Pho Don in EastVan is an awesome Vietnamese restaurant. A mainstay pioneer in this area & one not to be missed. It's an older style restaurant with an aging setting. I'd actually been here a few times already & forgot to do a review, so here goes. Remember to have the popular Vietnamese ice coffee at the end of your meal & not before - or it will fill you up. It's a great way to end off your meal before heading out. Our waiter made great suggestions & our meals were on point tasty. The Beef Rib with rice & salad & the Curry Shrimp with vegetables was very satisfying. If you are planning on coming out here for the PNE (show grounds & Playland amusement rides) or a concert at the new Amphitheatre, I'd recommend this restaurant for a good sit down meal before carrying on to your adventures. This spot is right across from where we're staying at the Atrium Hotel, which is super convenient. Parking is pretty decent, though it's shared with other businesses nearby. I asked the cashier what they recommend and went with the house special beef pho, so glad I did! I also got the grilled pork bánh mì for my husband and he said it was really good. They told me it'd be about a 15-minute wait for takeout, and they even offered me water while I waited, which was nice. The food actually came out quicker than expected. We dropped by after our league games ended as it's one of the few places open late in the area. They get +stars for their operating hours! I ordered #39, thought the broth was decent but the large is not as large as other places, so I think i would have been hungry if I had ordered a small. It hit the spot after a lot of exercise but I don't think I'd come out of my way to dine here otherwise. Their music playlist is awesome though, love the old school jams. So I tried out their vermicelli bowl - and it was mediocre at best - the meat was so hit and miss - some pieces were tasty and soft , while others seemed to be tough and old - not even sure if the meat was from the same batch? Spring roll filling was disappointing - didn't taste fresh , however it was still super crispy so that's a plus ! The good thing about this place is that it is open till late like 1-2 am. Perfect place for midnight supper. I have been here several times over the years and found the food to be quite standard. It is not mind blowing nor is it terrible. It is decent. The prices have also gone up over the years. Fortunately they did not stint on the ingredients with a price increase. The small is now $13.50 for a basic pho and there are lots of meat in it. I could not finish it despite the tiny looking bowl. I have tried a few types of pho here and nothing stands out for me. Cant complain about the abundance of meats and thick vermicelli noodles and low on msg. My gf had the chicken pho and it was just grilled chicken with pho which was weird since it looked like they used the grilled lemongrass chicken from rice/vermicelli dishes. All i can say is that this place Is average at best! Its just conveniently Located at the crossroads of van and burnaby, but foodwise...average at best. Tried their phos and the soup lacked the PHO flavour. Tasted very light. Also had the salad roll but forgot to take a pict. Interestingly, their shrimp salad roll came with viet ham. Most places just put shirmp. Good side is the beef was tender and plentiful. And the prices were relatively cheaper than most places. Service was quick and efficient. The most negative part of the review was the cleanliness of the restaurant. On the floor were strands of noodles and dirt and even a dirty fork leftover from Previous diners. Had a late dinner at this place after watching a concert at PNE with group of friends and our experienced was good. The place was very busy at 11pm but we still got seated right away. My absolute go to for Pho if I'm craving for Vietnamese late as they are open everyday of the week from 11:00 AM to 2:00 AM. Restaurant has been given a facelift recently with new wall tiling and upgraded lights to give a near contemporary ambiance. Me and a friend almost always start off with their appetizer item #1 Crispy Spring Rolls (2 rolls). Not the best in town but I would consider above average in taste and portion size. Their Pho is where they shine as I ordered item #50 Hot & Sour Seafood Noodle Soup and he ordered item #52 Hue Spicy Beef, Boneless Pork Hock, Ham in Vermicelli Soup. Both bowls offered a nice rich beef broth flavor soup and ingredients were plentiful. I recommend going for the large over the small bowl size as the average $1 difference in price is definitely worth it to achieve satiety. Aside from our two choices I also recommend item #54 Fish Cake and Vermicelli Soup. Our two waitresses were friendly and our food came out really fast. Nice spot. Seems like a local favorite. This is my second visit. First time my date and I had the Pho with rare beef, salad roll and spring rolls. This evening my guy ordered #24 which is a pork, chicken, beef fried noodles dish, and I had the #12 beef spicy satay with vermicelli noodles The noodles were good. My beef satay was a little salty. I am allergic to MSG and forgot to mention it. My bad. It does not impact my review rating. The plane seems ok. Service slow. Casual atmosphere. Seems popular and they see a good flow of business. Was very disappointed. 6 of us sat down only 5 menus. She wasn't friendly. She seem like she had a bad day when she took our orders. I asked if they have broken rice with pork. She said no but pointed on the menu pork chop with regular rice. It's not hard to switch the rice over to broken rice. Anyhow the drinks were expensive so I didn't order a smoothie. Most places the smoothie are between $4.50-$6.50 but they charge $8.50. When they brought the food out, she was lazy instead walking around the table to give to the right person. She handed the hot bowl of soup to one end so we can pass it to the right person. She was lazy. After we got all our food. They just stood in a group and chatted and laughed. They didn't offer us more tea or check if we needed anything. When we went to pay the bill. She couldn't do separate bills she said only one bill. One of my friend ended up paying for the whole bill. Now a day food is expensive and eating out is a luxury. So don't treat us bad because we're not coming back. Totally not recommending this place. I noticed they have a vegetarian pho on the menu, so I stopped in for lunch one day and ordered a large one ($12.75 plus tax; $11.75 plus tax for a smaller one). It's a large interior with seating for probably 30 tables. My noodle soup came out within about 10 minutes. The soup comes with a nice portion of mixed veggies--broccoli, cabbage, carrot, celery and onion--and a nice portion of noodles; no tofu though. The broth is solid, though pretty ordinary for veggie pho. Their homemade chili oil amps it up nicely and increases the complexity of the broth really nicely. All in all, solid veggie pho--would've liked some tofu in it. I'd say somewhere in the middle of the pack locally. read more

The price was around $13 and opens till late until past midnight so it was reasonable and the size was reasonable. Was about to give 4 star until i saw the sign amex cant be used and i checked amex website its in the map. Whoops busted! Dishonesty is the worst thing to do in a business. Please dont be dishonest again and remove the sign. If you agree to accept amex, please accept and be honest about it or one day it would bite you just letting you know. To start, my family has been a regular at Pho Don for around 5-6 years - we think that this is one of the most authentic Vietnamese restaurants in Vancouver. However, our recent experience was not so great - this was on Friday, October 20th, 2023. Firstly, we suspect that the restaurant likely has a new owner as the menu and website are different than the last time we went, which was around early September. We ordered our usual (Pho #31 and #34, previously #33), 2 orders of spring rolls and a Vietnamese Iced Coffee. When the vegetables arrived, we noticed that instead of lime, we received lemons instead which is strange as every time we came before, it was lime. The spring rolls arrived quickly and it was fresh and still hot but, we noticed that there was no taro which, again was part of the rolls before. While it was still delicious, one of my mother's rolls had hair wrapped tightly inside the roll. We immediately informed the waitress and she took it back to the manager and she stated that the restaurant would make us another one to take home for free, which my mother was appreciative of. Lastly, the biggest change we noticed was that the broth was different from before as it was more oily and not as sweet and flavourful as it was before. Plus, the beef was also changed as the cut before was more fatty while, this time was more lean. So, our experience was the least favorable one from our previous experiences. Stumbled across Pho Don by chance. Booked a room across the street from here and saw it out my window. I saw the restaurant was crowded with costumers, so obviously it had to be good pho. So we walked over to have dinner. We were not disappointed. The food was really good and the portions were a good size. Came here to get my late night pho fix. Parking is plentiful in front of the strip mall. The place is obviously quite new, and the interior has been renovated since the days of Gourmet Castle. Staff were quite friendly and helpful. This place is not the cheapest (dishes are closer to $9), but they do a really good job with the soup. I had the #50 hot and sour seafood noodle soup. The soup was nice and fresh, and the seafood bits were nice and fluffy. Lots of green onions too. I'm getting hungry just writing this review. Definitely will be back, as this is the only place that opens late for pho in this neighbourhood. Recommended. read more

It took another couple of minutes before we were able to flag a waiter down to ask for the menu and tea. Menu options are reasonable. Price isn't too bad either. I am surprise their Large is so large and their small is like a large at some other restaurants. This is my second time coming here. Got the number 33 rare beef with beef brisket. The soup is very tasty. And goes very well with the beef. Also tried the spring roll. It was very hot and crispy. Somehow the smell reminded me of BK. Not sure why. A small pho is close to $9. Never thought I would see the day that 'Gourmet Castle' would disappear, and it happened, and what popped up... aww man, another 'pho' joint!? I've lived around the area for a long time, and it seems like this area has become the new 'pho' battlefield, as I can name 5 solid Vietnamese restaurants in a 5 minute driving radius from this location. Well, if your coming in this hood serving this type of food... you better be up to snuff of be prepared to shut down.... While on one of my walks with my dear we decided to finally stop in to see exactly how the food was. They actually came in and did some renovations, as I thought they would keep the 'Gourmet Castle' look, which they didn't, new floors, new coat of paint, the place feels bigger, new tables and chairs too. The first thing I noticed was the chairs, seems like they bought all their chairs from an auction of a Delaney's coffee house, go in and you'll understand after seeing them! We were presented menus once we sat near the window, and while looking at what to order my dear was set on the vegetable pho (#47) that was on the menu, and asked the waitress what was the stock in the soup, and she said it was beef, I chuckled, as she wasn't going to get full on vegetarian on this meal, I ordered the house special (#45) and we didn't wait too long when the food started coming up. The waitress serving our table asked how we liked our bean sprouts, I am indifferent on this matter, but my dear wanted them cooked, and they came at the same time with our order. The plate looked fresh, served with jalapeno peppers, lime and some Thai basil. The bowls looked like your average small size at any Vietnamese restaurant, except the soup looked a little lacking as they decided to really pack the bowl. When I was putting the minimal bean sprouts, thai basil, and hot sauce in my bowl, mixing it was difficult as I was afraid of things overflowing out of the bowl, but prior to the adding of all of my 'extras' I was very surprised at the noodles. I didn't expect the noodles to be so firm, cooked throughout, but solid, with a bite, not remotely soggy, and not undercooked, these people are using some good rice noodles here, and know exactly how to cook them. The broth was clean, very beefy in my dish, probably from all the meat that was hidden around the noodles in my bowl. They were, to put it, overly generous, as this small bowl of pho was a struggle to finish. The one thing I could say is they probably could use a little more broth, as the ratio of soup to chewable food was a little off, also they just had a little too much meat in here, and I don't usually complain. At the end of the bowl I was just eating meat, as the noodles were polished off by yours truly... Value for the dollar, and a pretty good bowl of pho, this is the place for you, also it is open late, till 2AM, a little taken from the old restaurant that sat here before. The place is super clean (probably cause it is new) as even the condiment dish sitting on the table was spotless, so for any one needing the premises clean, you'll like what you see just sitting here. read more

We originally were going to dine at Laksa King, but they were closed today for the holiday. Then couldn't find parking at Bao Chau so we ended up here. We were greeted upon entering and seated quickly. We were brought water / tea quickly and given menus. I noticed right off the bat that the prices were $1 - $2 higher than other Vietnamese restaurants. Great way to start the new yr with some Vietnamese food! Located near the entrance of the PNE, Pho Don is not necessarily the most convient location, but if you are nearby than it's not bad. The restaurant is quite big and open, and there is quite a large selection. I got the grilled pork and shrimp vermicelli, while my friend got the lemongrass pork chop w/rice. I really enjoyed the pork, it had a nice grilled flavour and was well seasoned. The portion was quite big as well, and they didn't seem to skimp on the meat. I also tried the pork chop and it was quite tasty. They also included a bowl of fish sauce to go with the vermicelli which was great as its always been one of my favorite parts of Vietnamese food. If I go back to the pne this summer, I would definitely stop by Pho Don again! read more

I live just around the corner from Pho Don.I've been going here forever - it's time to write a review. I can't believe I haven't done this already! I love them... their service is good, they're so sweet. I do takeout orders where I call it in. But I have sat inside many times too. They have flavorful Vietnamese and Chinese dishes. To be clear - there are a lot of Vietnamese and Chinese restaurants in my neighborhood. This one I feel is the most warm and inviting. I know their menu, even though there's a 100+ menu items.
