping paper was also clasped on the side of the visibly unclean plastic water container, so we had to toss a few of the wrappers. We each ordered the pho, and was given a small plate of sprouts to share until we requested more. This place used to be amazing, but they have gone downhill in the past year or so!!!! I ordered the chicken pho and fried egg rolls with pork. The chicken pho broth was underwhelming with a watered down taste compared to how it always has been in the past. The broth was lukewarm, while I don't expect it to piping hot I would expect it to be warm enough to not get cold within the first 2 minutes of eating it. The chicken in the pho was good but didn't pair well because of the flavorless broth. Pho is one of my favorite comfort meals and I order it often from many different places , this place I've been going to since I was a kid, and it just doesn't taste the same anymore. My fried pork egg rolls tasted like they had been sitting there for so long. Not fresh and not even warm, room temp fried egg rolls? Lastly, as me and my partner were drinking the iced water, we noticed it had small black specs floating around the ice. Gross!!! The soup spoons on the lazy Susan had food on them, and the soy sauce was completely empty we had take one from another table. The experience was awful and I sadly will not be back to my fav childhood pho spot. :( we were also very rushed, within a few minutes the waiter had rushed us to pick our appetizers and choice of pho and within the next 3 minutes our food was served. I appreciate the fast service but Nothing was fresh, watery chicken broth, unsanitary water and utensils and a pushy waiter, so the fast service means nothing at that point. It's time for an update... I've noticed on countless times when I sat in and ordered the beef pho the soup was just warm, not piping hot which is the way it should be so I stopped expecting it. Getting the beef on the side is a great option for those who like to eat "rare" steak. I love their seafood noodle pho with clear noodles (50 cents upcharge) and their vermicelli bowls. Their spring and egg rolls are great but you can just walk down the street if you need a cheaper option for apps. I been getting avocado shakes here alot. I get take out here alot when I crave viet food but don't want to sit by myself during lunchtime. Their chicken fried rice is also very good. Pho Pasteur is one of my go to Vietnamese restaurants in Chinatown. The pho is great, authentic, and fairly cheap. I typically also order spring rolls as an appetizer; also delicious. However I've tried ordering their egg rolls (fried) and that I wouldn't recommend. For $4.50 they're very small and skinny. This seems to be the trend at a lot of Vietnamese restaurants, unfortunately. This restaurant accepts credit cards which is great (not all Chinatown locations do). However, the service is maybe a 1/5. The restaurant has always been packed when I've gone, so it's understandable that service is difficult, but in general I get a very unattentive feel from this restaurant.
