It was my husband's birthday this past weekend and I wanted to surprise him by taking him to his favorite pho place. To be honest, I wasn't sure how the experience was going to be due to COVID, so I packed us a picnic basket that contained 2 large bowls, Chinese spoons, chopsticks, and napkins. We placed our order (#12 & #41) in-person at 1:45pm and was informed the food would be ready by 2:00pm, it was ready for pick up at 1:53pm and it came with the meal kits! Here's the thing those other review don't tell you: Take out containers are 50 cents each. So if you want to save your pho and your soup separately, that's an extra $1. Paying by card - credit OR debit - is a ridiculous 3.5% fee. That goes against the terms and conditions of their agreement with Visa/MC/Amex, by the way, so not only is it stupid to pass that along to customers they're breaking rules they agreed to. I haven't been to any other pho places in Sunnyvale, but I believe people when they say it's the best. Not sure how it could get any better, a nice atmosphere with perfect pho and fresh fixins. Granted I was pretty full when I went and granted I only had room for a kids meal...I have to say this place was pretty good. The soup wasn't heavy on the sodium and it came with a lot of the noodles. We also got the appetizer set with all of the goodies and spring rolls. The spring rolls weren't particularly memorable, just your typical spring roll. Service was pretty good. Everything came out in a timely manner and everyone got their main course around the same time. We went on a Saturday night, but the place wasn't too crowded. The area seemed a little sketchy so just put your stuff in your trunk. Just when you think it couldn't get any worse, Pho Lover has turned an etenernal pho lover into hating Pho Lover! After previous visit & disappointment, and vowed to not come back EVER (see previous review), wanting pho, short on time, I thought to myself, 'it's close by & as long as I stick with phos, it should be OK", right? So when I was looking for a new place for the continuation of "What's that Pho" and saw Pho Lovers was at a vaguely familiar address, after driving up all the memories came flooding back to me. Unfortunately Pho Lovers did not even come close to the previous incarnation. We got there early as it filled up for lunch pretty quickly. Get there early as the parking lot is very small and you have to compete with patrons for the Hispanic market next door. When we walked in we were met by large murals on the walls and it was a lot brighter than the previous incarnations. A large dumpy girl waited on us not knowing we knew what we wanted. I noticed some of the items on the menu had already been lined out by a marker. My former work associate being more adventurous ordered the Pho #1 with everything but the kitchen sink and I had the brisket and flank in mine. The Café Su Da appeared to be premixed (again). When the Pho arrived, we were served by some kid with a 'V" for a name tag, and he got our orders switched. So only after I was pulling out long strings of tripe and other and chopped meatballs floating around did I figure out I got the wrong order. Yeah I've only been here a handful of times but each and every time that I am here there food has always been very fresh and delicious. I love it all. Their special combination rice plate was so good and with lots of different things to enjoy. Their Vietnamese crepes/omelet es were amazing and reminded me of the very high quality Vietnamese crepes/omelets my aunt in law makes. It was so good I had to order two more to take home but it was so worth because my parents loved it and ate both of those right away. 4 stars for the kitchen. 1 star for the wait staff/cashier. The pho was actually really good with high quality cuts of meat with a healthy, hearty and rich broth. The service, however was tremendously off, and off putting. Ordered a combination pho, with the total being $14.45 or something after tax, and was almost berated by a female waitress (if you want to call her that) for not having cash as their minimum charge for debit/credit is $15.00. I calmly suggested that she could just put $15.00 on the card and i would gladly add gratuity on top of the $15.00. She rolled her eyes and said, next time, 15. Well, Felicia, there aint going to be a next time as you have modicum of service intellect. You literally turned away a possible regular with your attitude and lack of flexibility. There's really no reason to take issue with someone for paying $15 on a card when their bill is below that amount and when they signalled they were going to add tip on top of it!!!! If it is the restaurants policy, then I suggest the restaurant addresses it and corrects it, because it is flat out counter intuitive. Newsflash- the restaurant is in Sunnyvale, not East San Jose or Downtown Oakland where one often finds cash only restaurants (albeit at a much lower price point) and thus the service is often compromised as a result- but it shouldn't be this way when a bowl of pho is $14!!!! Pho was OK however we came here at 7:40pm and the hostess said they're closing at 8pm. They rushed us to order and I was still finishing my last bites of my food at exactly 8:02pm, the waiter comes and says "sorry we are closed". We tried this place due to a commercial on a Vietnamese channel. We ordered the bun cha (rice vermicelli) and the banh xeo (Vietnamese pancake) and also the mango milk tea. The rice vermicelli had very little rice noodles with only a few pieces of pork and 2 prices of shrimp. The Vietnamese pancake was actually decent and tastes what it should exactly taste like but they didn't put any soybean in it The mango milk tea was a bit on the sweet side so let the ice melt then drink it Overall average viet food. So if you're lucky like me, you'll have coworker friends who like trying different types of cuisine. My coworker, who is Indian and I went to have Pho Lovers for lunch because somehow she was really craving vermicelli. I was skeptical of the name, but after I dined at this restaurant, I will definitely be coming back again. This review will tell you why. Location: I work in Sunnyvale off the 101 and 237 freeways, so Pho Lovers is really close by. My coworker and I drove to Pho Lovers which was only a few minutes away. The restaurant is located next to a market which takes up the majority of the parking. There were about six parking spots for Pho Lovers. I elected not to park between two cars which were not parked within the lines (because I'm protective of my not that expensive car like that). The signs on the parking spots say that the spots are reserved for the market, but at around noon, there are plenty open spots. The restaurant is easy to spot when driving and the parking is not much of a hassle, so nothing negative here. Service: The service for a Vietnamese restaurant was pretty awesome. The servers were very attentive and quick. We were seated at a corner booth and were given two glasses of water right away. The waitress came by after a short few minutes to take our order. One thing that was not to my coworker's liking was the fact that if you substituted pork for beef, you'd have to pay extra. Beef is more expensive than pork, but do they really have to charge extra? That's up for them to decide I guess. But after we ordered, the food came fairly quickly. Good thing it did, because we were both really hungry. Presentation: I ordered the Com Bo Luc Lac which is the Vietnamese shaking beef. It's really just marinated cubed filet with a side of veggies and red rice, which is jasmine rice infused with butter, garlic, and ketchup. The presentation was nice, the rice was shaped into a heart. One complaint that I had was the green onions were not chopped into smaller pieces. I'm usually a fan of green onion, but I picked these off to the side. My coworker's vermicelli looked good, it had some veggies, egg roll, grilled chicken (substituted from pork because beef cost extra), and some peanuts. The peanuts would be something that I would complain about. They weren't ground up fine like I was used to. They were pretty much half pieces. Other than the peanuts and green onion, presentation was great. Taste: I can only comment on my beef and rice as I did not try my coworker's vermicelli. The food was really well flavored and I pretty much licked the plate clean, which was something I wish I had not done, since I ended up drinking lots and lots of water afterwards. If you ate the pieces of beef, veggies, and rice, it was not salty, but I pretty much drank the sauce it came with. This was probably more of a compliment to the chef rather than an insult about saltiness. Soy sauce in its own, no matter how little you use is already salty. It's just what you combine with it. The beef was very tender and cooked to about a medium rare temperature, which is how I prefer my steak, so kudos to you, chef person. The rice was pretty good, if you're trying to stay away from carbs, don't get this dish. You'll finish all the rice for sure. Price: My rice plate and coworker's vermicelli came out to be about $23 before tip, which is not too expensive. For the quality of the beef, the price is justified. Final Verdict: Overall great experience. Even the owner/cashier was really nice. When we went up to pay the bill, he asked how the service and food was, which I told him was great. Don't let the name of the place deter you from checking it out. Excellent food. You won't be disappointed. read more

I love this place. I'm a vegetarian and really enjoy their vegetarian menu, especially #48, as well as the veggie spring rolls. As for non-veggie options, I have been told their beef ball pho and chicken pho are both delicious. Everyone working here is really nice and welcoming and I always feels at ease. It's large, spacious, and well decorated. Their small pho bowls are actually kinda small, but it's a good size if you're not that hungry. I'm currently sick, so a bowl of Pho was just what I needed. I was super excited to find out that we had a new pho place open up near work. Arrived right before noon and the service was quick. I was seated with my bowl of pho in front of me in less than 5 minutes. It was $8.50 for a small, and $9.50 for a large.... pretty expensive. Every time I eat a large, I usually become overwhelmed with guilt, so I went with a small... It was probably one of the smallest smalls I've ever seen, unfortunately The pho though, it tasted amazing. Definitely one of the best tasting pho bowls in the area, and pretty on par with the San Jose restaurants too. However... the cost and size of the bowls is a big deal breaker for me :(. Walked in at 7:45 for dinner. Some of the chairs were already on tables. It wasn't busy, so I ignored it. Strike 1 was: just as our food hit the table, they started mopping the floor. It was not 8 yet and they close at 8:30. I couldn't taste my food over chemicals they were cleaning the floor with. Strike 2: The manager then asked 2 ladies to move tables so they could clean in the area the were sitting, it was just 8:00. Then a man came in with his 2 kids, at 8:10 and the manager said he wouldn't serve them because they close in 20 minutes. I ended up just get most of my food to go because I didn't feel like we could sit there and enjoy it. It doesn't make sense to me that a small business would treat customers so poorly. I recently work in Mountain View and craving for Pho. So, I looked around and found this place with good reviews. I gave it 1 star for the following reasons: 1. Most and biggest issue: parking. It's a one way in parking. Once you got in and no parking, you have to go out and make another round to come back in. And, they only have about 7 spots for Pho Lovers. If you plan to go there with multiple cars, you either need to get there early or drive around and wait for your luck. 2. Their Vietnamese ice coffee is below average. Taste much like water. All of Vietnamese who love its coffee will sure notice that. 3. For Pho review only! There is quite a bit different between small and large size. I ordered small size and it was almost teenager/kid size. Not enough space for my beanstrout and basil. 4. They gave me exact 1 branch of basil (if you go alone and order Pho). I then asked for extra basil, they brought out another exact.... 1 branch basil. 5. The soup is ok. Not as good as other places I had before. Probably one of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants with my least favorite parking situation. There's less than a handful of spots in front of the restaurant and another handful within a stone's throw walking distance. It also doesn't help that the road is very frequently busy so crossing the street becomes somewhat an adventure too. There may be a small wait when coming here but usually it's not long because people who come here usually eat their food and leave within 10-15 minutes. I've seen it. I came here for lunch and saw the same table turnover three times before I left. The menu has all of the standards that I like although I usually lean towards the rice dishes with beef. Pho is great on cold days but with the spike in temperature recently, the last thing I wanted to do was sweat up a storm drinking hot pho on a hot day. They take credit card here which is a HUGE deal. Pho Queen off of Lawrence Expressway does not and sometimes this guy doesn't carry cash with him. Come early, eat quick, and go. My family and I used to go to Pho Lovers before the pandemic and enjoyed tasty meals and good service every time. I'm happy to report that the menu changes and additions in late December make it even better. We had #3 fried egg rolls (three per order) that were just delightful. Our second item from the appetizer list was #7 Crispy Shrimp Wonton - deep fried to crunchy perfection. The shrimp is ground (so no tails to deal with), mixed into the batter, and dropped into the hot oil in such a way that each wonton comes out looking like a happy little sun burst of flavor. They're served with mayonnaise for dipping, and the combination was absolutely perfect. My daughter really enjoyed her bowl of phở tai, especially because she got half rice and half egg noodles. Finally, my wife got the #40 seafood and was also really pleased with her meal. Two other things to note. First, the prices have gone up drastically, like everywhere else. This dinner for three came to $75.00 + tip. Second, maybe because it was Monday night, and there were not many other diners, everything came out at once, including the appetizers. No big deal, but I prefer the appetizers first, with time to enjoy them at leisure, and then the main dishes. So save up if you have to, but definitely go when you can to Pho Lovers in Sunnyvale. read more

I arrived on a rainy Sunday a little before 1 P.M. and was seated immediately. Plenty of seating indoors and the place is bright with a nice, modern feel. Warning: this review is not for their pho since funny enough, no one in my party ordered it. Next time! We tried the vermicelli, one of their rice plates and the grilled pork rolls (nem nuong). The vermicelli portion was huge! The rice plate was decent and their grilled pork rolls weren't the best I've had, but tasty. I love that they have tons of options to pick and choose from. This is the best pho and Vietnamese cuisine I've had in a while. I am from Southern California Orange County and live within a short driving distance from many Pho restaurants. I ate at many Pho places and this is my top 3 places to go. Unfortunately, I on vacation in San Francisco and going back home to the OC. We found this gem on the way back and stopped in for lunch. The people there are so friendly and helpful. The place is very opened and clean. We are everything and love it all. The sampler combo plate is so good and worth every penny. This place has been a number of Asian restaurants for years now. I used to hit it back when I was in the day when I worked in the area. Recently it has become a new Pho and Vietnamese eats joint. They're open with a limited menu,. So I got the special Pho with all the different meats and offal. Pretty solid broth, meats are good and noodles are what you'd expect. The tea here is not free and comes in individual mugs but the presentation is nice and it has a pretty flower inside the tea mug. Amazing Phó! Visited around 1130. Atmosphere is very mellow. Smells of incense, very clean and mellow music playing. Soon after i arrived, about 15 more people showed up. Lots of couples and groups (and a few loners like me), as well as it being a pretty diverse crowd. I order the rare steak phó, spring rolls and thai tea. Spring rolls were massive. Gf and I are indeed pho lovers but we actually came here on a hunt for Viet garlic noodles. The noodles were really good, but the pork flavor stole the show. Super tasty. But wait, there's more! Pretty interior, random Sunnyvale location next to a market with very aggressive parking signs, so be sure to park in the Pho Lovers spots.
