small steak, brisket pho
Chastity V.

Excellent pho that is served quickly! I stopped in for a quick lunch and was in and out in 25 minutes. I ordered a small steak and brisket pho (5/5) and was given a very filling portion with perfectly cooked noodles and superb broth. It was exactly what I was craving. I also ordered a lychee tea, which was sweet and refreshing. They take your order (quickly, so have a game plan or decide fast) then you pay at the counter. Service was good. As far as ambiance, it's nothing fancy - but I'm not coming here for that, I'm here for the excellent food at decent prices and speedy service. I live far away and wish I could have this more often! San Jose has some of the best Vietnamese food in the Bay Area.

Great hole in the wall spot. Service was excellent, food came out quickly. Always tasty both as a dine-in and take-away option! The chicken vermicelli is my favorite and go-to order

Ordered beef pho and grilled chicken with egg roll rice plate. And also ordered grill pork with egg roll rice plate for takeout Great customer service with a smile and good food. thank you!

Great neighborhood spot! Detailed breakdown below: **Service, 5/5** No frills -- staff are quick to grab your order and bring the food. Pay at the counter before you leave. I was also happy to see that the restaurant was decently busy with a steady stream of customers! **Price & portion, 5/5** Solid portion for a reasonable price. Regular sized bowls of pho are $14 and larges are $15. The regular size left me super satisfied! **Taste, 5/5** Love that the noodles here aren't "al dente" so they're super silky and splurpable. Portions of meat are generous so I got a whole piece of meat in each bite! I got the #10 which comes with steak, flank, and tendon -- I asked for the steak on the side so it wouldn't overcook and get tough in the broth which was perfect. The flank had a great amount of fat, and the tendon was super tender! If I had to nitpick, I'd say the broth here is less complex than other places I've been to; the primary flavor you get is salt instead of umami of that makes sense. And I wouldve loved a bit more onion and green onion in my bowl. But other than that, it was a great dinner and I'm definitely coming back! **Other notes** Parking. Restrooms.

Quality/Quantity - Continuing and going out of my way to support locals while I am in the area. Two chicken sandwiches. Not sure if the bread was toasted? As I unfortunately got distracted by a "neighbor" when I got back to my wife. He talked to us for over an hour... So if the bread was toasted originally, it was really soft by the time I started eating it. No fault of the business. The BBQ flavor was more American than Vietnamese??? Not bad, but I was expecting more of an Asian flavor. Could have used more meat/chicken, but for the price, I was not surprised. Generous fresh veggies in the sandwiches, thank you. Atmosphere - Small local family restaurant. Narrow mall parking, but was not an issue today. Open 5 days a week from 10am to 8pm, closed Thursday and Sunday. Service - Welcomed me right away when I walked in. Overall, the service was good. Counter service as I was buying sandwiches to-go. Let me sit anywhere while I wait. Price - $6.50 a sandwich + tax; totaling $15. Reasonably priced for what we got. Owner Comment - Congrats on your 20+ years of success...?

Chicken Pho

Always quick to seat me, attentive to my order, decently priced & GREAT service! Clean space, cute fish tank inside, Apple Pay accepted! I got the chicken pho & the broth is phenomenal. Full of flavor. I like that it comes with mixed meat, personally I hate when it comes with dry chicken breast. The meal also comes with Vietnamese mint inside the soup which I feel is a great touch. Don't be fooled its not like chewing on a stick of gum. It's very subtle & adds great flavor! It's a bit over $16 for a small & I always leave full & fulfilled! Highly recommend!

Vegetarian pho (yum, so clean and savory)

Super clean broth, speedy service, and simply satisfying. I tried their vegetarian pho today and it was so savory and rich in deep flavors but not heavy or greasy. Really clean broth that warmed my bones and soul.

Food come out hot and look tasty, meat is tender and soft, very quick service... food come out in like 10-15 mins.... Coffee was amazing with crushed ice... toilet is clean and shiny... the price is reasonable cheap too.... The portion of the dish is big.... Love the pork skin....

Cozy location in Saratoga with welcoming staff. Came here for lunch on a Monday afternoon, got seated right away. Food came really fast along with our drinks! I ordered the #15 combo pho, def hit the spot! I just wish there was more meat but overall delicious! Also got a refreshing coconut juice!

The pho broth here is super flavorful and hit the spot on a cold night. However, it was full of MSG as I was super thirsty afterwards. My husband and I both ordered a small bowl of pho and it was still a huge portion. Only thing was there was not a lot of meat compared to other pho restaurants I've been to. We also ordered a grilled pork banh mi. It was good, but there was no pate. I was a bit disappointed. However, the bread was soft. Maybe a little too soft, it was not crisp on the outside. Parking: shared parking lot with plenty of spaces

Chicken pho
Caili C.

Pretty good casual spot for pho! We came here on a whim on a Saturday morning with some friends after wanting to get something different from our regular pho restaurant. I got the chicken pho while most of my friends got a variation of beef pho. Between the 2, I liked the chicken pho better as the broth was lighter and brighter than the beef broth. The side of bean sprouts, basil and jalapeños were good but I wish they had limes rather than lemons which really make a difference to the flavor. I also liked that for the phos, you can choose small or large. The price difference is fairly small but the choice in size is nice if you're not feeling very hungry as leftover pho can get mushy easily and it's not a great food to take home leftovers of.

Great pho spot that hits the spot. This place deserves a higher rating - it easily beats out some of the other places in the area.

It is straightforward with a good mix of udon, rice dishes, small bites, and drinks, which I really appreciated. The food felt delicate but still had layers of flavor. Nothing was heavy or overdone. The rice was one of my favorite parts. It was crispy on the outside and cooked perfectly inside, which made it so satisfying. The chicken karaage was also really good. Crispy, tender, flavorful, and exactly what you want when you order karaage. The only thing I would probably skip next time is the mixed sake drinks. They are fruity and fun, but they tasted like they were made with sugary syrup. So if you do not want a sugar bomb or you are watching sugar calories, I would stay away from those. The inside has a cozy feel that reminded me a little of something you would find in Japan, but with a bit of an American touch. It felt clean, casual, and comfortable. The staff was friendly and attentive without making anything feel rushed. Also we had our son so they brought share plate without us even asking for him. I loved that they considered that. For the amount of food, the quality, and the overall experience, the prices felt well worth it. We will definitely be going back. It is one of those places that feels easy to recommend because the food is good, the menu makes sense, the service is warm, and the whole experience just works. We arrived around 5:50 PM and it wasn't busy but maybe 30 min in it was crowded and by the time we left there was a wait so plan to get there earlier. This was on a Wednesday as well.

You can tell they genuinely care about their customers. It made our whole family feel really comfortable eating there. Amazing service and amazing food, definitely coming back!

The salted egg yolk fried chicken wings were awesome. They come out looking super red, but they are not spicy. Great flavor, super good, and very yummy. The cumin lamb was excellent too. It had a little spice, but not too bad, and the lamb was really soft. The mapo tofu with pork was good, but very spicy. The tofu itself was good. The Sichuan high wok was tasty, but it got spicier and spicier the more I ate it, so just be ready for that. Honey walnut shrimp came out very crispy and the sauce was light. The flavor was not too bad, but the shrimp flavor did not come through as much. The Yunnan rice noodle soup with pork and pickled cabbage was good, and the soup itself had nice flavor, but I wish it had more meat. Beef and scallion dumplings were average. Sauteed greens were solid and definitely necessary to balance out the meal. Service was relatively quick, which was nice since we ordered a good amount of food. Everything came out at a good pace, and the meal felt easy overall. Nothing too fancy on the service side, but it got the job done. The inside feels like a big cafeteria. It is fine, but not really a place you go for ambiance. It was also a little hot inside, which made the spicy dishes feel even spicier. With so much ramen competition in the Bay Area, I had to try it out for myself and Uzumakiya's unfortunately does not stand out. It's your standard tonkotsu ramen, but you can definitely find better Hakata-style ramen elsewhere. My personal favorite being Ramen Hajime. To speak more on the ramen itself, the broth leaned more on the thin, watery side rather than the rich, creamy pork bone broth you'd expect from a good tonkotsu. It was also a bit salty. Noodles were fine, al dente. The waiter kindly explained that the only difference between the "Tokusei" (deluxe) ramen and the classic version was an added egg, extra pork belly, and seaweed. That didn't feel worth the additional $5 to me, so I opted for the classic black garlic ramen and added an egg for $2 instead. Overall, I don't think transitioning to ramen was the best move, especially because their udon was so special. I've genuinely never had udon like theirs in the Bay Area, which makes it even more disappointing that they no longer serve it on their normal menu. I'm sure many others feel the same way. I used to come frequently back when they specialized in udon, but I don't think I'll be returning unless they bring it back or if it's for their Aburi Shime Saba. Wishing Uzumakiya all the best regardless!

Even with them moving out to the East Bay, they make periodic drives just to enjoy what KN has to offer. I've had one dining experience here previously and was not impressed. This lead to not returning. Fast forward 2.5 years or so, here I was again. Our large party of 9 arrived at opening hours and the owners were so very welcoming. The restaurant was clean and the condiments were in tip top shape. Our family's order was massive. We started the meal with xiu mai [Vietnamese pork meat balls] and Chinese donut sticks. This then continued with mi do bien, filet mignon and beef ball pho, & a variety of nam vang noodle versions. The great thing about Kali Noodles are the multiple options of noodles they provide. There are a number of combinations that could be made with the 6 offerings. The food was surprisingly really good- so much better than what my first visit was. The bowls were presented neatly but plated in a way where the large chunks of lettuce made the bowls seem a lot more fuller that it really was. The noodle soups also consisted a lot more broth than noodles. Having said that, the egg noodles are really really good!! The restaurant cooks them perfectly- chewy with a slight bite that keeps you wanting more and more. Hu tieu dai was unfortunately too mushy in texture for my liking. 4 stars overall. Customer service from the owners were exceptional. They were attentive to each person's order and were so welcoming. The food was good but maximize the deliciousness by strictly going for the thin egg noodles. You will not be disappointed and this recommendation is coming from a person who typically steers clear of this. I'd happily return.
