This is one of the places I've been visiting for the last 10 years. I did take a 1.5 year absence after they switched ownership, but returned a few months ago. The broth is amazing and the bowl is huge, the XL will get most eaters stuffed. Meat quality is pretty good and they give plenty of veggies on the side. Service is typical asian service where they take your order and forget about you, if you do order iced tea they usually provide a refill cup before you leave. It's a popular lunch spot with mostly locals eating here and it's been a very consistent place with good quality Pho any day of the week. Definitely an eat and go type of establishment. Small business so everyone is always friendly. No matter the time we come there's always people here so that's a good sign right? Prices are still good in this economy and service was good-- oh the sweet sweet ladies! I haven't been here in probably over 9 years. I remember the pho being delish back then. Parking has improved, but still not great if the lot is filled up. Ya might have to park on the street. I recently visited and got the vermicelli, #92 on the menu: bun tau hu ky thit nuong cha gio. The tau hu ky was mushy in texture-- which I rarely encounter. Very disappointing because I love tau hu ky! It's suppose to be a nice crispy tofu skin outside and firm shrimpy inside texture but it was not crispy nor firm. This made me question if the shrimp was fresh. Came with a friend and decided to try this place due to the high reviews and it being close by the freeway. Parking was easy as they have a lot. It is located in a sketchier area of El Monte so just be careful and weary. I went inside and was greeted by the lovely aunties. They spoke to me in Cantonese which I thought was funny as they noticed I didn't speak Vietnamese. I ordered the #17 and they had an option of cooked or raw bean sprouts. I never got asked that before so thought it was nice the bean sprouts are cooked prior to adding them to my soup. Meat and noodle portion were decent but the broth was okay. After I finished it, I noticed that there was a lot of fat that lingered at the top of my bowl which was a bit gross. For the price, it is fair and cheaper than other pho places I normally visit (Golden Deli/Saigon Eden). However do note that there is a 50 cents extra charge if you pay with credit card. The health rating was prominently posted in the front window with a "B" grade. Asian place, not a deal breaker. Coworker did not order a pho. I began to get suspicious. When I received my large bowl of combination pho, it was luke warm. The taste was okay but it was very greasy and little gamey after taste. Luckily, I did not pay for pho. I have had pho from Westminster, San Gabriel Valley, San Fernando Valley, etc. I was not digging pho from Pho Filet. I came here after researching pho places to go, well good pho places. And out of all the places, this place did populate. The plaza is a bit packed for a parking lot, so do come early if you want to find parking - street parking in an option. The restaurant inside is a bit dated, and doesn't seem like they really clean the inside. The tables are a little sticky, the wall is a little dark and got some gunk, does feel slightly unpleasant inside when sitting down i am not going to lie. However, i reminded myself, I came here for the food - although you know they do say that whatever the bathroom looks like you should reflect it to the kitchen. This place may be called a "Pho" restaurant but we really came here for the broken rice ("Com tam") plates. We ordered a couple of different rice plates, but pictured are two popular choices: 1. Com Dac Biet: this is the special plate that basically comes with a little of everything. It includes shredded pork ("Bi"), the tofu skin shrimp ("ta hu ky"), Chinese sausage, and egg/meatloaf ("cha"). All items were prepared well and portion sizes were generous and made for a satisfying meal! 2. Com Suon: pork chop ("suon") over rice. The portion size for the plate was amazing. They give you two large chops, which you can really share with two people or save one for lunch the next day. Other items we ordered (but not pictured): 1. Pho Dac Biet: very large bowl of pho. Broth was tasty and amount of noodles and meat (brisket, beef slices, tripe, tendons) were plentiful 2. Pho Bo Kho: an equally generous sized bowl! Plenty of beef chunks and tendons. The only small negative could be the "oily-ness" of the broth. That could be a turn off for some. Service: great service from the staff. They're very efficient and responsive. Food came out very fast. Even faster had we all just ordered Pho, but since we had rice plates that required some dish preparation, that took a few minutes longer. Parking: this restaurant is located on a corner, in a very small strip mall where there's two other businesses next to each other. The parking is limited and can be a little crowded. But fortunately, this is near a neighborhood where you can find street parking as long as you're willing to drive walk a little. So overall, this is a GREAT place to grab a bite if you are in El Monte. It's so much more than a Pho restaurant. Try out the rice plates...you won't be disappointed! read more

Came here for dinner recently with a group of 4. We ordered Pho Dac Biet among other things. The Pho Dac Biet was the only thing I tried so I'll only comment on that. Ordered the XL size, lots of meat and noodles. They fill the soup/broth all the way to the top of the bowl, submerging everything. So don't be fooled by the pictures. There's lots of ingredients underneath. Only thing is, the soup was just slightly hotter than warm. It wasn't piping hot like I'm used to at all the other places I've been to. So a little disappointing there. Complimentary iced/hot water or iced/hot tea. The tea was very strong and floral. I loved it. Water tasted like filtered water. came here for breakfast to catch up with a friend and it's a small shop with booth and non-booth seating. the service is decent and nice. i had a hard time understanding what they were asking when i ordered my chicken pho, so when my food came out i had chicken on the side for my pho lol. the food overall was good - i just wish my chicken was in the dish. the parking lot is VERY tiny and limited. there are only a few spots for the restaurant itself. the rest of the spaces are reserved for other businesses that share the same lot. there is street parking available though and it looked plenty. read more

This is the quickest spot to get lunch. I'm about a 1 minute drive from this place so I'll clock out, head to Pho Filet and have a 25 minute lunch and still make it back home with time to spare. Aside from it being a quick meal, they have decent quality noodle, but nothing super amazing to rave about. It can get busy during peak lunch hours. This was my first visit to this restaurant. I ordered a small combo pho to go, priced at $12.95 before tax and tip. The restaurant seemed slightly understaffed, given the number of people waiting for takeout orders. My order was ready within five minutes. However, after leaving, I noticed that my credit card was charged $0.50 more than the listed price (see attached image). I'd like to believe this was an honest mistake rather than being dishonest, but it's something the business should be mindful of. While $0.50 isn't a big deal--especially since I also left a tip--integrity in service and charges is important. As for the food, the broth and ingredients were packed separately, which is standard for takeout pho. However, I was disappointed to find that the meat was still frozen. Even after submerging it in the hot broth, it remained lukewarm. The raw beef also stayed rare instead of being gently pouched in the hot broth as it should. Ultimately, I had to microwave the entire bowl, as a lukewarm bowl of pho is far from appetizing. I suppose that the dine-in quality might be better, but I don't think I'll visit this restaurant again. read more

Looking for a good pho place, we ventured out of our 10 minute drive radius and found Pho Filet, based on the rec of some foodies around the SGV. The place was fairly busy when we arrived for lunch. Since they had several people working, service was fast and orders were quickly brought out. The menu was extensive, and many items started to look the very similar after a few minutes, so I posted menu photos to save you time there. A place called Pho Filet, I had to order a bowl of pho. (#17, XL of rare steak and we'll done brisket.) I also ask for rare steak on the side so it doesn't overcook in the broth. The portions of raw beef were generous. I found dipping it in the hot broth to cook it slightly and take them out again kept it medium rare and tender. The well done brisket were thinly sliced and lean. XL is huge and satisfying. #66 & #68 were very similar dishes. One came with chicken, the other was steak. Both also were served with shrimp paste and charbroiled meatballs, rice. The steak was very tender and full of flavor. The chicken was a bit on the tougher side, but not too bad. Portions here are big and service was fairly friendly and fast. The pho came out in less than a few minutes. Even though Pho Filet is a bit farther and many other pho joints, it's worth the drive for me. Notes: parking lot can be tight and based on the configuration of the spaces, it may be better to park in the street. It just a few extra steps. Moved to SGV 3 years ago and was on the hunt for authentic and GREAT pho. Found this place through SGV Eats fb page and decided to check it out. We were seated quickly and I immediately noticed most of the customers were older Asian people. Definitely a good sign. I ordered a small dac biet + bo vien and my boyfriend got the extra large. Both were fairly priced because the small was ginormous and both bowls were filled with meat. I could barely finish! I really liked that they had an option with all the sliced beef AND beef meatball, which isn't super common I think. The pho was delicious and the best I've had in SGV! (And I grew up in OC). Old G local pho shop with limited English and takes credit card. Our favourite order is now #15 Pho XL, #46 Rice Plate, and #124 Pennyworth Drink totalling $35 with tip for a lunch. Old style of customer service which is...if the food is good = don't expect much service. This place is full of regulars who come here and already know what they want. Food is served quick. Quiet light and clear but full of flavor. I only added a little lime and pieces of the basil to maintain as much of that delicious herbal broth flavor. A lot of places give you heavy noodles and light on the protein. I know this was a meat heavy option, but I found that the meat portions were plentiful lasting me to the end of an Extra Large serving. Well balanced between protein and noodle for me, since I usually eat a low carb diet. Delicious. Will have to explore the rest of the menu. Definitely coming back! read more
